Press and hold on apps w/Oreo - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Since Oreo, pressing and holding on an app no longer has the shortcut to quickly do to app info. Does anyone know a solution to bring this back?

Yup that feature was removed from Oreo. You're not the first to complain about it. I've heard if you use a different launcher you might get it back but not sure exactly which ones as I haven't tried any myself.

Nova launcher has it. TouchWiz launcher sucks.

still using nova, so haven't noticed this....Nova still has it

Yes nova has it, it even has two styles to choose from

Note 2 Only Supports 4 Icons in Rows

Look at these official photos from cnet..... Pay particular attention to photos 2 and 15.... Although there are 5-icons in the dock at the bottom, the rest of the screen only has 4 app icons across each row.... Makes me glad I didn't wait to get the Note 2: http://m.cnet.com/photos/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-debuts-photos/10013559

That's launcher dependent only. Download another launcher and you'll be able to have 5 rows of icons again. But yeah, it's stupid they went back to the default 4 rows on the Note 2. Guess that's the price to pay for a True HD display...

Yea im not a fan of only 4 icon rows but like android rev said just run another launcher i will stick with nova prime

Yah but the extra RAM and better processor will make you want to get the note. And if the note 2 is as sexy as the S3...youre definitely gonna wish you waited for the Note 2.
And btw, you can always root and install a tweaked version of the launcher.

... Your complaing about rows of icons? Thats like complaining about a new car saying you dont like the song the radio is playing... Change it... your on xda man. Most people here tend to switch roms and kernals, changing a launcher or even less (a launcher setting) is a non issue

Lord.... I wasn't complaining about the Note 2..... I was merely pointing out the screen is probably too narrow to natively support 5-icon rows..... I totally understand we are of course, free to install various ROMs on our devices... Heck, I had an old HD2 that I tried out more ROMs on than I can remember.... But as my daily driver phone..... I really prefer not to void it's factory warranty

Settings ; Launcher Settings ; Screen preferences (different title depending on which launcher) ; Number of rows.
No warranty voiding required at least 5 free top launchers have this option in the play store. I cant wait for this phone in the us
From my X2 roaming the north
Although I have tried out several 3rd party launchers in the past, I've always found they slow down things a bit (unless you can natively disable the original launcher without rooting the device)... Otherwise you're running a launcher on top of another launcher

I guess i just root and take care of all those issues, but then again with 2gb of ram im betting you could handle 2 launchers if you for some reason dont just replace the old one.

[Q] How to use 2 home apps

Hi guys!
I'm currently using amazing ADW launcher EX and I just stumbled upon launcher 8 and I would like to use both. Is there any posibility to make- for an example - home button to switch between launching one and another launcher?
Sorry for my English.
If you dont set either as default app then i thibk every time you press home button it will ask which you want to use.

Yes but I was hoping that it could work the way I mentioned. Claystone launcher works this way for example. I was hoping for some third party app that could swtich home apps in a sec

Not sure whether this is what you search for, but "Home Switcher" by ymst (free in the Play store) lets you switch between your installed launchers.

[Q] I canned "my magazine" and now..

If I tap the home button buy accident whilst on the home screen, it crashed touch wiz home.
Any way to delete this action programming ?
I was delete touchwiz and use apex. No more s finder and s voice but google search and google now
There was an option when magazine is open to turn that off.

Re - enable My Magazine. Open it and go to settings. There's only two things, the later is what you want.

Lock screen shortcuts missing!!!

I got use to my lock screen shortcuts on S4 and now since they missing on S5 can anyone advice me something to replace them with?
I tried app called "galaxy s5 lockscreen" but it works poorly, functionality is limited and it drains battery a lot.
I used widgetlocker in the past to customize my lockscreen. It's a paid app.. and I bought it so long ago I don't remember how much lol..
If you want to go the free route, I believe there's a GoLocker also that's free
Check out "Galaxy S4 Lock Screen"

Same here. I installed this to compensate. You can put the shortcuts you came to love in the drop down notifications.

I'm going to try that S4 lock screen, though.

Is Ultra Power Saving mode safe after root?

I saw two people having issues and stuck at at&t screen. Has anybody else attempted it after root? Thanks in advance. Love my root. No issues yet.

Too scared to check.. I want to know also!

I did it. It is different looking as well. It will work just don't delete your system launcher like the others did. Once pressing the home button in this mode it shows you different stuff. To leave is different as well. I don't even use this ultra mode but root definitely changes it.
I tried ultra power saving mode also and my phone rebooted fine. And I am rooted.
Anyone having serious battery drain 4.4.2?

It's the launcher. Don't freeze or delete the launcher.

That's fine, just don't enable UPS mode. It apparently needs the stock Launcher in order to work properly and not lock up the phone on boot.
