P20 Pro PS4 Controller Issues - Known Fixes/Fixed with Pie? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey everyone,
I've had issues since I got my P20 Pro where The Dualshock 4/PS4 Controller won't connect via bluetooth. Using some third party programs I managed to get it to connect, but it doesn't do anything useful.
Looking through other threads, this seems like it's been an issue for a while with Huawei devices, but I can't find a fix. Is anyone able to confirm if they can get a PS4 controller working correct with the P20 Pro (Either natively or with third party apps?)
If anyone has Pie, it'd be super cool if you could test if this has been fixed too on there, as I used to enjoy playing games like Final Fantasy IX with the PS4 controller

The same happens to me
I've been looking for how to fix this problem just like you, but nothing or using third-party applications with my P20 Pro have you found any solution to this problem?:crying:

Bluetooth Gamepad Problem

Guys I have a problem with our beloved xperia and I'm posting only now because I am sure now it's actually the phone, not the device (I tried it on an old KitKat Samsung and a nougat moto g... Everything is fine there).
So I have an iPega 9025 bluetooth gamepad which was working all right in my previous Nexus 5.
Here's the problem: FIRST TIME I try to pair the pad everything is fine, gamepad is working as it should be in games, emulators and within the android system. After first use though, if I turn off the gamepad and turn it on again it just doesn't work. I can see the Bluetooth icon in bar system and I see it in Bluetooth settings as Connected, it just does doesn't work.
Before u ask, I already tried going in Scanning settings and play with WiFi Scanning and Bluetooth scanning (on or off) : it doesn't change anything
I also tried in Developer Options in change Bluetooth AVRCP version from 1.6 to 1,4: doesn't change anything.
Bummer, I was planning on heavyly using emulators and games...
Does somebody has my same problem? Or maybe it's just this particular ipega gamepad having some sort of conflict with our xperia? In that case, does somebody is using some other Bluetooth Gamepad and NOT having any problems?
P. S. I'm on last build 47.1.A. 2.374
Nobody...?

Compatibility with Android Auto

Is there someone who could test the compatibility of the P20 Pro extensively with Android Auto? I suspect the general incompatibility (waze, Google music, in call screen,...) of the Mate 10 Pro is still not solved and till now not one review pays attention to this glaring issue. Curious if Huawei has solved this problem with this new phone.

Interesting. I'll listen here before buying, because I use Android Auto quite a bit, so if it doesn't work it's a no go for me.
Unfortunately the first feedback reports the same incompatibility as with the Mate 10 Pro.

I'm having issues connecting the phone to the head unit now with the android 8.1. It is telling me that there is a error code of communication error 6
This is diabolical, for such a basic functionality!!!
I am awaiting delivery of my P20 Pro, and was literally 5 minutes away from ordering an Android Auto headunit!
You have just saved me a lot of money... thanks!
Hopefully more people on here will be able to test.
For me, the only thing that doesn't work is Play Music. The progress bar moves but there's no sound. BBC iPlayer Radio and TuneIn Radio both work fine. No problems with Maps and phone.
It's poor at best, if you get it working leave it and don't touch anything.
Had a trip in partners Ford Focus - Sync 3 head unit, works fine with Pixel 2XL/XZ1 Compact but this just either didn't want to play anything or when attempting to read a message would give the error "voice commands not available at the moment" same when attempting to use voice commands as well. Once I did get it playing music and maps I just left it as I didn't want to break anything but still no voice commands available.
Looks like Google will be making Android Auto fully compatible with the P20 Pro. Looks like our phone is a big enough launch from Huawei to attract attention from them.

I'm using a P20 Pro. I have been using android auto in my golf now and everything seems to work fine. The only issues I am having are that I can make calls, but I can't see the phone call on the screen which means I have to use the steering wheel to hangup. When someone rings me I can't see it on my. Infotainment screen. Also can't see all of my contacts. Only my most recent. Hopefully there is a fix coming for this

