H8216/h8276/h8266/h8296 - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

What is the difference between the Sony Xperia XZ2 H8216 / H8276 / H8266 / H8296 ?

H8216 - single sim, 4GB ram, NA/Europe markets
H8296 - dual sim, 6 GB ram plus additional LTE bands for Asian market
H8266/H8276 not yet available from what I can see.

H8266 is Dual SIM with 4 GB RAM.
H8276 is only unknown variant.

Probably a dumb question... I have the H8296 from HK. Sony are awful at updating the HK variants. For the XZ the Oreo update was 4 months after the rest of the world. People tell me to flash to another region (apparently Germany) to get better and quicker updates, is that possible? Does the differing RAM make this problematic?

@Phoomeister
There should be no problems. There is part of firmware (partitions.sin) which limits size of ROM memory if flashed from variant with less of it. However no file responsible for the RAM size. There may be a problem with bands, as I'm not sure if H8296 and H8266 has supoort for same ones. You may better not flash baseband - AMSS files.

@Phoomeister were you able to flash the device correctly using the H8266 fw? I am in the same spot as you are. Thanks in advance.

I didn't bother in the end, Sony HK updated mine relatively quickly so didn't think there was a need, but if their future updates slow down it's something I'll definitely look at; the Oreo update for my XZ was 5 months late.

Ok I see. I ended up using the german one for because of that matter.
The phone does recognize the 6gb RAM, although it hasn't used more than 3.2gb yet.
Anyhow, thanks for the reply and let's hope they solve the update situation.

my phone box says H8266 but after flashing android P beta the phone says H8216 in settings and on xperia companion?

Then you installed the single Sim firmware.
As example I installed the H8266 dual dim firmware on my H8296 dual Sim to get faster updates.
Now it is a H8266 in settings and companion.

Did that to my H8296 as well. The beta release notes detail this shortcoming on the DP2

There isn't

Mine also went from H8266 to H8216. The release notes does say dual SIM not supposed at this time.
Also I can't get LTE to work on Cricket in US. It is stuck with 4G. Any idea how to fix this on P?

I'm just realizing that. I switched from project fi to cricket. I used to get 50mbps on LTE and now I'm getting only 8mbps and was convinced it wasn't LTE. But now I see that's the catch with cheaper service providers.

Confirm H8296 does not support lte band 3 at least. Checked on 2 phones bought in different countries. I have tried to flash H8266, but still band 20 not supported.

Don't forgett the SOV37 and the 702SO.
They got also their own open source archives and software version.
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-c-0-385/
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-d-0-404/
There is also a special XZ2 Compact version
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-b-0-449/
And thew other versions mentioned in this thread (including the xz2 compact versions) are here
https://developer.sony.com/file/download/open-source-archive-for-51-1-a-4-265/
We got the A version
They got B, C and D.

Really? All the specs for H8296 say it supports the LTE Band 3. This is really confusing.

Xperia Z from Bell Canada (C6616)

Just picked up my Xperia Z from Bell - here's a little information on the device, as after searching for a while there doesn't seem to be much out there about this:
Model Number: C6616
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: 9x15A-ACEFWMAZQ-30110041-32
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-g6df7905-02328-g70ed36a
Build: 10.1.1.A.1.319
Customization Version: 1275-6311_R2A
Also, rather unfortunately, the bootloader cannot be unlocked (according to the Service info > Configuration page).
Can you tell us if the screen is better? I saw some videos on the Bell website and it did look better. I was gonna go check out the Bell store today but didn't have time lol

I don't have a lot to go by in terms of better than other Xperia Z models, but compared to my SGS3 it looks much better and is actually visible in direct sunlight.

Not yet - this is the first Sony device I've owned (used to Samsung devices and the various Nexus'), so I'm a little gun-shy regarding flashing things meant for different models.
Tried rooting it today and, as expected, it failed.
Use DooMLorD to root, I think it should be fine.
Would you be able to backup your rom to FTF file?
Here is the instruction to make ftf file of your rom.

The update made the screen look a lot better but that was with 253 version already and 4.2.2 made it even somewhat better again and camera too.

Tried Doomlord's without luck, but I didn't use the new method to flash the other kernel (was fairly unsure if I would soft-brick it). I'll follow that guide and post the resulting file, though.

I flashed its baseband but it didn't work unfortunately.
This Rom only has band 4 LTE also even though Bell says it has AWS and 700.
It couldn't pick up t-mo LTE too.

