Sadly, today an amazing Dev has been forced to close a thread because of the ignorance and absolute selfishness of a spiteful and moronic user base.
Let it be known to all, that developers use their own time and resources to bring us their work and prolong the life of our devices.
Let it be known to all, that intolerance will not be tolerated. No patience given to the impatient and sanctions placed on those who insist on breaking the basic rules of politeness and decorum in the forums.
One such sanction is an enforced thread lock brought on by incessant philistinism.
We, as a community need to pay respect for developers who help to improve our device experience, not push them away.
I sincerely hope that the decision is made for @corsicanu to return, but I will personally advise that he spends a good amount of time away from this part of the community where, vicious, acerbic and often cruel outlooks have become the toxic norm.
I wish @corsicanu all the best and thank him for bringing his knowledge and absolute commitment to our device.
As always, brother, keep the faith.

Just angry. You know I've been fighting your corner and trying to maintain some sort of order. Lay low for a while. Anything you need - you know where to find me.

Hello,
I watched things going over the last few days. I wanted to thank corsicanu for his great work on hadesrom which I use since a few months because (almost) only d**b people talked over the last few days.
@moozer you are totally right that shouldn't happen. But I want to underlign the fact that most of the people who are benefiting from the excellent work of @corsicanu are not talking on those threads (the famous silent majority). And we are all thankfull for the great work done by you. Please always ignore the stupid ones in this community as you do and keep up the great job up for all devices!
Best wishes for that pie adventure!

I feel like I'm the culprit since I think I was the first one to point out the video in corsi's description. I'm sorry.

No. Don't think that way...It's been a thing that's really gone on for a long time..really almost 18 months. It's been gradually getting worse and things have to come to a halt because of this.

I reckon we should move away from xda entirely. I'm setting up a mastodon server, and if you would want to host blog posts, updates etc. I would be happy to take it on board. It would be your own page with your own full controls on how it looks, what people can access it and what they can see. Heck, you could add a donations button. Anything to support your great work. You already have me on telegram so just let me know if you're interested. I will have the server set up in the next few weeks. I guess I could also dedicate some space on the cloud storage area for roms to be hosted as a mirror, but again that's up for discussion. Just let me know how you feel about this if you're interested.
It's a shame that it's come to this but XDA is just full of t***s (if you know what I mean) and I feel like mastodon is the future anyways.

Just noticed you're using RR 7 as your main os? how? When I used it last it was very unfinished, unless you've been building yourself. I would get round to doing that but the Lineage 16 repo is like 100 or so gb and that would be mad to download on my rural internet, maybe days.

Easy way to update. Wrap device in aluminium foil whilst restarting. This will generate enough MHz to push notifications to the system server for a forced update to OneUI. Once you have restarted, rewrap the device and to initiate the upgrade, place the device into the microwave and put on medium/high settings for 45 seconds. This, again will create enough gamma harvesting to recreate the SoC and ensure stable application of the OneUI to your device. Allow device to cool (lol...sometimes they can get a little hot), then restart.

[DEV] Blackstone Android development

I'm starting a new thread for discussion focused on development of the linux kernel and android porting. The thread we've been using recently was started by xmoo, who is no longer involved. Another thread started by tuxhero is focused only on his personal project and a lot of user support, so we need a more technical thread.
I'll jazz it up a bit when I get time.
Here's a first contribution.
We don't have enough buttons on the Blackstone. All the builds so far have 4 (receiver up, home, back and receiver down, as per the icons on the bottom of the device). Android is easier to use with a menu button too, so here's a kernel where the bottom row is remapped to 5 buttons. Imagine instead of the 4 icons you have five, with MENU in the middle. The others are shifted outwards slightly to make room for the "invisible" menu button. It's not an ideal solution, but I got used to it pretty quickly.
Instructions: whatever build you're using, unzip and replace the zImage file on the SD card with this one (tested on the 0.2 build from tuxhero's thread)
Hope more techies join this thread to get the desired results.
Personally I'm waiting to see if Tuxhero is actually going to solve any of the hardware problems. I'm open minded about this, on the one hand his previous grand claims came to nothing. On the other hand, he can clearly hack kernel and probably hack android so perhaps there are great things to come. I'd like to see more than a kernel and android build borrowed from other people's projects, or at least if he's going to rebadge open source products, to adhere to the GPL by releasing his sources so others can learn from them. One thing he might need to consider is whether Google's lawyers, in the light of the Cyanogen case, will be happy with him accepting donations while redistributing their IP.
at least he renamed the "name" of this release from "vogue linux" to "blackstone linux"..
was funny to read that..
That's nice guys. Wait i will post link to your thread and get more people to you.
I really like it guy. If i don't see all this crap then i will sleep peace fully now that ur there to keep me
reminded abt my project and get me back to work on my project. Please don't stop guys because you are the reason for my work.
Beautiful. I will try that 5btn mapping, didn't even think it was possible, thanks!

