Lol, It has 12mp + 20mp, 12 mp is main camera, 20mp is for night photos, it switches automatically but somewhere I read that you can switch them manually too,

There is a BUT to this

Photo quality is not about megapixels,,, mi 6x and mi a2 has camera with 1.25 um pixel size. its smaller than Google Pixel and Mi 5s that have 1.55 um pixel size sensor...

How is it related?

You are saying that each pixel is smaller, even if that is true still morr pixel means better picture quality, my problem is that why should Mi A2 main camera be 12MP and not 20MP one ?

Yeah its true that Megapixels size bigger is better when it has same sensor...
In mi a2 / mi 6x case, the 12mp camera is have better sensor than the 20mp, so the 12mp is the main camera, 20mp is just help 12mp on low light.
12mp use Sony IMX 486
20mp use Sony IMX 376

Tell me more about it
Wow, that could be the only explanation. Can you please tell me where ti find details on A2 camera ?
And may I ask why not just an awesome camera plus 2MP for depth of filed ?

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Lenovo P2 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I wonder what sensor the phone is using. The EU version P2A42 is using the Sony IMX258. But the P2C72 (Chinese global version seems to be using the Sony Exmor RS)?

Do you have any reference for that info? I didn't see any hardware specs that confirm it.
https://www3.lenovo.com/in/en/smartphones/p-series/Vibe-Lenovo-P2/p/PPIPPIP2C72
it says only Sony camera, but not which one :-/
here http://www.livemint.com/Leisure/JGS...amera-proves-just-megapixels-dont-matter.html it says that it is Sony IMX258
Photos taken by P2 are awful. They have lots of noises even on the lowest ISO and they lack details. Camera is the biggest disadvantage of this smartfone. But I love it anyway because of battery and performance.

Strange on kimovil there was other info. The chinese version had a Sony Exmor.
https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/lenovo-vibe-p2,lenovo-vibe-p2-32gb
Now both are 1:1 the same.. Hmm. But yeah anyways my old phone had a better camera. I was kinda disappointed, and also the software is terrible. It's full of bugs, I will root this sucker soon.
The rear camera is imx258 and the front camera is a ov5695.

P2's low light camera performance can be noticeably improved!
If your P2 is rooted and you have enabled Camera2 Api, please try yourself a Snap Camera HDR app ( It's avaiable in a Play Store in both Trial and Pro version, you can also find pro version cracked, erm...let's say, in the Internet. )
I've found this guy's guide in the Redmi Note 4 thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/themes/google-camerawith-hdr-mido-t3656196/post74676264#post74676264. My phone is running the unofficial LOS 14.1 and...it really makes a diffrence.
Photos are being made for over a second and then about 10 seconds takes processing them (you can made another photo in the meantime).
All of these photos were made without any tripod, sometimes I sat down or leaned against the lamppost/wall but nothing really crazy(maybe 30 photos). Some photos are maybe a bit out of focus after close-up (EDIT: After seeing photos in the laptop I think that photos without "tap to focus" tend to be a bit sharper) and some of them are a little overexpossed after touch-to-focus (They don't after pressing the camera button without tapping to focus before), anyway you can play with a metering area setting(I wasn't), but...see it for yourself.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157690966808425/
The P2 didn't magically became the S8 or the flagship camera but in my opinion photos are acceptable now.
What do you think?

[REQUEST] GCam mods A71

As per the thread tittle, are there any devs currently working on GCam mod optimised for Samsung Galaxy A71? Would love to test them out and compare with stock photo app.
Just search on Google, there's quite a lot.
Works just fine. I'd say depending on the shot the HDR works better on gcam, but auto-focus seems better/faster on the native camera app. So far I'm just using the Samsung app.
i'm used MGC_7.3.018_Parrot043-v1, with realme 5 config and change awb to s5kgw1, for result its same with app stock like iso and exposure time. but. for night mode i choose gcam. because detail is very good and time to capture didnot take long time like stock night mode.

No, not really. Gcam also just gives 16mp. Maybe a port of the Oppo/Realme camera could? They usually have that option.

Is ultra wide lens still not working on all gcam mods?
Gcam app crashes when trying to switch lenses. Also, it appears Gcam doesn't detect and utilize the 64MP sensor

This doesn't support the wide angle nor the macro lens. It doesn't seem to be a build for the a71 but for the s20.
Who cares about the crappy wide angle lens or 64mp mode? For anything but gcam snapshots with main camera I use my Fujifilm cameras instead.
I need help with using the gcam for astrophotography. Ive downloaded more than 10 version. And none worked.. another thing is when capturing nightmode, it only says to hold still. There is no shutter count down at all. Ive seen thru google that this device can actually do that star shots using gcam.
Please see sample image ig my gcam shot with astrophotography enabled.

