Dexing Note 9 to Surface Pro 2017 - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Please guide and share your ideas. If I connect Note 9 with Surface Pro using a USB-C to Mini Display Port cable, will it work?

well usually display ports are outputs(of course except on capture cards)..so out to out obvisouly wont work on regular devices. Unless the surface has the ability to input? just wonder how device manages switching between an output and an input... not even going to google it as this is very highly improbable.

wow lesson learned. microsoft have been really putting out incredible laptops/tablets and accessories recently. a bit costly but i think well worth it.
to OP: my apologies!
but wow this really opens up some doors.. ive been raving about laptops or tablets acting as a monitor.

Surface hub and surface pro are totally different products (afaik). I own surface pro. The only way to display my note content on surface pro is mirroring via wifi (not wired).

So the surface hub is indeed a totally different device. It's actually a whiteboard for presentations and such. Probably even gaming could be done on it. We sometimes bring a PS4 or XBOX to work and hook it up to our Canon and Sharp ones.

Nexus 7 tv out?

Do they sell an Hdmi cable that is compatible with this tab so I can connect it to my tv?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Last I read, the Nexus 7 didn't have MHL capabilities.
I believe this function was going to be added through the use of Nexus Q & Google TV systems. However that's officially on the back burner.

Have a look at the video in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874757
I am not sure if u can stream via hdmi fom nexus to TV, but if it is possible this is the cable u would need.
HDMI to Micro Type D
Not mhl compatible, but maybe a future dock will have that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
the future dock would still require the tablet to be mhl capable, therefore no, there is no and will be no way to directly plug the tablet into a television, what there is hope for is streaming via a nexus q device.
Hey folks, I'm new here. Have been lurking a bit.
I've been bugging Nexus support staff about features/upcoming features.. as I'd expected, they're pretty hush-hush
One guy even fibbed to me, saying that a USB OTG cable and peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, usb drives.. will not work with the Nexus, even if I unlock it. Maybe he just didn't know any better.
Anyhow, I love this little device, but the lack of tv-out in the form of display mirroring is flat-out pissing me off.
I'm not experienced with coding for android devices by any means, but I did have an idea. (If Nvidia doesn't certify Nexus 7 for Miracast sometime in the near future.. it IS a tegra 3 device, so I'm hoping they do. It may be the solution to our problem.)
...This idea could be too fantastic to be a realistic possibility, but I thought it was worth a share..
What if an apk could "trick" the protocol for displaying video via wifi on droid devices?
What if the receiver could detect the incoming signal as a video file, and the app on the device could trick the nexus (or other non-MHL droid device) into treating the screen display as a video file?
Since the latency between displaying video on the Nexus and displaying it on a television via wifi isn't bad (from what I know), it COULD be practical enough for gaming, if it were done correctly.
TL;DR, the app would screen-capture the display, and send it to a receiver as if it were a compatible video file.
Am I just speaking fantasy-talk? Is this feasible? Thoughts?
The tegra3 has wifi streaming similar to apples airplay. The receivers just aren't out yet. Reading up that tmobiles SGIII will have a premium pack with some kind of aircard device that streams video over wifi for $99.
I think we are also waiting on Dlink. You can already do this with a rasberryPi for a good DYI solution.
I'm waiting for someone to make a box and a roku channel that captures streams on the network.

Hello.
No, this dock use a new MHL standard/protocol.
So it's compatible with SGS3 only and will be work with new Samsung devices like SGS3 Mini.
But it works for charging any devices and computers connection (like a simple microUSB cable).

No, SGS3 is thinner than GN2,so it fit in this dock.
Yes, SGS3 is much smaller than the SGN2, I meant that it won't fit perfectly and there will be some space around the phone. The only thing that will hold it there is the USB port. As a result, the possibility to break the USB port will be higher.

Yes, it does fit perfectly with the Note 2 without a cover. The USB connection is mobile so will angle to fit. I was using my 'naked' Note 2 with one this evening.
S3 doesn't work with it for anyone wondering that, but I think that will only be a matter of a firmware update.

