Went crazy again. - Huawei P9 Lite Guides, News, & Discussion

And again, one of our device developer and contributor stopped AGAIN a development in progress which leaves us hanging on his ROM with no more updates and support coming from him again in the future.
Meticulus, you are a good developer YES. We admire your works but abandoning an unfinished projects all over again will ruin your reputations.
Whatsoever it is. Godbless you..

We shall, see. In my signature there is a screen shot that shows that XDA Moderators are trying to force me to change my location tag. I did not want to but I changed it to the famous quote "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges". Which is a Latin phrase, which means "In times of war the law falls silent." It is also the name of an episode of "Star Trek: DS9" which I happen to like. The moderator seemed to think that that I was personally attacking him or that this too was a "political view" and that it was not in "English". Tomorrow I will change my location tag back to what it was originally and replace the image I had in my signature which they removed. If moderators leave my account alone, then I might continue.

Please, mistakes have been made and our Developer Relations team will be working with Meticulous to resolve. Infraction was reversed some time ago. Please give us some time to do this without further stirring emotions.
Thanks for the passion you all bring to XDA!

We apologize, we have reversed infraction within minutes of issuing, sent 2 apologies and tried to resolve issues with the Developer Relations Team. Many PMs have gone back and forth with the DRT. Unfortunately Meticulous would rather continue to use XDA to make his political views known against our rules. A cool off period has been issued. Hopefully he will see the importance of his development to all his followers.
Thank you all for keeping XDA the #1 site for Android development!

A Moderator

Have some questions .. would be glad if some one answers them
How do you become one ?
Is any one allowed to become a mod or only the site owners / major contributors allowed?
Are there seperate mod's for each section of an PDA section?
Thanks
Well, to be honest there really isn't a set of requirements but there are some things common amoungst your Moderators.
First, we are all recgonized as active and contributing members fo the forum, For some of us our contributions were/are as Rom Chefs, software developers etc and for others it was being helpful to other forum users and working actively with the existing Moderators by actively reporting violations of the site TOS and helping keep us aware of developing situations which required out attention.
Second, we are generally a group of very knowledgable PPC/SP Phone users. Most of us have years of experience even going back to the days when a cable was required to connect your PPC to your Cell phone and GPRS was slower than a modem from the 70's (some of us even remember those modems from the 70's - Acoustic Coupler anyone!). Now there are some who don't do back that far but certianly have caught up to (and even surpassed a few of us) in the "knowledgable" category.
Third, we all have come to love XDA-Developers and want to help it continue to develop (ha ha) in a positive manner.
Finally, we all volunteered for the gig and have accepted the highly exaggerated paychecks that XDA-Devs provides. Okay so the paycheck isn't real but how can you put a price on knowing that you are helping maintain something that inspires and guides so many users on a daily basis.

Stop crying about "donateware"

All this superhero DONATEWARE OH MY GOD NO bull**** needs to stop. It is not, and never was, the intent of nathan or pulser to charge money for a rom. Superhero 1.0.0 was clearly marked a beta test, and under normal circumstances would have only been tested by the villain team. However, being nice dudes, they decided to let people who paid for their website and hosting try it out as well as an added bonus for their donation.
Let me remind you again that this entire time, superhero was clearly marked beta test and every indication was made that a less buggy and feature complete version would be released to the public on xda.
Of course, all you entitled sons of *****es cried that it was UNFAIR and that you wanted to be a part of the cool kids club, simply because your internet ego was so goddamn big that you thought you could get whatever you wanted from crying hard enough. Well, when you didn't get your way of course you just started crying more about how unfair it was, how terrible the villain team was, how they ate babies to fuel their rom-o-tron 9000, and how they lied publicly about superhero to get the dollars.
Well, things certainly look different now, dont they? Superhero 1.1.0 is public and free, just like you wanted, and you dont care because feeyo is your newest internet qq target. Shut the **** up, let our devs work, and take your bull**** crying out of the DEVELOPMENT forum so the devs can work without you filling their threads with nonsense.
Mods: please let this stay in development for a while so everyone can read it.

I too lol'd. I lol'd in agreement.
lol you got some serious frustrations. And yes Feeyo has dropped here with the best rom out at the moment.

And this free publishing, why ?????
Is this not a forum ???

