Samsung galaxy note 8 sensors not working - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello,
My Galaxy Note 8 GT-N950F sensors are not working. Proximity, heart rate, barometer, rotation, iris scanner and other sensors are not working.
Any HELP please !
Happened today, i saw some people got same issues since the new Android 8.0 updates.
ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Did you check sensors from test menu:
*#0*# (in phone/dialer)?

Yes already dialed. Nothing is working. Download CPU-Z too, nothing is working. Hard reset too. Same issues.
Any other solution?

Same thing happened to a friend on 7.1.1 with a 950F.
He had to claim warranty on it since we tried multiple firmware's, but nothing brought the sensors back.

Go to Samsung ASAP to get it fixed under warranty

I've claimed the warranty, still waiting for the phone
Will I lose all my stuff on the phone? Or will It be the same?

Chances are you won't get your exact phone back. But a refurbed one. Just use samsung backup app. Works pretty well. And of course factory reset afterwards.

I'm having the same issue with my device past few days (Exynos Chip)
My reply was here.

I haven't experienced it myself, but previous posts in the thread indicate a hardware problem... If you already flashed the latest stock firmware with full wipe and it's still not working, then it seems to confirm that hardware issue.

Can you find those posts you mentioned and link them here? If it's software related then flashing the latest stock firmware should help. Did you do a full wipe and used csc instead of home_csc in Odin (along with the other firmware files)?

i'm really sorry but can not link them because i saw so many websites and can't remember and yeah i flashed all files with odin but this also don't work any other solution and also saw a video on youtube about xiaomi device sensors stoped after software update

As some buddies stated before, take your device to claim warranty, that's it

I'm getting GPS errors lately, very very weak satellite signals even under 100% sky, I don't know if they are related. Ugh, so much for a $1000 phone

Echoing the responses of others. I would take your device to either the retailer or a Samsung Service Center. As this is probably a motherboard issue.

Facing same issue, all sensors not working. Will be going to care center tomorrow.

I had this problem after I had my phone led screen repaired (under warranty at samsung). Lucky I check everything after every repair.
They took the phone back and got it fixed in 5 minutes. Said the tech forgot to flash in some files.no idea what files but all they did was change the screen and battery.

Camera problem

I have a camera problem with my one, which stopped working and I think this is the same problem that appears in several threads. I tried several roms and apps and when I managed to keep the app without crashing, this is what the display is showing, and the camera captures. I wonder if this is software problem, or hardware. Also front camera works fine. Thanks a lot.

if your device is new and still has warranty i would suggest you to get a replacement. I see some purple tint and there's no solid solution for that yet.
your problem could be hardware issue for all i know.

Note 8 "The Iris Sensor not responding...": HELP

My Note 8 cannot use Iris scanning any more. I got the message "The Iris Sensor not responding..."
My question is "is it HARDWARE related or Software problem"
Because if it is hardware issue, I should prepare myself to see if I can do the exchange.
Thanks

Things to try to rule out software. First just restart the device. Check. Still broken? Shut down device, boot to recovery and wipe cache and then restart. If it still doesn't work try a factory reset. If a factory reset doesn't clear the problem then I would exchange. I personally would exchange regardless. That isn't expected behavior IMO. I would assume the device itself is faulty. Even if a factory reset corrects it, what's to say it won't happen again.

Impossible to diagnose without more info.
I have the same issue, none of the sensors work, i mean proximity, gps, auto brightness, and gyroscope don't work on my Galaxy note 8.
Does anybody know what should i do?
I also rebooted my phone.
When i am on Google maps, and turn the location sensor on, suddenly the phone finds the location, after that, the sensors doesn't recognize the location.
it also happens for auto brightness sensor, when i unlock the phone, it works, suddenly it stops working and doesn't change.
I tried *#0*# none of the sensors values are changing.
I don't know what the problem is? Is it about the software or the hardware?
I updated the phone, did factory reset, wiped all the data, but nothing's happened.

Yes it sounds like hardware. As long as your phone had been damaged or we you should be covered under warranty

Hi, did anyone figure the problem out? Bought mine 10 days ago only. Thank you. hardware or software?
If you have not been tinkering with the phone by means of flashing things, rooting, etc, then it is hardware related, go claim warranty ASAP!
Thank you. I'll look for the guarantee tomorrow!

