SOLVED: Tried to install an IOS emoji theme and lost all emojis. - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi!
Stupid is as stupid does. I tried to install an IOS 11 emoji theme wich of course didn't work with the P20 pro and lost all my emojis.
Does anybody know if there is a theme for the P20 pro around wich includes the original emojis?
Best regards

Are you rooted? When I get a new phone, after rooting it, I always install this app to switch to iOS Emojis: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stevenschoen.emojiswitcher
Only works when rooted though. Works on my L09 just fine.

Thanks for answering.
My first phone without root:laugh:, company phone and kind of expensive so will try to manage without root this time.
I managed to install Oreo emojis with the Huawei Themes app, so it's working ok now. Seems that I lost a couple of emojis, but that's ok:good:.
So problem solved.

Not op, but I just looked into it because I found it interesting (never had a huwei before so I didn't know there's a design option for nonrooted devices).
Here's what I found:
Oreo Emojis:
https://plus.google.com/107871947138370739785/posts/7KbqejtyZqW Edit: Download seems to be down, maybe op can provide the link he's got his download from.
iOS:
https://www.themefoxx.com/2017/12/ios-11-emoji-theme-emui-devices.html
Download the .hwt files, copy them to /huawei/themes and apply in the themes app under the "own themes" category.

Hi, sorry for not posting the solution.
Here is how I solved it:
1. Download these apps from playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.deishelon.lab.huaweithememanager&hl=en_US
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mixapplications.themeeditor
2. In the app Themes Manager for Huawei / Honor EMUI, go to emojis and download the oreo emojis theme.
3. You have to merge the emojis with the original theme in "EMUI Theme Editor", but this app doesn't fint the stock themes on phone, so download original theme from here:
https://www.themefoxx.com/2018/03/download-huawei-p20-pro-themes-emui-devices.html
When downloaded, unpack and move your theme to this folder: /Huawei/Themes/ with ES file-explorer or your favorite file manager.
4. Open EMUI theme editor and pick the theme you downloaded, press next and choose fonts. Choose import from another theme and choose the oreo emoji theme. Choose next and save the merged theme. Choose it in the theme app on phone.
Now your emojis should be working again, and you can now choose any of the original themes again.
Hope this helps. This is written in a hurry so please excuse any typos...

Tor Martin

The Oreo emojis link download doesn't work, any mirror?

Got how to change it, problem is that it messed up all the font.

If you are rooted, no need to search for any hwts or apps. I expect you to be rooted via magisk. If using magisk, then straightaway go to Magisk Manager, downloads and search for a module (just type ios), you will get something ios emojis or something like that. Install and reboot. That should do the work.

I tried what you wrote (though only interested on getting the fonts back), but when using the oreo emoji theme all my apps start showing up strange emoji everywhere. Did it work for you on a P20 Pro ??

RRO Layers Theme Support in Marshmallow

Just a reminder that RRO/Layers themes work out of the box with marshmallow, assuming you are rooted. The official layers app does not seem to work for me, but you can head to /System/Vendor/ and manually create a folder called overlay within that folder. (You should end up with /system/vendor/overlay) You will need to mount /system with R/W access, which means you'll need something like root explorer.
From there, copy any RRO theme APKs into that directory and reboot. You will want to be careful though, incompatible APKs may cause that application to crash - and an incompatible SystemUI.apk will cause the phone to bootloop.
Update 11/6 - the beta version of the layers app works great. It should be in the play store soon, but you can sideload the APK from here : https://plus.google.com/117376207394302665227/posts/P5Z41eL57bz
Just as an example, I am running an RRO version of the CM12 theme coalfield on my new 6p

And here are the APK files if you want to give it a try: <Mod Edit - Link Removed> Just move the individual APK files to /system/vendor/overlay as mentioned in the first post. Also, I removed the settings.apk theme file as it causes the settings app to crash. Everything else seems to work great!
All credit to Kohlewrrk. (who has not had a problem with posting this version elsewhere) The theme can be downloaded for free from : <Mod Edit - Link Removed> .. If you want to support the designer, please purchase his paid CM12.1 theme.

