Questions about buying Note 9 direct from Samsung UK - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Good morning all,
I've just discovered this wonderful forum and the world of android modding/rooting etc. I am looking to purchase the following model SM-N960FZKHBTU direct from Samsung in the United Kingdom. I am assuming and hoping I will get the Exynos cpu? Please could some inform me if I buy direct from Samsung can I remove a lot of the bloat apps without rooting? Stuff like Facebook and heavily embedded apps? I don't want to root initial incase I wish to take part in the upgrade program, where one of the conditions of the ToS must be Knox not being tripped.
Please could anyone from the UK share their experiences.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

If you purchase your Note 9 directly from Samsung UK. You are guaranteed to get the Exynos variant. However you will not be able to remove any of the Samsung Bloatware without tripping Knox after you have rooted your device. Also rooting your device will void your warranty.

Can't get Samsung Pay to work on international Note 8.

I bought an international model of the Note 8, model N950FXXS3CRF1, and ever since day 1, I can't get Samsung Pay to work. I was able to get it setup for my Gear S3, so it's not like I'm completely unable to use it, but this is a bit concerning for me in a way that I'll explain in a moment.
First off, when I go to the Galaxy Apps store, I'm unable to find Samsung Pay for download. Naturally, I went and just hunted down the latest APK for the app instead, though, whenever I open it, it just says it's temporarily unable to connect. Again, this doesn't affect the Gear S version of the app, it's still fully-functioning, it's only doing this for the phone version.
Now, the reason this is concerning to me is because, as far as I can tell after doing a bit of research, is that the version of the Note 8 port of Android belongs to a country that doesn't have support for Samsung Pay, thus leading me to suspect that there might be some more features I'm missing out on.
So, can anyone tell me which version of the Note 8 firmware I can install that'll allow me use of the phone version of Samsung Pay?
Where will you use your phone? You can install Mexico's FW, it will include samsung pay, no need to side load

Under the Claro section
If you purchased your Note 8 from a grey importer. Chances are you receieved a Note 8 that was not intended for use in your country. Despite the fact that it is an international variant. If the device is not intended for use in your country, you won't be able to use Samsung Pay on your device.

I have an N9600 in the USA, so what can i do?

It's my understanding that these are not US models and therefore can not use many features like Samsung pay. But mine was purchased in the US, by a US trailer (Rent A Center). I really would like to USE all of these features, which I guess I can do by fishing a firmware? If so which would be the one to flash to use on GSM networks? I hear also that this model can be rooted, is that possible if I install another versions firmware? Is there any guides to the firmware and rooting available for the n9600?
Bumping this. I'm frustrated with how locked down this phone is to where I can't even use Samsung Pay.
This screen shot is my information. I'm looking through the Snapdragon section. I'm not wanting to be rooted especially if I still won't be able to use Samsung Pay. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Importing a Snapdragon Model from U.S.

After comprehending the HUGE differences between the performance of the Exynos and Snapdragon model (thanks to Anandtech and Gary Explains YouTube), I am thinking of buying the Snapdragon model from U.S. and importing it to India. Wanted to know wether or not is it worth it, the hassles of doing so, and is there a better option than Amazon for it ?

I would strongly advise not going down this route. I did the exact same thing with my previous S8. What Samsung don't tell you is that they include a region lock on their devices. In order to remove the lock, you need to use 5 minutes of call time in that particular country to unlock it. I purchased my phone in the US and initially and used the phone to get the unlock, without any knowledge. The issues arose when I brought it back to the UK and flashed my own firmware. In this case, a beta firmware update. By doing my own flash, it then reset the lock removing access to the galaxy app store, samsung pay and a number of other apps.
You can find an example of this by simply googling samsung region lock.
If it's simply a performance issue, I would stick with the Exynos processor. My note 9 has had no issues in performance whatsoever and would strongly recommend the phone.

Thank You AFewLads for bringing this issue to the fore and potentially saving me a lot of money !!! Btw, just for my curiosity (and probably a few others), what did you do with your S8 then ?

Does root always trip Knox?

Quick question, hope somebody more knowledgeable can help.
First of all, I come from the land of Nexus and Pixels, where unlocked bootloaders and rooting are fairly common. Recently, I've grown tired of having subpar hardware and some software choices made by Google, so the S10 family has finally caught my eye. However, all this chat about Knox, CSC, regional variants, dual SIMs, etc, etc, has got me fairly confused, even after hours of reading the S8, S9 and S10 XDA forums. So here are some questions:
1. Does rooting a Samsung phone always trip Knox? The thing is, I would very much like to root my future S10, but I'm fairly excited about Samsung Pay. Also, I don't want to permanently trip a fuse. I understand there's no going back after tripping Knox.
2. Can Magisk Hide help with Knox and Samsung Pay?
3. Can anybody confirm whether the Snapdragon Hong Kong version has an unlocked bootloader? I know Exynos can be rooted, but Gcam is a MUST for me. So this becomes a matter of choosing between the US version (U1), or the Hong Kong version (0). Furthermore, if root for HK version becomes possible, will it trip Knox and lose Samsung Pay? Basically, I don't see the point of getting the unlocked bootloader version if Knox will be tripped anyway. At that point I might as well get the US version and keep it unrooted.
From my limited knowledge, rooting will trip Knox, magisk hide will hide the root from certain apps but once you root say goodbye to Samsung pay.
Not only rooting triggers knox, it triggers knox too if you flash an samsung unsinged recovery like twrp, or a custom kernel etc. It seems, if you compile a kernel from source without any modification(stock alike), it triggers knox too. So not only the rooting process triggers knox.

Question No MST?

Is it true that samsung removed MST functionality in many regions of the world? More specific to me, the US? I wonder if they will bring it back. Besides the microsd card, this was an important factor in choosing samsung over other android phones. Anyone have any
Ore information on this? Samsung pay without MDT is just a more limited google pay.

It has been removed in the US (other regions not certain yet) and apparently will not make a reappearance on a Samsung phone in the future (unless they change their mind). Read here:

It appears not worldwide and may have something to do with the SoCs as well. Read here:
