Camera shortcut - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'd like to implement a camera shortcut other than the stock one with the volume rocker, as that is really awkward when trying to adjust volume.
On LineageOS and stock Samsung S7 software, you can set double press home to launch the camera. On most android phones you can use a double press of the power button.
Can either of these things be activated on the P20 Pro through and app or module?
I really miss that feature.

A workaround would be using for example "Edge Gesture" . You can configure different gestures on the edges to open up the Camera App or any other App. For example whenever I hold the right display edge for 1s, it will open up the camera.
I would also be interested in a solution involving physical buttons. But at least you won't miss the shot so easily anymore.

Hi,
I'd like to have a shortcut on my homescreen to e.g. pro-mode and monochrome. Alas, when long-pressing the camera app symbol, it only gives me choices I don't want. Is there any way to get other camera modes as shortcuts apart from those?
greetings

[Q] can you customise what the camera button does?

Is there a way to change what the camera shutter button does?
I'd like it to launch my music app rather than launch the camera.
Cheers
That would be an interesting option, I use some PTT apps and I always have dreamed about a customizable button.
I found that:
key 212 CAMERA
You can find it on
/system/usr/layout/Generic.kl
/system/usr/layout/gpio-keys.kl
/system/usr/layout/KEYPAD.kl
/system/usr/layout/mrst_keypad.kl

power button to camera

So the op3t had the option to double click the power button to open up camera, it's quick and all, but can we change the camera to the updated Google camera one?
You can change it (double tap power button) to open the Google camera. But it will still open the stock camera when the screen is off (phone locked). I tried freezing the stock camera app, to see what would happen, and it broke the double-tap functionality altogether (double tapping power does nothing).
There is another thread discussing this, and it seems that the double-tap function is embedded into OOS and currently nobody has found a way to "remap" it under all conditions.

With root can we replace the quick launch camera app

I've search the Note 8 forums, found similar but not specific to root. I'm wondering now that we have root can we replace the double tap home quick launch Samsung camera with a different app, specifically the ported gcam with HDR auto. Also wondering if it can be set to work with the screen locked like the built in camera. Perhaps an app exists and I'm just not finding it.
I have put the camera as my lockscreen shortcut but it still requires unlock to run. Coming from the Pixel, I find the gcam app to get me images much more similar to Pixels quality vs what comes out of Samsung's camera.
You dont even need root, you can use one of the various ways to remap bxby. Personally I have my bixby button remapped to 1 click is camera, double click is google now, and longpress is torch. works with screen off too, so its very handy. I did this with BK Disabler to disable bixby and bxActions to remap the button. Note: you can leave bixby enabled if you so choose and yuou can still have one click be bixby as normal if you like, then double tap camera. - EDIT : I just saw you wanted a different app, while I have mine set as default camera, I would assume there are already routes to use others as well.
I think the OP is asking if it's possible to remap the camera shortcut. OP stated double tap home for camera but that's how it was on my Note 5. On the Note 8 the double tap camera shortcut is the power button. I don't think there is a way to remap that with an app, not that I have seen anyway. I believe that shortcut is a part of the actual camera app.

Is it possible to port the old camera to the new Pie One UI

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is compatibility for the old camera app on the new One Ui? Or is it possible to port it now or in the future?
Two things make the camera a downgrade when switching to the new One UI, for me at least:
- You had a separate button for video and picture, so you were one touch away from taking either a video or a picture. I had a really nice setup where I could take a video with the volume buttons and open camera and take picture with 1 click of the Bigsby button. This proved really useful when i went horse back riding for the first time, or with gloves on when the screen is not responsive.
- More importantly: You had a dual shot mode where you could take pictures/video with both cameras at the same time. This was really useful when trying to fit more people in a picture, or even for me to be in there, and have a nice memory stored.
They also locked the Bigsby button so you can no longer disable it... again...
Search for the app on apkmirror and try installing it.

I agree with you. I would also like the previous functionality of having both the camera and video buttons on the same screen again.
As far as the Bixby button goes, you can use BxActions to disable and remap the button. It works pretty well.

I do use BxActions, but how do you prevent Bigsby from appearing when you press it? You used to have to disable it from the Bigsby app, and yo no longer have that option.

I disabled my single press function. I only have a long-press function for my flashlight. Bixby doesn't show up for me when I single-, double-, or long-press the button. Occasionally it'll show the icon at the top and it did open Bixby once, but I couldn't figure out under which circumstance that was and I couldn't replicate it again since. Bottom line, Bixby doesn't show up for me when I press the button.

Enable Camera with Knuckle Gesture

Hi,
It's my first Huawei Phone and I miss some Gestures from my Samsung phone. The biggest miss i have is how to toggle the Camera. With Samsung you double press the on/off button and the camera goes on. On Huawei there is only a method to double press volume down button WHEN the Screen is OFF and you don't listen to MUSIC. Now my question is: How can i set a shortcut to activate Camera from ANYWHERE? No matter whether toggle with Buttons or Knuckle Gestures or whatever. I just don't want to open app drawer everytime i want to use the camera.
Thanks in advance.
