So how come you can get the rom for snapdragon but not exynos.... I'm aware it's not officially out I'm talking about custom roms here
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs

Here's the thing. The snapdragon Oreo is a very early leak. So far there have been no leaks of Oreo for the Exynos Note 8. Different hardware, different kernels keep us where we are... waiting. I am sure once there is a leak or release of official Oreo we will see new custom rom's

You are asking for help, ok, you did not like one answer, ok again, but do not do exactly the same thing you complain about, for the other part, oreo rom was short lived beta first release to certain countries for snapdragons, not exynos, they stopped due to certain issues, and if you follow the progress of exynos note 8, you would know about it, If you are interested in flashing roms and mods, I sugest you to read first how roms and mods are installed, not here in specific forums, but in the general forums in XDA, after that, you can start reading about device-specific roms in exynos note 8 section, if you do not find roms there, then simply there aren't any yet, be more polite the next time you do not like an answer

I was not aware the oreo rom for snapdragon was a leak I thought it was a rip if some sort from the s8 plus rom

He was rude, you were rude. I guess the Note 8 is bringing out the worst in us.
Hopefully soon this will be over. What pisses me off about the delay is that I had the choice of getting the Snapdragon Note 8, for a lot less than what I shelled out for the exynos note 8. But I can remember thinking there was more Support for exyno, and they received leaks/updates faster.. If only I could go back

Well, dont regret it, when oreo outs, it will be released for both versions, the exynos versions have always been more versatile, in my case I never would have chosen the snap, as I wanted the 128 GB storage model

Ok guys this thread has been cleaned Let keep the comments down like this and keep it on track:good::good::good:

The Snapdragon one is the Official OTA update that has been uploaded to carrier servers to push out. It's just a way of manually installing it before carriers push OTA.

You don't find Oreo..... Oreo finds you

Since when does Samsung release Lollipop for the Exynos variant first, it was always first released for snapdragon...ohhh let's wait and see.

Note 3 and s4 exynos variants already got 5.0 update before snapdragon.
Makes me want to re-reflect, which is better, Exynos or Snapdragon Note 4? *cough*
Peeps we already have a Lolipop thread there is absolutely no need of any other thanks. Will be closed soon as well. :-/
Mod Edit
As has been suggested , there is already a lollipop thread.
Please use it.

Android 7.0 ROM For Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 (T-715)

Hi
I have recently purchased Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 (T-715) and rooted it. Few days back android 7.0 has released and I want to upgrade my tablet to android 7.0. It is not possible to upgrade from "About Device" menu as it gives error:
The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software update using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.

Last year same thing happened with my Nexus 7 and then I downloaded the rom and manually upgraded it. Now I want to do the same thing for my Samsung tablet but I am unable to find the rom.
Kindly guide me that from where I can download android 7.0 rom for my tablet?
Regards
Lol, you will probably never see android 7 on your device...
It's only available for nexus and the Pixel c for the moment.
And samsung will release it just for a few models.
Galaxy tab s2 may not be one of these

Its a bad news
Is there any general version of which can be downloaded and installed? like in linux kernels we have a "vanila" version which is originally released without any patches etc.
That's not true. As SamMobile published some times ago, our sm t-715 it's likely to be updated to the latest android version 7.0. Same as the other variants. There are no official informations though, but we will see in the future what happens. Personally by one side i think that our tab has the right specs to be updated, on the other side i'm afraid about two things:
1) Samsung could be lazy and forget a relatively new and high spec device to be updated
2) Developement community isn't very populated and every version of Android Nougat that will be out unofficially (if one there will ever be) will broken fingerprint support and Mobile network on LTE variants.
P.s i'm very sorry, i wish to link you to the article i saw on internet but i cannot fin it, very sorry.

Realistically, I think we will all be waiting somewhere between 6 months to 1 year, IF this tablet gets Android 7 at all.
If not, its a case of waiting for a custom rom.
If you wanted instant updates, you should have bought the Pixel C, (as the Nexus 9 is rubbish.)
tab s1 has just got android 6 so maybe there is hope for s2 and 7
I have two questions:
1. Are custom roms safe?
2. If you find any custom rom, will you post link here?
Thanks

No, never use a custom rom. All veterans here on XDA know only the North Koreans publish custom roms in hopes of tricking a newbie to download it so they can hack your computer.
If you have a friend that is using a custom rom on their phone please block there phone number if it is not too late, as a phone call from them will affect your phone as well.

