Haptic Feedback? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, now that some of you have the P20 Pro in your hands, whats the haptic feedback like in comparison to other phones such as the iPhone X?

Hi, i feel it soft. Softer than my previous S8.

When pressing finger print sensor or what ? I mean when exactly can you feel that haptic feedback

If you hold down the middle O button, you can feel some nice haptic feedback there. But over the rest of the phone its just seems standard vibration.
Its a bit of a shame as it seems to have the hardware capable of advanced haptic feedback, hold down the O and you can feel it pull then poing.
Seems like its software limited, I would if its possible to develop an app to utilize it better across the OS.

[Q] Responsiveness of buttons

Can someone please comment on the responsiveness, travel, click-y-ness, feedback and consistency of the physical buttons?
This might seem trivial, but this is one of the reasons I have never kept an HTC phone...the buttons are so gushy/squishy, whatever you wanna call it. I like to feel it click. Apple has nailed this, so has BB with the new Z10.
Any comments? Thanks!

The HTC One has only soft capacitative buttons, so you will get the vibration feedback and probably the strength of the feedback can be adjusted.
I am speaking about the physical buttons, I.e. power and volume buttons. I am not concerned about the capacitive ones.

The power button feels flush, responsive but I didn't really feel that I pressed it if that makes sense. Not as deep set as my Desire HD one is/has become.

Ya, makes sense, but is totally disappointing. It makes it difficult to lock it without intentionally looking and pressing. I used the 8x for a brief period and had that same experience, it was never easy to quickly lock it on the way to putting it in your pocket.
How about the volume rockers? Can you find them easily without looking? e.g. when adjusting the volume in your pocket.

Camera button is waaaay too soft. :( Is it just mine? Thinking about returning it..

Hello!
I am an (almost) happy owner of the XZ1 Compact.
I also have a Z3 Compact, and also tried Z5C because a friend has it, but both have a good shutter button.
The shutter/camera button on my XZ1 Compact is crazy soft. barely feel the 2 stages and the button "triggers" the action at a very low point.
The Z series had a very much firm/clicky touch to them(which I love).
The fact is that I cannot say mine is a completely defective unit, as it does not seem totally damaged, maybe this is the whole series feeling or is it bad luck? And, more importantly, cannot test it on another XZ1 Compact. There is none in the shops and I know no one who have it.
How is your experience with this and the overall phone?
My Z3 Compact is still working(struggling) to keep up and makes a decent job.
Not sure if to keep/return the XZ1 Compact though, so many concerns about it: no double tap to wake/sleep in the future, XZ3 having an big enough battery and being a good competitor, updates being dropped on this phone after the Android Pie, etc...
Any impressions/suggestion on this one is very welcomed.
Thank you!

I've owned a Z1c, Z3c and now XZ1c. I think my one critisium of the camera button in the past was that it was too hard. So I noticed that a lot of pictures would come out blurred when I'd been pressing the shutter button, because the stiffness of the button meant I ended up rocking the phone to be able to completely deperess it.
I think that the button is much improved on the XZ1c, not so stiff to press, less likely to cause blurr.

i would agree with this, it's about right for me. my z3 pics always blurred when i used the camera button, seems better on the xz1c.
very difficult to say whether it's an issue with your unit. it's definitely a subtle mechanism, but i have to press down reasonably hard to get to the second stage, it's certainly not something i could trigger by accident.
Mine is soft, too. I assumed it was to afford a half-press to engage autofocus. The clicky feel when doing a full press of the camera button feels nice, so it doesn't bother me.

GBoard vs Samsung keyboard...?

I actually prefer the Samsung keyboard but after updating to Pie there is this horrid gap at the bottom of the screen when using the Samsung keyboard which is not there on Gboard... how can Google's keyboard be better formatted than Samsung's own keyboard?? so frustrating... and the problem is that when you use Gboard the writing with SPen doesnt work properly, but geez I hate that massive gap at the bottom...and its there in any app.
Hi,
It was make that way on purpose, supposedly it was better for typing if you disable the nav bar for gestures.
But I share your feeling, I don't like it either.

Here's a fix, works perfectly (no more gap at the bottom) https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78736872&postcount=18
Yup, as was stated, it was an intentional design idea by Samsung after people complained of problems typing and accidentally activating the swipe gestures.

The samsung keyboard is the one that is better formatted. The space is intentional and for better handling while typing in portrait mode + provide a better swipe gestures experience. The landscape keyboard is also more comfortable to type on vs oreo. I type a lot on my phone, before I had a hand pain when typing extensively in portrait, right now I never had them - so I guess it works.
Sorry it is not working for you, but that does not mean it's a bad implementation from most of us that types a lot in portrait and who use only gestures to navigate.

It's not only that, it's also ergonomically for the hand as the fingers don't need to go too low. I frequently had hand pain and exhaustion from typing a lot, after the update (1m on it) I never had a single one - feels tons better. Otherwise at first I was also like - wtf samsung, whyyy, so ugly!!!! Then I used it and as I type a lot - not too long after I loved it and understood perfectly well what was the reasons and give them my "+" for that one.

