Need Help getting the Grubhub and Uber Eats restaurant manager apks - Off-topic

So this seemed as good a place as any to post this and hope someone can help. One of my IT customers had a POS system that is running on an android operating system. He asked me if there was a way to get the restaurant management apps that are on his tablets (also android) to work on the android terminal so he can throw the extra tablets out. He has 1 tablet for Grub Hub, 1 for Uber Eats, and 1 for Door Dash. Door dash had their app in the play store, so that was easy to install. Grub Hub and Uber Eats doesn't put their restaurant manager apps in the play store (not to be confused with their ordering or delivery apps). I called them and their generic support team didn't know how to get the app and recommend just using the website.
Basically I'm hoping that there is some awesome android power user out there that also that might know how to get those APK's. I was going to try to root the tablets that were sent to my customer but both Grub Hub and Uber Eats has some kind of kiosk MDM software blocking everything.
Thanks!

Whaa?
So, you are asking about how to get those apps (APKs) which are installed?
Can you install apps, say Mixplorer? You can copy apps using it.
Also, if you can enable usb debugging (if it doesn't show up then clear data of the Settings app) then root it with kingroot via pc but then you may get into trouble imho.

Workaround for paid apps?

Hello,
I live in Poland and we still can't buy paid android apps, which really p*sses me off. Is there an alternative way to buy from the market? I don't want to use pirated software.
Pretty sure if you email the Dec of app you want they will work something out with you. Also try market enabler

Root phone, install Market Enabler which will allow your phone to pretend that it is in a different market (ie one with paid apps available). Works great. I am in Canada, which does not have paid apps yet, and use it to buy apps. This was the main reason I rooted my phone.
I live in Norway and we don't have access to paid apps yet.
I did install Market Enabler, and got access, but when I'm buying, after I've input credicard information, nothing happens. The phone tries to connect and eventually I get an errormessage that a connection could not be etablished (or something in that effect)
I chose Market Enabler 3 (beta) as I'm using a Hero ROM. (Old version does not work), and I choose o2 (de) as provider.
Any tips?
tried using Slideme, it is an alternative market that works outside of the android market.
Thanks for the replies! I rooted my phone finally (using flashrec) and by the way updated to some hero ROM (myhero-1.1.1 to be exact) and used Market Enabler. Works really well so far, I haven't had time to try to actually purchase anything yet, but I can see paid apps now.
I love the HTC Sense look and feel, but I there are some bugs that weren't present in the vanilla magic (skippy music, worse jabber integration, etc).
It's amazing how easy it is to root and flash your phone these days, I remember last time I was thinking about it the howto scared the hell out of me. And I'm a developer (just a lazy one).
Just purchased my frist app on Android Market
There was one issue, maybe this will help someone: When I entered my credit card details on my phone it didn't work - there was some kind of server error. I had to go to google checkout using browser on my computer, enter my cc details and then I was able to buy apps off android market.

Try setting up your Google checkout account using a PC based browser. Once you do that you should only be shown the price and have to confirm to buy.
That worked for me.

[Q] Autodesk Sketch Book Mobile (-not- the Express version )

So, I tried out Autodesks's Sketch Book Express - all good, love it. I then bought the non-express version on my G2 - and it brings a -lot- to the plate, and I'm semi-desperate to get it onto the NC, which seems like a device made for it from the ground up.
But, getting no love. I'm rooted & z4rooted, so superuser's doing its thing. Made a titanium backup of app + data, moved that backup over to the NC, restored it - and on app startup, I get a license error. It seems to want an internet connection - connected via wifi, tried again (on three different connections, even!), still get the license error.
Obviously, there's no market access yet. And it's not on slideme or andappwhateverthatsitewas.
Is there any solution to this? I'm guessing not, but never hurts to ask. Seriously, though - this app was made for this device, so this is killing me </hyperbole>.
I did the same thing... bought the full version on my Droid to transfer, but the application license locked itself to my Droid :0(
I'd be interested in any fix.
a quick google search reveals that mobilism has a version up. Since you folks already payed for it, i do not see any harm in using this version. (the regular page did not load, but google cache has a copy of it.)
UPDATE: Confirmed working. *purchasing my copy now*
I think you can use Amazon Appstore, it only costs $0.99 now.

YouTube kids on Fire 5th Gen?

Sorry but I'm a total newbie with Kindle Fire tablets. I got my daughter this for Christmas and was setting it up for her so it's ready to go.
It never even crossed my mind that YouTube kids wouldn't be available. Now that I know it isn't, I'm hoping there is a way I can side load it. I uploaded the apk to Amazon Drive, downloaded it to the fire and it says it needs Google services.
Any help is really appreciated!

Discussion thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ama...google-play-store-fire-t3486603?tag=823814-20
Worked flawlessly. THANKS!
I was able to install the Google play store and install KidsYoutube, but i can't add it to the FreeTime account because it doesn't come up in the app list under managed apps. Any advice? I assume this is a permissions issue because other apps (including the google play store) don't come up either, only apps downloaded through the Amazon AppStore
Yes, I am also interested in trying to get google apps over to the freetime kids side. Is there a way to force it over or bypass the permissions issue? My daughter loves the kids tablet and it works beautifully but she still steals my phone for youtube kids which is the best standalone kids app out there. She loves it and cant have it on the freetime side of the tablet.

