Question - Moto G6 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, everything good, I wanted to ask a question
The Software Channel of my Moto G6 play retbr
more the Base band and different
I would like to know if this will influence the Pacth security updates of Android Thanks!

Hello,
Your device's software channel depends on which region your phone was built for. The 'retbr' software channel is for the Brazilian models of the Moto G6, I believe. That channel is from where your software updates will be downloaded.
This doesn't necessarily mean that changing your software channel, if at all possible, will speed up or slow down security patch updates. It simply depends on when Moto decides to release an update to that model.
If Moto is known for releasing updates in a certain region before anything else, that's when it will be useful, but as far as I know, you can't change that for now.

Android 8.1 release notes removed.

Hi Guys!
Recently Motorola released release notes for Android 8.1 for Moto G5s Plus.
But unfortunately Motorola has removed that release note from their website. And I don't know why.
Looks like Motorola had accidently released those notes.
Here's that release note webpage.

Oh god. This is mean
Yes, i don't understand why :'(
Is it possible the update notes were meant for soak testers and not for general release?

It's possible this is a cheap chinese company doing what cheap chinese companies do - cut corners at every turn to make a profit from something somebody else designed; in this case motorola branded phones running android. We knew the upgrade process was an afterthought for them, and now we know they can't handle PR/marketing related functions properly either. They're probably oblivious to the fact that people are disappointed. "What's the problem? We get a request for information about oreo and we point you at the now nine month old web page which says "yes, you'll get oreo" - what more do you want?".
Yes, look this now.

I don't understand this.
It's a security patch update notice. As it says.

the thing is that the Z play has got oreo release notes before the soak test started...
By the looks of it. We might have to wait longer for Android Oreo to be released for our precious Moto G5S plus. It is unfortunate because I really love Motorola's phones. They have been lacking it when it comes down to the new Android operating systems.
Take a look at this chat, they're not even giving proper responses.
The link he had mentioned is of APRIL'S Security Update

Moto Sucks!!! Need help moto g5s plus oreo.

New to this site so bear with me. Heard that moto g5s plus is being updated to android oreo. Didn't get OTA notification, so last resort, manually update the phone to oreo. Without root mind you. Problem: build number is different, software channel is in the US, so there's zero chance of updating the phone regardless. Anybody else has this issue?
Be patient, it's coming.

The point of the modding community nowdays

Hi guys,
I'd like to talk about huawei state of the scene nowdays. Maybe can be usefull to others.
I have a P10 branded with Italy carrier stuck ant C113 B364 so I started to think to mod this phone. Mainly because of the GPU Turbo that on sheet seems awsome but for what I've read is not so awsome.
The Huawei scene seems dead...very dead, except for openkirin and fromfuture and a custom Kernel. The point is: is Huawei messed things up on purpose to discourage the modding community?
The main thing because I don't consider now an OpenKirin rom is because Camera (it seems is preinstalled in OK rom but I didn't find any review and I don't have time in this period to make a test) and the main thing because I don't consider fROM future is because magisk preinstalled, I never had luck with root hider module, and some bank and nintendo app, don't start with rooted rom.
But If I just want to rebrand go, for example for C342 B387 which is the lastest stock fw, will this prevent me to downgrade later? because my fear is to update to a fw and then have trouble with downgrade...
A thing that I hate is when a brand deny me freedom with my phone, I hate so much, but in this particular period of my life I don't have much time to test and change rom if something goes wrong. Maybe next year, I will have time to mess with custom rom, change it, revert back, as much as I can...
So why the modding community is pretty dead or stuck on B370? what are the issues?
Are there any problem if someone try lastest stock (B387 now)? can we have always the possibility to downgrade to B370? treble? or revert even to nougat?
why gpu turbo is so shi**y?
how huawei is trying to killing the community? and why in your opinion?
I think will be interesting to talk about this, maybe it could help other than me
thank you
Hello.
Yes, i'm thinking that Huawei trying to kill community especially some critics, which they are not satisfied of update process. They don't respond on Facebook, live chat etc. First of all, they blocked servers with bootloader unlocking codes, why ? I don't know, maybe rumors about invigilation have point here - AOSP roms - less control, but this is only my presumptions. Second thing, they blocked servers with software which cause tools like Firmware Finder have limited functionality.
Huawei treat some countries like 3rd world's countries like Poland. We are stucked on B376 build since October, FF shows 4 next builds including GPU Turbo builds but no one got update on phone. Other countries like Germany have B380 active distribution, and BETA test program of Android Pie including beta distribution since few days. Lot of peoples here have branded phones with C738 region, after buing bootloader code for 4$ and debrand, they getting new OTA updates faster and earlier than phones bought in open market ! I know cases where some branded phones have approval for C432 build in FF. That's not funny.
And now the best thing, P10 Lite got updates with November security and GPU Turbo 3 weeks ago! P10 stucked with September Google safety patches. Low-budget phone have much better support here.
Regarding GPU Turbo feature, that's very strange how Huawei made awesome marketing by fixing bug in software. First they limited performance then fixed them to increasing their sale.
Today, i know that i bought my first and last Huawei.
Regards,
Matt.
Thank you @dm1991 it's a nice answer. For me p10 will be the last huawei ever.
Btw now I'd like to discover if its true that there are issue on downgrading from build above b370