So far I haven't found any version of GCAM that works well in night mode and astrophotography. In all the variants I tested, the captures in night sight mode are worse than the night mode of the stock camera. It doesn't matter if you are in night sight or astrophotography, the capture time never exceeds 3 or 4 seconds. And the results are always mediocre. Before the A71, I had the Moto G8 Power, and depending on the version of GCAM, I was able to capture up to about 19 seconds. The results were better with the G8 Power. And both have camera 2 api level 3 enabled. The A71 needs a version of GCAM modified exclusively for it, otherwise we will never really take advantage of the photographic set. Of course, the same cannot be said for HDR + mode. Especially if Lib Patcher has been enabled. Samsung's forced post-processing disappears, and the details really get much better in GCAM. The images are just a little dark, but I believe that a custom xml will solve it.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro camera faces serious problems and looks like a hardware issue

Mine does suffer this lens issue but it's no where near as bad as the video shown.
Although in many scenarios the main camera of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro delivers at least good results, disaster often strikes when facing various light sources such as the sun and the moon, but not limited to them. In these cases, the results include reflections and artefacts that simply ruin the photos or videos.

After playing around with mine I think it's lens flare. It's hardly surprising with a 6 element lens but I don't get any of that ghosting.
Managed to upload image after resizing.

Lens flare - Wikipedia
en.m.wikipedia.org
.
Umm these are called lens flares... Perfectly normal thing for any camera.
Have you ever watched a JJ Abrams movie?
I dont know if you guys are referring to me or op but I don't mind lens flares.
I was just showing image how it looks on my phone.
lol. why such big deal? our camera lens is not covered by a flourite lens or a nano coated lens .. lol. .
this is the Apple-Effect in action, the phone/brand is popular now so things like this are news...
I have the same problem on mi 10t (not pro). Sometimes bright lights make the photo look foggy in some areas due to lens flare. Tried with Gcam and Open camera too. I think the lens (or the camera glass) is the same as mi 10t pro's.
Guys, I wrote the NBC article. Here'a follow-up - Google Camera apparently takes care of the effect a bit. In the meantime, I noticed SEVERE optical distortion at the borders of the frame in most scenarios. Nothing wrong with lens flare, it's sometimes nice to shoot contre-jour photos, but the Mi 10T Pro seems to deliver lens flare even with smaller light sources. Oh, and don't get me started on color problems...

Question Upgrading Mi 11 Ultra --> Xiaomi 13 Pro

Is anyone thinking about upgrading Mi 11 Ultra to Xiaomi 13 Pro ?
I've skipped 12S Ultra as there were not many new things, and not much difference in camera quality.
Today I find out there is Xiaomi 13 Pro released globally, there are already some reviews and battery tests

The source code for the Xiaomi 13 pro is not yet available unlike the Xiaomi 12 pro for example, which has been available since December 2021.
There is already not a single rom for the 12 pro 8 Gen1 while the kernel dates from December 2021.
In my opinion several obstacles, incomplete Kernel ***, the completely new fingerprint part ***, the soc, price.
(***confirmed by developers).
Maybe it's the soc, for devices over a year old brands like One Plus or Samsung no AOSP rom too.

Spoiler: CAMERA
If you skipped 12s Ultra because not much difference in camera quality, then you'll definitely want to skip 13 Pro which is a downgrade. You're getting much worse ultrawide and telephoto sensors (they are much smaller and also 3.2x vs 5x), and though the main sensor is marginally better, you're losing the mod support. Mi 11 Ultra has a full resolution RAW unlocker which gives 50MP RAW photos from GCam. It's questionable if the 13 series will ever get it since the 12 series still don't. This is what still makes the 11 Ultra the best camera system.
If cameras are a secondary thought to you, then yeah it may be worth upgrading, since the new chipset is really good. Performance, battery life, no overheating, that's all great. Development is just unknown yet, but judging by the 12 series it may not be great.

Question Is the Ultra still king of the hill?

If you want the best Android camera experience, is the M11 still the best option more so than the Pixel 7 Pro and other recent releases?
Top 2 android contenders right now would be 12S ultra or samsung s23 ultra apparently.
As far as I know Mi 11 ultra is better than 12s ultra camera wise.

Based on camera samples I have seen on several popular (and not so popular) YouTubers, the best overall is the Samsung Galaxy Ultra phones. I do like a little bit (just subtle) of vibrancy in my pictures.

S23U ist not at all better. The sensors are really small, the Mi 11 Ultra has superior sensors, only the image processing of the S23U is more up to date (but you can fix that with GCam on the Mi 11 Ultra)
I've testet many different phones now, the best cameras at the moment are the Vivo X90Pro+ and Oppo FInd X6 Pro - unfortunately both are China only.
One of the best main cameras is the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) if you shoot in Apple ProRAW (50MB+ per file, but the quality is great) but the ultra-wide and the tele sensors of the iPhone are not good.
So right now if you have a Mi 11 Ultra or 12S Ultra and you live outside of China, be happy and keep your Xiaomi

So right now if you have a Mi 11 Ultra or 12S Ultra and you live outside of China, be happy and keep your Xiaomi

S23U ist not at all better. The sensors are really small, the Mi 11 Ultra has superior sensors, only the image processing of the S23U is more up to date (but you can fix that with GCam on the Mi 11 Ultra)

One thing to add, you can literally beat ProTRASH with the GCam 12MP RAW, so can't really agree on that point.