Samsung Note 8 ROOT on Snapdragon update?

I know there's a root method out already, but I prefer to hold off given the potential limitations (especially the battery 80% issue).
Based on your experience, do you think there will be a better root method coming out soon?
Thanks!

because it requires a unlocked bootloader, not a engineering bootloader.
If the S8\s8+ doesn't get it, we def ain't gonna get it for Snapdragon users.
One of the main reasons i went exynos

Are you asking if someone has a crystal ball and can tell you the future development of the phone? Maybe they can give me winning lottery ticket numbers.

What that means is no one has been able to find a workaround (engineering or otherwise) or not smart enough to figure it out yet and they're not clairvoyant enough to know if anyone can in the future. But I think it's a great question that I had actually been wondering myself.

Soon? absolutely not. I recommend backing up your stuff using samsung cloud and trying the root to see how it affects you. Exynos has a Unlocked BL HOWEVER it does not work on CDMA carriers.

thanks for all the responses. very much appreciated.
i'm on Tmobile, so maybe i should get the exynos version if that root works better?
also, which phone/brand is easy to root?

if you get exynos there's a chance you'll have the issue where you have to wait 7 days to unlock your bootloader, you can get the korean version which comes unlocked out of box.
If you're not looking to deal with this kind of risk then go for pixel line, one plus 5\5t when it comes out, not sure what else really, the essential phone should have unlocked bootloader and roms soon as they've promised to release the source code and image files.
I have Note 8 snapdragon SM-N9500 unlocked from Hong Kong and I need TWRP for root but it is not out yet for Snapdragon AGH! waiting.. till 2018

SM-G973W to G973U

Hello everyone,
I have a canadian S10 SM-G973W from Rogers and I would like to know if its possible to flash a US firmware to change it to G973U. I want to do this to get the android 10 beta since it seem canada won't get it at all.
I've already looked on xda but I can't find any information about this. I've found some thread elsewhere about 973U user flashing canadian firmware and it worked but I don't want to brick my device. Thanks!
you can and I have but it would not give me the option to join the beta, even though my account is US, maybe the sim was the problem, I should have removed it and tried. I think the beta program is closed now too as well. I did read that someone sim locked their phone with one of the US firmwares. Be careful if you try, I used to U1 vs U firmware but either should work.
If you try and it you can join the beta I will flash again as well

Yes it's possible. I did it with my BELL S10. Just use modified ODIN (3.13.3).
Since you were able to switch it from. The 973w to 973u, were u able to root it then?? Cause I wanna get my 973w rooted soon, but havent found a way yet and how did your s10 work after switching it from 973w - 973u??

You still won't be able to root it. These models have Snapdragon processors & seem to be locked down pretty tight. Only the phones with Exynos processors can be rooted at this time.

Hopefully In the future the phone can be rooted with bootloader unlocked although i doubt it , but try to keep the hope
Actually, the Chinese varient with the Snapdragon processor can be rooted (as I had been wrong in mentioning that *any* Snapdragon processor phone could not be rooted). although, I doubt it will ever happen in the near future with any US Snapdragon model.

The last U.S. snapdragon model to be rooted was the S9. The U.S. S10 and up have too much security and will probably never be rooted.

Verizon note 9 for sale?

So I have been stalking swappa for almost 2 months now. Every person that puts a note9 up for sale, none have the right rootable os version. So I figured I'd ask here, anyone have a rootable Verizon note 9 for sale? Need it to be in good condition as it will be my dd. Please let me know if you do. It needs to have android version 8.1 or lower.

The us versions are not rootable to my understandings, too have the note 9 rooted you will have to purchase a non snapdragon one.

According to this the us variants can be rooted: https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s9-galaxy-note-9-snapdragon-root/amp/
Basically need 8.0 or 8.1 Oreo on there to root.
