Note 9 India news, infos - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

So starting first thread of Note9
Guys please post latest info about availability of Note 9 Specifically in India
Currently in India only Pre-registration (Interest) started hopefully pre-book should start soon after lauching (9thAug18)
So got the device demo and checked following things
1.OEM Unlock available out of box on indian version
2.unfortunately infinity WP with animation while unlock is removed. Though I have checked sources on dump framework and it's partially removed so I still have hope for custom rom users
3.A/B seamless updates I don't found
4.treble support enabled
5.Dolby no much different from s9+ (I felt same like on my N8 ported rom)
6.Spen have option long press - open camera
While with single press some action according app opened
Camera - take picture
Gallery - next, double click previous
Same with music tracks
7.I couldn't confirm but according dealer, both SIM will work with LTE

Note 9 coming with Gear S3 for 4k extra ?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

I have a Note 8 and interested in what Samsung will offer to those wishing to upgrade. If the cost of the Note 9 works out to under 30k, after the buyback and cashbacks, I will surely be tempted to upgrade!

128 gb or 512 gb
What do you guys suggest......Is it worth spending 17k extra for 384 GB storage and 2 GB RAM.........
I am currently using S7 edge 128 GB version and have only 8-10 GB free on internal storage. If given an option, would want to keep max internal memory to avoid deleting any photos/videos from phone and get into hassles of managing it on memory card, but is paying extra 17k worth it. I am inclined towards going for 512 GB, Others ??

Unless you are rooted with TWRP, having extra space as internal storage is always pain. If anytime you need to factory reset on stock non rooted, you gonna lose everything, and we never know when device mess up and need to do factory reset. I prefer to have Ext SD to keep static data without bothering losing it (Though ext sd can corrupt but no nothing is forever lol !)
I won't pay extra for just storage. RAM I believe also enough with 128GB

Rooting from day 1 or as and when root is available is obvious. And i had a lot of memory cards going kaput. Logically it doesn't make sense to pay 17k for storage, but emotionally inclined towards 512 GB

Preorder offers currently, are as as lame as S9/S9+ offers when first launched. Within a few weeks it'll be much more attractive for sure.

S9 plus preorder offer was with 6k cashback(some credit cards/payTM) with no additional offer. Within weeks it became 9k cashback and later offered with one time screen replacement and 9k cashback.
...
Till s8/s8+, the offers included cashback, goodies and screen replacement offers. B4 S6 it was with steep price cuts almost every month..... Samsung's strategy.

Yup, for Note 8 it was. Unfortunately not with Note 9 now. It irks with such a massive screen.

I have pre booked midnight black 128gb
Probably will get on 19th

I currently have note 8. I'm thinking of pre booking midnight black note 9 (512 gb/8 gb). Can't decide if I should do it now (Samsung website) or wait for offline pre booking/availability through Samsung smartcafe.

Already started offline, I have prebooked with shop only

Pre-booked ocean blue 128gb from Samsung website, just wondering if I'll be able to use it with 2017 gear vr. Anyone has any idea if it'll be possible?

I checked the upgrade option in the My Galaxy app and I am getting a quote of Rs 38550 for my Note 8. This includes the Rs 6000 exchange bonus. So the 128GB Note 9 will work out to 29350.
Now the big question -- is it worth it?
Also, is 38,550 a good price for a one year old Note 8 without any scratches or issues? Or will I get a better price if I sell it directly to some shop or on Cashify?

Very much subjective. If we think, we are losing almost half amount for one year old device when we selling it but that's also true, we don't get more money than this. Here two things are important
1.If you look for budget, think your self what you are getting extra with 30K? If you convince yourself then go for it else leave.
2.No issue of budget and you are crazy, then go for it.

Wish option was there to buy gear s3 Frontier...

Hello guys, I'm planning to buy note 9 in exchange of my 4 months old S9 plus 128 GB version. My galaxy app is showing me an exchange price of 47,750. Should I go for it? It Will be my first note device bdw ?
Though it has same 9810 exynos processor as s9+ can I expect something different? Would've loved SD 845 instead.

