E5 Plus Recommended? - Moto E5 Questions & Answers

I am in the market for a new phone (coming from an LG G3 on Sprint). My G3 is on it's last legs and I revived it enough to get most data off.
I don't need the latest and greatest flagship phone, not looking to spend a lot, but definitely need to be able to go ad-free and root. I figure anything now would be a huge upgrade from the G3. I loved how easy it was to root the G3 though.
There hasn't been a lot of chatter about the E5 Plus, but for those of you who do have it, what are the pros/cons you have found? Thanks everyone.
Phone I am considering:
-Moto E5 Plus
-Essential
-(gasp) iPhone 7+

I recommend the Boost Mobile Moto E5 Plus, it's just straight up a good deal for the price.

locked VZ S4 -> Dev Moto X, Is this a good idea?

I have 1 year left on my contract and on my S4, but I use none of the special S4 features and am tired of a locked down phone. I am thinking of moving over to a moto X, and was just hoping for any and all feedback.
X+1
I am waiting for the Sept 4th announcement to do anything, But I expect the X + 1 dev edition to cost too much (anything much over $500 and I will be seriously thinking, over $600 and I am out for sure.)
I am hoping to have the new phone I get cost roughly similar to a new phone on contract after I subtract the money made by selling my nearly mint S4 (hoping $250-$300?)
About me:
I don't play games, I just need web browsing, FB, music player, view the occasional document, ect..
I am not an obsessive flasher. I want root/custom recovery to give me the option of managing my own updates. Mostly having a recent OS and the option to flash minor modifications such as offered by xposed framework or stock based roms is my biggest concern.
I use none of my touchwiz fanciness, automated things that go off automatically tend to annoy me (not sure about that voice control in this regard though it sounds cool),
Why Moto x?
Active display, Moto's payment plan, unlocked BL, as well as the "grown up" focus on solid performance and ergonomics is what appeal to me. My S4's specs already seem to be more then I need, and if the Moto X can be as snappy or more then my S4 while giving me an up to date phone for the next year and a half I will be content. (Should be out of school and making decent money by then?)
Why not s4?
I feel like the S4 has more flash then I can appreciate, while being slightly uncomfortable, having annoyingly poor build quality and a fairly bleak future for the modding community... And that at least for now I could move to a moto X for the cost of a new contract phone, but with out contract and with an unlocked bootloader to boot.
Not sure on this one though, and a little worried about being happy still with a Moto X a year from now... So trying to get a wide variety of opinions on this.
What carrier? If Vzw go for a Maxx it is already a x + 1/2! Lol.

It is VZ, but I thought the Maxx was no longer available as a dev edition?
If I didn't make it clear enough, the majority of the reason I am getting rid of the S4 is jumping through hoops with updates, and wanting a device that is guaranteed unlocked on Verizon.

yeah it looks like I just missed the $324 but I am going to call up and talk with customer service to see what they can do. Just waiting to hear back about the moto playment plan.
Can you talk more about the differences in your experience with each device? Just kind of general which one you like more and how the moto has been... I like what I hear about reception, seems like mine is never quite good enough.
I pretty much use the phone like you, I like my S 4 mdk for battery life and tweeks with custom kernel, but Samsung radio's have poor reception. I've owned Motorola phones in the past reception has always been good with moto. This is why I purchased.

I feel the X screen is too dim/variable compared to the Maxx. Root is not necessary on the Maxx, to me, anyway.

Signal is great on any Moto.
I love my VZW X DE. Had a non-DE maxx, sold it cause i lost root after taking 4.4
Performance and battery life are awesome. Im sure this device will please me for at least the next year, or until i have enough spare cash to justify an upgrade
One thing to note, is that if the O.P. browses through the development forums for the Moto X, there are not very many ROM's. If you love to flash something new every few days, then you might be disappointed.
However, the reason that there aren't very many ROM's is because the stock experience is so good - for the things you listed - active display, Moto Assist, etc. that don't work in AOSP based Rom's. A stock, debloated ROM with xposed is really all that is needed to have a fantastic device!
I wouldn't be surprised if the Moto X dev editions get cheap again after the Sept 4th press conference, or at the very least, I expect Swappa/Ebay to have several after that date Maybe even mine
I just switched from an S4 to a Moto X developer and I am very pleased. I took advantage of the $324 sale they had on the Moto X developer edition.

Verizon Moto X vs LG G3

Hey guys. I am looking for some opinions on these 2 phones. I currently have a rooted/bootloader unlocked verizon LG go but I am strongly considering selling it and buying a Moto X. I owned last year's moto x and once rooted, it was the best android phone I ever owned.
I like the smaller size of this year's moto x when compared to the g3 and also the fact that it runs a stock version of Android. I know at some point the g3 will get aosp roms that will solve the stock Android issue but you never really know how buggy those my be.
My concern about going with the moto x is losing root for things like adaway, greenify, and mobile hotspot. Also concerned about the battery life on the moto x. Should these items be a concern or can they be address without root?
I really like the moto x smaller footprint. Granted when it was announced, I was disappointed that it grew so much but all phones are bigger now and I think it's size is the best of what's available on verizon.
Please give me your thoughts. Thanks.