Help - beginner

Hi All
I hope everyone is looking after each other. I have a G7 plus which I ordered online mid last year. I'm in Australia and I have found out the phone is from Bulgaria. Anyhow it's been a disaster. Apparently Bulgaria aren't releasing Android 10. I guess my question is how can I get it? I'm pretty tech savvy and can follow your advice. Advice which would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Trent

Hey Trent, hope you're keeping well too!
Do you know what your software channel is? It's in your phone settings.
I wouldn't dismiss not getting Android 10 just yet - I know the UK just got it a day or so ago and even myself (in Canada, Latin American version from Amazon) just got it about three weeks ago.
To answer you directly, I'm not aware of any way to force the update if the ROM is not available for your channel yet.
Motorola is notoriously slow at releasing and rolling out updates (they announced the Android 10 roll out in January and here we are in April) so hang in there - as far as I am aware all G7+ should be getting this update so give it a bit more time.

Thanks for your prompt reply. The software channel is reteu. The reason I'm concerned is I know in Australia they've had Android 10 for awhile and when I checked on the Bulgarian site it said they weren't updating the G7. I just hope if they do it works in Australia

Oh hmm.
According to reddit reteu should have gotten it:
Finally! (Moto G7 plus reteu)
I was under the impression that your physical location didn't matter, just your channel did but I could be wrong.
One thing I would be tempted to try is setting up a VPN and connecting to a server in Australia.
You might also want to post on the "official" Motorola forum for our devices:

Whoops, yes. Lack of coffee in the morning when I wrote that!
If that's not possible to find a VPN endpoint in Bulgaria then I think any European country should do because "reteu" is "Retail Europe".
I hope it works although I'm grasping at straws here - I'm on retla ("Retail Latin America") and physically in Canada and I am pretty sure the update came out the same time for all devices on retla regardless of location.
But it doesn't hurt to try, right?

That's just bizarre. What's the address for that site? The G7 Plus is supposed to receive one major version upgrade (Android 9 to 10) and subsequent security patches for a time.
What's your exact model number? Ie. mine is XT-1965-2
What is the message when you try to check for updates?
If your software channel is RETEU you can download the official firmware from lolinet , then use the lenovo/motorola smart assistant to flash it. It will wipe your device FYI. I've personally never done it so not sure the exact steps, but it can be done.
the LMSA can be found HERE
I've also heard of people putting the firmware file on the root of an SD card, then checking for system update in settings and it can get detected as a legitimate update (as it will be, lolinet files are official firmware dumps).
Also someone else has written an update script in THIS THREAD you can try if the above does not work, however try the official moto route before resorting to that as a last resort (also should/will work however).
Hope this helps.
(also i wouldnt be concerned about it being from Bulgaria. If its a reteu xt1965-3 youll be able to flash the 10 official update)

Thanks heaps for that. There are two versions of Android 10. Which one do I pick?
Yes I do have reteu xt1965-3. It's still actually stuck in January 2019 for the security patch

@trent79, did you manage to get your phone updated?

Updates for Pixel 5 on Verizon network

Checked for this through first 10 pages of this forum; my apologies if I missed it there or elsewhere.
Last update targeted to Verizon was February 2021.
Any idea why Verizon-focused updates are so infrequent? I'm guessing it's just not a priority to them.
Is there any reason not to use latest P5 image (either factory or OTA, like RQ2A.210505.003, for example) to get the benefit of Google feature updates as well as security aspects? I wouldn't use an image meant for another carrier, but I'm not sure if there are differences in the non-carrier versions that I might need to be aware of.
My P5 is rooted and on RQ1D.210105.003. I did NOT buy it through Verizon.
Thanks in advance for your time and help.

The only time there are Verizon specific updates are for when they are needed to work on their network. Most times, the regular update is all that is needed. They still get released on the same day, so if you don't see one that's Verizon specific, use the regular one.
I usually avoid the Verizon specific releases. Never had an issue.
