Require lock button press to unlock phone with fingerprint - Honor 9 Lite Questions & Answers

I just bought an Honor 9 lite and was having fun with my first fingerprint sensor, then I saw the option to "unlock the phone using fingerprint when it is locked or with screen off".
Is there a way to only enable fingerprint unlocks if the screen is on?
I would prefer pressing the lock button and then unlock, to avoid unwanted unlocks while the phone is in my pocket

When there is something magnetic in your pocket the phone is activated by the magnet sensor.
When you carry the phone in the pocket with screen turned to the skin then the phone is activated by yourself, because the screen is capacitative.
Belt case ?

Turn the screen away from your body/skin.
The proximity sensor works when activated after dialing to turn the screen OFF.
Or turn ambient display off

Xposed*is a framework for mod's that change the behavior Android. Root needed and downloading xposed-modules.
Never tried it, because I prefer a system close to stock. Therefore I use the prerooted lite stock rom of Danvdh.

I personally use Sweep to wake (up) rather than double tap to wake. It seems more reliable and doesn't trigger by accident.

That's right. But it works well with 4 taps

This is my best suggestion. Turn the back of the phone towards your skin in your pocket. Absolutely the simplest solution.
Never had this happen nor should it happen. Ambient display is normally the cause and why most people turn it off. It is more likely that you are hitting the power button while it is in your pockets. Mainly to those dumb enough to keep it in their back pocket.

Fingerprint scanner too fast!!

I'm finding it quite difficult to turn on the screen of my XZ1C without unlocking the phone...
Sometimes I just want to look at the lock screen without the phone unlocking, but the fingerprint scanner reacts so quickly that the lock screen (along with any notifications) is gone before I've even read the time!!
Is there a way to set a delay (probably not) or set another button (vol? camera?) to wake up the screen without unlocking the phone? I'd rather not have to disable the fingerprint scanner, and I never had this issue with my Z5C.
Seriously?
People complaining about the fp-scanner being too fast nowadays?
As for solutions, you could always use a finger where you haven't stored the print.
Or use your fingernail to press the button.

That's what I'm doing - it's a bit awkward! On the Z5C there was just enough time to remove your finger before the phone unlocked so you could have a quick glance at the screen. It must use more battery to fully wake up the phone everytime the power button is pressed?
I guess "tap to wake" would have been another solution to my (admittedly small) problem.
Oh, come on now. Fast fingerprint scanner is a good thing. There shouldn't be such thing as too fast. I would simply "reserve" my middle fingers for checking the lock screen.
Even if I use the "wrong" finger, the lockscreen bounces to the left because it's tried reading the fingerprint which is also annoying when all I want to do is check the time and for any notifications!
a novel approach i just set up: when scanning your thumb, only scan the pad and not the tip. then you can use the pad to unlock and the tip to check the lock screen.
(doesn't fix the problem of the bounce tho)
Use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup
Just wave your hand over the proximity sensor and the screen will turn on but won't unlock the phone if you have a lock.
Don't enable the lock screen functionality though, it doesn't support fingerprint unlock.
Lol why don't u just use a another finger?

look on the Play Store for Power Button to Volume Button by TeliApp, the app is old but still works and will allow you to use the volume down button as a second screen on button. it reverts back to being a normal volume down button once the screen is on. no root required. (I would post a link but XDA won't let me because I'm a new user)

P10 how disable wake-up by home button

How to disable the home button when the screen is locked? The screen now activates when you touch the home button (finger reader) - later phone can be unlock by PIN or finger, but how to disable screen wake up by this butto?. I would like to block this possibility so that the screen wakes up only by pressing the on / off button.
Your P10 does this?
I tried it on my P10 a second ago. My phone only vibrates when I tap the homebutton with a finger or part of my skin which isn't getting recognized by the phone. But the screen stays of.
Which version are you on? I'm on VTR-L29C432B162
i have VTR-L29C432B151, and a wanne disable it, because it is very annoying.
Dude, you really don't understand how fingerprint scanner with its features works...
Workaround: just don't tap on that area

When you deactivate the fingerprint reader to unlock your device(settings/fingerprint/screen unlock), then when you tap on the reader, when the device is locked, the screen turns on.
I personally use fingerprint to unlock my device, but have another complain and that is, when i want to check my lock screen for missed calls/recieved messages i have to take the device to my hand and push the on/off button.
would be great to have double tap to wake function.