Are we getting gear s3 or gear sport for 4999? Yesterday it was s3 but today it is showing gear sport. Am I missing something?

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Galaxy Note 3

Covered Design, Features, What was removed as well as added and a Speed Test. Is it worth the jump from the Note 3 to the Note 4?
After using the Note 3 as my main device for a year then getting the Note 4, I like to say that there is a difference and it feels refreshed. With the 1440p Display, New Touch Wiz Ui, and a few new features. Now I did notice that there are somethings missing from the Note 4 that the Note 3 had. There are also something that have been moved and changed, like the Pen Window feature is now used with the Multi-Window feature on the Note 4. Spec wise there is not a massive push but its still a beast of a phone. Watch the Full comparison below and let me know what you think. Is it worth the jump from the Note 3 to the Note 4?
Mod Edit: closed as a duplicate.
I did not think it would be at first, but my phone whore personality came out.
The display, camera, video, metal, and going no contract lm there.
With tomorrow being the day, I doubt I will sleep much tonight. LOL
Dang being a tech freak sucks and is expensive!
Kicking Deuce on the Beast, Note 3
Am sticking with my 3. It has massive Dev support, so it's rooted and pretty much hacked to the max. I have a 128gb sd card in their, so have games on the sd card, music everything. I think had Samsung probably added more ram then maybe they would have had my money. I will however probably get the 4 for my wife though.

Most modern mid end to high end smartphones can handle 128GB MicroSDs with no problem.
I plan on getting a 128GB MicroSD for my Note 4
Btw, thanks OP for the info, it will help a lot of people. I came from a Galaxy S4 so the Note 4 is a huge jump for me loving this beast!
So far I miss few things from Note 3.
1. Cannot add app shortcuts at the bottom of lock screen. It is right now fixed to default camera app
2. There was "edit after capture", no longer there, have to swype down notification and click 'edit'
3. No software "Air Command" shortcuts available in the market yet
4. Qi receivers are hell expensive
5. Most irritating : no longer SD write access (searching root threads) -> Edit: Just rooted using chainfire's method, tripped KNOX, whatever!! I never had to root Note 3. Google deserves kick in the ass for disabling SD write.

Definately worth the upgrade if you can swallow the price (I buy sim free as don't want to be tied into a 2yr contract thanks!). I upgraded from the Note 3 and so many aspects have improved. The camera, battery, style and s pen are all better.
Is it worth the money? Compared to an IP6 definately. Compared to a OnePlus One which is under half the price....well the screen on that isn't as good - I mean sensitivity not pixels. The N4 is so much more complete but whether its worth the additional £350 is down to you personally.
If you have the Note 3 and don't have the cash to upgrade - don't worry about it. Not worth breaking the bank over! The N3 is a fine device and not far off as powerful.
The N4 has some very nice enhancements though, and you'll not be disappointed if you do buy it. Every note model I've owned (all of them) have impressed. I've tried other phones and always end up back on the note.

Note 4 is not worth abandoning the note 3..
UPDATE: After almost two weeks of use, I feel as if my Note 4 has more problems than my Note 3. It crashes and lags worst than what my Note 3 ever did on a bad day.

Anyone holding out hope for the 128gb version?

Even though the 128gb isn't confirmed I feel like it would be jumping the gun so to speak if I ordered the 64gb this early.
I have a 64gb card that's almost full and my internal 32gb at 18gb, it would be nice to get all that stuff on the 5 without having to pick and choose to what to put on.
Thoughts?
Who in their right mind going to hold out when something isn't even available?

I have a hard time believing Samsung would build 128gb S6s but not a 128gb Note 5.
It does exist, it was listed in the website, and it had its own product code. They just don't want to release it now for some reason. I'm getting a 64gb now and will probably use my remaining Jump upgrade to get a silver 128gb if it becomes available later.

I am holding out for the 128gb. I really think it will come. If not, I am probably the only Samsung fan who is willing to forgive them this time as long as they correct it next year. I have Samsung TVs, phones, and tablets. They have all been amazing and I am not going to let this 1 mistake make me jump ship.