When i want to start every thing from beginning you are the one who shouted at me now when i accepted my mistake and joined other dev and working together and using old work you are the one shouting again. Are you mentally retarded?
What's ur problem patp? My donation? My Kernel? My Android? My Project?
What the hell is your porblem.
Woah woah woah. Guy's atleast we've seen dome decent progress from Tux aha!
I don't know Tux very well. But he's a very hardworking person, he also contributes a lot to this forum and i'm sure some others too.
i saw in the last project he had how much people like you flamed him, me and a lot of other people stood by him and saw progress, so i'll carry on sticking by him.
Finding funny things to read? aha how pathetic, i'd like to see someone who has never made a mistake of some sort.
The only mistake Tux actually made was releasing android beta in a community where people like you can get to it. However, me, like most other people are thankful for his work, if you don't like it, ignore it, don't joke and flame about it.
Keep up with the good work Tux.
From my opinion, tuxhere is the ONLY reason andorid is working on blackstone. Other teams tried, HE DID IT!
I'm very glad and proud of his project and i think he is the track we need to follow and help.
Tuxhero, you have my entire support.
For all others, i think we can all help and learn but we can't say bad things about tuxhero and his work because when i tmatters to android in blackstone, he is the man!

Be cool
I don't like the "fifth invisible button" solution, it's not elegant.
Imho the long press solution tux proposed is better.
Flaming is not the way to have android working on our device...

And by the way, XDA is all about accepting donations while redistributing stuff....Are you going to warn all the cooks to..c'mon dude..
So i wish you a happy time and good luck in your own topic here.
He's leading the way for other developers too. In an open community like this you can't work against eachother all the time. Tuxhero is trying to bury the waraxe, but patp seem to continue beeing an asshole. Hope it gets sorted out real quick, wouldn't have any of the project dying due to some idiotic personal conflict.

When u did some thing then do post some time. If i see another post from you about me then my actions will be very very serious.
Thanks For The +1 pkshr
All im getting from this is how jealous patp is that Tux carried on with his own 'personal project' and succeeded.
patp, if i was you i'd stop it now before i made even more of a fool of myself in front of more people, because people are going to read this, and you may have the odd person that dislikes Tux that flames him for you, but theres always going to be the majority of people backing Tux on anything he does for this community.

[Q] Suggestions for improving Forum Etiquette

This is my reply to the mess of a thread located at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781513
I hope my suggestions are taken in the very helpful spirit that they were typed.
Thanks folks.
I'm gonna be all trolly here and what not. Is there not a way to simply FORCE people to read? As in, you can't post for 3 weeks after you join? It wouldn't stop people from being stupid, but it would help train them to Search & Read in the 3 weeks that they desperately wait for a Rom to drop.
This thread has the train wreck effect... I couldn't not read the whole damn thing. (I am actually very interested in getting the originally mentioned feature, btw.) And yes my post is Off-Topic, yet ridiculously relevant. I have quietly been a member of this forum for years and haven't seen this kind of wasted space ever. Maybe I should stop recommending people "Go check out xda developers online..." I am partially responsible for getting these people here. But, I believe a strong, open community is the best way to get results. Perhaps, all new members trying to post new threads outside of the General/Q&A forums get redirected to the Advanced Search page unless verified by a mod as a legitimate dev contributor? I am sure that would require coding a module for the forums... And since I don't know how to do any of that I will end my trolliness now. Oh wait, maybe a simpler solution - A "Wrong forum button" where if enough people vote the post gets moved. Seems simple enough and the mods can get the help they need without have the more - zealous - members of our community take matters into their own hands.
Thanks for your time and attention to my suggestions. I will now look for an appropriate place to post this in the main forum.
-Memo
See that's why I voted "against" xda samsung section, you'll see it will be even worse when we get an lg and istick sections
This place is becoming just like other places only flaming and "your problems are stupid because this is alright for me". Luckily there are still a lot of decent people around here which make me stay.
poll looks pretty inconclusive to me
Very umm, intellectual thread read that was.
But you know when inviting a couple of close friends over turns into a full blown Hizouse Partaaay a couple of fights are gonna break out...
Actions as such in that thread aren't very rampant but can make for an interesting read. But comparing contributions, join date and or post count in any situation is pretty moronic.
Has there ever been a thread where it ended happy and all party's posted:
Like, man I'm sorry man I was drunk.
Oh no man it's cool, man my wife was gettin on me about the garbage and kids were nagging.
So are we cool?
Yeah man. Can I invite you as a friend?
Oh totally!
That would be awesome to see...
good day.
I have seen many happy ending threads actually.
And honestly, I didn't really understand your ideas on what is being discussed. I think that if the actions were rampant then this site would be dying as many have before. XDA has a very long legacy, and it should be protected BEFORE it becomes a problem. Just how telling a 15 y/o that suddenly his backtalk is not acceptable would have no effect, telling the new influx of users being drawn by the boom in mobility that they have to behave in the forums when everything they see is "IS.HE.THE.DADDY.DNA.TEST-Developers.com" would be ineffective. Needs to be taken care of early. Prevent the problem. Don't waste tons of resources trying to fix it.
And just to be clear were you at all trying to be offensive, snarky, or sarcastic? Just curious.

