Will you Root? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
Just wondering whos going to root their N9 and also what are your reasons for doing it?
I use my phone as main device without a laptop so will root so I don't need to keep doing ADB commands. I want to remove the Nav bar and also better adblock via adaway without using VPN.

No idea. Not sure to root or not. I've been trying to work out the pros and the cons.
My Samsung s7 was rooted

No. What is this 2010?

By rooting it, secret folder will be gone forever. Right? ?

Yes, everything Knox related will be disabled: Samsung Health, Secret Folder, Samsung Pay...

I rooted in the end as I cant keep using ADB.
Health works fine with a modified build prop. Pay and secure folder are gone for good but I've installed island, gallery vault and fingersecurity. They replace the features I used from the Samsung alternative.
Obviously not as secure as knox but I'm not too fussed

not planning to root this device
for adblock i use Adhell3 or disconnect pro
for ad-free youtube i use youtube vanced
and the samsung software has enough options & customizations built in...
also with rooting i ruin my warranty and knox (which i need for samsung pay, if that ever becomes available in belgium lol)
so i dont see why i need to root this device

In Europe, we conserve our waranty if our smartphone is rooted,
I've rooted all my device since my Nexus One,
I don't like to use Samsung Pay or other type of payment with a smartphone, so i decided to rooted this one too !
I like to use Xposed and Gravity box let me do what I want in my Note 9,
For AdBlock I prefer to use Adaway !

Oh so when I root my Note 9, my warranty will still be intact? Are you sure about this? I live in Belgium.

rooting trips knox and a tripped knox means no warranty. so not taking such warranty risks with this 1000 usd device

No man should ever have to go without Thot protection! ?

Root is a prerequisite
as long as there is no root for the exynos I will wait. A 1 TB device without backup is without any value
Reasons:
Remove Bloat
Backup and restore all data
No ads
Some tuning
Its my device I wand to do all that pleases me

erm there already is root available for exynos?

Is charging not affected after rooting? Custom ROMs on the s8+ meant you couldn't fully charge to 100%
Is it the same with the note 9?

Sorry, what kind of application is this "island"? what's it do? I'm well aware and use extensively the other two.
I'm on the fence re whether I should root my new N9.... I can see the benefits (Titanium Backup), but then the prospect of losing all that functionality (presumably forever, even unrooting won't help according to Dr.Ketan)... man it's a hard choice..

Check the description of the app on the Playstore, it's pretty well described there.

No reason to, I rooted my Tab S3 but regret it, it's actually made worse instead of better.

I won't.
I need Knox for disabling app and AdHell's firewall too.

[Q] S3 Mini - EAP-SIM Wifi Stopped Working with Android 4.1.2

EAP-SIM Wifi Stopped Working with Android 4.1.2, but it was ok with 4.1.1 in February.
Any Ideas how to fix this?
The phone is completely standard, un-rooted and un-flashed etc etc.
EAP-SIM is a type of Wifi Authentification - ive not seen it in the UK but its very popular around Europe, it basically lets your phone connect to the Wifi provided by the Mobile Network anywhere without a password or username.
Thanks a lot, any help appreciated, were desperate to get this working.

Samsung is working on a fix.
How do you know this? I emailed their technical advice line and they said they are aware of the problem but have no plans to fix it. Then closed the case.

Firmware Finder with Oreo 8.1

Hello, I'm currently on CLT-L29 8.1.0.107 (C636) with a lock bootloader and noticed that on Huawei Firmware Finder, 8.1.0.107c (C636) is available and approved for my IMEI. However, neither the proxy nor DNS method works for me. It had worked for me in a previous Huawei phone so I'm fairly certain I did the correct steps.
Does anyone know if Firmware Finder supports Oreo 8.1 at currently?
What is the alternative method to flash stock ROM for my phone? I tried looking online but got confused with various different methods involving creating a "dload" folder in the root folder of internal storage.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Bump - Help needed please ..
Use desktop version. Download and use HuRupdater.
hello guys i have the same probleme with CLT-L29 (C33) (french) firmware finder dont work with the two different methode proxy and dns and hurupdater work only with twrp and i remove it and i relock the bootloader to do ota update so any solution ? sorry for my english :RÉ:RÉ

Thanks, I'm fully stock with locked bootloader, i don't think HuRupdater can work for me right?
It has been said a lot of times... Firmware finder doesn't work with oreo 8.1 and as we know until now will never work... So the only way is to wait for OTA update or download the firmware from FF, unlock bootloader, root, install costum recovery and with hurupdater install rom....
So is better to wait OTA
i see a method with a dload folder to the internal storage with inside the file update.app we must push button volume up and down and power and try to install it like this i will test and i come back

Please do that because on a fully stock phone (no root, or unlocked bootloader) it seams to be the easiest way of installing a stock update. At least on paper. Please give as a review how did it go.

