Any phone released with Android 8.0 or later (this will have 8.1), has to support treble as standard.
No idea what updates will be like but I hear that the bootloader will be unlockable and phh plans to support the P20 pro from a treble ROM perspective.
No idea about kernel sources being released by Huawei and therefore how long it might take for twrp and/or custom kernels to be built.

It never lack updates. Even mate 10 has plenty of updates.
What it lack is, an easy way to modify something.
Example,
I havent jump to this phone yet, because there's no root method available yet.
And android without root equal to : too many pain in the *ss, lol

Excuse me for being a paranoid Android, but with Huawei's past reputation on updates ..
Would it be possible for somebody to do the adb check and paste the results back here please

It supports (checked on p20 pro c432 dual sim)

So the question is.
Has anyone successfully flashed a treble ROM on the P20 Pro?
Did it everything work?
How did you do it?
I've flashed several via twrp, flash system image.
None worked.
I've read that the twrp versions we have are incapable of wiping completely.
Not only that but if you've modified the phone, IE: root etc it won't work.
Obviously you need to be able to flash the system IMG but by what method is it going to be successful?

Had tried los, dotos and cosmic all booted fine. Haven't had time to play with these roms though. I like the dotos design but I can't set-up fingerprint.
I flashed the images via fastboot.

Project Treble note 8 ?

Is this even possible ?
Running s9 port.
Short answer: No.
It would require a partition change on your Note 8 which would completely wipe your device... I don't believe ANY OEM will do this as there would be too much of a hue and outcry from the regular - non XDA - users who suddenly lost everything in the update that gave them treble.
Also, most people wouldn't know what the heck you're talking about if you mentioned it so it is not to their economic advantage to give us treble on the Note 8.
I know many people who don't update to the latest and greatest simply because they don't know the difference...

The port is completely unrelated afaik to the actual development of aosp. You can always check the development forums, the progress of LOS15.x is slowly progressing.

it would be nice though if they could make it available to people who wants it though, as in you agree to a T&C disclaimer thing before you can download a file package type of arrangement.
Personally I won't bother with it as I am getting a note 9 anyway but it would be a nice thing for developers and people who wont get the 9 and I'm sure loads note 8 owners will not

Like said before, a OTA would wipe everyone's devices (and non-XDA people who may not know what Treble is may be fussy) but as time goes on and people look in, maybe in the future PT could happen for the 8 series.

No, the post is from December 12, 2017.
The writer has hoped, that Treble will be released with the Oreo-Update on Note8.
I now have the new firmware and there is no Treble

Dude, you don't know. At the very moment, OxygenOS beta adds OnePlus 5 and 5T support to Treble. Also, remember iOS 10.3.1 or 10.3 whatever, adds new filesystem to the OS. And, guess what, OTA update didn't even wiped the device.

Yes but there was an un-formatted partition on the 5 & 5T. This has been used by oneplus now for Treble support...
It had been used by devs to add unofficial Treble support .
Not sure if Samsung have done this...

In Terms Of Custom Roms & Kernels What Can We Expect ?

Is this influenced by Project Treble ?
You'll be able to run a stock rom via treble just like you can with the p10/mate10. That said, why would you want to? The camera will be straight trash on a custom rom.

It depends on what you take from this question:
1) Custom ROM based on EMUI, or
2) Custom ROam built from source.
If the P10 or Mate 10 series is anything to go by, there won't be many if any options of EMUI based customised ROMs. However, with the work that PHH is doing, he has stated earlier today (to a question of mine) that he will be looking to have his treble builds support the P20 Pro.
On Source built custom ROMs, you might loose things like the camera however there is also a potential that this could be ported over. Again, PHH has done some work to port over the Huawei camera to the Mate 10 etc but he also said he wouldn't be looking at this for the P20 Pro. Might be that we have to hope for someone else to try this task, I know I don't have the skill set for it.
Treble will definitely make it easier. However, it would still be helpful to get kernel sources released in a timely manner and encourage Devs to get this device / encourage Huawei to give devices to know quality developers.
In the meantime I would ask that people tweet or otherwise get in contact with Huawei to release kernel sources ASAP.

Expect nothing. Sell that crap and buy Nokia 3310. There is latest CM for it every day.
I'm not too concerned about a full custom ROM to be honest. Root is my main concern for minor tweaks and ad blocking etc

the treble pie roms can be installed on Nokia 1. Its bootable. the only problem is the RIL(incoming calls are not notified) on nokia 1 (being a a mediatek SoC)is buggy so cannot be used as a daily driver as of now. If calling can be made perfect i think pie can be used on nokia 1.

Cant say. Maybe yes in future once treble gsi becomes stable. But as of now gsi roms work on nokia 1.
I came looking for gsi because i face background app crashes on nokia 1, infact many ppl do. There is a discussion even on xda. Its like you open any app, put that in background and after few minutes it exits from memory and you get no notifications from that app.
Can i know your nokia 1 model and build number?