That's just too bad!
If Samsung had made this compatible for Note I, they could made more people happier. Here's hoping some other manufacturers make something that will be compatible with Note I.
galaxy s3 and smart dock
Just wanted to update on this - appears that the European 4.1.2 release for the S3 includes compatibility with the Smart dock.
This is according to a German forum thread with a video demonstrating that the Polish firmware version is already working with it. I can't locate it right now, but can't post links anyway. For now, Samsung.de does display compatibility with the I9300 (s3).
It does remain to be seen if the dock will work with the NA or Japan versions on all carriers once this update is out in all regions (I also noticed this dock has disappeared from Samsung's US site, and from some retailers).

Best mouse for Asus Nexus 7?

I bought a bluetooth keyboard from ebay, specifically the keyboard aluminum keyboard that is tailor-made for my Asus Nexus 7.
Now I'm going to buy a bluetooth mouse that is small and configurable with my tablet with no problem, just like I did with my keyboard. I saw that most of the mouse for sale have a receiver coupled and require the use of the USB port, the model I'm looking for should be without this receiver and recognizable from stock Android.
Waiting for some information and / or links to purchase thank you all for the help and I extend my best wishes!
PS: I apologize for my English is difficult to understand, but I'm an Italian user I'm trying to understand quite well the English language and to write understandably.

Actually the mice with a receiver bundled with them are a plus. It means you can use them on your desktop computer or laptop that doesn't have Bluetooth and not just your Nexus.
I think what you're missing is that you just ignore the receiver when you pair it to your Nexus. Just be sure what you're buying is a Bluetooth mouse and not a wireless one. Some even use the same frequency as a Bluetooth signal but still aren't actual Bluetooth devices. Make sure it has that blue stylized B logo on it. You'll see the "uses Bluetooth frequency but is just wireless" ones on eBay and other cheap sites.

As sad as it is for me to say this I am going to have to go with the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. I have used both my Kensington and Microsoft blue tooth mice with my nexus 7, both work very well but the Microsoft is lighter and more responsive. The Microsoft mouse also has an extra key that functions as a back button in android.

Keep my Prime Keyboard dock?

Im assuming the answer will be a big NO but here goes any way. If I get a new Tf701, can it be used with the keyboard dock from my TF201 Transformer Prime?

Could you elaborate on what is "crappy" about it? The keyboard dock is something I've always liked about my Transformer Prime so if the 701 is not as good somehow, that could be a problem for me if I decided to get the 701. I kind of expected I'd have to get a model specific one though.
See thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509983 among others. The docking connection between the tablet and dock is just plainly badly designed. Unfortunately, it seems that it cannot be fixed by simply redesigning the dock - the connection on the tablet would need to be redesigned too. Personally I'm waiting to see what Asus do about this before buying a TF701 or its dock.
Many people like myself don't have dock issues. It works just fine.

Yeah, this is the big question. So far I haven't seen any evidence of the existence of good, non-flexing tablet/dock connections. I would love to, though. Then I might consider exchanging rather than returning.
Yup, no issues with the dock or any flexing. Really good and I'd say more usable than the TF700 as mine was a little flexible and moved on contact.
This one is much better but would still have preferred it to be aluminium.

Take a look at this video in which you can still see the extreme flex of the tablet/dock connection. It happens right around 12:45. Look closely and you can see the docked tablet itself tilt up and down several degrees without the hinge moving at all. This is the bad flex we've been experiencing. Is your dock like this, or is there very little play when you tilt the tablet before the hinge itself starts to move?
From what I see in the video, I think mine has less flex compared to the one in the video, although is also there for sure. But is I said, mine did not lose the connection so far. But I don't know whether this relates to the flex or whether it's a connector only type topic.

I loosened the 2 phillips screws where the connector is screwed into the dock.
Now it is less sensible because the connector will partially flex with the tablet.
But it is no solution.
Only one that will work is to elminate the flex completely by redesign of the dock. Look at a TF700 then you know how they should have done it.
Those of you that are saying you have no problem, are you saying that your docks don't have the flex problem as shown in these two videos?

Sadly OnePlus 3's USB Type-C port is only half way there since its just USB 2.0. If it would have been USB-version 3.1, screen output and all kinds of nice stuff would have been possible.
OP3 does NOT have MHL support either, so you are kinda stuck with this matter. Go wireless with Chromecast or get another phone if its important to you

FYI all displaylink adapters work with Android for screen mirroring. All you need is a usb to go cable and a displaylink capable usb to video adapter. As well as the app from the play store!