Yeah I think I would forgive them. I'm going through my 96gb of stuff to see whats junk and whats not, maybe I could use 64gb total.
My note 3 has been an absolute workhorse with not a single issue except a little burn in on the status bar. I'm super pumped for a stellar camera in the Note 5.

Yea. I usually download movies which take up the most space obviously but move them to my external hard drive. To be honest this has made me start looking at cloud storage which is not at bad as I thought. $9.99 for 1 TB a month. Not too bad. I really think in 3 years or less no phone will offer a micro SD. However, the lack of a 128gb phone is unacceptable but forgivable...this time. I am also stoked for the gear s2. Looks promising. Just hoping it comes with Samsung pay.
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app
I doubt there will be one- at least not this year. Samsung is not going to see much business for a $1,000 device, but will for the 32GB and 64GB (which is high enough price). Apple gets away with it due to their ecosystem, but Android people can go to other devices and not lose their apps invested in, plus no iTunes or any other accessory purchased. Even if Samsung wanted to carriers would have to carry it which is even less likely. Soon the iPhone blitz will be hitting and carriers will focus resources on that. ironically rumors are floating of a 256GB model, but I would believe that when see it. Seems that will happen next year, or the next iPad release.

that was clearly a mistake..if they wanted to make one they would have announced it..the s6 never had a 128gb option
Samsung has clarified that there will be NO 128gb for the Note 5 nor the G6 Edge Plus.

Samsung strategy: Announce and release the Note 5 before iPhone 6s Announcement. Announce the 128gb Note5 / S6 edge+ on September 9th (same time as iPhone 6s announcement) Release September 14th (a week prior to iPhone 6s release date). I am waiting for the 128gb version but this is rather silly strategy to me. They did say there will be no 128GB so the early adopters would jump the gone on lower priced variations before selling the $900 128gb variation.

I would be so pissed if they announced the 128gb in September. That would be so damn childish of them. If that actually happened I would never give Samsung a dime ever again. I've already crossed their tablets off and their smartphones are hanging by a thread for me.

I hear you on on that. It just sucks that we as consumers can see how silly Samsung's approach is to potential buyers who really need that 128gb on board memory (non of that 100gb cloud storage for 2 years shenanigans)
Is the otg card reader not viable for any of you?
I personally got the 128gb s6 edge (original not the new plus) because I don't trust memory cards and the internal storage is faster. But since you all miss the memory card from the note 4 and note 3 why not get the otg.

Is it possible to store games' data in the external storage and then connect it to the phone using an OTG cable? Or the Data must be stored in the internal storage?
Also waiting for the 128gb option. I'm passed off, why put the 128gb option on the SGS6 and not the Larger device with the S-Pen???? It's dumb. Samsung blew this, I didn't care about the lack of SD card because I assumed the Note 5 would have 128gb option. I guess don't assume anything. I bought the SGS6 with 128gb of internal storage, love the phone. Have it set up Stock with Nova Launcher and icon paks. Getting all day battery out of mine. Love it.

What area are you from? I purchased a 128GB G920T from T-Mobile last week. They did not have any in stock at the local store, but they were able to ship one to me. Are you saying that this carrier no longer has the 128GB option or that it isn't in store anymore? Also, I would try swappa, I have had some relatively good success there. You're looking at about $600 for the phone if not purchasing it from the carrier though.

What's gonna suck is the S7 is coming early next year, likely April is what the T-Mobile people are telling me..
Now that's the reason why they should have include SD Card slots like in the future you need a higher speed and capacity card. I discovered an app called Filmic Pro coming to android. I was excited that to tell my brother to get 128 GB high speed SD card for film recording* but found out that its not possible. Adding card slots isn't a huge loss even though majority people don't use it since the device is still being bought by both crowds anyway.
*Note: I use Canon EOS 5d Mark II and I still wanted to try out new things.

What's your next device? Note 7 or something else?

I'm assuming a lot of you are like me, and have had the Note 4 close to 2 years now- close to paid for... wondering if anyone is considering getting a Note 7 or something else and why?
I was all excited about upgrading to a Note 7 but the limited research I've done based on the S7 is the bootloader will probably be locked meaning no root, no roms, etc... so now I'm not sure if I just stick it out a while long with my Note 4 or look elsewhere for another device? (nexus ###?)
Comments appreciated.

