Oreo CRD7 still facing battery drain? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I updated a a week ago and I swear after reading different threads and changing different values my battery seems to drain pretty fast. Not sure what to do anymore since I can't/don't want to downgrade, anyone tried something that made a major impact in battery life?

Anyone??

Changing different values ?
Then tell what exactly you did, so that someone trying to help you doesn't have to guess what you did or didn't.
This battery draining can be quite hard to eliminate. That's why there are already 2 million threads out there regarding this.
When i upgraded via ota from N to O i factory reseted and battery is better than on N.

I might have to reset or odin to the new CRD7 then

Battery drain is still terrible.
I tried factory reset, and whitout any app installed, I've made the test, I've lost 15% battery by night, in plane mode.
After a few days, still the same.
I don't know what happened but Samsung did something really wrong.

Did you have GPS, NFC, sync, and/or AOD enabled? I know airplane mode cuts off some of that, but just trying to get more detail on your general settings. I tamed some apps using the built-in power monitor, and disabled gps/nfc/aod, etc., and even with sync on i get between 0.7%-1% per hour drain overnight with auto-brightness generally at about 35%.

GPS on battery saving, NFC off, sync on, AOD off.
That's not a good news.

Try with GPS off and compare results. Might help narrow down at least part of the excess drain.

You could always stick your phone in power saving mode and see if that helps with drain. More of a bandaid fix than anything else but could help.

New ICS UK official release battery drain

Manually upgraded over stock non rootable CarPhone Warehouse GB rom using PC Odin.
Im getting very bad batrery drain. On the stock GB rom my phone would easily last two days with moderate use. Now with the ICS rom its draining pretty fast. I took it off the charger approximately 1.5 hours ago and with little to no use Im already at 90%. Same stock settings and same apps. Only difference is I am now using Apex Launcher.
I noticed wifi constantly on even during deep sleep but i have now configured it to only be on while plugged in.
Ive pulled he battery out for a few minutes and that hasnt helped. One last thing im going to try is revert back to GB and then wipe, clear cache and upgrade again...
Any advice/help would be appreciated..

I´ve had the same wifi problem, german stock ICS though, weird enought it seems to happen just with my home´s router. I´ve checked in other places and all was fine. A couple of users here changed their routers seemed to solve the issue. See if this is of any help....

Yeah, i updated to the lpy ROM when it was released and found the lack of deep sleep issue causing a problem. The above fix sorted it and I've had no problems since, performance has been noticeably better and battery life has been just as good, if not slightly better, than under ginger bread

Takes longer to analyse bro.
In those 24 min abnormal battery drain?
Best to check battery percentages.
Next to these two apps you can check badassmonitor or equavalent, they have also good measuring for actual battery usage per app.
Analysing sucks thought, totally not user friendly.

I could be wrong but it seems as if my wifi is still constantly active...battery drain is pretty bad...i think im going to revert back to GB, perform a full wipe and cache cleane and re install...
I did an "factory data reset" before and straight after i upgraded to the official UK ICS.
I did read if you use the alarm clock, it keeps your phone awake, even after you disable it, other apps most likely do the same.
Below is a picture over night, I always manually enable/disable wifi/bluetooth/gps as have yet to find an app that works correctly.
John.
Yeah tipically you would be looking for the following:
If your device goes into deepsleep at all. (on battery that is)
You can check this with cpu spy.
If it doesnt check the kernel wakeloks (high level) and the partial wakeloks (zoomed into detail level, best level for troubleshooting).
Anything there that runs often and long is probably causing the deepsleep insomnia. I wish Android would be better in able to determine what really influences your phones battery.
Next to this, some apps you can change synch settings (within apps itself, e.g. facebook etc) Thats just a typical change. every sync uses energy, and wakes up device.
Another possible check is the power on of with airplane mode.
Another tip is unchecking the sounds when touching touchscreen (a bug from the old days of android, and they never fixed) this is a major wakelock causer and by default turned on.
I usually get 4~5 hours nonstop onscreen time after tweaking it (without setting to much stuff of, otherwise I could have gotten a normal phone lmao)
after factory reset and data wipe on your galaxy note please calibrate the battery both ways...horizontal and gyroscope.
This will definitely help your phone better monitor the battery and bring it to normal status..