Thanks for creating the topic here. I also tried to create on here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-1/help/treble-experiment-t3836805 with not so much success...
I did not expect the Nokia 1 to be fully compatible with Treble. Other Nokia phones seems have the setting set to no. However, it seems in does (does that setting prevent to push manually GSI images, or simply means that the phone won't be updated by treble ?)
This is for me really interesting, as it means that the Nokia 1 should get alternative ROM support, soon or later. A Couple of links :

I would be really interested to see results of tests for Lineage, AOSP or other alternative ROMs GSI (even just for Oreo 8.1). The only one i found https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Nokia-1 is a bit incomplete (for example doesnt say wich GSI is used). That device would be amazing if for example lineage could run on it (small, cheap, changeable battery, and with lineage a gapps free android )

Well, I have tried LOS , RR oreo 8.1 GSI images and also the latest pie GSi images by phhusson. All of them boot and work as intended with mentioned bugs. But the one thing that stops from makin it a daily driver is incoming calling. The phone doesnt notifies you of incoming calls. So its a big no as of now.
This needs device specific mods. Maybe phhusson can check this in future builds if he is aware of exact cause.
To be honest, i tried gsi images just coz nokia 1 stock rom has app crashes. It doesnt keeps even a single app in background and makes it useless. And this issue is in some other models too. Its a bug from nokia side and users hv reported in nokia forums too. But nokia is deaf to budget phones. Every month a new update but same issue.

So guys, I bet everyone remembers the legendary HTC HD2 which ran a lot of android updates and other OS (IIRC, It came as Windows OOB),

Also, has anyone tried the GSI roms? I seem to get stuck on the boot screen.

Do incoming calls work?
I want to install GSI image on my Nokia 1 . My model is TA-1066 with build number 00WW_2_200_SP05. I don't care to get Android 8.1 Oreo version or 9 Pie. I want device to work good and currently on stock 9 Pie it has lot of bugs.
Which version of GSI by phhusson works flawlessly with incoming calls? Is it 8.1 v32?
Also does build number or model matters while installing GSI?

I want 2016+ phones, cheap and which i can root easily, I'm tired to find any.
Generally speaking I'd suggest to check models that are in BOTH Lineage and TWRP official support lists:
https://download.lineageos.org/ (click on menu)
https://twrp.me/Devices/
That way besides stock ROM (probably not difficult to root because above availability) you will always have the alternative ROM + Recovery.

Also, check which devices are the most popular on XDA forum; there's lots of old but great flagship devices like the OP3 that are still getting tons of attention and are available on the cheap.
The problem is that most of your cheaper phones are either built intentionally to be tough to root, or ppl who buy them just don't care enough to do the extra. I know there was a midrange Moto a few years back and I'm sure it is still getting indie development, but the name escapes me... Try googling "most easily rooted phones" and see what you get. Might just need to get secondhand/older/foreign if cost is an issue.
Edit: just noticed your objection to older phones. You do realize that if you are going to root your phone anyway, you are 20x better off with a flagship 2014 model that has a Qualcomm 8xx PROCESSOR (or even most 7 and 6 series) than an Intel or almost any Mediatek processor? You don't need to worry about the age of it if it's in good condition and there's active development. THAT'S how you'll save money IMO.

Cheap? I'd say Xiaomi A2 or the Poco F1. Xiaomi bootloader is locked from the factory, but they have an official tool called Mi Unlocker to easily unlock it.
In case of Mi A2, released in 2016, since it's an AndroidOne device, you can simply unlock it using fastboot. It also has LineageOS and TWRP official support. From factory it came with Oreo, then updated to Pie. And they will release Android 10 for it at the end of this month (https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-X...edge-towards-Android-10-update.447310.0.html)
I'm running Mi A2 with Havoc OS v2.8 based on Android Pie, rooted with Magisk 20.2, and EdXposed 0.4.5. The device pass SafetyNet and can install Netflix from the Play Store.
They released Mi A3 with AMOLED display. But it's 720p with a notch, a downgrade from the notchless 1080p LCD display of Mi A2. But it has 3 cameras instead of two, and 4000mah battery instead of 3000mah in Mi A2, and will receive official Android 11.
Which phones are currently easiest to unlock, root and install ROMs?

Is it possible to install two roms in the Xiaomi Mi A2?

TL;DR: I wanted to install an Android 9 Rom on my phone alongside the stock Android 10 Rom in order to use GLTools.
So, the question is basically on the title. But the reason that I want to install two Roms on my phone is GLTools. Since GLTools' developer didn't release an Android 10 compatible version of his app while it was under development, Thus can't use it, since my phone is on the latest firmware. Now, I mainly wanted to play Fortnite on my phone (Please don't judge me?). I'm open to other solutions tho, like any GLTools alternative compatible with Android 10. (Ps. Phone is rooted with Magisk)
AFAIK, Dual boot custom ROMs were possible on some devices but that was before introduction of SAR A/B Devices. While theoretically, newer devices have separate A/B partitions and hence could have separate ROMs I believe it is an issue of shared libraries/partitions being used by the device which might mess up things.
But then I am neither a developer nor a gamer so the entire theory could be wrong !

So, to be short, All I needed to do was install Havoc OS and now the game is installing. No idea why, but, It works!