Actually just noticed the [Q] on the thread title, your post didn't really reference adding on to your suggestions. So my bad for not seeing the [Q]. Wrong forum button does have some potential. But the experienced xda user should know who his forum mod is and send a pm outlining any gripe with link to thread before turning it into a public chest puffing competition where in the end all who participated look like morons.
Is it feasible to have an ethics moderating committee that would monitor the content and actions of the first 15 posts of a new member? But it all still comes down to an individual showing that they have the utmost respect for xda and its users. Members involved in your example are not spring chickens and should be a little ashamed. Because a new user might think that is the norm for the forum.

No. The house party statement does hold a lot truth though. Even 3 years ago the "smart phone" was seen as a business tool. Even you brought up the influx of new users as result of the mobile boom. I'm 36 now and didn't even get a cell phone till I was 23. Now I see children with devices that I would die to have or be able to afford. The age demographic of this site has changed so dramatically over the last couple of years. And as elder members we can only protect the image of xda by policing our own actions and utilizing the forum mods for what they are intended for.
Since it is off topic I still feel like I need to have a little fun.
Boobs....... o.k. I'm done.
good day.
a good start would be requiring everyone to add a nice greeting to the end of their posts according to the time of the day
ive talked to the mods about this in the past and they liked the idea, but havent added it yet:
requiring a signature to be set up upon first signing up to xda including current phone/s, rom, recovery, hboot, kernel...
having set up so that registering could not continue without filling out these fields (of course there would have to be a "how-to" option to help those that dont know what those are or how to find out what they have)
this would stop the
"can someone help me please! my phone wont boot"
"what phone do you have?"
"G1"
"what rom are you running?"
"stock 1.6"
"what hboot?"
exchanges which take up half the posts in a lot of threads

I don't know that it would be feasible. I was even thinking of perhaps a Volunteer Buddy Moderation, where you have to submit your first 5 posts for approval from a mentor. The mentor would be in charge of making sure the protocol was followed - Search And Read, Label subject line correctly, and provide full info... I just don't know that anyone is willing to work on the actual Forum Coding... And adding more work to the mods wouldn't be a good idea. If they had the time to constantly be vigil, they would kill the problem posts as soon as they are noticed.

Some people have every intent of being offensive. Don't really get the point but hey.
Kids will be kids
What i see is a lot of kids (15-30) in this forum tend to think since they know...... you should too. Forums should encourage newbies to get involved and once they are communicating then, reroute them to the right forum etc. this kind of considerate rational act would improve and make this forum WAY better, but then, I digress.
Requiring the signature probably would be helpful, but I think the moderator being vigilant and remind the sarcastic, inconsiderate they once were Newbies may be just as effective. People need to remember that not all here are devs, programmers or really techies. A lot are here for the education..... but then....my wife always said i was too much an idealist
WOW hit a new level HERE.
good day.

A closed sticky for ART info?