Just received my P20 Pro yesterday, and just like my all previous Huawei phones (P9, P10, Mate 10 Pro) - it works with AA fine enough (only issue - call screen is not being shown).
It's barely usable...
Well it's my first Huawei phone (coming from an S8) and I'm a big fan of AA probably because of Waze...
Here are my remarks:
- Google Maps works from time to time
- Waze doesn't work at all, I have a black screen
- and for the audio it's impossible to switch between the apps and there's no audio
So unless you're using Google Maps extensively, I don't see why you'd use the P20 Pro with AA.
For those who are thinking how it was with an S8, well it was kind of a all or nothing experience. I've had periods where the phone wouldn't connect to AA and suddenly start working again.
I have also noticed that the cable quality is very important.
Android auto working fine for me. Only issue is the phone charges very slowly when connected. My one plus used to charge much quicker when connected to car head unit
Hello I've P20 and vw sportvan, no map (waze or Google maps)... I've black screen. No sound when I want to use Google music... I hope Huawei make something to solve this....
I have AA in a Pioneer headunit, working with a P20 Pro, I get audio issues with Google Play Music, waze works fine...
Got a P20 Pro and Android auto is working perfect in my Volkswagen Passat GTE. Been using it daily and everything works fine for me including Waze and Spotify

Doesnt Work
Pioneer X8800BT headunit worked flawlessly with Sony Xperia Z5 Premium so it's not the headunit.
Waze worked for a hour or so with audio then this became a black screen. Google play music "plays" but no sound comes out. In the end I had to unplug the phone from headunit (which I paid good money for) and use the unit as a dumb bluetooth speaker while using Waze directly off the phone...
I think I'll be returning it and getting a Pixel 2 XL unless someone can give me hope that there is work being done to solve this? I don't want to root it just yet because my credit card / banking apps stop working.
Shame as it's an otherwise excellent phone - but this is a deal breaker for me.
From my point of view is essential to have a quality USB cable. Everything (Waze, Google maps, call screen) works seemly with original cable delivered with charger. With another cable work call screen only, Waze and Google maps shows black screen. With cheap USB cabel my mobil phone (Huawei P20 PRO) doesnt connect to car (Hyundai i30 2018).
yesterday an AA update hit the play store. anyone tried after that?

Yes, no substantial changes...

Do 3rd Party Controllers Work Over Bluetooth?

As some of you may know, Samsung has in the past had the horrible practice of blocking and disabling bluetooth controllers from working, in favour of their VR controller setup.
I wondered if anyone here has attempted to connect a controller for use in games?
Yeah I use the Moga pro

What games do you play with that controller paired to your phone? Do you find that it is widely compatible?
I use it for PUBG and a couple of emulators. There's also quite a few games that are "optimized" for the controller and officially support it.

Play Ror2 without controller

Hi.
I have played since yesterday the game on my shield tablet with the Nvidia controller.
Absolutely no problem
But I want to know if I can play without controller, just with the touchscreen and some tricks or app.
Does anyone have some idea ?

YouTube stutters while using bluetooth audio

Hi,
I'm currently using my P30 Pro and it seems that there's no way to watch a youtube clip without stuttering. My colleague has got the same problem on his phone.
When using my Bose Soundsport Free , YouTube keeps lagging (only the picture, not the sound). I already tried to reset my phone, delete all data of the app, and changed the codec.
The problem also appears when connecting to my car (youtube stutters). Please note : that was only for testing.
The bose Soundsport free did work without any problems on my Galaxy S9+. I'm also using the newest update.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks

I think there was a similar issue with instagram also on the previous build. Are you sure you are on the latest build ?
I updated a few days after the release of the phone to EMU 9.1.0.124.
My colleague's phone was using the previous one.
I'm having same problem with Bluetooth audio streaming, I'm on latest firmware...
Huawei phones are (in)famous for aggressive battery management.
I had the music stuttering issue with MX Player on P20 Pro & it only went away if I suspended power management for the MX Player app.
I have had issues with Bluetooth stuttering as well, on Samsung, Skullcandy & other noname knockoffs, but only in public transport where tons of other bluetooth devices are live in close vicinity.
However, on he recent software version on the P20 Pro & now the P30 Pro, I'm seeing the stutters less & less.
Not a solution for your issue, just my observations.
YMMV
This is happening on my p20 recently and it's super aggravating. It will work if I shut the screen of but if Im trying to watch a video I'm pretty much SOL
Hi I found the solution! Go in developer settings and change your Bluetooth code from AAC to SBS. AAC seems to be cpu intensive, therefore causes choppy video. Good luck!
For those facing this issue on Android TV youtube app, using bluetooth headsets, go to settings -- Device Preferences -- Sound -- Under Digital Audio Format, select Auto...restart.
This solved my issue