It's a pain in the butt shopping for where to go from the Note 4. Where, oh where, is it's successor? I so hate the idea of a non-replaceable battery. Maybe, if it wouldn't be too grueling to take my next "sealed" phone apart to replace the dang thing. The next big screen Nexus? Arrrgggghhhhhh!
Well if I didn't just post a lengthy reply to a similar question in the Intl. forum! (In fact I did; this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/moving-to-flagship-t3404126 my ramblings are the first post on page 4 ) Bullet points:
* I think the Note 4 is (still, 2 years in) a great device and I plan on keeping mine after making my last few payments. It will be a super fancy universal IR remote... ...among other things Definitely no shortage of ways to repurpose an old/extra Android device.
* I really hope the upcoming Nexus has expandable storage... I could see that happening this year with Google's "adoptable storage" (and other OEM's failing to... adopt it ) It's equally possible that I just really want that to happen. Either way, if it does, the larger screen version will be my next phone.
* The Note 7 looks beastly and if it doesn't have a locked bootloader I might go for it. The thing is, I'd really like to avoid buying anything from TMO aside from service... ya know, "vote with my wallet" against their abysmally late updates. I have a "new" Tab S2 TMO variant that's now the only model of that tablet that hasn't been updated to MM yet, making it as well as my N4 dead last (including other carriers) to receive the 10 month old OS. No way I can throw down up front for a $$$ N7 though, and I did do a couple of exchanges with the TMO insurance that were super easy, so bootloader unlocked = maybe, locked = not. a. chance. (not that I'd ever pay money for a "computer" that locks me out from self-administration, but particularly since I trust TMO 0% wrt updates and may need to handle that myself.)
* Option 3 = ??? Hoping to find the following: strong/friendly development community, expandable storage, >= 5.5" quality display, standard headphone port (IMO it's ridiculous that dropping this is becoming "a thing" w/o a superior replacement), and "good" battery life. Hopefully not asking too much in 2016, sure was in 2015.
Currently leaning towards a Nexus I suppose... not really in any rush to move on from the N4. Oh and definitely agree @steven.m - sealed battery = planned obsolescence but (clearly) any phone without a completely impractical metal unibody is simply not "PREMIUM" enough for... something something... of today! Note that a removable battery isn't even on my "wish list"... I was trying to make it realistic
I'll keep this N4 until it's dead. Then I'll most likely look at Nexus, HTC or Moto devices. About the only thing I'll miss is the WiFi calling.

Xiaomi Mi Max for me
Xiaomi Mi Max 6.5 inches of Android goodness, plus removable battery and sd card support. Samsung has iphoned their way out of my hands. If I wanted a iphone I would have bought a iphone, but such is life. Wife has s7 edge and she keeps telling me it is the worst phone she has ever owned. With that in house review why would I buy a Note 7?

With that in house review why would I buy a Note 7?

I'll have to look that model up- I don't know Xiaomi, but maybe I will get to know them. :highfive:
Edit: Hmmm.... love the size of the screen, but not QHD.... and battery not removable. Close, but I dunno.

Dang just did another spec search and you are right http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_max-8057.php says non-removable battery. What is up with that, cheaper to produce?

Yes, and the capacity can be battery capacity can be maximised this way since they don't have to make provisions for the battery to be removed.
I think I'm done with Samsung for now. Waiting for the Note 4 MM update this long and the fact that they basically abandoned the Galaxy Tab Pro six months after they released it have really turned me off.
I think I'll be trying one of the 'upstart' manufacturers. I've been considering the Huawei Mate line for a while now, but their software has always been a drawback (but at least they update it). Now I've been reading that they are making software and their EMUI skin a priority as they attempt to break into the US/NA market. I look forward to seeing what they've got. Also, T-Mobile specific versions of any phone seem to not get nearly as much development, which is understandable. But I think I'll get an unlocked international phone next time.
I will be keeping my Note 4 (just like I still have my Note 3) for use with the virtual reality headset that I will be getting. It still has enough processing power and a very good screen resolution for that type of activity.
I'm thinking about the zenfone 3 ultra 6.8inch monster lol
The note 7 isn't on my radar, I too am think of going with a nexus if it has a memory card slot but all of this won't be for a while as I just traded in my s7 ( which was part of bogo ) and got my note 4 back that I jumped about 6 months ago. I missed it so much I will keep it for ever, even after its paid off. I also have the s7 edge which just became rootable so I might play with it for a while but it's my work phone and I have until November before I can jump again but it won't be a Sammy phone. I don't really like the s7 edge as those edges are a real nightmare unless you have a case on it you will have accidental touches that will drive you crazy. I'll hold on to my note 4 until next year and then start looking.
I didn't realize the s7 had been rooted