For any other Bell users who are new to Xperia devices and unsure of flashing, I successfully flashed this 4.2.2 stock firmware using Flashtool (left FOTA, BASEBAND, and UNKNOWN unchecked). I had to add the Bell APN settings, but everything works!
Additionally, I rooted using this guide, but when I got to step 11, I reflashed the kernel from the first firmware image I linked instead.
So if I get this one, unlock it and flash standard firmware, can it be used with Rogers and its LTE?

Rogers and Bell both use the same LTE bands, so it should be good with the network unlock. Switching firmware is really only required for rooting/getting 4.2.2 at this time.

So bell's firmware is standard or it's a custom one with bell's apps per-intalled (aka you have to wait for them to release a new version 2-3 weeks after everyone else gets it)?
Bell's firmware has their apps, and is subject to their release schedule, but will work with other carriers - it's just the network lock that prevents you from using another carrier. However, if you're looking to root, or don't want the extra Bell branding in your face, switching firmware is a valid option.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of bell's branding tbh, because all my services are with rogers. But what is difference between 6606 and 6616, do you know by any chance? thx

Never used the 6606, or any of the other models. From the looks of things, though, it's a difference in basebands and supported frequencies.
laslow, I flashed baseband off the ftf file you posted, there is only band 4 LTE, not 700 (band 17) as stated on Bell website.

I'm not running it anymore so I can't verify, but that was the firmware bundle on the phone, fresh from the store.

[Q] Euro Baseband for Xperia T LT30p

Hello Friends!!
I have a big problem with my device.
It's a Sony Xperia T( LT30p). The problem is that it does not have support for the band 900 UMTS. And I have problems of coverage in many zones where this band is for that my operator operates in H+.
My device works on GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS_BC1, UMTS_BC2, UMTS_BC4, UMTS_BC5, LTE_BC2, LTE_BC4, LTE_BC5 and LTE_BC17.
I need to have UMTS_BC8.
I do not understand how this device may have LTE support when is not a 4G device; and not works on UMTS_BC8 when Sony indicates that it works in the band 900 UMTS.
My firmware is the stock unbranded for Spain, 4.1.2.
My question is if I can solve this problem if i will flashing a correct euro baseband with flashtools. The problem is that I do not find any baseband in file .ftf for Xperia T; thing that if that there is in XDA is the whole compilation for the Xperia Arc S.
I would be very grateful to you if you will helping me to solve this problem.
Another point is that in the menu of selection of band only me there appears USA Band, when there should appear EURO Band.
A Greeting!!!
This is weird
In fact in my phone I have UMTS_BC8 and there are no LTE bands.
Your customization number 1268-8488 seems right (generic Spain), I can't believe your device is working with a wrong baseband which is the one for LT30a or LT30at.
So, just try to flash a complete new firmware with Flashtool.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648320
Pick an unbranded one for LT30p from any country and... anyway there's also your 1268-8488 (Unbranded Spain) to choose if you like

I thought that, that flashing new firmware the baseband be changed, but no.
I can change firmware but not the baseband.
I was flashed all tips of versions of Android, 4.0, 4.1, 4.3 (all stock) unbranded Spanish, Italian, European, Vodafone, Yoigo.
Even install it a zip archive Baseband by Recovery of Hybrid based stock, without any effect, I have been unable to modify the baseband of the device.
I bought it on Amazon. I imagine it would unlock bad seller
I think it would be either a software solution to fix the phone after a bad unlock or flash a euro baseband on .ftf with flashtools.

I'm thinking that you might actually have an LT30a/LT30at, which does not have the BC8 band and does have LTE support, and either you or the seller flashed the wrong FTF. I don't know if this is actually possible, but if it is the case, you should check under the battery if there is a label that actually shows which model you really have. It's the only thing that makes sense to me, because you're describing an LT30a/LT30at.

mmmm
Its possible.
Maybe they gave me pig in a poke
Or in this case, LT30AT instead of LT30P .
I have no time to open the device and look under the battery, but the sticker off the side.
The model is 12w39, if detachment, put another sticker under PM-0140-BV.
So I conclude that it is very possible that they sold Sony Xperia T LT30at (Sony Mint Amy).
Perfect, I can not use the 900 band HSPA + (BC 8) and nor LTE because in Spain is on the 1800 and 2600 BC 3 and BC 7.
WHILE 2100 can continue to use the UMTS settle me.
Curious that LT30p firmware is going great, really does not give me no type of error.
I will not be forced to claim, as I feel cheated, the box, the firmware and everything was the LT30p.
What a scam.
Thank you very much!.