Note 8 sensors not working

Hello there!
Well just like the title says, I have a Note 8, wich is almost like brand new, not even one drop to the ground, not a single scratch, and also no funny apps, just the basics for everyday.
Thing is out of nowhere, several sensors stopped working, no matter what (factory reset, hard reset, wipe cache, safe mode).
Fingerprint scanner: WORKS
Proximity sensor: DOESNT (calls never turn screen off)
Iris scanner: DOESNT
Auto bright: DOESNT
Auto rotate: DOESNT
Heart rate: turns on, but doesnt register your pulse
I've read a lot of people having this issue, some say it was right after a security patch OTA, other it's a faulty batch of motherboards, yet no definitive answer.
Do anyone knows if this can be fixed? It can't be a hardware problem since its like brand new, unless the update somehow fried something inside...
Hope I was clear enough about this, any ideas you have could help!
Thanks!
Did you perform HW test, USSD code *#0*# in phone dialer?
May be useful to report your phone model (Exynos - N950F or Snapdragon-N950U or other)

Yes I did. Everything is stuck at 0.
Oddly, today I tried the heart monitor again, and it registered almost 50%, and then says finger is not where it should be, not reading anymore...

All (almost) sensors stop working

Hi everyone,
Almost all sensors stoped working after few days on my brand new Pixel 5 :
Failing sensors :
- Proximity sensor
- Accelerometer
- Gyroscope
- Compas
And maybe others I don't know of...
Fingerprint & cameras are still working.
I've contacted Google support, and they advise me to clean my screen :-/
I'll try a factory reset today before asking for a replacement unit, but my hope is low...
Anyone facing the same issue ?
Any advise ?
Edit :
After a factory reset : same situation
Same here. Had phone for about ten days. All seemed to work. Then thinks went weird over several days. First thing I noticed when going to hang up a call I was no longer presented with phone dialler screen. During calls phone was also spontaneously switching to handsfree. I suspect this was wall tilt related. Then camera images were in incorrect orientation. Google photos not longer rotating images and so on. Installed a sensor app and it reported gyroscope as missing. Clean booted - no change. Factory Reset and still no change. Arranged for an exchange with Google. While waiting for that to pan out, after about a day the gyroscope has come back to life. Although presently reporting no compass. Doe the P5 have a compass?
Anyhow given it working again now I am wondering if some power saving activity is killing the Gyroscope? Waht was the out come with your sensor failure. Did they recover or did you need to exchange?

I tried a random app from the store : Sensor Test with my bad unit and it reported 0 sensor !
I've exchanged my P5 and now the same app reports 30 sensors.
While waiting for the exchange , mine never came back to life : can't rotate, screen stayed on during calls (and auto brightness not working), compass was not working in Maps...
Also on the faulty unit I noticed that the OTA update tooks ages (30 minutes or so, for a ~30MB update). On the new unit, the same uptate took just a normal reboot time.
Thankyou for the update.
While mine has a working gyroscope (at the moment) the proximity sensor is still borked and the screen stays on during calls. I just installed the Sensor Test app and it says I have 16 sensors!
30 for me
Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
30 sensors also for me.
Oh my god yes exactly this happened to my phone since yesterday. No auto rotation, no auto brightness, no tap2wake.
I have to send mine back, I hate it. Sensor app does not recognize a single sensor. Factory reset didn't help either
When rebooting like 10 times it changes between 0, 1 and 16 sensors.
I factory reset my phone again and that made it worse. Has gone from 16 to 0 on Sensors Test!
Has lost screen rotation again.

At this point, you should contact Google Support and ask for an exchange.
Like my old one, I doubt this is a software issue...
I hope my new one does not have this flaw.... but this definitely hurt my confidence in P5 devices....
Sounds like issue with corrupt persist partition caused by update gone wrong.

