USB-C to 3.5mm jack problem - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello, I got my P20 Pro 2 days ago. So, here's my problem. I got a pair of HyperX Cloud II and I want to use them with the phone. When I plug them with the included dongle, the headset icon shows for a second then disappears from the notifications bar. I should mention the fact that I can use the included earphones and some other casual earphones. The interesting fact is that I can use my Cloud II headset without any problem(other than the fact that the volume is quite low) on my mate's Xiaomi Mi 6 with the same dongle. What do you think, is there anything I can do about it, or should I go wireless once and for all?

go wireless if you have the budget, for me i still prefer wired due to i'm too lazy to charge it, i've used the dongle with my MI in-ear pro, and so far it works as intended

I found the headset wasn't always detected and I had to add a setting in developer settings
I have 'Disable USB Audio Routing' set to off and 'Always prompt when connecting to USB' set to off.

Turns out you can use this headset with the phone, but only if you plug in the microphone, and that's a huge problem for me, as I used to casually wear them wherever I'd go. Since I bought the phone, I have switched to some in-ear headphones and I learned to live with this.

Will it be the same with all adapters?

Think other adapters will work with the hx cloud (no mic)?
Cheers

Solution
Hello everybody
I have the same problem with my hyperX cloud 2. To make it works you only have to plug the microphone in headset and after that plug it in the phone.
If you plug out the mic, headset will not be recognized again.
Hope it will be helpful for you. Cya

I have tried with adapters from: Mi 6, Pixel 2, U11. It has to do with the OS, as a matter of fact, they worked just fine without the mic plugged in for the other phones.

Clarification

But without the mic, with the other (not stock huawei) adapters plugged in to the p20 pro, it still didn't work?
Just making sure it's not the adapter.
Thanks

Nope, the P20 Pro wouldn't detect the headset.

P20 Pro does not detect my headset or dongle
I have this problem and until now I cant find a solution. Phone is charging with any charger though and it just happened all of a sudden. I already tried doing a hard reset but no good. I am using the Europe version. Single Sim GPU Turbo updated.

Can confirm plugging the mic into the headset solves the issue.

Same headset here. If you don't want to use them whit the mic in, use Lesser Audioswitch app. You can choose the audio output source with the app.
Work for me.
Also, don't forget to manually switch back to speaker after you unplug your headset.

Has anybody discovered a fix for this yet where you don't have to plug in the mic? I just got a P20 pro and it is disappointing that I am unable to use my headset with it.

HUawei P20 Pro not able to detect headphones?
I've been using Apple headphones connected to the Huawei USB-C adapter on my Huawei P20 Pro....it was working fine for at least 5 months.
But last week when I plug in my headphones the icon shows up for a second, then disconnects in a few seconds. Now it's a consistent problem.
Has this happened to any of you? I don't know if it's the adapter or my phone...
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Hello enable dev options / tap 5x in About phone-Built number
Than in dev options enable Always prompt when connecting to USB.
Hope this helps I got mine working

Thanks for your response. this is very strange probelm, two month before did not appear this problem, but in these current days.
Maybe it is the problem of the system version of Xiaomi note pro, if I can solve this, I will let you know.
Interesting. I just got my Note Pro so didn't get to use the car Bluetooth receiver a lot yet but so far it's been working fine, playing several times for more than an hour without disruption. Maybe it's one of those extensive power-saving settings that are responsible? Or the "Clean Master" that is set to kick in after 30 mins since the screen was turned off by default? I was using Google Maps for navigation while also playing music in the car, so the screen was on all the time, perhaps that would explain why it didn't happen to me?
What's your ROM version, mine works flawless.
Earlier today I was using the car Bluetooth receiver with the phone in my pocket on battery power - no problems whatsoever (5.12.31 Developer ROM). I'd try with another phone first, maybe it's some sort of interference or a problem with the receiver after all?
Is that an aftermarket Bluetooth receiver plugged into the lighter socket? They're not famous for their reliability, and with time it the socket parts themselves can become loose causing intermittent power failures. Or does it always stop working after the same amount of time passes? Maybe you have some battery-saving app or settings that switches it off then.

Bluetooth is not working properly!

I connected my Huawei bluetooth headphone with my P20 pro and than tried to listen music but it interupts every 5 secs! I use the same headphone with my laptop and other mobile and it works perfectly! What could be the problem of the P20 pro? Not transmiting bluetooth signal properly to the headphone or what?

I use and have tested my P20 Pro with tons of Bluetooth devices, headphones, speakers,my car and all work fine. I’m using AirPods as I reply to this , no issues. Check out my audio review of the P20 Pro on my website or YouTube channel.
Tried with my pioneer 80prs, with p88rs2, some ford sync 3 models, 2 wireless speaker (anker soundcore 2 and JBL), also with 2 echoes from amazon.
All work fine, no problems with bluetooth connection or disconnects.

