google now - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Got the p20 pro today. First impressions are good. Although I have one problem which I had read about. Google now will not let me turn on voice activation (ok Google)
I say ok Google three times but then have no next button to proceed and therefore voice activation stays off.
I've seen other mention about maps being slow. Not used it for driving yet. But done a few searches without issue.
I have the dual SIM varient.

I have fixed this problem. By clearing Google app cache and then disabling and enabling the app. From research this is a common android problem not specific to Huawei nor p20 pro.

With my P20 Pro I have to set the device language to "English". When I switch back to "German", I can't use voice activation. I get a message like "There's a problem with your microphone. Please try again in a few seconds" (translated from German).

[Q] Google Voice

So here's my story. A couple of weeks back I had started to notice that my phone wasn't ringing when people were calling me. Through a bunch of troubleshooting found out that it seems to be my google voice account that is causing my calls to go directly to google voice. I also use google voice on my tablet as it is a lot nicer to do stuff on the bigger screen. When i looked under the settings found there was something about (Sorry this is weird) "dogfood" settings. When i clicked on it it said something about sending feedback. I backed out from there. (A little freaked out as to what that might do.) Did not have this "setting" on the phone. Needless to say I un-installed wiped the tablet. Did the same with the hero. Put new roms on both and I would be able to receive calls for a short period of time. Then after a couple of calls it would start to send calls to voicemail again and I wouldn't be able to make calls out. So finally took google voice off of both the tablet and phone and disabled google voice and now I can make and receive calls.
My problem is really like google voice and want to use it. Anyway around this? Part of the reason that I'm asking is that I see Matt uses google voice too and was wondering if anyone else had been having this problem. I don't know if there is any other app that works similarly if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
Sorry for the long post but its kinda weird and didn't wanna post "Google voice f-ed my phone" and then have to walk everyone through the troubleshooting I had already done.
Thanks.
OK this is going to sound stupid and quite obvious but..in the phone app> menu>more>settings>do not disturb. Is that off or on?
I have been using G-voice for a while now and I have never had any issues. But I do have that "dogfood" under menu on the phone app.
I remember checking on that a few different times because I remembered reading about it some time ago. I don't think that was it. It seems like someone was having trouble with that on the with the aosp/cm thread a long time ago. I was concerned with that dogfood thing but maybe it is nothing. just google having fun.
I will check on the settings thing and flash to DX and test some more.
Thanks for the info. Will let you know.

I have a good question... When you installed Google Voice at the setup screen did you hit Next at the first screen that mentions Sprint integration? This is most likely what is causing it sir. Try reinstalling GV. Then open it. When that prompt comes up again hit Skip this time. Then following the remaining instructions. It should work perfectly after this.
It sounds like an initial setup issue. I would reinstall the application again. I've been using GV without any issues.
Actually got it working sorry for not posting back. After formatting boot, system, etc. It started working correctly. Must have been something that wasn't getting erased during the normal wiping between roms.
Google Voice issues.
I too had similar problems and finally thought of going into my actual Google account and changing how Google voice handles my calls. Works ever since I did that.

I don't know how many times I had to re-install GV on my and my friends' phones before remembering that trying to integrate with Sprint's Visual Voicemail just doesn't work..

You can integrate, but you might need to go into the actual account (not the app) and make sure that it is set up not to ring to the phone and not the internet number (or whatever that option is). My issue, besides every text message going through GV, was that I couldn't make an international call. I had a credit but it would never go through AND I couldn't make a call without it using GV even when I told it not to. Maybe I should have tried to go into the account to check on that too? LOL I went back to just using GV as my voicemail.
They fubarred this whole integration. In theory it sounded good but update after update they still don't get it.

[Q] Moto Voice won't work on 2014 Moto X Verizon

I keep trying to use this app, but it constantly quits or stops responding on Moto X 2014!
I’ve even had verizon replace the phone!
After a factory reset, it tends to work for maybe a few hours, to a day, but then eventually stops working again. Even with no other apps installed on the phone besides the stock apps!
any ideas?

Odd you are having that problem. I am having a problem where its too sensitive. It picks up when i dont even say my phrase but someone else, even someone on TV, might say something similar and it comes alive. Thats pretty annoying.