[Q] Go for Motox X (2nd gen) ? - Help me choose!

We are on AT&T US. Time to replace both our aging smart phones. I am planning to upgrade on th AT&T NEXT plan.
ANY reason to stay away from the Moto-X second generation? My wife wants a very good camera. What would you suggest?
What other phone would you guys recommend? (We don't want the huge Note like phones)
We are also considering:
Samsung Galaxy S5
Lg G3
HTC M8.
Appreciate any comments, we want to pick one up at bestbuy this weekend!
I had the LG G3 (T-Mobile) and now the moto X. The moto X is just like my nexus 5 was, but better with all the hands free stuff.
I did not like the G3 as I felt it stuttered too much when using it. I will say this though, the G3 had an amazing camera, much better than my moto X.

Moto X 2014 for LG G3

You guys know alot about phones...would it be a good deal to trade a moto x 2014 for a lg g3? thanks
NO. I left a G3 for the 2014 moto X and am much happier. Same battery life (not capacity) and a much more fluid experience. The LG G3 lagged a lot and got hot really fast. It also could not handle games as simple as sonic dash without dropping frames. STAY AWAY!
I second this. Came from the G3 to the moto x. The only two things I miss are the camera and the standyby battery life
My daughter has the G3. I have the vrz moto x coming from the note 3. Root or no root I love the moto x. G3 is nice but from a user experience the moto x rocks
Only if you're the one who will walk away with the Moto X...
Had G3 myself, terrible lag and software. Went to note 4, but can't take the lock bootloader and lack of root.

Tough choice.
Software: Moto
Hardware: G3 (expandable memory, removable battery, QHD screen, camera)
I had the G3 and didn't plague from the problems people are yapping about. I love the almost bezel-less display. Dim the brightness on the moto x and looks atrocious. Super turn off. Hands down the G3 has a better display and bigger display in a surprisingly small package compared to the other OEM's in its size.
What sold me on the moto x was the personalized experience. I wish apple would adopt the same concept with the custom paint job and finish.
The moto is aesthetically pleasing.
Its a toss up really. You wouldn't be unhappy thats for sure.
I had a G3 (well 3 different G3's F400, D850 and the F460) from launch last year until 3 weeks ago when I sold my last one. I've been using Mt Nexus 6 for a while and bought my wife the Moto X. I loved the G3 because of its excellent camera and compact size yet large screen. The G3 is a great phone, I didn't have any heating issues on mine but I didn't like the LG ui. I realized that I prefer stock android over other ui's. The back buttons are a nice touch and so is the removable battery/SD slot.
Since using the Moto X I was pleasantly surprised sigh how well it preformed. It's much faster stock than any of my G3's were. Updates are hit and miss on the LG. My korean ones would get updates fast but my ATT one was left in the dark the whole time I had it. The Moto voice and display are a big plus in the X's favor. Overall it's just preference but if I had to choose between them I would buy the Moto

General question for users of XT1096 Verizon.

I am in a holding pattern for a new phone as I want to wait for the 820 SoC phones later next year. In the mean time I figure I would get a used phone that can keep me busy. I'm basically looking for something that is stable and with good custom ROM support (as I like to play around). I've narrowed it down to the Moto X 2014 and the LG G3 (verizon versions). I just got Moto G's for my youngsters and I remembered how much I liked the Moto phones. The LG G3 seems to have more official ROM support but I am put off by it's size (5.5) whereas the 5.0-5.2" screens are my sweet spot. I also generally tend to prefer AMOLED screens to IPS.
So my questions is basically how do XT1096 owners feel about their phones and the ROM support? I would particularly like to hear from anyone that has also owned the LG G3.
Thank you

I purchased an used Moto X 2014 XT1096 to replace my original Moto X 2013 Developers Edition. I can't speak for the custom ROM availability for the LG G3 but you can check the two developement sections in the Moto X 2014 forum to see what there are. I know there are a few for the XT1096 but not as many as for the other variants (XT1095/1092/etc.). I am going to try CM13 soon on mine. If you really want to play with ROMs then I would go for one of the more popular phones with better custom ROM support.
I did not answer your questions regarding custom ROMs as I tend to stick with the stock ROM and use other enhancements like Xposed modules or a custom launcher. I also like to use the Moto features which may not be available in other custom ROMs. I do plan to at least try CM13 though.
To be able to install ROMs make sure that you purchase a Moto X 2014 that is already bootloader unlocked. If you can't find one then make sure you purchase one that is on 5.0 or earlier version of the OS. Version 5.1 and later cannot be bootloader unlocked. I purchased mine on SWAPPA.
I bought a used 1096 from eBay 3 weeks ago. Been a Samsung owner all of my Android life, I got tired of Samsung's slow updates. I like this phone, have CM13 on it and runs great. Rooting is a little tricky, used mofo to root and sunshine to bootloader unlock