12w39 is about when the device was made. It says: Year 2012 Week 39 (=september/october 2012)
Pull the same label inside the sim/sd-card door and tell me what's the SI number (abcd-efgh)
Look also at the side behind, it should say LT30p.
I think you can use your warranty anyways.

Official Firmware thread - All Regions (as available) - OXM for SM-G960F models

Hello there, here are links to firmware files for the Galaxy S9. This is a homepage for firmware of all models, and will be updated as more and more firmware become available.
Here are the download links:
SM-G960F (single SIM) -- Link
SM-G960F/DS (Dual-SIM) -- Link
Important note: As @murtaza02 mention in the S9+ thread, the OXM multi-CSC firmware is a good choice, so we are using that firmware for the SM-G950F model (Asia, Europe, Australia, etc.)
Check out his thread here for download instructions and to know more about OXM firmware, and why you should use this only if you have SM-G960F.

I'm confused
I'm coming from Europe where the only model of the the phone we use is "F" eg.sm-g955f, sm-g 965f..
I'm now in the us and I got a galaxy s9 sm-g965U1 ulocked online from the samsung store..
I then found out there is a sm-g965U... which is also unlock and unbranded for the USA... some one please tell me what difference is there between these two models... And If there is no difference why does it exist?
I'm also kinda confused with those versions of FW.
I've got US Galaxy S9 T-Mobile branded (960U), which I successfully "unlocked" right after purchase. I still had T-Mobile splash screen as well as their bloatware, but I could use my phone with any other US SIM. I didn't liked all that bloatware, so I just flashed 960U1 firmware, although I was not sure about all those "CSC" things (coming from HTC devices). Still can't find proper table with explanation of those CSC. Probably I've flashed XAR variant... At this moment my FW version (from FOTA check screen) says G960U1UEU1ARBG/G960U1OYM1ARGB/G960U1UEU1ARGB. Is it proper US unlocked version of FW or I've messed up something? I'm still using T-Mobile but I just want to get as stockish look as possible, without all carrier bloatware. Currently, WiFi calling works for me, but not video calling that was present on initial T-Mobile FW on my phone.
What is XAR in FW downloads? Why there are two T-Mobile 960U FW versions? Why there is also T-Mobile 960U1 FW?
Hey guys I note that OP states that if you have the S9 (G960F) then you should only use the OXM firmware, now I currently have that firmware on my phone but in the UK, EE does not allow 4g calling on that firmware.
Just curious if I'm missing something or is the OXM firmware the best apart from using EE and their 4g calling?
Thanks in advance
Dee
XXS1ARD1 is available for the G960F on the DBT (Germany) CSC.
OTA only. Will be available on SamFirm soon.
Good afternoon, first of all sorry for the bad English, I have a s9 sm-g960 sprint blocked, could I flash it with the unlocked sprint rom?
Doesn't Italy have the latest firmware? Supposedly fixing silences on calls.

I am trying to get a T-Mobile to Unlocked firmware without splash screens. There are U1 firmware with carriers listed. I am not sure which one to use, it is a little confusing.
I know I used XAA on my S8, is XAR the non-carrier version on s9?
Hi, I've bought an 960U in the USA, and looking to flash the Brazilian ROM, but the variant used here is the 9600. Can I Flash It?
Hello,
I am very new to all this. This is my first Android phone (Galaxy S9 SM-G960F) purchased from an ebay seller to use with a T-Mobile account. It is unlocked but it is missing the wifi calling feature and volte. I was hoping to flash it to the T-Mobile UI ROM in post 1 using Odin 3.13.1 but it keeps failing. I have been reading a lot of threads so my question is am I doing everything correctly or will that particular ROM not work on the G960F model? Thanks for any help

Asian H8296 updates in Europe

I use the Asian H8296 in Germany with a German provider.
On XperiCheck.Com I see that the firmware update A4 is only for customized hw and tk.
Not for customized DE like the H8266.
Does that mean that I won't get any updates, until I flash a H8266 firmware or use a Hongkong Sim card?
I only see the A4 firmware (8296) for CN on xpericheck. But to answer your question, no you don't need to flash another firmware.
Your phone will get the update whenever it is released for your firmware region, it doesn't matter where in the world you use it. So if your 8296 is on TW firmware, you will get it when Sony releases that one. If you were on CN firmware, your phone would have the A4 update available already.