You may want to try enabling Audio History, which will better train the feature through repeated use of voice commands.
It's in Settings> Language & Input> Voice Search.
Update to Initial
I've isolated the problem to contacts. If i sync my google contacts with the device, moto voice will constantly crash and eat battery / CPU. as soon as i delete the google account and re-sync without contacts, it works. any clue what the issue here might be?

I am having the exact same issue with a Moto X 2014 from AT&T. This is actually my second one. They both had the same problem. The Moto Voice recognition would stop working. I tried going into the Moto app. Three of the options work ( Assist, etc.) but the Voice option would regularly freeze up and not go into the options screen. Clearly some sort of bug, I will have to try disable the google contacts sync and see if that helps. If Motorola doesn't come up with a fix ASAP, I'm going to choose a different phone that isn't bug-ridden in it's most advertised feature!
Curious, did you keep back up and restore checked when you signed into your google account? Try removing your google account, when you sign back in, uncheck the first option to back up and restore phone settings. I'm wondering if a phone setting from a previous phone is causing the issue.
I can't speak for the OP, but in my case it's not caused by a previous phone setting as this is my first Android. iPhone before that.
For the OP: seeing as you've narrowed it down to the contacts causing the problem: perhaps exporting all your contacts, deleting them all than importing them back in might either fix it or provide some insight.
additional troubleshooting idea: create a new Google account and see if the problem reoccurs

Moto Voice Issues Solved
After reading several posts on various forums it seems that everyone that was having issues with Moto Voice was coming from another phone OS (mostly iphone, but blackberry too) and had imported contacts from their old phone.
I removed my google account from the Moto X, deleted all the imported contacts from google contacts, then added my google account back on the phone. Now everything works great, but I have to manually add all my contacts at google.com/contacts or on my phone. Perhaps there is another importation method that would work, but it's a shame that Motorola has such a significant bug that will discourage people from switching from other OS's.

Google assistant

Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with Google Assistant telling you she can't do something until the device is unlocked? This just happened this morning when I told Google to set and alarm after browsing the web. I got the above response. Tried a restart, did it again. Retrained voice.. still did it. I finally just went to apps and cleared all data and cache for Google app. That seems to have worked. Weird issue to have. Phone was unlocked whole time.

this isnt an issue, this is on purpose because someone cant take your phone and do random stuff with it.

a work-around for this might be setting up "trusted voice" . Google Now, settings, voice, ok google detection, switch on "trusted voice". Sorry if you've done this already.
Ahh I'm having Google assistant issues it always seem to disconnected whenever I need it.. It does not recognize okay Google or even when I press the Google widget I have to go to chrome and google things there and voice does not work there... But people can hear me normal when I make phone calls or send whats app... And i disabled and reinstalled good app already

Google voice recognition not working?

Hi,
I've been using P20 pro for a couple months now. Something I've not figured out how to do is make it so ok Google only activates when I say it. Several times when I'm watching a video regarding OK Google or a friend says "OK Google" my voice assistant activates. I was previously able to train my voice on my old Samsung. I've gone through the settings tried training it but still anyone can activate my Google assistant and it's getting a bit annoying. Is there any fix to this problem. I would really like to use my Google mini home as well.
THANK you!

For unlocking the device it recognizes only enrolled voice. After unlock it will detect any voice.

Google Voice Search/Google Assistant Huawei P30 Pro

So I had just about reached the decision to have Huawei replace my battery for £39 and rock the P30 Pro for another year or two rather than upgrade.
Unfortunately all of a sudden Google Voice Search/Voice assistant isn't responding/recognising my microphone .
This feature is very important to me...
The microphone works for calls, Voice notes, recorder etc.
I have tried factory resetting phone, Rolling back updates on Google app and reapplying updates, clearing cache, checked permissions. I have very restrictive settings for Google but nothing which I can see should stop the assistant/Voice Search working. I can't even retrain my voice as it's though Google can't hear me.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting? I really don't want to have to spend hundreds on a new phone when the Huawei still meets my needs.
Thanks in advance
i have had the same issue for a few months now. Mine will work from time to time. I even ordered replacement bottom mic/sim card tray. well i wasted money on that, mic works find, didn't replace . Hopefully we can find a solution to this issue, i really didn't wanna buy another phone.