I having the same region and model as you. I never try connecting to car so I don't know but other than that everything working fine for me.
Not sure if it's related but I had a problem with several Bluetooth devices (Car, Garmin Watch) suffering connection issues and it was down to a battery saving setting.
Settings > Battery > App Launch - Find the apps you need to connect to your Bluetooth device and set them to manual and make sure they are set to run in the background.

Yeah my JBL headset skips all the time on my p20 pro. It's unusable. Really annoying. Can't really find a fix either.

USB Audio out?

Hi guys, I've noticed that when I connect my DAC to the type-c port on phone there's no audio.
Is there no sound routing through this interface?
Can it be enabled?
Thanks

Yes I did. We should contact Sony support, it's a small issue, an update will fix it easely.

I've tested only with Sony DAC from my Xperia XZ2. Maybe that one isn't compatible.
Maybe the Sony is passive, in that it passes through audio from the phones amp. The Meizu is active, it has its own DAC and Amp built in. Just a wild guess. Maybe the Xperia 1 II does not pass on audio from its built-in amp through the usb connection
USB-C audio works fine with the cable from my old Pixel 2XL. No settings needed.
I've tested using a Hidiz Sonata USB device and the USB audio player pro app and it'w working fine here.
XD05 Plus not connecting.
Doesn't seem to work with Xduoo XD05 Plus
The volume/power from the phone is barely okay for my IEMs, but it can't drive any of my headphones.
This was supposed to be an upgrade from my LGV30 (works fine with XD05) , unfortunately it's rather looking like I should have gone for a V50 or V60 instead.
I have checked in the developer options and it seems like USB Audio Routing is on by default.
Any recommendations to get it working would be appreciated.
I have just tested with my Dragonfly Black and that seems okay. At least it has sufficient power to drive most of my headphones to a reasonable volume. Still very keen to get it working with the Xduoo if I could though.

Is P20 Pro (or Huawei phones in general) only compatible with Huawei Type-c headsets?

I have a P20 Pro [CLT-AL00 build 10.0.0.159(C675E4R1P1)]. I tried using my brother's AKG type-c headset with it, which he got bundled with Samsung Galaxy S20. The AKG headset works fine with my P20 Pro. Music, videos, streaming, voice recording everything works fine. Except calling. It just doesn't work with calls. No sound in speaker, no voice going through mic. Is it deliberately done by Huawei? Could there be any workaround for this? I don't have any other type-c headset to check. Neither have any other phone to check the headset. Please someone shed some light on this issue.
I actually used the exact same setup (P20 Pro + AKG Type-C Samsung headphones from Note 10) and it worked fine for both music and calls. Although my phone is CLT-L29 C432.
EMUI does complain that those are not original Huawei headphones, but everything worked without any issues.

Good that you asked. It looks like they messed it up with EMUI 10. I got the OTA ~a week ago and didn't get to use the headphones for a call since then. Of course they don't work.
Tried with Huawei original Type-C and with 3.5mm+Type-C-to-3.5mm adapter - both worked, but not the Type-C AKG  ...
I have the 10.0.0.161 now, it was 9.1.0.387 before and worked.

Question Dual audio out of sync. Does anybody use this feature?

Like the title says. Today I tried to connect two Bluetooth speakers in the same time (dual audio). They are out of sync. Bad. Does anybody knows a solution for this?
I know it's not a specific s21U problem, but still, it's a Samsung problem.
Please and thank you.

Hi.
I often use this feature routinely to watch Netflix and also locally stored videos on the phone. I use the Galaxy Buds live while my wife uses a pair of Galaxy Buds+. Dual audio works perfectly without any lag or sync issues. It's one of the things I love about both the phone as well as my Samsung Tab S7.
I should mention though, that all 3 devices mentioned here are BT 5.0 compatible (as well as made by the same manufacturer - maybe that makes a difference?).
When I use speakers with older BT hardware (eg. my Anker Soundcore or House of Marley Liberate), i do notice the audio going out of sync sometimes, even when used without dual audio.
However, I've never tried dual audio on loudspeakers, only on the earphones.
I have one Bose and one LG speaker. Maybe that's the problem. Thanks.

Hmmm. Do you have two 5.0 BT speakers you could try out?
Unfortunately no. No big deal. I was just curious how they sound together. You can't get a stereo efect with dual audio anyway. Thanks for your help.
I'll give you my experience with the topic since my S9+ and same on the s21u.
If you connect 2 different brands of speakers, chances are they will go out of sync fast!
But if you use 2 speakers of the same brand they will likely run in sync for much longer, and when they start going out of it, you can just disable one and then the other trough the media center thing, and they start being synced again. Takes 3 seconds and can work from 20 mins to an hour.
In my case I use 2 Marshalls of 2 different generations and different BT versions. They last at least 20 mins before I have to reset the BT stream. Worth it.
Marshall Kilburn and Marshall Stockwell 2.
