Yes go to Developer Settings>Oem Unlocking
Samsung doesn't have a bootloader in general.

but then I don't understand....
for the S7, the exnyos (usually european) version has an easier time to make custom roms for, custom roms everywhere, A series is like this too...
yet the snapdragon verison... no go! why is that?

Why is tab s2 not supported by devs?

This is such a great device, the only complain i have is that it lacks of custom rom and kernels

Don't know how to answer your question as devs on XDA are not paid to do this... it's more of a hobby. No way to tell what's going on in their heads. Also, custom ROMs and kernels is not a real complaint about a device.

Because the Tab S2 uses Samsung's own Exynos 5433 processor, which is a lot harder more difficult to work with compared to Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor.

Good insight. I'm awaiting delivery of mine right now, but I have noticed that it doesn't have the Dev support that devices released around the same time do. I got this largely because it has at least one custom ROM - thanks BigBot! - but it would be nice to see some of the more popular ROM support it too. I have no idea what I'm doing, but if I find the time, I may take a stab at cooking something up myself. Gotta wait for it to arrive first though!

It's not that the cpu is harder to work with, it's just that samsung are tight with the source code.
Qualcomm are much more forthcoming with theirs.
Also Samsung purposely attempt to prevent custom development and modifications to devices they build.
Add to that, that if many devices use the same processor or processor family it is much more likely that a developer will have one of those devices so he will be more motivated to to something with it and other devs can use their source. For example the exynos 5433 is used in the note 4 and that's basically it, i think, there is currently only raymanfx who's working with this specific SoC, so it isn't that easy. Concerning Qualcomm vs Exynos i'm actually not so sure about wether QC or sammy is more open right now, but if you compare for example the snapdragon 810, sd 808, sd 805 sd 800, they are often used in nexus phones, so there you have easy access to working with up to date source code. And since a company won't change that much regarding their best practices snapdragons will be similiar to other snapdragons and so on. The more a SoC is featured in different devices the more you will get dev support. Unfortunately that isn't the only criteria you will buy your device for, it might be a priority but certainly not the only one.
Just my two cents.
What shall developers to do? There are root, custom kernel, debloated stock, deodexed stock. There is ability to use Xposed and their modification modules. There are many launchers. What functionality we haven't and it is very important?

Exactly.
Simply flash a 5.1.1 stock ROM, root, debloat, use Xposed etc.
Then you have a wonderful device.
No need for custom ROMs or custom kernels.

True, which is why I prefer a lightly modified custom rom which I can customise.
Many rom builders go down the route of removing so much stuff from a stock rom that functionality is lost.
For me my tab s performs perfectly fine with the stock rom so I just customise it as I need.
I prefer the polished experience of a stock rom with all its bells and whistles on a premium device rather than removing all that and turning it into a basic run of the mill device.
To me building a rom is about providing a better experience with extra features and worthwhile tweaks not removing functionality.

I'm flashing back to 5.0.1. Dunno why but samsung seem to favour this over 5.1.1 . All the latest firmware are based on 5.0.2

I was wondering if 5.1.1 has an advantage over 5.0.2. ? (talking about T810)
For my region (LUX), latest available firmware is still 5.0.2. (and I have a feeling Samsung will skip 5.1.1 because of android 6 that's coming later this year)
I was wondering if it is possible to flash 5.1.1 XAC (canada) or XAR (cellular south) on my device (with region LUX) and if yes, will I have a better experience?
Someone has an idea?

I was on latest 5.1.1 now on latest firmware based on 5.0.2. There's no difference what so ever. If anything it seems a bit better performance wise. It had a huge changelog too on sammobile
Is there a recommendation out there for a root method for the T810? I just received one for my birthday
I just want to run basic stock and debloat.