Any luck on this? I want to get YouTube kids on my daughter's 5th gen and this news makes me sad
How old are your kids?
I have a 4 and a 6yo boys, who both have a Kindle kid edition since Christmas 2015. When I first turned them on, I was extremely disappointed that the entire tablet was Amazon centered. Of course a quick look at XDA and both tablets were rooted running CM12 within minutes.
We of course did lose the whole "freetime" interface, which has only 12 months of free content, but figured that it would teach them Android, and maybe even make them smarter. Between Netflix, Youtube and youtube kids there was no real loss in not having freetime installed.
In order to block content, simply install Nova launcher, and hide apps that aren't kids related, and setup the home screen to be kid friendly (bigger icons, no google search bar, home button to open app drawer etc).
Now I can tell you that my 6yo totally mastered Android, creates app shortcuts, change backgrounds, downloads games etc. My 4yo can navigate Android comfortably, start apps he likes, search for videos on YTK and Netflix.
I feel that it challenged them to learn the OS as is, without sheltering them in a tailored made easy kid interface.
Possible solution found

I found this today. I wont have time to test it out until tomorrow though because my daughter and her tablet are at the ex's today. If you try it and it works let me know.

Long story short, it works! The parts they don't tell you, you'll need to also install all the google services on the freetime side to get the app to work. I figured that out after 10 minutes of waiting for that to update (i have it installed on the main account as well that's why i didn't put 2 and 2 together right away). I used the same method that was linked earlier in this thread.
After I got YT Kids setup on my freetime side I ran into an issue of not letting me sign in to my account. The screen would come up to add account, but then would go right back into the app. To get around this I also installed google play store on the freetime side. once that was logged in YT kids linked and it was done.
To install all that extra crap, use the same method as you will to install the YT Kids app.
It's not a pretty solution, but it works!

Take the 4 apk files (the google framework and playstore) and put them on the root of the sd card. Use a computer to do that. When I was trying to copy from internal memory to sd card i kept getting errors.
Once the 4 files are on the root of sd card, shove it back in the tablet, then go into freetime, launch the file explorer that's recommended in the walkthrough and install each one.
You may need to wait after first boot like 10 minutes for whatever apps you have installed on that sd card to rebuild. That happened to me when i put the sd card in, even though the tablet was off
fastamx79 -- I am having trouble installing part 3. Google Play Services 10.2.98 (240-146496160)--
It states app is not installed - when trying to install (the google framework and playstore) on freetime side-- it will not install
This is so frustrating -- please help

Actually just registered finally so I could reply to this. I wrestled with this a bunch over Christmas - the key to doing this is an app in the Amazon Kindle App Store called GoToApp (I used the free demo version). Since it is in said store, you can assign it to your child account via the Freetime app on the parent side. I also also temporarily added a file manager to the child account as well - I used ES File Manager, which is also free and in Amazon's App Store, though I believe any file manager would work. Since they are now assigned to your child account, they should show up on the carousel in FreeTime mode like any other app . I then loaded the 4 APK files needed for Google Play and the YouTube kids APK onto an SD card. You then go into the child account and install the apps, using the file manager to get into the SD card. Once done, go into GoToApp - this app is essentially a launcher, and you can add YouTube Kids into it and let them launch the YouTube Kids App from within GoToApp. Both my older and younger sons very quickly learned that essentially GoToApp's icon = YouTube now.
A few other notes on this, however- if your kid is smart, they can use GoToApp for other things. I had manually installed a file manager and he figured out how to unhide it in GoToApp and then went to town. For my 3-year-old this was obviously a non-issue, and it has worked fine for him.
Also, the YouTube Kids app is very, very finicky when trying to get it installed. I found a specific version that worked when nothing else did. I don't know that version off hand, but can dig it up later if needed. I essentially just kept going back versions via APKMirror until I found one that worked (though once installed I never have had to update it, and it still works fine). I also found that installing the Play framework seemed to work best if I installed it only on the kid account and not the parent account - one tablet I had installed it on my account first, and then probably wiped it a dozen times overall before it worked decently. Only installing it on the parent account would give errors when it was then run via the kid account, and I had problems when I installed it on both. Once I figured out the way to do it, the other tablet was fine; I didn't have any problem with that tablet.
In the end, though, I ended up reverting back to a normal kid account for the older child - the combination of the backdoor combined with a lessened amount of parental controls led to him getting a little too into it some nights. I think that both of those issues are really more my fault more than anything else, especially the latter. What we did end up doing was putting YouTube Kids in the parent account and locking down as much as we could (can't open the Play Store or Settings without a PIN and so forth), and he now has to ask to watch (instead of being let loose with it) and is at least semi-supervised now. This also let me take better advantage of the FreeTime controls. On the other hand, the younger one still has this GoToApp setup 9 months later, and it has worked well for him with no problems to speak of.
Anyway, novel of a post, but if rather have someone learn from the mistakes I made and not have to put hours into it like I did.
EDIT: For some reason I thought that the above comment was second-to-last without any reply to it. Oh well, hopefully this helps someone.