I think OP's point was more, they're not taking money for it. They're doing a closed beta with their donators. If other people want to help out by donating and testing, there's no problem, surely.
I just can't grasp how incredibly tight you'd have to be to begrudge a guy a few quid when he dedicates that much time to development, "against the GPL" or otherwise

What they said
Seriously... No comment.
i'm ashamed to say i got it off usenet without donating, but i don't believe that's legally theft.
we should have a forum for inter-ROM team toe2toes.
I don't care about donateware, as long as I don't see it on the forum.

No, it's not theft at all because Android (and derivatives) are licenced under the GNU GPL.
Doing a 'little bonus' for people that donated is nothing wrong IMHO, but apparently it can quickly look like something else.
so on that subject, I completely agree with the OP.
I don't agree with his tone and language, but I do agree on his statement .
What this has to do with Freeyo and his ROM is a mystery to me though. More and more I see why dev's go away from XDA... the most vocal people on the fourm are the users of the ROMs and the devs don't have a normal place to talk amongst each other besides moving to different forums or use something else... a shame.
the mentality of the Android (and (gsm) Hero specially) section is sooo much different from the WinMo section I for example don't want to try cooking for Android... there is little to no community feel on XDA on the Android sections.
Anyone that decide to post their works on xda have to know what is the purposing of the forum...
If anyone don't agree with this way of work, then can choose any of the million of forums in the web.....
I think is very simply...
Regards....
EDIT: And don't forget that a lot of dev's that today have their own forum, had started their job here, and used the forum for their purposing.....

nope, that is a common misconception that a lot of people have about the gpl. as a matter of fact there is nothing in the gpl that restricts people from selling it, the only requirement of the gpl is that the source code has to be released and thats it. there are tons of commercial software out there that contains gpl code.
and for those of you who wants proof here is a link to the official gpl faq:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#DoesTheGPLAllowMoney
lol... so ppl who actually pay money are the ones to get the buggiest version of your software? Nice policy I'm sure you'd have tons of happy customers I wouldn't have cared the tiniest bit about superhero being donate rom (since there are plenty of fast vanilla roms out there), had it not been a thread in the development section for more than a week?! I mean... I'm ok with ppl selling stuff, I'm not okay with selling it on xda...

[REF] How NOT to Treat Developers

I can't believe I have to write this post. Not long ago, the Atrix community on XDA-Developers was one of the most civil, respectful, and kind groups out there. Now, it appears new members have either joined and not learned the rules. Or, perhaps the older members forgot the rules. I'm ashamed and sad that the Atrix community let me down.
I will reiterate some of the rules below.
Do not demand things from developers. This may include feature requests for future releases. There is a line between respectfully requesting new features and disrespectfully demanding them. Learn it.
Do not swear on XDA-Developers ever.
Be kind and polite to all members, especially developers.
Be civil. There is a fine line between healthy debate and arguing. Do not cross that line.
Use the report button at the top right of each post to tell the moderation staff (me) that a post breaks the rules.
Do not give nonconstructive criticism to developers.
I agree with almost everything you said, Ken, except the part about this being an Atrix forum problem. From what I've seen, this is a growing problem in all of XDA as new people join the conversations, a growing number of people who feel free to say any damn thing they like without consequence simply because they're hidden behind a handle (without taking into account that there are real people just like them on the other side of their screens). Respectfully, it seems to me that to single out the Atrix forums for this problem -- which they do have, no question about it -- seems rather short-sighted.

What I meant by that insertion was that the Atrix forum community 8-9 months ago rarely/never behaved this way. The problem isn't necessarily with one forum or with XDA itself. I didn't mean to say that.
You nailed the problem on the head— people on the internet (no matter what forum you visit) will act as if there are no consequences and hide behind their web usernames.
Be civil. There is a fine line between healthy debate and arguing. Do not cross that line.

The biggest issue, in my opinion.
Aside from the fact that users are often going "I'll donate IF you do this, IF I can have this by then" to developers.
This is more of an XDA Problem in general; with such a large user base, I suppose manners have simply disappeared on the forums.
Anyway, though I can't apologize on behalf of the rude and inconsiderate users you have probably dealt with, I'd like to personally say thank you for dealing with us all.
The demands made on the developers show a complete lack of respect and maturity, in my opinion.
The same should also be applied to fellow users. A little common respect for each other goes a long way. The constant bickering, name calling, and insults gets old fast.
Thanks for addressing this issue, Ken!
Yeah. I think you guys touched on an important point: Treat people on XDA as you would politely in real life.
There are no robots on XDA. Each account has a real person behind it— a real person that can be frustrated, embarrassed, angry, and self-conscious.
you tell'em oldschool!!!