I tried out the steps mentioned in above link and I think its working for me.
After upgrading my note to UK ICS release the battery is drainig like anything.
Its like 1% every minute .
After applying steps mentioned in the url its not draining that much. MAy after some more recharge cycles it will be more stable.

[Q] battery drain - can't identifiy despite bbs

hey guys,
i have a problem with my i8190 since i've bought it... the os is draining battery and i'm loosing about 20% battery over night...
i've tried several things:
installed newer official versions from samsung
deactivated nearly every app
calibrated battery
tried benzrom
tried juicedefender
but still no success.
can you identify something in my bbs??
thx in advance
I have the same problem, i had a full charge at night, then i woke up and the phone had 50 % battery, GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi were off and it drained half my battery, also installed CPU spy, and i notice that my phone is not going into deepsleep, i only have 5 hours of deepsleep and dont know when that was, i have the latest firmware, anyone else having this issue?
It's normal for this phone. Put the phone in airplane mode at night helps me with battery drain, just 2% juice gone.

install adaway
should decrease the battery drain and free up some memory in the process
Well for mine it was an app called Jango, for some reason this app after quitting it wouldn't let the phone go to deep sleep, removed the app and now its going to deep sleep.
Use JuiceDefender or or try to change your brightness level.
Please reply to my better-battery-stats...
I has nothing todo with screen brightness
thanks for the tip with adaway... i'm already using it... but no success
@kicker63: this can't be, when i see people having the s3 mini with up to 4 days usage

Your battery might be defective i guess, if deep sleep is that long and you're losing battery, i guess u have to blame the battery
I don't believe people get upto 4 days usage, if they do they hardly use the phone. Most people on here say about 1 days usage is common. Screen brightness on full will drain your battery more quickly.

It's a long shot, but I also experienced a lot of problems using Viber.. JuiceDefender etc wouldn't solve it, betterbatterystats wouldn't detect it, ...
Just noticed after a while that my sudden battery drains were triggered as soon as I received a message on Viber.
I also heard about facebook apps draining the battery.
Maybe you should first try to reset it to factory settings before asking a new battery?
Good luck with your phone, I know it can be frustrating..

Viber was the culprit in my case. Eating battery like a hungry monster :silly:

Battery drain no matter what i do

Even without sim card, the battery still drains, drained 10% every 5 hours. ( even wifi is off it still drains)
According to BetterBatterystats, the highest wakelock count in partial wakelock before is *backup*, (removed after disabling google backup)
The most wakelock right now is SuperStamina Xssm, it can be stopped after disabling Stamina mode, but even i did , this battery still drains.
any way to solve this? airplane mode also drains battery, basically nothing works from stopping battery drain.
in your screenshot you use wifi right?
Try to switch to GSM only (2G) in network settings and see if there's any difference.

How little do you expect the battery to drain? What are the current wakelocks right now? Are they still the same?
Can you use Wakelock Detector instead? The Xperia SP's battery might not be as great as you think....
Let's just calm down, and of course, help can never be demanded. Maybe your phone has a hardware problem that none of us can solve.

Take your phone to a sony service center(or where ever you bought the phone) and let them have a look at it, might be that your battery is just not working properly. They will replace if it for you.

i personally think is software problem, i tried drain the battery down to 0%, then charge it full without break,
after that, the battery drain is just godly, after 2 days left 98%, but then the battery suddenly started to drain like hell,
after 5 hours it became 94%, then it keep draining down as usual.

The problem may be deeper.
Your kernel may have flipped and its draining this much battery i am not sure how to check it but i would not suggest you to flash a new kernel right away just because i think thats the problem.