I am new to the Tab S2 family. I got mine yesterday but I have been reading through the Galaxy Tab S2 section here on xda. While I agree there is a root method, it's not ideal as there is the KNOX counter problem.
I came from mostly Nexus devices which don't have such a KNOX system.
I appreciate all the developers/tinkerers here who have done what they have to get root access to the Tab S2, but I really which someone has hacked a way to reset the KNOX counter. As is, I'm very reluctant to root my Tab S2. I didn't pay to buy a new tablet to immediately void my warranty. Laws my differ country to country, but in the USA, one definitely voids the warranty if one roots and installs custom recoveries onto one's device. So it's imperative to defeat KNOX or at least be able to reset this KNOX counter that Samsung has on its devices.
I was not aware of this KNOX system on Samsung devices. It really does seem counter to the Android system which touts openness. I'm very anti iPhones/iPads because of Apple's completely closed off eco-system but Samsung seems to want a similar kind of closed-off system for its Android devices. Had I known about this KNOX system, I'm not at all sure I'd have purchased a Tab S2.
Anyway, I do wish there were more active developers tinkering/hacking the Tab S2.
Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I agreed, that KNOX is big problem without help of community.
I investigated a few and read about solution on Galaxy S6 Edge. They have engineering bootloader (but Samsung bans all links) and it supports only 5.0.2 roms (it supports 5.1.1 too, but without fingerprint function).
So, we need ENG bootloader too

Note 8 Future

I am curious about the future of the Note 8 of being able to have a custom ROM as a daily Driver. The Snapdragon version not the exynos. Thoughts?
Yeah, there is a Note8 roms section. You can check it out every day.

It's very doubtful we'll be having any fun with the Snapdragon variants. No root, no unlocked bootloader, no TWRP recovery.

No root? When did that happen. There is a SAMFail root for the Snapdragon in the section below this one.
Hasn't the no custom stuff been a thing for a while?
Haven't had a Samsung phone since note 4.

Safe strap

Hello, I am wondering if safe strap will be available for the note 9 u versions. Doesn't that work with locked boot loaders so we can still have custom ROMs and mods?

so yeah probably you have alot of catching up to do.
basically put, safe strap exploit is no more. and the future of using it again to root/custom recovery a QC snapdragon is looking bleak since the s8( root worked for only 3 or 4 months)
of course you could do yourself a favor and just get an international version instead. But note 9 development is slowing down.. it never got off to the same point as the previous models did.
Ok thanks for explaining

Custom Kernel support?

I have a general question about custom kernels.... Is a custom kernel specific to a device?
So can I currently install e.g. FrancoKernel or do I have to wait until it is supported...

A kernel is always highly device specific. It includes the low level interface to the hardware and as such needs the correct drivers for the individual hardware..
HIGHLY DEVICE SPECIFIC. I ran Franco for years on my Nexus devices but he'll never support a device he doesn't have and he'll never own one of these phones. Amazing Dev though. You can use his app still with these phones if you want to check it out

Why do you say he will never own one of these phones? He develops for pocophone, Redmi Note 3 and 4.

My mistake, its been a long time since I've checked in with Franco stuff :good:
Not only are custom kernels device specific but if you are unfortunate enough to own a device from XDA darlings One Plus there are separate kernels for Oxygen and non Oxygen based ROMs because there is so much code in Oxygen that veers from stock Android--in spite of the fact that reviewers always claim Oxygen is as close to stock Android as you can get. In reality Oxygen is as far as you can get from stock Android without buying an iPhone.
In spite of all the grumbling about MIUI and EMUI neither actually requires a kernel that won't boot up custom Android ROMs on the same phone.
I think that Mi9 will never get nice custom kernel. Mi9 SE has some, any SD855 has but not Mi9.. Dunno why. Kernel code was leaked before launching Mi9 sale.

Is it impossible to make kernel for Mi9 for now or what?

Any custom rom ?

I don't think there will be any support because of your Mediatek processor
Or not

Community should be good. It's seeling like hotcake in india . But if no source code then it's as good as dead. I just wish there would be some good custom rom.
No "Stock Android 10" for Redmi 9 ?
Hi!
I was looking around to find a ROM to install on my Redmi 9. As stock as possible.
From what I red in this thread, it seems that it's currently impossible ?
Am I right ?

Don't expect ROMs anytime soon without source code. Your best bet is a GSI but that's another story for MTK devices and Android 10 complicating matters further with dynamic partitions since the device was launched with Q. I'm interested in seeing someone successful boot a GSI on this device.