Thanks for your input. Remember, the best way you can help keep our community great is to report people when they step out of line. Happy posting!
Another point which you can add :-
Please note that the devs have a personal life as well and do this for fun or learning new things in there free time. They have a day time job which pays for this hobby. Please respect that.
I apologise for sounding like an old man. I promise you i am not. This kind of thing had been a problem for a long time on Internet forums. Any one remember chat avenue? I believe that this has become more of a problem at xda because even though the site has any moderators their primary concern is technical and intellectual property. This is vital for a site such as this. But maybe there should be more enforcement of the rules of behavior? A couple of friendly warnings and advice and then failing that a tempory suspension. Failing that we trace their ip and send in a team of assassins.
i have to agree with this thread fully, sadly it came to this that it has to be stated so obvious, but some people really use words like "i want to have..." "make this..." and so on expressing rather demands than wishes/suggestions , it is true many users on xda are not native english speaking (me included), but there should be at least some thought put into posting so that it doesnt come out as demands or insults even.
As a non-english speaking dude, I *try* to avoid several expressions that perhaps in my native language may even sound polite, but translating them into english may sound bad, and express myself into simple english instead. If every non-english spoken people around here do the same, it will be easier separate the wheat from the straw...
My joining date don't make justice (at all) over the time I'm enjoying XDA developers' fruits, thus I want to express my most sincere thanks to every each developer and offer my humble help at anyone I can.
Keep doing the incredible job you're doing!!
As a non-native speaker it's not easy to hit the right tone. Most try their best but I think for some its hard to formulate a polite request, feature suggestion or bug report as such in a foreign language. And sometimes it comes out as a forceful command even if unintended.
And yes then there is the problem of individuals who can't even be polite in their own language because they never learned.
Lastly there are life forms who do not want to be polite without cause of beeing provoked.
For the first group I hope you use the principle of benefit of the doubt.
For the second we could try to teach them.
For the third just ban them.
My Story...
If you look at my join date, you'll see that I am also a very new member to these forums.
However, when I started, I was a total noob. So nooby that I got an infraction
I was only 16 and I knew nothing about ADB, editing build.prop's and all sorts; all I knew was how to flash stuff from recovery. I was admittedly a flash-o-holic, using Alien, Aura, DarkSide and Home Base ROM's and continuously switching back and forth.
Yet from this background, I have now created Neutrino ROM. The XDA forums as a community is a really good way to gain knowledge about all sort's of cool stuff. When used properly, it could really bring out the 'developer' inside of people. Creating my ROM was actually much easier than initially expected, and as time went on, I learnt more and more, enabling myself to include cooler and cooler tweaks.
My point is, that when these forums are used properly, it can really change people's lives. I think even Kennethpenn was in a similar situation, as I remember watching a video review of Alien ROM and it said in the description that he was a new developer.
It's a real shame that trolls cause all sorts of issues in the forums. If people respect each other and appreciate the benefits of open-source, then what a community this great community already, will be.

Fair enough. If you think your message may be unclear, just make sure to say "English is my second language" or something. I know the feeling. When I speak to people in Spanish, I can accidentally sound rude and not even know it.
I see a Nation flag of the user beside most posts.
If its not US, UK, Australia (please forgive me for not listing all other English native speaking Nation) I just consider it an accident if he was rude.

I fully agree with you, this has happened to me in Simply-android, made a request, but translated into English for the dev sounded bad, I had difficulty explaining that there was an obrigation, but a request ...
ps: is now happening again ....# 1158, # 1159 ....... sometimes it seems they are just waiting for someone to ask for something to start the insults ...
this is very sad ...
I'm glad that you pointed out the fact that some "veterans" of XDA can also be the problem. Some users like to act as the Judge and Jury all by themselves.
Now, I'm not saying I'm completely innocent, sometimes I take my shots at some people that are being malcontent but I do try to help them in that situation. What I have tried doing is to provide assistance with a dose of mild, if not playful, "flaming" just as a friendly reminder of the rules and etiquette. For the most part, I usually get positive responses in those instances. I guess my point is, it might be okay to, every once in awhile, criticize someone as long as you are trying to help and are being positive about it.
I can relate to @Notorious544d about being a n00b. One of my very first posts on XDA was a thread I started in the Development forum asking a question But I was met with positive feedback and a reminder of the rules and I haven't done it again.
Now, if you find yourself in a position where you can't be positive or constructive in your response then either ignore it or report it. Just my 2 cents, hope I didn't step out of bounds on this one.
EDIT: I'm speaking about when interacting with other users and not developers.