I can't get it working :l
Step 1: Move the base.apk file of a RRO theme from /data/app/<themefolder> to /system/vendor/overlay
Step 2: Open "Layers" app and apply theme.
Step 3: Reboot.
?
The layers app is your problem, uninstall it. Just manually move the apk files to /system/vendor/overlay and reboot. No need to apply or install anything
Ahh I finally figured it out. I was trying to apply this SkyBlue Layers theme. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bitsykolayers.SkyBlue
When it's installed, all the files are contained in a single APK in data/app/<themefolder>.
I had to extract the contents of the APK, extract the contents of a .ZIP file within, and then copy those files to system/vendor/overlay.
Dang, I was trying to get layers to work through Layers Manager and gave up despite knowing Marshmallow had RRO support built in natively. Thanks for sharing!
I'm adding a nav bar layer apk into the overlay folder from the navigate app on the playstore, have extracted correctly from the zip but it still isn't applying, I'm rooted with busybox etc, are there certain permissions or something silly I'm missing? Any help appreciated, cheers
I set permissions just look at other files in system for correct permissions

I can't get this to work! I have tried all the instruction exactly. RRO location is correct, all apks extracted from the coal theme. Permissions set to 0644. What am I missing here?
I'm rooted but no busybox. Uninstalled Layers too
edit** basically my permissions were incorrect! Fixed!
mine also says not enough space.. but there's plenty in system partition?

Test version of Layer manager that solves the issue with creating vendor/overlay on 5X and 6P
You need to uninstall the playstore version and sideload it
Do not work yet with Styles, so don't go with Magpie/CommuteUI. I have got Inversion UI to work just fine on my 6P, see attachment. Post any bug/issue you have that's not reported yet on that gplus post.

Midnight is a good one(Hangout/G+ on it is style based so currently unsupported through layer manager). Download the Layer Showcase app from playstore for a easy way to find them. Should be enough to satisfy you until Layer devs work out that bug.
For those of you using dark themes what are you doing about the contacts text always being black? I'm currently using destiny dark theme and its a bit grey so its readable .
Maybe if we're lucky someone will edit the contacts.apk with the fix

[MODULE] Blobs Forever - Get the blob emoji back in Android 8.0!

Blobs Forever
If you have upgraded your Nexus or Pixel device to Android 8.0 and you are missing Google's blob emoji, then this module is for you. I was very disappointed when I found out that Google was getting rid of the blob emoji. At first, I thought I could get used to the new emoji, but I always miss the blobs. This simple module will replace your emoji with the blob emoji from Android 7.1.
I have tested it on my Google Pixel running Android 8.0, with Magisk 14.2 beta. It is not guaranteed to work on other devices, but please feel free to try it out. It does require at least Magisk 14.0. For Pixel devices, 14.2 is required.
To install this module, use Magisk Manager to install the attached zip file. I am planning to submit this module to the Magisk Manager module repo soon. I did find another module that is supposed to provide the Android 7.1 emoji, but it appears to be unmaintained, and one user has reported that it is not working on their Pixel running 8.0.
Let me know how it works for you!
Screenshot:
New emoji + blob emoji
I made a similar module a while back but never released it because I was unable to include the new emoji missing from the old notocoloremoji file. I had every set up but I was unable to compile a working tff file. If anyone is interested I can give it another try on a different computer.

Interesting. I didn't actually realize that there are new emoji that aren't in the font from Android 7.1. What tools were you using to extract/compile the ttf files?

Whoops, it looks like someone else had the same idea before me. I didn't see that one.
My module provides only the blobs, while the NotoColorEmoji Replacer module mixes the blobs with the new emoji from Oreo. Use whichever one fits your needs.
Works great on my 2013 Moto G. Running AOSPE 5.0 . Thanks!

Hi, so glad I stumbled on your post! I have a Google pixel XL. Can you please direct me step by step how to get the blob back? I would appreciate it soooo much! I'm not a developed by any means so I'm not as savvy as others on this forum, but I'm smart enough to go step by step if you'd be so kind to help me! I miss the blob emoji so bad and HATE these new emoji.
I googled magisk 14.2, downloaded it, phone said it couldn't open file. Came back to your post, downloaded zip, phone said couldn't open file. No app for magisk in Google play store.
What am I doing wrong? Please help me!!!!