Battery issues are killing this phone for me

So, I really love this phone. Despite not being able to get it sim unlocked yet, I find that I'm even more satisfied with it than I expected. There's just one glaring issue: Battery drain, specifically at idle.
I have tried everything: Uninstalled/disabled all apps that I didn't need, used App Opps to turn off "keep awake" for just about everything that I could. Nothing works. Last night, I left it off the charger with 100% and 8 hours later, it was down to 50%. It loses 5-7%/hr at idle without doing anything at all. I'm in a high signal area. I tried charging it to full and turning off wifi. That had no effect either.
I'm seriously torn between wanting to return it because I can't even get through a single day on a charge and really wanting to keep it because the camera and screen are so awesome. I'm sure there will be an update down the road that will fix this and I don't think my device is defective. This drain definitely isn't normal.
Do a hard reset and see if that works.
If not take it in to tmobile, do a hard reset there And let it sit for 20 minutes and show them the idle battery drain.

I'm not wiping my brand new phone that has been doing this since I pulled it out of the box. A hard reset is not the answer to everything. There's definitely something wrong with the the software build.
It's my fault, of course. I should have added "in b4 do a hard reset" at the end of my post.
I know it sucks but try and tough it out. There is a massive issue relating to WiFi on this device right now. I am doing some testing but I think proof can be found in that when you turn off WiFi but WiFi calling was enabled in the dropdown you will fail to get cellular signal back at all. It will stay "Searching" all the time.

Yeah, I have tried leaving Wifi off completely, but I'm still draining pretty fast. The problem is, the phone is almost unusable for me like this because I can't even make it to the end of the day if I use it at all. And since I rooted, any update they release is going to be a pain to apply.
I blame 5.01, to be honest. The best thing Samsung could do is rush out a 5.1 update.
Same thing was happening to my phone out of the box as well, something was keeping it from deepsleep, did a hard reset, put all the same apps on. Now it sleeps like a baby.
I should note that battery life still isn't great but it does last me through a whole day, still getting high cell stand by drain.

OK People, Cleaned this chaos and trolling.......
Post respectfully or ........DO NOT POST........... easy
To your battery issues......... these issues are pretty much the same with all phones, so the fixes are pretty much the same\
Hard rest
Go into the menu and disable apps that are pinging GPS
Freeze apps that you do not need -if you are rooted then use titanium back up to freeze or other app that does the same - if you are rooted I would disable any updates from the Carrier or Samsung- that means disabling the patches/apps that control those.
Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth when not using it
Avoid leaving social media apps running in the background they can be battery hogs.......
This is what was recommended in 2010 ........... still pretty much good advice ........
The next person that posts disrespectfully or trolls will be met with an infraction
Keep kind and civil and ON TOPIC ONLY
Thanks ~~~ oka1

Dude, I was having the same exact problem with my S6. First, I disabled all of the apps I wasn't using. Next, I turned off wifi-calling. After that, I turned of VOLTE in the phone app. Last I backed up my music, pics, contacts, and sms's, and done a hard reset. I restored my stuff and completely charged it up. Now I am only loosing about 1% or less an hour at idle. I charged it up at 12, left it sitting and 3.5 hours later it's on 97%. That is quite an improvement for me as my S6 would be below 50% in the morning if I left it off of the charger over night for 6 or 7 hours......Just my two-cents to try and help. Good luck bro...

I wanted to add that this didn't start happening to me until after the OTA was installed, before that, it was good to go for a whole day so the OTA does something to knock things off track.

How do you do factory reset? When I go into settings-backup and reset, hit reset- it gives me the warning and I proceed then the phone just shuts down, and nothing happens.
Method 2 - I power off, then hold vol up, home and power, until this logo comes up and then it goes black. I am strating to think that there is something wrong with my stock recovery.
thoughts?
Did you try to root at some point?

Haven't several people said that the Cell Standby issue only started to appear after the update? I would wait on the update a bit to see if you have any battery issues just for the sake of knowing. Then update and see if it makes a difference.

But I charge it up to 100%, then I let it just stay asleep. However it really seems the battery drains quite fast even in that sleep mode? So far I have checked the stats and not really seeing anything causing a drain so am not sure. How is everyone elses standby mode? Thanks.
No one has seen this?
Likely one of you installed apps. Factory reset and see if that helps

actually, before factory reset, just try safe mode, which only enables default settings: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-34283

How will you know what apps to uninstall? Does it give you a sign or something?