I agree. I still use GBoard as I prefer it, but yes it does cause issues having to reach so low to type. I've always said that. With all the cries to reduce bezels, I've always said it makes typing more difficult. I think Samsung's decision to add the gap was perfect.
It's not poor formatting at all, it's just different so people think it's a mistake or a bug.

This, slim bezels maybe looks good, but defo is handicap with the handling. Typing is just one of the many problems with those bezels. When I typed in portrait on my previous phones - never had a single issue, but they had a lot bigger bottom bezel (HTC desire hd, one x, M8, s7 edge)... after I switched to the note I had problems exactly with that - typing in portrait, otherwise the phone is confy overall(compared to the s7e, both without a case/protector). The keyboard was just too low and the thumbs had to reach it when typing... right now this problem is mitigated big time with the added height of the keyboard and feels perfect. This is one of those things that I didn't know I need, hated at first, and actually right now I can't live without it on that phone.

I agree. I wish you could add a gap under the GBoard. You can make it floating, or change it to one hand operation and move it up, but that also makes it much smaller side to side. Samsung said they were working on adding the gap to 3rd party keyboards as well.
I'm staying on oreo (need call recording for work) but I do like Samsung's voice typing a whole lot better than googles..
Photo's[emoji2398] by Sully using SM-N960U or SM-870A
SwiftKey is my preferred keyboard to both of those. ?
Anyone have mic input on Samsung keyboard? I can't seem to find it.

I'm returning it

I'm taking my S10 back. I find texting difficult, my palm keeps touching the side and causes me to hit the return or a different key. I feel like I need to hold the phone with my other hand and very carefully tap each letter with a precise touch. I also find when viewing YouTube videos the camera hole is just in my view, so I can't view videos in full screen. The screen is nice though, colors are great. I don't use the fingerprint reader.
Have you tried switching accidental touch on in settings?
When watching vids I rotate the phone so the hole punch is in the bottom right corner
Yes, tried that.
Get the S10e. It'll alleviate some of your issues.

Install from Galaxy store, samsungs, edgeTouch.
It helps unwanted touches from the curved screen.
Helps a lot!!
Edgetouch may help accidental button push but not a 1/4" hole starring at me when watching videos. If only they center dropped the camera ilike the OnePlus 6t instead of placing it in the corner.
The main reason I have a strong dislike for the edge versions.
Thank you all for your feedbacks. I might exchange it for the 10e or swap to the OnePlus.

Try the 10e. It's the first phone that does pretty much what I've wanted a phone to do for a long time.
Bixby routines and bx actions make this phone amazing.
Can't wait to get a 1tb card when they release.

I sent back the S10 because of that miserable finger print lock and bought 10e instead. No complaints so far and I don't think that 10e compromises a lot when compared to S10/+. I have the 8/256 ver. which costs $300 less then I've had paid for the 8/512GB S10. Still, I have some concerns about Samsung abilities to maintain a steady stream of updates to make their phones a top performers(as the price tag suggests) vs the competition. I'm waiting right now for the “super night vision” as they call it, and I just compared some picks taken w/ OP6 wondering if Samsung can make it better as they should.
I know it's a new line, some bugs are to be expected, etc, etc, but the time is running, each month new phones are being fed into the busy, commercial pipeline.
I'm happy with my 10e for now and I'm hoping that Samsung won't get overwhelmed too much with spinning more and more phones out like the new A's and so on, and invest as much care to just released S10.
No, I wont be switching to OP7, maybe later in the year if the 7T gets ufs 3.0, I'll wait and see how will Samsung handle all the S10 needed improvements. The 10e is a great phone(*), I'm having a lot of fun w/ it.
(*) - conditionally or, the time will show.
These edge to edge screen is not good trend and is not practical solution..little bit bezel on sides are good to make phone easy to hold and provide strong grip and less slippery ..also it save u accidentally touching the screen..its funny how all android manufacturers blindly followed iphone x

Haptics/cheap screen?

Something I LOVED about previous Pixels was the screen and the haptics felt so smooth and soft. The Pixel 5 haptics feel like it's vibrating a plastic screen. Has anyone else noticed this? I know gorilla glass 6 was used instead of 5, so idk why this would be. I've played around with haptic settings and lowering it doesn't really seem to help. The haptics (on the keyboard especially) just don't feel good. Am I alone here?
The cavity behind the screen for the hidden earpiece lets screen taps and haptics feel hollow.

Wow, thanks for the insight. Any way to counteract this? A good case or something maybe?

LOL, move everything to the bottom so you'll tap less on the top. Seriously, I doubt you can since the speaker sits behind the screen. I suspect you'll eventually get mostly used to it, if not maybe try therapy. ?
Same here. The screen feels plastic. That with the hollowness of the phone add to the softer haptics to make it feel very mushy. Especially when typing. But as said, I'd probably not pay attention to it after a while.