E-SIM Functionality on One UI 3.1?

Interesting report on Sammobile this morning re: Samsung enabling e-SIM functionality in the One UI 3.1 update - for those that have received the update, is the e-SIM now enabled? If so, for what model and region?
Your Galaxy S20 series phone may have eSIM functionality on One UI 3.x
Samsung has released the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 firmware update for the Galaxy S20 series many weeks ago, and ...

At this point, no one knows - we'll see with the 3.1 update, but it appears unlikely. This is why you should always buy a phone that has the features you want/need, and never in the hope that someday it might.

Question RMX3311 GDPR version downgrade A13 to A12

Hello.
I own an european realme gt2. Current software version: RMX3311_11.C.08_1080_202301111307.
I have been trying to downgrade to the last version of android 12 ( RMX3311_11.A.22_0220_202211010914 ) and I can't seem to make it work.
I downloaded the OTA package ( RMX3311_11.A.22_0220_202211010914 ) using realme ota tool and tried to install it using local install from the update menu on the phone -> I am getting a verification failed error.
Is there any method to downgrade to android 12?
Version C.08 is Android 13 and A.22 is Android 12 therefore authentication failed.
Rollback i found only for india RMX3312.

That's the reason I didn't update to Android 13 yet. That update notification is there for nearly one month and I'll let it stay there until a rollback package is available for rmx3311. Until now you cannot downgrade the European model to Android 12 since there is no rollback package. Only for rmx3312 Indian model it is available.
Why would you want to downgrade? A13 is working fine no issues for me.
Do a hard reset after update otherwise you might have some problems especially with battery standby.

Incredible ! realme so bad !
I've recently bought a GT2, probably from a really old stock, which is on RMX3311_11.A.22 (this is already updated by me) and I might've been scammed, since the phone had fingerprints out of the sealed box, idk.
I've ran the OTA tool: realme-ota RMX3311EEA RMX3311_11.A.22_0220_202211010914 3 -r 3 -o
But it only returns a json for the next update, RMX3311_11.C.06_1060_202212011207. And the A12 update zip got deleted during installation, so... Is there another way to dump mine?
(Also thanks to the devs that they created a whole pip package and an installer, which couldn't detect or install python, so I had to bootup a VM just for the tool, because I was too lazy to patch the installer script or install manually. So I'm planning to rewrite it in dotnet to make it usable.)
k3rielit said:
J'ai exécuté l'outil OTA : realme-ota RMX3311EEA RMX3311_11.A.22_0220_202211010914 3 -r 3 -o

In the attempt of changing from rmx3311 to rmx3312, I used the oneplus updater app for Android 13 on my rmx3311 running still android 12 and surprise: it installed the rollback package ment for the Indian version.
So I changed my European rmx3311 to the Indian rmx3312 variant by using only the oneplus local updater app.
Now, I believe that by cross-installing a different region OTA rollback package my device lost IMEI and Baseband because it doesn't recognize anymore my SIM card.
I wanted to change to rmx3312 because the indiant variant have the possibility to unlock the bootloader.
Is there any chance I can recover my IMEI and Baseband?
Also try to install Full OTA RMX3311

That would be my first option.
But I would like to manage to preserve the Indian variant since it is the only one with the unlockable bootloader.
Also, I never had believed that it is possible to change region so easy. And having locked bootloader.
It has already been tried and the result was as you wrote. Reverting to the original version helped. For GT 2 Pro, the device model is the same (RMX3301). GT 2 changes the version of RMX3311 to RMX3312.

Then maybe I can unlock the bootloader on this variant (RMX3312) and after that I'll install the RMX3311 package. Maybe the bootloader will stay unlocked?!?
Changing the region via Full OTA will certainly not overwrite all partitions. Manifest:Image will be 1b:44 where 1b stands for India and 44 stands for Europe.
In such a situation, a little is enough and the brick is born.

Thanks. So better to take no risk since there is not a free unbrick tool for these devices. And the bootloader cannot be unlocked even in the RMX3312 since i don't have a valid IMEI number.
So, to revert back to RMX3311 i must repeat the process using the Oneplus updater application? And what firmware should i install?
Right now i am on Android 13 for the RMX3312 since i have done the regular OTA update hopping it will solve something about the IMEI.