To install Magisk you have a couple of options. But first of all I'd like to point out that the best way to get the proper installation files is from the release or beta threads here on xda. Googling, you'll never be sure what you find...
Easiest way to install Magisk is to simply flash the zip (stable or beta) in TWRP. Done.
If you don't have TWRP, you can install the Manager (you won't find it in the Play store, Google doesn't like it) and let it patch the stock boot image (extract it from a factory image) and then flash that to your device with fastboot.
There are installation instructions in the release thread and you might also find some info in the installation and troubleshooting guide.
If you've got questions about any of the above, first try searching through your device's forum, the Magisk forum and the rest of xda. Most beginner questions have been asked and answered many, many times.
Once you have Magisk up and running on your device, you just need to flash the zip from the OP in the Manager (Modules section, "+" button at the bottom) or in TWRP to get the blobs you want.
I'm still stuck!
Hello and thank you for the response! I've downloaded magisk and I've downloaded TWRP from the Google play store, yet it still won't open the zip file. So frustrating! Would it be crazy of we talked on the phone and u helped me lol... I'm serious! What am I doing wrong I can't figure out that image thing either.... The image I need to have beforehand? Ughh please help!

You need to start by doing a lot of reading. A lot... Before you start doing this stuff you need to know a little bit more about what you're doing.
First: You don't download TWRP from the Play store. It's a custom recovery that you install on your device to do a lot of fun stuff (flashing ROMs, custom kernels, root, mods, making backups, etc). More on TWRP here: https://twrp.me/
I'd start looking through the Pixel XL forums. There you're probably gonna be able to find some guides and beginners threads to start you on your way. The users there are gonna be able to provide a lot more help as well, since they often know the device pretty good.
And before you do anything, make sure you have a backup of any important data before you do anything. When learning, you will end up wiping your device a few times. Just make sure to read, read and then read some more before continuing...

It works fine with me on v16.0
Love this module, thank you so much.
What I like with this one better than the "Blobmoji" found in the Magisk download, is that it leaves all the old icons intact. They are so great
I cannot seem to get this module to work properly on my OnePlus 2, running Cosmic OS 3.1 Oreo, any advice?
Successfully changed my emoji to blobs on Mi Max 2. I'm using custom ROM, DotOS.
Thanks for making this! I would be sad if an upgrade to LineageOS 15.1 meant losing my beloved blobs.
Quick question though. Does this module support new emojis like ? that are present in the new Android emoji set but not present in the Nougat blob set? I am asking because someone sent me ? in a Hangouts message and it didn't display right on my phone with this module installed.
Is there a way to use the android 6.0 blob emojis on oreo, while the new ones can be used where blob 6.0 dont exist?

Here we go with a simple guide to make your own font module using my template attached here.
Steps:
1. Download Total Commander from play store (free). Or the apk from https://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm
2. Download my template module from here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/117VFMHzCtoZigOBHm_K8IyzSCF4o3CkL
3. Browse the template using total Commander in one pane. Don't unzip it, just browse the file as it is. Total Commander can do that easily. Browse to System/fonts
4. On the other pane of total Commander browse the fonts that you have prepared in advanced. You can use your favorite recovery flashable font pack, or your custom edited fonts. Rename them exactly as the screenshot. The name should match the font style.
Use fontfix from playstore to open a font and make sure of it's weight, i.e. bold, italic, conde etc.
This are the needed fonts for a complete module (according to my preferences)
5. Select all the fonts and copy them to the System/font folder that is opened on the other pane. Total CMD will pack them to the zip module.
6. Now on to the pane where your module is, go back to the base of your module and edit these two files:
config.sh (just the ui_print here)
module.prop (it's easier here as there are just a few lines)
Edit them by long pressing the files in total cmd and choose Unpack+Edit
In the template you will see xxx. Those are the places that you can edit.
See these example with Lato font:
Config.sh:
Module.prop:
After closing each file, the app will ask you if you want to save the edited file and repack it. Select yes.
Now go one level up in total cmd, rename your zip file as you like and your module is ready to use.
Let see if this works for you.
Let me know if you run into issues and/or something is not clear.
Enjoy!
Pro tip:
If you don't have all the font variants, you can use the closest one to that.
For example, if you miss the medium.ttf variant you can use a copy of the light.ttf one and rename it as xxxMedium.ttf and so on.