You misunderstand. I'm having this same grievance as it's so easy to knock the scanner when moving the phone that the next movement then swipes to unlock it and the next thing you know you're opening apps and tapping stuff.
I don't give two hoots about fingerprint scanners as they are inherently insecure so I will never use mine. I'd like the ability to disable it completely so it doesn't even act as a button.

You're using a password that you carry on your person at all times, is always visible, and can't be changed. If someone steals your phone they just need to grab your hand and put it on the reader to have full access.

Do you really think that someone would steal your phone and your hand just to unlock your device? Ok maybe if you are a bilionaire or presdent of the united states...
The same i can say about unlock pins or gestures ..they need just to put you under drugs and you will tell them the code.
Same as with iris scanner, they just need your phone and your eye .
Too paranoic in my opinion. There is way higher probability that you would die in car accident or airplane accident than someone stelas your phone and your hand . 99% of stolen phones are stolen beacuse of value of the device, not because someone would spend hours to get into your device.
But anyway it is your opinion ...

Indeed.
So, getting back on track, does anyone know a way to disable the fingerprint reader in its entirety? I suspect this may only be possible with a custom-ROM or at the very least root access.
Besides it makes no sense, I think there is no oficial way to completly deactivate the fingerprint reader.

How to unlock with fingerprint scanner from standby

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knows if the phone is in standby and the screen is off can you just touch the finger print scanner to turn on and unlock, or do you have to double tap and or hit the power button first? ! Also, if the AOD is on can you just touch the scanner to unlock? I figure AOD should let you and lift to wake would work. Just not sure if the screen is off if you need to go through an extra step to get the scanner to work, as I don't have my unit yet and can't test it all. Thx!
screen off, yes you can just touch it and it will unlock. no need to wake the screen.

Awesome! Thank God. As I had seen videos on YouTube that showed people hitting the power button first to initiate the screen on then touch the scanner and I was aggravated if that was the case lol :highfive:

Yeah I think they're just trying to fully demo. It works screen off, AOD mode, screen on... whichever way you want it. Since its not optical it doesn't need to light the screen

Question Phone unlocking in pocket

I often find that my phone is unlocked or pocket dialed in my pocket, occasionally feeling a little vibration when I guess it is trying to unlock.
I unlock with fingerprint usually. My trouser pockets clearly don't have my fingerprints pressing against the sensor.
I've turned on the "pocket mode" option in advanced settings but it still does it.
Is there any way I can fix this? I am not rooted and have locked bootloader.
Thanks

At least they are consistent
I'm using Pocket Lock from Play Store, I set it to lock my phone when it's upside down and the screen is getting turned on.
It's not perfect, but solves the above problem which annoyed me as well as you.
Edit: I've turned off the phone's own pocket mode, Pocket Lock alone is sufficient enough.

Big problem also for me, I've made like a thousand call or multiple WhatsApp forward...
I solved turning off face unlock. Just using the fingerprint or sequence
The most confusing thing here is how on earth does the phone accept the unlock while in pocket? When using my finger it rejects it often enough.. in my pocket my thigh has a higher success rate? I doubt it randomly would draw the right pattern so often.
So all a thief would have to do is put the phone in their pocket and it unlocks eventually!
Use a case/care when placing in pocket and place the back the phone against your skin, not the display.
What's really disturbing is when you find it has opened setup pages you don't even recognize
Has anybody tried Pocket Lock? ASUS' built-in pocket mode is very buggy, it would be more than enough to check the gyroscope if the phone is in mostly vertical position (upside down or vice versa), and when the proximity sensor shows almost 0 distance to something, the screen should stay off and the phone locked. That's what Pocket Lock provides a working solution for - I'm not the developer, so I'm not advertising it, but as somebody who had the same problem as you have in this subtopic, I bought the pro version and the "ghost unlocking" is now gone.

Thanks. And also to the previous poster about this app.
Once installed do you lose access to fingerprint unlock etc?

There's an alternative locking method to keep fingerprint unlocking, but seemingly it doesn't work under A12 - still, you can keep using the fingerprint reader until Pocket Lock has locked your device, which is better than call anybody from your pocket.
BTW, your pocket won't unlock your phone as stated in one of the previous posts, but an incoming call will turn your screen on, and if you're unlucky, on the virtual dial pad your pocket will enter numbers.