I think it would be a great idea if there was a sticky referencing ART. I know it's in the FAQ, but honestly that doesn't even reference lollipop so it's not particularily findable. (It's also updated a long time ago, so someone looking at the dates would be excused for assuming it's not relevant anymore). To make things as smooth and easy as possible I suggest an ART sticky topic.
I have an ulterior motive though, I would like to be able to subscribe to a topic that is closed so I can receive an update the moment there is news.
Checking the forum every day for news just breeds frustration and stupid posts.
Or is someone aware of a twitter or something else that can be subscribed to for latest-news-if-there-is-in-fact-news ?
Considering anytime rovo speaks we see an androidpolice our xda story about it I really don't think you'll need to follow it closely.
At this point it's a better bet to realize XPosed isn't going to upgrade and I would be skeptical of anyone else who tries to come up with a hack job solution.
I honestly think it's best if it isn't mentioned or posted about any more by anyone but rovo89.
This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but can you imagine being placed under this much pressure to produce an update for something that you originally made for free in your spare time?
The constant questioning and prodding about it, when he's already said he'll work on it after the retail L released and the source dropped is getting to an unacceptable stage now in my opinion.
I would be at the point of abandoning it by now and walking away (at least publicly).

I agree....which is why I think a small statement from Rovo would be a wonderful thing.....worst case scenario, he has walked away. At least then we will know either way and the rest of the community can try to pick up the project in his absence.
He's already said multiple times what the situation is and when he would work on it. For a start, in a detailed post here.
I see little point in him repeatedly stating the same thing just because there are impatient people that can't just wait until rovo is ready to post news, like he's asked.
As said earlier, as soon as rovo speaks about the future of Xposed, then it's all over Android news sites within minutes. Nobody will miss any news.

Say that to Valve. I don't think there is anything wrong with rovo89 re-assuring everyone what he's doing. I mean, it doesn't take many minutes to post on the forum. It surely even less seconds for a tweet or reply. As a person that gets completely connected to the software they use, knowing that that time is moving at the same pace as the developers perspective brings you at ease. I don't really see a harm in him updating less than once a month about it.
It sure as hell wouldn't make me feel as bad as Valve makes me feel sometimes. Of course, that's just "well-being" everyone has to deal with. When i'm doing big projects, I tend to tweet, or make a post just to keep people alert. There's some cases where the initial developer leaves and leaves the air dry, and they would literally take the spirit of the whole scene with them. When it comes to tomorrows tech, everyone misses the news. (Also, I know what you meant by nobody will miss the news as in everyone would get updates from Android headlines all over the place. I just wanted a nice segue lol).
Please see this post. I've added a link to it in the FAQ (post #3).
I believe the other part of the FAQ post does a good job of explaining the rest.
EDIT: I've also created and stuck a redirect thread which takes you to the relevant FAQ entry: "Does Xposed run on ART / Android 5.0 / Android L / Lollipop yet?".

The OP5 Chill Out thread [OFF TOPIC ALWAYS ;)]

Drop in, introduce yourself, post pictures, ask dumb questions, talk, tease, chill out.
In memory of the beloved RC, @simms22 .
We've needed a thread like this ever since everyone wanted to constantly complain and nitpick (iPhone this, jelly that, etc). Cool.
Yep.
Stressed out and back home after a day's work. Was looking for a thread like this and found none. Nexus forums have a lot of these. At least when I used to own Nexus.
So thought I'd go ahead and create one cos I know we've got a lot of users.
All the negativity around here made me second guess my purchase a little and didn't have a single problem with my phone ?
Great thread!

Staying stock for now. No need to root for me at the moment.
I'll probably jump on lineage for a bit when Android O is released.

Stock for the foreseeable future. When I finally get to the point where I unlock, I'll probably be on an OOS based ROM. OOS is just so good. Plus it'll probably take awhile for aftermarket ROMs to get the dual camera working 100%.

Should be getting my device today and I am excited. First OnePlus deviice. Hopefully no issues for me, fingers crossed. Used to be a heavy Android user, lately iPhone user. Making the decision to become a programmer has me interested in Android again and to learn java programming language. I will probably skin some things for this phone and maybe otthers if I pick up more Android phones, hell maybe build some roms in the near future.
bad night at work, mainly fixing others peoples f--- ups and sovling issues. I don't go back to work till Monday....... so fishing, gaming, messing with this phone (if no issues are found), birthday party, chilling with my daughters, school work, and swimming. Might be off work, but probably not much rest lol. :highfive:

Nice. I think you'll love the device.
Tip: Just don't bother with the negativity in the forum, the YouTube videos and news articles. Needless to say, I've seen people *****ing about the device every which way. This phone has been great for me, I've seen zero issues so far. I got it during the preorder sale.
This is my first oneplus device too. Oneplus has come a long distance from being "just another cheap Chinese phone", when I was skeptical about it, to creating a name in the smartphone industry.
I have been a Nexus fanatic since the nexus 4 but I don't think they are worth the price tag anymore.
I kinda started out like you, interested in Android, started off learning Java, building roms for the Nexus 4 ( I was on a team that built roms called Euphoria OS, now defunct). Then, as everyone lost interest, I shifted to making money out of coding skills. Built a couple of Android apps. Now I also do Python and JavaScript mainly. Its been a fun ride, never regretted my decision.