Are we banning all DEVS now?

I understand this may not be the place or the time for this, but I have to ask due to the recent ban and closure of one of the primary threads I contribute too here on XDA.
I happen to be a Vivid owner. I am a trained IT guy and have over 20 years of hardware support and over 10 years of software/hardware development testing and support. Having worked for NASA and Compaq/HP. I would like to think I'm mature as the next guy. But I do maintain a certain level of immaturity so that I can enjoy life when needed.
I am totally at a loss as to why Synergye, who is by far one of the most dedicated and involved developers I have ever had the pleasure to work with has been banned and his development thread close by some unknown mod for some unknown reason. I have never seen a dev that is as attentive to his product as Synergye is. He takes all the input and cranks out new code sometimes in as little as an hour. His kernel went from a1 to about 16, then from beta1 to 16 and is now in RC state and tweaked to the point of almost being perfect.
The man is a machine. I have worked with teams of devs that could not keep up with him. The whole while he is dealing with the f00ked up code that HTC has handicapped our device with. And he has also been involved in other projects most of that same time. (Anyone familiar with codefires ASOP HTC Vivid ROM??)?
I don't need to know who or why is behind this. I just want to express that if this mod is holding personal grudges against Syn then he shouldn't be a mod!!! Mods should be impartial and fair. How do I know? I have been one many times before on both forums and IRC!!!!
So delete this thread ot lock it and ban me. I have no power here and I am just a peon in the pecking order here. That's OK we (i and the frog in my pocket) can go play somewhere else!
I agree with u sir. He was a great developer that's been updating his kernel almost every other day or every day. I love his work and think the mod that banned him needs to rethink his decision and like you said xda isn't the only place to get his latest work

Not all of them, just those who do not follow the forum rules.
Move along, nothing to see here....

Another one bites back

Sadly, today an amazing Dev has been forced to close a thread because of the ignorance and absolute selfishness of a spiteful and moronic user base.
Let it be known to all, that developers use their own time and resources to bring us their work and prolong the life of our devices.
Let it be known to all, that intolerance will not be tolerated. No patience given to the impatient and sanctions placed on those who insist on breaking the basic rules of politeness and decorum in the forums.
One such sanction is an enforced thread lock brought on by incessant philistinism.
We, as a community need to pay respect for developers who help to improve our device experience, not push them away.
I sincerely hope that the decision is made for @corsicanu to return, but I will personally advise that he spends a good amount of time away from this part of the community where, vicious, acerbic and often cruel outlooks have become the toxic norm.
I wish @corsicanu all the best and thank him for bringing his knowledge and absolute commitment to our device.
As always, brother, keep the faith.

I reckon we should move away from xda entirely. I'm setting up a mastodon server, and if you would want to host blog posts, updates etc. I would be happy to take it on board. It would be your own page with your own full controls on how it looks, what people can access it and what they can see. Heck, you could add a donations button. Anything to support your great work. You already have me on telegram so just let me know if you're interested. I will have the server set up in the next few weeks. I guess I could also dedicate some space on the cloud storage area for roms to be hosted as a mirror, but again that's up for discussion. Just let me know how you feel about this if you're interested.
It's a shame that it's come to this but XDA is just full of t***s (if you know what I mean) and I feel like mastodon is the future anyways.

No. Don't think that way...It's been a thing that's really gone on for a long time..really almost 18 months. It's been gradually getting worse and things have to come to a halt because of this.

Just noticed you're using RR 7 as your main os? how? When I used it last it was very unfinished, unless you've been building yourself. I would get round to doing that but the Lineage 16 repo is like 100 or so gb and that would be mad to download on my rural internet, maybe days.

RR7 is very stable for me. crDroid is most stable and best to customize, but I'm back on HadesROM v6 simply for performance

Easy way to update. Wrap device in aluminium foil whilst restarting. This will generate enough MHz to push notifications to the system server for a forced update to OneUI. Once you have restarted, rewrap the device and to initiate the upgrade, place the device into the microwave and put on medium/high settings for 45 seconds. This, again will create enough gamma harvesting to recreate the SoC and ensure stable application of the OneUI to your device. Allow device to cool (lol...sometimes they can get a little hot), then restart.
We profit
