Root on Nokia 8 Sirocco? - Nokia 8 Sirocco Questions & Answers

Hey all, been dragging my feet getting a new phone... I want root and modern ATT & Verizon devices just dont support that, also trying to avoid googs. Have fond memories of the old nokia's and am looking to give their modern phones a try since windows mobile failed and they moved to android (googs I know, what are ya gonna do). Has anyone had luck getting root on Sirocco? Being able to install a firewall is a must for any new phone I purchase. Am hoping root is a reality. If no, how bout the Nokia 7 Plus? Thanks all

I don't know about root but have you tried the application called "no root firewall"? It might help you to control what you wanted

Come on, get a grip... if you want iOS buy an iphone or itouch or even iPad, if windows mobile, you should get another htc. Its like I'm gonna ask can I get android on my Nokia 3310? ...
Please don't give such an appropriate question.

Yes but I think he asks because its possible the other way. Android OS has been ported to run on the iPhone afaik. Something many also thought was impossible.....

I bought a legend because of it's specs, screen, finish (aluminium casing),it cost way less than an iPhone, and finally because of Sense. The only reason i wanted to see would it work is because im sick of Google waiting to open the Paid market in Ireland (i know this is the case in alot of other contries aswell)

The HTC Legend has simular specs to the iPhone and you cant put the compare the Nokia 3310 in any way to the HTC Legend. As s7yler pointed out it the iPhone has been ported to Android. Im sorry if i took 2 minutes of your time but i was just curious if it would work, or if we could see it in the future! Hell i haven't even rooted my Legend yet! So thanks for your reaction, as i said i was just curious.

true even android can be run on some of the WM devices, because of the boot process, and phone spec. But iOS has completely different boot system/process though its not possible to run it on other devices (for now) , besides have you seen iOS run on any other devices then Apple's ? don't thinks so mate..
Also one big thing to remember...
The only reson android runs on ipod/iphone is because android is open source... and that is more easy to handle and port (Not that i am saying it was easy for them to port Android to the i devices as apple hardware is also keep as close source) then a closed source system as iOS....
It will be the same as porting Windows 7 to ARM or PowerPC cpu.... not something you can do without having access to the source code of windows...
Hmm i have run MAC OS on a pc so it is possible tbh

to be nice i wont say how many ways that statement is wrong...
but most of osx IS open source... NONE of iOS is open source...
And the only reson it is possibel to run osx on a pc is because the basic part of osx is open source and that is the kernel so it can be modded and rebuild to work on diffrent cpu's....
I know there are bin patched versions of the mach_kernel but they are never as good as the one that they make when apple release the source and that normal happens 14 days after the os update...
(to end this with a statement why i can say all this i can tell you i have been a active osx86 user the last 5 years, been really involved in the help channels and know a lot of the devs)

There is a solution to paid market not available. When I had android on my Diamond I used it for a while and the paid application were still unavailable in canada at this time so I made a little search on this and I found something.
There is an application that can make the market think you are from UK or US and then you have acces to all the paid application. You still need to pay but you have acces to buy them at least.
I don't remember the name but it was something like "market enabler". Sorry I erased all android data of my phone cause there is no more development in this direction and GPS, bluetooth and camera were still missing. I can't even think of living without google maps with AGPS and speeking while driving is illegal over here unless using a bluetooth headset or an hands free system.
Good luck with that.

As far as it comes to your question about if it's possible to run ios4: i think it's not nice of people to make fun of you for just asking, technics-geeks as we all are many of us just want to know IF it's possible.. people shouldn't be flamed just for asking.

Flash player and file access questions...

I'm interested in the Lumia 920 and have an upgrade coming up from my GS2. However there are two things I need from a Mobile, Flash Player and direct file access to my phone. I want to be able to watch Sky F1 Live Stream coverage when I'm away and most Youtube videos still use Flash Player, trying to view Youtube on a non desktop version of the site is just painful. Using my friends iPhone made me realise just how much Flash Player is needed, which I never noticed until I didn't have it. I don't care about the haters saying it's crap, until it isn't used any more, it will be needed for me personally. Also again I don't want to have to use software to be able to drop files to and from my phone, I just want it to be like a Hard Drive on a PC when you plug it in.
Thanx.
WP will never support flash and WP8 does not support direct file access.
Windows phone not been rooted or jail broken or whatever you wanna call it yet? If not I wont bother, hate being told how to use my phone, why I don't like the iPhone.
I love how open Android is and it does everything I want but I just find the handsets to be horrible lol.
Surely someone will just release Flash for Windows Phone that you can install yourself?
Even android turned it's back on flash recently and adobe stopped developing mobile flash player so it's pretty much guaranteed that it won't come to WP. I personally wouldn't put my money on anyone developing a flash player for WP.
A lot of WP7 phones have gotten a jailbreak but since WP8 is based on a new kernel and will come with stuff like secure boot it should be quite tough to jailbreak it. We will just have to wait and see.
It seems like android is the only option for you if you really need the openness.
So guys are telling we can't access and use the internal sdcard as we want. Can we explore the files of the external sd from an file explorer app on the phone? Can we install apps from pc like we can done in android (adb install Facebook.apk) or directly from sdcard/extsdcard?Those are very important for me if I'm gonna buy a wp8 phone.