I have the Honor 5x which is from Huawei also., bought it a few months to test, for $200 premium looking, metal casing, 2 sim slots and external sd... but no removable battery and we are supposed to get MM any day now..
but yes I think I want a google phone, but it has to have external sd, maybe I can deal with non removable battery, but who knows. and they better start lowering prices of phones, they would sell more and sell every year selling at about $500.. that's just me thinking out load.. :silly:
because I have my father in law had the S2 very outdated and giving him problems.., so off went my note 3 which was my sons, so he plays with it,
I started with HTC, had almost every single phone till the M7, then moved to Samsung from S2, S3, Note 2, 3, 4.. and on the Notes had 2 of each, for me and my wife.. also with the M7.. I have paid to much on phones and then they don't take care of the updates which the dev do it better than Samsung is very disappointing since manufacturing them is really under $200 coming from the take downs of the devices.. way to much profit, then they expect us, to buy new phones every year...
try to return a new phone u buy in T-Mobile, they offer u half of less after 3 or 4 months then they sell it back as certified phones for double than what they paid getting it back from you... really sucks..
remember a phone is for making phone calls......
I have a pc, laptop,
2 tablets Samsung as well, and they stop with the updates after a year. u get lucky maybe give it a year 2 or 3 months...
super surprised about this MM update on our phones giving that we are almost on our 2 year.. very surprised, guess they are trying to say we will support them longer... remember Note 4 came with KitKat, then Lollipop, and now MM... wow....
darn even apple updates the phones till the older phones can't except the updates to slowing it down or not enough space left..
opps rambling, let me stop... haha
This is a good question I guess it depends on if note 7 comes with 820 or something better I won't buy a 820 phone there are cheaper options with same processor. Im thinking Nexus. But if note 7 has 4000mah battery it may get my money. My last 2 Samsung phones have had bad gps

I am getting to the point where I can no longer justify spending $650-700 on a phone. You're right, there are so many decent options now for half the price.
I'm waiting to see what the Nexus phone phones are like this year. I'm hoping they'll have a nice premium phone this year. The 6P was a nice start. HTC may kick it up another notch. Rumors are that Google wants a phone that will directly compete with the iPhone. Well see if that happens. I've had only Samsung smartphones (Galaxy S, Note 2, note 4, galaxy light). It's time for something different
Jeez the note 7 is going to be almost 1000.

HTC makes the best Nexus phones imo.
I might get the Moto G4 Plus

Agreed... but then again, do I have enough time to monkey around with ROMs again? Realistically - no. If I get an Android device again, I'm just going to have to get the latest Nexus. I'm tired of TW and trying to hack things to make them behave like I want them to...( I'm looking at you NFC icon ).

was the phone worth the price?