I see in the screenshot that your rom is using bold (or regular) fonts for lock screen clock.
You should use light fonts for that. If your room has lock screen clock custom font try to change the font to light instead of bold or regular...
All fonts here do not have the ? In lock screen.
Sensation font module uploaded. Link in OP.
39 modules reached and more to come!
3 new modules coming later today:
Three new font modules are up:
1. Barlow condensed
2. Roboto Light
3. Traveling Typewriter. (Don't underestimate the rustic charm!)
Enjoy them!

[iconPacks] Super Pack for Samsung Themestore

One Zip file 424 iconPacks inside for Samsung Themestore only
Link
http://www.mediafire.com/file/zc8hxxc8z4ilnla/424_iconPacks.zip/file
Trial Removers Link
http://www.mediafire.com/file/wa9jfg1fgms8wmy/Trial_Removers.zip/file
How to install iconpacks and have an unlimited trial
: leave themestore open in background install the iconpack two times in a row close themestore from history and open it again and check the icons section if it appears if you tried this many times and it still does not appear in themestore this happens mostly in Note devices than you must download Samsung theme center file from this link https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu.../samsung-themes-8-0-1-0-android-apk-download/
in marshmallow nougat or oreo you can use them without root just by disabling themes and themeservice with package disabler pro app or by force stoping themes or themeervice with killapps pro app
if you are in oneui and up you need only root to stop the time trial
Root: After you downloaded themecenter go and replace it with any root explorer to system privapp and find the ThemeCenter folder inside of that folder you find the ThemeCenter.apk and replace it with the new one set premissions of the file to 0644 reboot the device and try the install method again and this time it will appear in your themestore the same method works for Themes too. To stop the trial of themes or iconpacks to have an unlimited trial flash one of a (ThemeTrial patch) files that are inside the Trial removers.zip file flash them with twrp.
Next methot for stoping trial for rooted devices
After you apply the theme or iconpack With any root explorer go to (Data) (Overlays) (jsonfiles) (appiconjsonfiles) (trialson) and inside of that folder you find a .json file with your installed iconpacks names cut it go one time back and paste it to the (userjon) folder go again back and delete (preferences) folder reboot and done the same works for themes too but for themes you find those .json files to (data) (overlays) (jsonfiles) (trialson)
For Unrooted Devices method (Oreo and Nougat only ) inside the trial removers.zip you have the Package Disabler Pro open it wait until the license of the app will be confirmed you must be (connected to wifi for this) after that apply your iconpack or theme open Package Disabler and find these two apps ( Galaxy Themes and Galaxy Themes Service ) mark both of them and they will be disabled and trial will be stoped. You can enable them again wherever you want just by unchecking in Package Disabler. For more iconPacks update you can follow the iconPacks channel on Telegram by searching There Samsung iconpacks by DENIS
iwe lost much time building those iconPacks so if you like my work press thanks button :good: ENJOY

I extracted the ones you requested for you.
I changed phone and recently came from One UI 2.5 to One UI 4.1.
Since that, I can't make appearing icon packs after installing .apk ?
Does someone faced that issue ?

The app doesn't appear in the app drawer or in the themes section so that I can uninstall/delete. However, the phones detects it as an existing package.

Awesome realease! Everything working so far (Zenfone 8, Android 11 - ZenUI 8.0).
Maybe changing the behaviour of selecting ALL themes when choosing a Keyboard Pack.
Also, isn't there a flag to colorize the NavBar?

Thank you so much for this, @RKBD The themes work great, but I'm having trouble installing sounds.
I select a sound and tap install, but nothing happens after that I've tried rebooting, checking storage permissions, clearing cache etc. but no luck. I'm on OnePlus 8T running OOS 11.0.8.13.
Thanks again!

I appreciate the quick response! I've read that OxygenOS is closer to AOSP than most OEM roms, so perhaps it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to get working. I would be happy to help in any way I can!

It was closer to aosp only in Marshmallow days OOS 3.1.8 was the last "aosp" version, later it was just marketing trick imo.
We will try to add support for more but it will take some time. For now we only support AOSP based roms.