Might try Google Play Services 10.2.98 (230-146496160) instead - this is, I believe, the version I installed on my kids' tablets (one 2015 Kindle Fire 7" and one late 2016 Kindle Fire HD 8", if memory serves). I actually just did a wipe/reinstall on the HD tablet last week and the same file worked for me on the parent side at least (didn't reinstall on the kid account though).
Safe Vision app is similar to YouTube Kids
You can try Safe Vision app which is similar to YouTube Kids. Just search for 'Safe Vision' on Amazon App Store.
Disclosure: I am developer of this app.

Raspberry Pi 3 and Android Things - How do I add the Play Store app?

Hello,
I installed Android Things IoT for Raspberry Pi 3 from:
developer.android.com/things/hardware/raspberrypi.html
This is an amazing system that I can add many app to, and I can use GPIO too, for starters, you need to use the adb tool, but I've installed a launcher (link below) and now I can see all the screens as a Device Android normal.
w w w .apkmirror.com/apk/teslacoil-software/nova-launcher/nova-launcher-5-0-3-release/nova-launcher-5-0-3-android-apk-download/
But the Google Play Store that I installed does not work, I believe some app is missing and this is bad for me, I am not able to know which app I have to install.
You can help?
Would it be possible to make an image with the application needed to run the Play Store?
Thank you!

I haven't done this yet, but I'm curious if it's like adding Google to fire tablets:
Google Account Manager
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-...count-manager/*
Google Services Framework
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-...ces-framework/
Google Play Services
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-...play-services/
Google Play Store
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-...le-play-store/
Just thinking out loud. Someone more knowledgeable should chime in.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I don't have the link, but I recall comming across something where they used GAPPS pico to install the Playstore.
https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/wiki/Pico-Package
As far as I can tell, this should install the PlayStore, but I think you need to use the GAPPS install script to copy the apps onto the SD card, then put it back in the RP I
BTW. I installed the Android Things RPI image a few days ago, but as you noted, it doesnt have a launcher, so its not possible to do anything, apart from display the popup about the hardware details
---------- Post added at 08:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 AM ----------
BTW.
I tried installing the Nova package, and can now see the settings app.
I tried enabling the developer options but when I try to go into them, the settings app keeps crashing.
I presume this is not something that Google envisioned people doing with this build of android
Edit 2.
The display is very slow. I presume this is because the GPU is not being used.
Unless there was eventually a build of Android Things for RPI that used the GPU, its not going to be a particularly usable system in conventional terms.
Edit 3.
You may like to try http://konstakang.com/devices/rpi3/ instead

get rid of andriod spyware

hello with the new way of these phones andriod and others plus spyware .im wondering how do i know what apps samsung etc are spying on my phone maybe uploading my numbers and other infor without me knowing any of you guys got any idea whats the best way to stop it. tbh i hate even google assist even turning on by itself even when i diable it
Hello, first of all, please write in easily readable sentences, that way more people are going to help you.
Second, it is important to be and stay suspicious of the software you use, especially with android. But you shouldn't be worried too much as most of the data that is sent from your phone isn't sent with "evil intentions" or anything like that, it is often rather aggressive diagnostics.
Warning! The following paragraphs are filled with very radical means of removing suspected spyware! Almost all of these require root and knowledge in modding your Android! Beware!
As to how you can spot "spyware" or suspected spyware, there isn't one easy way.
First of all, you could use a custom ROM, so that your system is more open source and there isn't any suspected spyware (or any "ware" at all) from Samsung.
To go one step further, you could try to live without Google services:
Use a different search engine, for example DuckDuckGo or any other really
Use Firefox or any non-Chromium browser
Instead of using opengapps to install Google Play Services (when you install a custom ROM) you could use the replacement project "microG" (microg.org).
Get as many apps as you can from Open source app stores (F-Droid)
Don't use the official Play Store unless you really have to - it is a power hungry data collecting app (that can theoretically install any app without asking, just like the Google Play Services or any other /system/priv-app app with proper permissions) - Alternative for installing Play Store apps: Aurora Store
Replace Google Maps with OpenStreetMap (OSMand)
Use a anonymous YouTube client, for example NewPipe
etc.
These are of course only suggestions, I don't recommend doing them all at once, but if you really don't want any unnecessary data sent from your phone, these are the first steps.
For actually seeing which apps send what data you could either analyze the app bytecode with App Warden or look at all detailed permissions with AppOpsX.
Methods to neutralize spyware are rejecting the permission for the app to use internet access or even run in the background, disabling the suspected app or removing it with system app removers.
Be very careful with actually disabling or removing system apps! Many system apps are needed for the system to work and one can easily misjudge an app by its description and diagnostics! Before disabling an app you should research whether anyone else knows anything about the app and only remove it if you are really sure about it. You have been warned.