I just got it through verizon. I could of bought it from ebay new for 800 something but paying 40 something a month for 24 months is just better for me at the time being even though its like 200 more. I absolutely love it! it really is a perfect phone at this point of time. I only got the 128 gb version. does the verizon version have roms and stuff? would you?
got the blue 128GB version from ATT
not a single regret will use for at least 4 years +
not looking to custom rom or even root it not even dev mode is enabled
I'm sick and tired of that stuff tbh ^^^ it just all werks now
Got a Black 128 N960FD, bought it outright.
It's certainly worth the money if you ask me, imo best android phone of 2018.
Would love to have the option to install a custom ROM, obviously it's possible on the N960FD but Samsung illegally voids the warranty if you do, so won't be happening for a while.
Yes, it's worth the money. True flagship not a crippled one.
Display is probably the best in the market with curved QHD+
Stereo speakers. OS liking is subjective but I like how Samsung has improved over the years from S3(my first flagship phone) with no lags.
Only downside coming to N9 from OnePlus is the charging time. It takes more than an hour to charge completely.
I got it for 700$ so I'm happy
56k INR and am not complaining
I got my blue 512GB for £949 direct from Samsung because of the mess around got £150 off which for me was brilliant. I only pay about £35 a month for it for 24months on the upgrade programme which definitely works out great no interest and then only have an £8 sim only deal. When I get round to trying to sell my oneplus 5 and put that towards the phone it should drop to about 25 a month aswell. I do feel it's a great phone. I've never really tried Samsung before. Charging is a pain plus I'm using wireless charge when ever I do and there have been 2 or 3 times already when I haven't placed it on my wireless dock properly so it's not charged. And I dont think battery life is what its cracked up to be tbh. But overall it's a very nice phone.
I love this device, BUT, if I hadn't of got 20% off the price, there is NO WAY I would of paid the full price. In my opinion, it is definitely not worth the stupid amount of money they are charging.
It's worth every penny! You just don't get such a complete package anywhere else. Pretty much no compromises. It felt like a decent upgrade from the Note8 which was excellent too. It's very significant, even though it's only an incremental upgrade! This phone just has everything I ask for in a smartphone. Signed my new work contract with the S Pen! How cool is that?!
I have the 128GB variant but I also have my 128GB Samsung MicroSD Card from my Note8, so I can't complain about storage!
Pre-Ordered it with EE for £68 / month with 60GB of Data and unlimited everything. Got Apple music for 6 months with it to replace my £10/month of Spotify or Google Play, so It's like £58 for the first 6 months.
Also, I found Apple Music better than both!
I paid about $600 (net cost after selling my Note8 on Swappa), and got a free AKG NC BT headset, free Dex station, free wireless Duo charger, and a free Note9 adapter for my previous Note8 GearVR. I'm happy with that combination. No complaints about the phone.
I've had this thing for two days now and yes, it is the only $1000 phone that actually justifies its price. Design, features, battery, spen, beautiful screen and stellar performance. Tried the iPhone Xs max for a couple of days and got bored with it the first 15 minutes. This phone is amazing. Not regretting any penny spent on it. Got it through tmobile for zero $ down at $850. Not bad. Gonna keep it for a while.

Blimey, that sounds awesome. I wish our carriers would offer that many bundles here in the UK.

I've got to admit I'm not bothered about modding it in any way. Touchwiz used to be so bad on older phones but now I think it's a dream
Worth the money? Heck yes.
I traded in my S9 with TMO jump, 0 down. Never owned a real flagship phone like the Note 9. Hands down best performance, speed, battery life I've ever had on any phone.
Once you go midnight black, you never go back!
Would you guys switch from a Note 8 to a Note 9? Debating since I like having the more internal storage.

Yeah it is worth it for more storage and a bigger battery
Was at first hesitant about upgrading from the note 8. After having done it, I'm pleased with the decision.
Coming from a Note 8 I'm happy. I gave my wife the Note 8 and traded her S8+ in that had quite a bad pink hue to the screen. I got the phone for $765 after taxes and trade in. This is the best bang for the buck for what's out there and no notch.

I upgraded from N8 to N9. No regrets here. It's not really that much of an upgrade. Day to day performance, you won't notice any difference. The camera is improved, and the Bluetooth S-Pen is cool. I actually like how the new pen feels in my hand. It's just a hair thicker. And I know EVERYONE had the Deep Ocean Blue color, but I love it. Absolutely beautiful color. And I personally like the contrasting yellow pen.
I paid $700 for mine on eBay. T-Mobile version. Barely used. It still had the factory plastic on the frame! And the original owner put a clear protective skin on the back and had a screen protector on it. So it was perfect. All new unused accessories and a Speck Grip case. It was a great deal!!

I kept my Note 8 as my backup phone, and sold my Pixel 2 XL.