I had the Honkong Version.
But I flashed now the German H8266 Version via XPeriFIrm and NewFlasher V13.
It deleted my entire phone (not the sdcard), but it was a good decision to get faster updates.
I got A4 and the entire 6GB ram are shown.
The complete OS is German and working perfectly.
Thanks for the info. Hmm, I might do the same then. I had the TW version (had to send it back because the speaker was defective), but the 8266 seems to get updates faster. My only concern was the ram. Does it ever show more than 4GB being used?
Is that the info you need?
PS
Don't install the cn china firmware.
It has no Google apps, but apps with Chinese names.
Nice, it looks good. Thanks! :highfive:
Haha, I had flashed the CN on the one I had too! I reflashed right away when I didn't see any Google apps.

Hi Martin, can you also tell us if, after flashing h8266 firmware, your VoLTE and WiFi Calling are working fine in your area? I am also from EU, and I would like to know this if possible.
Thanks for your feedback!

Since using the German Firmware, I can use VoLTE and Wifi Calling.
Getting a HD Symbol while calling and still having Internet while only in LTE.
The Asian Firmware didn't got the option to activate it.
My provider is O2 (Telefónica).

Thank you for this Martin! I wonder if I need to install Central European or Germany region firmware in order to have fully working VoLTE and WiFi Calling in my country (Romania). Also, I am curious if you actually see the benefits of the extra 2GB of Ram?
Cheers!

I don't know if the Romania firmware is optimized for your mobile network.
My average ram usage is 3.6GB
I assume, that it will consume more ram if you play a 3D game.
I also assume, that future android versions will consume more ram, so my phone is future proof.
I will use it or several years.

Hi, Martin. I also want to flash my Hongkong version as German H8266,
but I cannot find Oreo version yet, I can only find Pie version for German H8266 from Xperiafirm.
I have flashed this version, but it is stalled at accessing google service because I am in mainland China
Thus, I tried the French Oreo version because I found that at Xpericheck.com
For the Oreo, I can get into the system, but OTA to Pie is failed at the end of Stage 1 installation.
Do you know the reason, or could you share me the flashing image for German H8266 Oreo which can get OTA correctly?
Thank you very much.

You could flash the PIE version directly.
I don't know why the french firmware would refuse OTA.
Maybe it's your great firewall in china?
Only restricted google services are allowed in your country.

Thanks. In fact, I have flashed German Pie already, but the phone is stopped at first boot, because I cannot access Google directly. Even I choose skip, it still prompts that it cannot login into Google services. Thus, I have no idea, then I find French version still have Oreo firmware.

The dictatorship of china blocked it.
You would need a VPN in your Wifi device (router?).

Yes, I know the wall in China. My router cannot set a VPN,
in Oreo, if Google service cannot be accessed for a while, it can be skipped for next step.
Thus, I want to find a Oreo version to flash and OTA to Pie.

Accidentally bought SM-G9730 variant

Hi all! I bought the S10 from eBay not knowing it was the Chinese variant.
I have at&t, and it supports all but two of ATT's bands, so I'm fine there.
I just have one question: Will I be able to flash a stock ROM of a different variant through Odin? Like the US Snapdragon variant for example.
So.. No one knows? I wanna verify before I try to flash a ROM
No you will not really be able to do as you wish without substantial customization and editing of the files you want to flash.
What you are asking is as unlikely as being able to flash the TMO version with the AT&T software.. BUT.. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, unlike the other dual SIM variants the unit you purchased comes with a unlocked bootloader out of the box -- whereas all the other variations -- the bootloader is locked so you will be able to flash custom roms down the road which should cover you.
Samsung pay in a few other things those won't work as I understand it.
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 PM ----------
oh and I forgot this nugget of very important information
If you flash anything other than dual SIM variant software you will lose the dual-sim functionality.
Further, I'm not sure how that might affect your micro SD card slot since the hardware is a little different on that device.
Summary: i wouldn't recommend using anything other than dual SIM variant software.
I was wrong however, from like hardware to like hardware there is a way -- see this post. an example of single Sim to single-sim how to do it.

As others have said, do not do this or you may brick your phone. The model number and bootloader are different between US and non-US Snapdragon versions. I had tried it on my S8 and it won't boot.

It is only possible to flash other other SM-G9730 models, not 973U like the US models. As there is only one other firmware you can flash, I think you can flash the Hong Kong version as it is closer to the US version than the chinese version is (Chinese and Hong-Kong have the same version)