Indeed ! I didn't know about this.
But it seems that the solution is to root the device, and this void the warranty (Google asked me if it was rooted before the exchange).
Weird. It did not happen to mine right after an update, more like 20 days later. Btw Google did not ask me if I rooted the device, which I haven't, but I did unlock the Bootloader for a short period of time to use the android flash tool from Google.
I'm not very familiar with partitions on android but all I can say is that a newly flashed stock firmware from Google itself did not help me
All my sensors work according to that app - it shows 30 sensors every time I launch it - except the proximity sensor sometimes does not actually work right. I was noticing an issue because KinScreen would think my proximity sensor was covered and would turn the screen off because the proximity sensor looked to be covered when it was not, even though the app should have kept the screen on. I downloaded multiple sensor testing apps and the proximity sensor works most of the time but sometimes it does not. Weird. Not sure if I should exchange the phone, I got this with AT&T.

Took a couple of weeks, but I now have a replacement unit. 30 sensors showing and all working properly now. I took it for granted how reliant these devices are on having sensors working for basic things like the phone to work properly. Glad I found this thread and was able to get it sorted out. thanks for the help.
I had to get a replacement PIxel 5 through AT&T for the broken proximity sensor. This one works fine.
Couple of weeks?
I got a new device within 4 days where 3 days were for shipping
Just out of curiosity, am I the only one Google asked if I have rooted my device before sending it back ?
They asked me 5 questions for the warranty (I live in France/EU btw):
- Has the device been impacted, or is the screen damaged?
- Has the device come into contact with liquid?
- Has the device been in contact with a heat source?
- Has the device been rooted?
- Has the device been repaired by unauthorized personnel?

Question Front camera not working!

My front camera stopped working suddenly. Whenever I switch to the front cam in the camera app, it freezes. I tried changing various ROMs but the same result. Is my front camera busted? What is the likelihood of it being water damaged?

Try to flash stock ROM via PC and miflash.
If the front cam isn't working again in my opinion then hardware damaged.

This is a very big problem. Xiaomi fkd up big time. Users who updated their phones with miui 13 faced this issue. The service center guys are telling me it is a motherboard issue and asking 10k for the repair. Even though it is a faulty update that is the problem. Hundreds of users are facing this issue. I am thinking of registering a consumer complaint. Why should we pay for their mistake?

A lot of users (especially those manufactured in 2021) have this issue with front camera dying. I'm not entirely sure whether devices manufactured in 2022 have this issue fixed as far as I know, no one has reported having the front camera dead yet in those units but I think it is because of the device being new, we'll see.
According to users from Telegram, this happens because the thermal paste in the motherboard melted or disconnected. So heat plays a big factor with the front camera dying. Next symptoms, again according to users who reported, will cause the audio from the speakers to be lowered to the point where it is silent, next is screen dying and possibly bricking the phone.
Meaning, that even if you're on MIUI with a locked bootloader or on a Custom ROM, you won't be safe from the front camera dying. Thermal management has been a big issue with our device as even I can't prevent the phone from easily reaching 40°C. But, there are more reported cases of front camera dying on Custom ROM users or those that flash a different ROM frequently than those on Stock MIUI.
As for the fixes for this issue, only option is to go to the nearest Service Center and claim warranty (if applicable) or request for the motherboard to be fixed. Another option would be to go to a local repair shop and ask for a CPU Reballing of the motherboard.
For preventing this issue, I would say to never let the device get hot. I'd say at around 38-40°C would be the stopping point and let the device cool off. Following what Xiaomi's regulation on the recommended device temperature of 0-40°C found in safety thingy in About Phone (stock rom).

I have had the same issue with custom ROMs recently, but when I flashed the official ROM back onto my phone this morning, I got the camera functionality back. I then went through the process of flashing a custom ROM onto my phone and then the camera issue was back again.
I've been searching since last night on how to fix this? I had an Android 12 version of Evo-X on my Poco x3 NFC, and that worked fine, the issue only arising when I updated to the Android 13 version.

Imho it could be a missing camera driver in that A13 custom rom. (I had this too with RN8 and A10 custom).
You can check the drivers with the app "Device info HW" and see how many camera drivers are installed under "supported"
If you do this with stock and custom A13 rom and you count less camera drivers on the last one, that could be the reason.
In the picture you see 12 camera drivers inside CrDroid 7.16

I flashed the default MIUI back onto my phone last night and its currently working as normal again.
Disappointing because stock MIUI is awful.
