Is it possible to install two roms in the Xiaomi Mi A2? - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

TL;DR: I wanted to install an Android 9 Rom on my phone alongside the stock Android 10 Rom in order to use GLTools.
So, the question is basically on the title. But the reason that I want to install two Roms on my phone is GLTools. Since GLTools' developer didn't release an Android 10 compatible version of his app while it was under development, Thus can't use it, since my phone is on the latest firmware. Now, I mainly wanted to play Fortnite on my phone (Please don't judge me?). I'm open to other solutions tho, like any GLTools alternative compatible with Android 10. (Ps. Phone is rooted with Magisk)

AFAIK, Dual boot custom ROMs were possible on some devices but that was before introduction of SAR A/B Devices. While theoretically, newer devices have separate A/B partitions and hence could have separate ROMs I believe it is an issue of shared libraries/partitions being used by the device which might mess up things.
But then I am neither a developer nor a gamer so the entire theory could be wrong !

Any phone released with Android 8.0 or later (this will have 8.1), has to support treble as standard.
No idea what updates will be like but I hear that the bootloader will be unlockable and phh plans to support the P20 pro from a treble ROM perspective.
No idea about kernel sources being released by Huawei and therefore how long it might take for twrp and/or custom kernels to be built.

It never lack updates. Even mate 10 has plenty of updates.
What it lack is, an easy way to modify something.
Example,
I havent jump to this phone yet, because there's no root method available yet.
And android without root equal to : too many pain in the *ss, lol
Excuse me for being a paranoid Android, but with Huawei's past reputation on updates ..
Would it be possible for somebody to do the adb check and paste the results back here please

It supports (checked on p20 pro c432 dual sim)
So the question is.
Has anyone successfully flashed a treble ROM on the P20 Pro?
Did it everything work?
How did you do it?
I've flashed several via twrp, flash system image.
None worked.
I've read that the twrp versions we have are incapable of wiping completely.
Not only that but if you've modified the phone, IE: root etc it won't work.
Obviously you need to be able to flash the system IMG but by what method is it going to be successful?
Had tried los, dotos and cosmic all booted fine. Haven't had time to play with these roms though. I like the dotos design but I can't set-up fingerprint.
I flashed the images via fastboot.

What is treble and why is all the fuss about it?

Recently I saw that there appeared a new kind of roms which need a special recovery and, as I could find, have something to do with easier update of Android version. Also I have seen a project: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659 which claims to have one rom file that can be flashed on a impressing number of roms. I saw the first comment by author which has a method to know if a device has support for treble and it is refered to run "treble check" app from play store on official rom. The thing is that I experimented and installed treble rom (lineage OS) from redmi 4x thread and did the check if the device is supported (the screenshot is attached below) and saw that on this rom it is supported, in contrary to MIUI. The question is about this controversion: is this device supported or not? Can I flash these ROMs from the thread? Are treble ROMs really like a universal flashable file for multiple devices?
If you flash GSI (Generic System Image) it will work on our device. Yes Treble roms are universally flashable if GSI is used, with some minimal modification for device specific. So porting roms will easier, and less time consuming.
Anyone can correct me, if i 'm wrong.

Yes, but follow the instruction there. Our device is A-only device. Use the special recovery here for flashing. Or flash the lineageos 15.1 treble edition first just find in on our device forum.

I have seen that seamless updates require A and B partition. I want to know what I am loosing with this device by having only the A partition (what really is seamless update and how does it work)? P.S. sorry for being annoying.

As far as i know the seamlees update works this way:
In slot A you have installed any OS Example Android 8.1
In slot B there is a backup of the OS Om slot A
This mean you can install the ota of Android P (example) in one of the slots while you are on Facebook for example

Searching for a custom rom

I'm searching for some custom ROM for my Xiaomi mi 9 lite with good optimization and better functions than MIUI 12 have. So far I was thinking between Evolution X and Bliss ROM but I would like something more pixel-like. I know that there is the Pixel experience ROM but for this model of phone there is only fan version of it and from past, I don't have good experience installing unofficial ROMs, the same goes for LineageOS.
I would also like to use Netflix, mobile bank, and these things so functional safetynet would be big plus. I am willing to "hack" it through Magisk. I am also fine with installing google apps through sideloading them from open gapps.
Thanks for all help and tips.