Redmi Note 7 Tips and Tricks, First 10 Things To Do!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xZG6qUU8ak
After you have run through the initial setup of your new Redmi Note 7 here are a few things you should do first on the Note 7.
I do two things, set gps to battery saving, and in developers options set limit proces to three instead of standard. I notice that battery last longer

Yeah how about you build your own ROM. Be patience. Developers are doing it if they felt like doing it. Stop barking if this phones never gets Pixel Experience ROM. Also this phone just came out for some places officially

You're here on this forum since just one month and you really think you can complain about not having your new toy and scream about it ? If you're not happy with what devs give us FOR FREE... what are you doing here ? do u understand words like "community", "free work" and "sharing" ? i guess no.
Please, with all respect, do not respond, you will just look more stupid (if it's even possible).
Not releasing source code isn't sharing ?

You are a living example of what is wrong with this community and how much better it used to be. A lot of cocky ungrateful brats these days, acting like people owe them anything lol. Well here is the truth, no one owes you **** here buddy, so stop crying and whining, or as another user already said, build the rom yourself if you are so smartass. Also, you seem to have big problems with maths, because this device was released february 28. So its not even 3months old yet lmao. Just stop talking nonsense please, no one likes or appreciates your attitude in this forum.

You know, a couple of you guys aren't exactly helping the mood or fostering the feeling of community. I'm being blunt, not trying to continue the attacks. Folks that have been around for a while are right to keep the new people and haters in check, no doubt we need that, but jumping all over someone when he wasn't really begging, complaining about anyone in particular, or being especially rude, is a bigger problem - this turns new people off. The "old" members seem to get pissy a little too quick and a little too often, don't you think? We don't need XDA becoming 4chan/Android or the Twitter of development - we're all better than that.
I took his comment simply as frustration, and he was not incorrect, except he had the date wrong - and you seem to be aware of that, so cut him some slack, please. When you treat newer and less experienced people the exact same way you ask them NOT to act, they tend to go away rather than learn and eventually contribute to the community, and we need all the new help we can get. I'm sure I've been present in the Android ROM community for longer than anyone in this thread (2009, HTC Dream), and I don't stoop to personal attacks here (I save it for Reddit, LOL), so I'll kindly ask you all to stick to constructive comments. I'm sure you're all smart enough to point out to people where they've gone wrong without being twice as rude as them, right?
I'll go back to lurking now, and hope the Redmi Note 7 community here is a little nicer and more helpful than some of the devices I've been researching here lately. It used to be legitimately fun. Shout out to @owenbeals for getting the ball rolling on what should be a fun and insightful thread. Let's get it back on track.

First thing I do on any Android phone or tablet: Install Nova Launcher. I like how it works, I can easily set things up the way I'm used to having them, and it works reliably and smoothly.
For the Redmi Note 7, I went ahead and used my previous/existing phone to set things up more or less automatically, which I had not had great luck with in the past but worked very well to install my apps and whatnot. I did choose to restore my Nova settings from a backup saved to my Google drive, which worked, too.
I also install Textra immediately, and this time I didn't even bother trying Xiaomi's stock messaging app, because I like Textra that much. And I turned off auto brightness, because I never agree with it on what is the correct setting for any given environment.
What else, besides case and screen protector? I know, Gorilla Glass 5, but it can still scratch, and even a cheap slim case can help a phone survive the drops I'm sure to put it through. For the cheap price, I was tempted to go "naked," just to keep it slim and simple, but that's a recipe for disaster with my butter fingers.

Sorry but your post is wayyy too long to finish. I did read the first paragraph tho. And no, i dont feel like i did anything wrong here. He is rude, entitled and ungrateful person, thats a fact. No one likes his attitude here, thats also a fact. And its not only about this comment, if you look at his profile, hes a new member, whos all posts are the same, crying and whining and criticizing devs for not delivering his favourite rom like they owe him that. LOL. So yeah, im gonna stay with my words.

Next up is to unlock the boot loader, install TWRP, and try some ROMs. Big LOS fan, but I'll try any ROM that looks stable-ish.

But you said you gonna sell this device after 1 more week. So why lie? Lmao. You are pathetic atempt of a troll, everybody know you now, just gonna get ignored kiddo. Only thing we could potentially learn from you is being childish, self entitled, rude kiddo. Oh, and we could also learn broken math from you, because apparently its been over 6months since february 28 lmao.