Microsoft has the source code for Flash and is reportedly bundling it in IE10 for Windows RT.
http://www.winsupersite.com/article...-internet-explorer-10-ship-adobe-flash-143180
If I remember correctly, it is more limited and runs on white-listed sites for security reasons.
Presumably, MS could add it to WP8 too if they wanted.

That's the 820... I don't get why that has a Micro SD slot and the 920 doesn't...
I dunno the whole thing smells like a half arsed attempt to me, I'll pass and stick with my GS2 and just wait for something perfect to come along.
Really give me the Lumia design with GS3 specs and Android and I'll be happy.
I guess the most accurate answer would be that WP8 does not support hot swapping - you can't remove the card while the phone is still powered on. For the Lumia 820 the SD-Card can only be removed if you remove the battery first. Given that the 920 has a fixed battery and a Unibody Design this would not be easily enforcible. That's just a theory though.

Android on Nokia lumia 620

Hello I am just asking if I can flash my Nokia lumoa620 to android if no tell why if yes tut or link please thank u
No you can't. There are no Drivers for the Hardware, no one has bothered to work on it and the most likely reason is that all WP8 devices use SecureBoot to make sure only signed OS code gets executed on the Hardware which (at the Moment at least) prevents any Kind of CustomROMs.
The Windows Mobile days are over. No Windows Phone device has ever been able to run another OS and it's likely to stay that way.

Nope. Windows devices are all protected and encrypted to hell and back. You'd be better off getting a separate Android device (consider a Nexus device, those are cheap and good for their cost), or finding replacement apps for WinPhone.

Yes, we heard of that. And it's not a Windows Phone device! It originally ran Windows Mobile (which is something completely different than Windows Phone) and was hacked to run other operating systems like android, and even Windows 8
The only reason the HD2 lasted so long, was because @coutulla was behind the hood. He had done everything he possibly wanted on that device. With him not interested in Windows Phone, you all can just wait for HTC and MS to work out the kinks for dual-boot phones. Go to WPCentral to figure out your self. My only remark: Nokia devices will not be able to run android, or vice versa, misc phones e.g. Motorola Droids will not run WP8. WP8 is device specific, while Android can float around a little more easy, but both Android and Windows Phone is dependent on the cellular radio and device specific drivers. It's a can 'o worms that we don't want to mess with, and the one that can to this type of work are going away from Windows Phone. Anyways, I'm not sure what ultrashot has been up to these days.
HD2 (Leo) was a Windows Mobile device (WinMo 6.5 was retroactively rebranded Windows Phone, but it bears no resemblance to the WP line). Although WP7 was successfully ported to the Leo, the hardware actually did not conform to the chassis specification for the OS; calling it a "Windows Phone device" is therefore more than a little disingenuous. Besides, even among WinMo devices, the Leo was absurdly multi-OS capable; most mobile devices are lucky if they ever get two different OS families running on them. Leo had WinMo, WP7, Android, desktop Linux, and a handful of others as well; the fact that this is notable makes it the exception which proves the rule that generally, it's not possible.

And only think that the bigger part of cotulla's projects weren't public released (windows embedded compact 7, apple stuff and so on ) I wonder what he is doing now..and where is the DFT (probably they are working on htc one). Anyway, I think that a dual boot between android and WP8 is not possible because of UEFI..android doesn't have it so it's impossible to make it boot if on the phone there's WP8. Cotulla made a long chain to make it possible: HSPL-MAGLDR(to run android)-UEFI MAGLDR(to run WP8) And HTC or any other manufacter will do something like that. Windows asked HTC to give a choice (Android OR windows phone)..I think that HTC refused because Microsoft asked even to Huawei and Samsung in any chase HTC is failing, probably will close soon..
Why are you doing this,Android is not smooth,I hate it,so I buy a windows phone to instead HTC Desire.

Put Android on a Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE?

Hello there, new to the forum!
My Q. is if it is possible to put Android on the MC Lumia 640 LTE? And it being stable and performant.
If so, please link me a tut!
Thanks !
Install some of launchers from store
Sorry, but thats not possible.
Same thing as wp on a Android device.
Just a few pointers you have to overcome........think of hardware compatibility, drivers, radio etc etc.
Niche Info
You can not do this
dont ruin super phone with android
Even if you could performance would not be very good.
Wp runs much better on the same hardware
Wish this could be done. I love the $60 Lumia 640's hardware more than some of my $200+ phones. The swappable unibody shells are great. But... windows is crippling this beauty. I'd go pick up 3 of these if android was possible.
There are $60 Androids phone, so...
Not as nice as the Lumia's hardware. To get an android phone, as good as the 640, you'd need to spend something upwards of $180.

A smartphone is just HW. If we want another OS, we will port it somehow. I have 4 Lumias, and still, I prefer android because of the apps, even if I know, that WP runs much better on the same HW. And until now my favorite Android device was one that shipped with Windows. I don't personally own a 640, but if it got a SecureBoot bypass, I would surely buy one, and start messing with Android on it, the same way, as I am messing with WM10 stuff for my current (Android based) phone now

Since this phone comes with gesture navigation similiar to iOS, the overall change won't be a problem, also you won't need to use that awful iTunes app for the phone to even communicate with your pc. I used to have an iPhone 6, and I did not like it, since almost every app that was free on google play, i had pay for them on appstore, also using iTunes if I had to move some music to my phone, i did not like the process of it. You get much more freedom with an android phone, and this phone would be a good experience for you.
I suggest you try out the phone for yourself until satisfaction before buying it.