Question Will this device ever get a Custom rom ? ( Not GSI, A proper custom rom )

Bought this device at its launch and since then I am waiting for some developer to build a custom ROM for it. Multiple GSI roms available and even the Xiaomi eu also available. But I want to flash some custom ROMs like pixel experience or evolution x . The main problem with GSI and xiaomi eu rom are that they need a computer to get updated. DEVELOPERS HELP !

Until there is a custom recovery that works with Android 12, a pc will be needed.
For AOSP roms the question has already been asked several times.

but why hasn't a custom recovery been released for 11T Pro for Android 12? (I own this phone) TWRP has already been released for phones more recent than this one. Plus, vili kernel source is already available on github.

Just for information which xiaomi android 12 newer than 11t pro have twrp?
TWRP is not a requirement for ROMs.
It also works without. But there is nobody who cooks anything.
I hope that the price in India will fall quickly. Because there are some good people in India who know how to cook.
There should be Android 11 custom rom development, there is basically no custom rom support except GSI for xiaomi now (recently released xiaomi devices)

I think there is only Paranoid Android that is not gsi atm, but it still does require pc to flash due to the fact that even official twrp doesn't support a12 encryption yet.
So yeah basically we also need to wait for twrp dev to make some progress too.

Blame xiaomi for not updating kernel source to android 12.
It's already been 8 months since the GitHub repo for Xiaomi kernel sources was updated.
Any way to downgrade to MIUI 12? There could be also A11 Development not necessarily A12.
Honestly if GSI is available for A12 I'll take it.
If there really is no custom ROM support for this phone, I just need to root it. Any way to root on MIUI 13? (Stock, Global)

Pull the boot.img from your current rom, patch it using Magisk, Use that patched Boot.img to boot off, go to Magisk and direct install it. You know... Just the usual
P.S. There are forums that explain this better but this forum isn't the place to explain how to root a phone.

Question Redmi 9T Differences

Hello,
I have a Redmi 9T (lime) device. But unfortunately no ROM has been made for lime. What happens if I install ROMs for Juice or Chime?
For example, it is stated as lime in this, but when I want to download it, chime appears. Is it okay?
Project Elixir
projectelixiros.com
Up.
Up.
There is no major differences.
1. For Poco - 1 camera less, may lead to instability of stock camera, not more, gcam anyway.
2. For any - no nfc/nfc, no problem on hardware without nfc, but won't work at all on roms built without nfc support.
Ok so I hardened my heart and installed elixer on my Redmi 9T(Lime) and it went pretty bad (luckily my phone survived).
1. The unofficial recoveries are not stable enough and I had a lot of trouble due to encryption
2. After messing around I was able to install the rom (have to try 2-3 different recoveries)
3. After successful installation the phone was stuck in a bootloop
4. I gave up at that time and just flashed the stock rom
So conclusion is that there might not be major difference on the surface but I think at firmware level there are difference
Ok forget about my previous comment I was an idiot..
So the bootloop was because of encryption and today I was able to flash elixer on my redmi 9T (LIME)
So back to your question whats the difference and that is none, I will explain why:
1. The phones Poco M3, Redmi power, redmi 9t lime, lemon, 4G, etc are same and are given a unified code name Juice or Chime depending on the firmware vendor used by the developer of the custom rom.
2. Chime codename custom roms are using OSS vendor which is opensource and is supported for a longer period of time but is not stable yet
3. Juice codename custom roms are using MIUI Stoch vendor firmware which is obviously developed by xiaomi and is very stable
you can flash any chime or juice rom in your phone as long as you follow the developers guide properly because there are very high chances that you will run into encryption issues because recoveries dont support androind 11 or up decryption.

As long as you dont lock the bootloader you can recover from most of the situations, you can still install the rom, encryption issue occurs when you dont follow the rom maintainers instructions while installing the rom, flashing the stock firmware will reset the process and you have to start again from step 1
I have an ignorant question. Been thinking about this since yesterday.
I know the NFC equipped R9T are region dependant, but just recently Google Wallet is now available in my region and also supporting NFC contactless payments with select banks. The R9T in my region are being sold without NFC. A global variant Redmi 9T for Malaysian market.
My silly question is, is it possible for us to obtain the NFC hardware or get it from a donor R9T phone that has it, and then install it in the phone and make it working? Like plug and play?
I assume it's very, very impossible... But assuming it cannot, why tho? Is there a permanent restriction hard-coded into the phone due to region dependant?
