how is the macro shooting on the XZ2? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

Can one get any closer than the XZ1?
That's definitely one of the drawbacks I find on the previous XZ series cameras. Wondering if they've improved it or not... since it's a similar module I think I know the answer.

Here's a crop of a garden spider I took a few days ago.

just tried to take a Macro... it needs about 7-10cm to get rid of the blur... i'll do some advanced testing with Manual Mode and a tripod

Okay... here we go...
Auto Mode:
10cm

9cm (already somewhat blurry)
8cm (totally blurry)
Difference Between Manual Mode an Auto Mode is almost nonexistent
Manual Mode:
Auto Mode:
(Keep in mind, the Imgur compression which destroys the picture.... too lazy to upload original picture)
Oh... and if you think you can just switch to Manual Mode and set Manual Focus distance to the minimum... well, check the two hidden pictures above... this one is the same excep Manual Focus distance instead of Auto... same distance.
So yeah.... it's even worse -.-

Seems about the same as the XZ1, that's what I figured (but with a sharper, cleaner image).
I've been spoiled by my old Lumia 950 XL's camera's macro ability I guess.
We'll have to see if the module in the XZ2 Premium or their newer 48mp fairs any better.

Focus setting will make the difference I think

As you'll be able to see in the pic, in low lights or even a bit of light the camera has very much noise like burning fire no matter what mode I am using superior auto or manual but when I change ISO to 400 the noise tends to almost disappear but still does, so by not messing things up is this a common software issue? I had tried several camera apps all are the same is this software or hardware/lens issue? I am running on latest 2.257 firmware

Erm, could you post a few actual pictures please? The viewfinder does NOT display the quality of eventual images as it does not apply any processing. The view from the viewfinder will always be hella-noisy. (that's a term, right? Down with the kids, me )
Actual results can be as good as this:

[Q] [UPDATED WITH SAMPLES] Best camera app?

Hi there,
first of all excuse me if the question was already posted but currently I'm unable to search: "Search is temporary unavailable".
I'm not satisfied about stock camera, I mean 50% of times takes great shots but most of times it fails, I tried "manual mode" but for fast shots I always missed the Moment.
Right now I'm using ProCapture, FV5, Camera Zoom FX
Here some shoots: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x20hdehuizwewi5/8AWuFiitsu
Low lights:

Camera Zoom FX
FV-5
Stock App (manual)
Pro Capture
High Lights
Stock (Auto Mode)
Camera Zoom FX
Stock (Manual)
Pro capture
Notes
1. FV-5 has problems with touch to focus, can't get really the correct point you touch.
2. Camera Zoom FX has a nice steady stable shoot feature (configured with high, and .5 secs)
3. Manual was: iso auto, scene: none, stabilizer: no, metering: center, hdr: no
4. for all wide and 8mb (100% jpg quality, super fine quality (for apps that support that))
What about you? What camera app do you prefer? Settings?
You can download the album here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x20hdehuizwewi5/8AWuFiitsu
Can't see any of the images
I can not see any images.

Huawei 360 Camera owners

When you disable the watermark/logo in settings, do you still have a white foggy area above the phone? See photo. I am not sure if this is the just to use as a contrasting background for the black font watermark or if my camera is faulty. However surely if you remove the watermark in settings then the white fog should be removed too as it is not needed anymore?
So do I have a problem or is it normal with all the cameras?

Yes, mine does too. Seems to be Huaweis way of hiding the camera / phone from the shot
Is there any way of doing long exposure shot with this camera?
Huawei specs says that camera has up to 30sec exposure
Hello, everywhere is written that huawei cv60 360 camera is shooting 2k video, but in app written 1920x960 resolution, and this is not 2 k resolution, any thoughts ?

Not that I know of, the software would need to support it and it doesn't appear to at the moment.
Where is 2 k resolution?

In summary 1920x960 = 1843200 = 2K :cyclops: just marketing, nothing personal
This white overlay thing on the bottom of the 360 camera (white beneath huawei logo when on) is kind of annoying. Is there anyway this could be remove view editing the APK file.

Does the TOF sensor save usable depth maps?

Do we get depthmaps as files we can use on our own from this phone or is it a closed process only for the stock camera app?
Also interesting to know: will we be able to develop our own apps that make use of the ToF camera or is it locked down and just used for camera enhancements? Would be a shame if it is, to be honest.
Huawei will be coming with an AR-Measure app soon.
This app will use the TOF sensor to measure distance, height, volume and so on.
Guess that will be reversed engineered anyway so than it will be available
Well it would have to be included in a camera app if I want to use it with photos.
Tof can be used to create a 3D pictures of a room Like 'matterport' camera.
We need only an app to make it

Google launches AR measuring app so We no need the Tof measure app.

Has anybody inspected the jpeg-files (perhaps those of pictures taken in aperture mode) whether the ToF data is somehow encoded there? The jpeg file format (metadata) might provide room for this kind of information...
Yes. usable. Downloadble. Check this app

Problems with camera focus

Hey,
my wife is expecting a baby, so I decided to invest in a good mobile camera. Having read lots of positive reviews about p30 pro camera I decided to go for it. However, so far I have mixed feelings about it - pics at times are stunning, and other times I can't set focus settings right.
Here are some pics to illustrate the problem.

I got this result first time with my Xperia xz premium.
IS there any way to block focus so that it does not try to set either on the face or the background, but both of these at the same time?
Pics are not showing but you might want to turn off AI since it's probably going into portrait mode.

Well, it's not the case. AI doesn't change a thing. Unfortunately for some reason pics don't show, and I'm not allowed to post links as I'm under 10 posts. If you quote my original post l, there you can find the urls. I know it's a bother, but I'd appreciate if you could have a look

Yes, AI change some things in a photo.
In portraid mode blur background.
Some of the pics were taken in the auto mode with disabled ai, others in the pro mode. The outcome is as in the pics - a random thing
