BRICKED A2 totally Differently - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

I flashed miui 10 on my a2 just to experience the rom. Then totally out of my mistake I flashed an 58 mb update of miui 10 of Note 5 instead of 6x from here. " https://sourceforge.net/projects/xiaomi-firmware-updater/files/non-arb/V10/whyred/ ". I flashed it via twrp, and bang my set is bricked.
It now stays in EDL mode when i connect to pc, Then i tried the guide "[GUIDE][MI A2 / MI 6X] How to unbrick from ARB (EDL state)" [ Link is : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/how-to/guide-how-to-unbrick-arb-edl-t3846426]
Here, i downloaded miui 10 of mi 6x, then exchanged abl.elf, ddr and another file of jasmine .
I followed everything, but problem occurs when i clicked on flash. these thing come up:
1) read hello pocket
2) could not read hello pocket
3) try to reset status
4) write timeout ,maybe device was disconnected
I opened mI flash tool as an Admin, still same erros.
I later tried to flash a2's stock rom by clicking flash_all.bat file and it gave me this error: "fastboot getvar product 2>&1 | findstr /r /c:"^product: *jasmine" || echo Missmatching image and device"

EDIT : SOLVED AFTER TESTPOINTS MTHOD

Have you tried test point method? I have the same issue with Mi 6X and it should work with Mi A2 too

Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi A2 / Mi 6X ROMs are interchangeable with a proper TWRP so you flashed an older version of MIUI 10 which caused the brick. In your case, the only way to revive it is by test-point (shorting two tiny pins on the motherboard to put phone in a proper EDL state).

u have given me Test point method, but the link of the rom is of mi 6x's where my set is a2 actually, shouldn't i use A2's stock rom?

Use that method to flash your Mi A2 with it's original stock Android One ROM. You do not need to modify any files just to open up your device and short that pins.

Actually, with my case Mi 6X you have to extract and replace this file into the extracted stock ROM

I don't know if it will work with Mi A2

edit flash_all.bat with notepad++ and delete 2-3 first lines that have a getvar command
after that in fastboot you can flash any rom without mismatch error

actually whenver i connect my device its recognised as sd 9800 under PORTS & COM, do i need to short the pins?

If you cannot bypass the Hello package error or the mismatch, you need to short pins because the phone it's not in a proper EDL state (yours in brick-EDL state and it can flashed only with Mi Authorized Account even if its Mi A2 or any other one). So we need to do this method in order to bypass that thing. As I read more carefully, I understand that you triggered the ARB (anti-roll back). In this case your only hope is to flash the latest MIUI 10 for Mi 6X and then, to get back to stock Android, you can flash AOSP Extended.

stuck in here

I had a similiar problem the last weekend, my phone wasn't able to boot up and the pc didn't recognize the device while on fastboot. if your pc detects your phone as 9008 COMX (something like that) you should try to flash the stock AO rom 9.6.10 with MiFlash, I only could flash with the latest miFLash version, its installer was on chinese! try this one if you get something like "couldnt connect to COMX" error, if miflash doesn't recognize your phone at all or you cant flash even when everything seems to be ok, you probably must short the pines and flash with MiFlash... I had to use test points to recover my device, there wasn't other way, my pc never detected it at all... good luck!
sorry for my english

You must short the pins to revive your device, remember it will void your warranty,

Genuine question: is this true for the official LineageOS version (made for whyred)? That would be a massive finding, so much so that people building for whyred should be made aware that they cover more devices than they expected.
Needless to say, without confirmation I won't risk my Mi A2 experimenting that... sounds too good to be true (no offense intended).

It works. You just need to flash the whyred TWRP and flash back stock Android One boot.img after every ROM install.

Hard bricked Mi 8

Hello,
I have hard bricked my Mi 8 doing that :
1. install TWRP 3.2.1 (successfull)
2. backup of original phone setup (everything was checked)
3. trying to flash xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 (latest realease)
4. booting (unsuccessfull, not bootloop but after MI android logo doesn't boot up)
5. so i decided to restore my backup (just data unchecked)
6. press reboot (and it didn't reboot)
The actual situation :
When i try to press the power button the phone doesn't boot, If i try to go into recovery mode it doesn't boot and same for fastboot mode.
The screen is unresponsive (no backlight) and it doesn't vibrate. When i connect the phone to my computer it is automatically recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5) which correspond to the EDL mode (i think).
I tried :
1. miflash (using 2 different fastboot china dev rom found on the XDA recovery post for mi 8) --> the mi 8 is automatically recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5) without using deepflash cable or pressing any button and I got an error : "ERROR: Only nop and sig tag can be recevied before authentication."
EDIT : I updated my Miflash tool and now i have to connect to my Mi account BUT i have to be EDL authorized by Xiaomi to flash repair my phone
2. deepflash cable (but it changes nothing)
3. mi flash pro : it open miflashtool
4. mi pc suite : nothing
I don't understand why it is bricked considering i just restored a working setup but it the most hard brick i have ever seen.
If someone can help me or suggest an option i'll give it a try and keep you updated.
EDIT : i understand now , it is due to the Anti-Rollback system that xiaomi implemented in their rom (we can't downgrade) + the necessity to have an EDL authorized account
Thanks you
PS : i can post MiFlash log if it can help
And with mi pcsuite?

Didn't try it but i was thinking this software wasn't updated since 2015. I just see right now that the 3.2 beta is released and Mi 8 is supported.
Thanks for that, i'll give it a try tomorrow as i can't do this that night.
I'll keep you updated.

My initial ROM was the vendor rom (Mi global store on aliexpress) and i think it is a fake "official global rom" on MIUI 9.5 so a modified chinese rom.
The xiaomi.eu ROM was the MIUI 10 8.7.26 for Mi 8.
Before every flash (or restoration) of ROM I format DATA, CACHE and DALVIK.
btw i didn't format data, cache and dalvik after the restoration. I just press the reboot option of TWRP and it never booted again.
Omg. I'm afraid. My mi8 came with global 9.5 china (in facto it's chinese version) and i've put MIUI 10 beta 8.7.12. In 1 week I'll be able to unlock it and put global rom (my language is portuguese). But after reading this, i'm not motivated. Sad. Hope you'll can fix It. Crossed fingers here!

Yeah it is weird... that's the first time i see such a problem on an android (and Xiaomi device).
Actually you can flash TWRP (I suggest v3.2.1) without any problem but backup/restore didn't worked for me and flash xiaomi.eu didn't worked (but it didn't bricked my mi 8).
EDIT : I have some "news" but i'm not sure about that. I think there is something about the anti-rollback system : as i flashed MIUI 10 and restored back to MIUI 9.5 (downgrade) it activated the ARB system and hard bricked my phone (maybe).
I checked others forum and a guy named MyReghalia on en.miui.com forums have EXACTLY the same problem as me and he didn't figured it out with that problem.
BTW maybe with an EDL authorized account i'll be able to flash via Miflash but find someone who has an authorized EDL Mi account to borrow or EDL authorize my account is an other problem....
Did u flash the right recovery.img on the mi8?if so what partitions u restore?faulty recovery?....is weird i have never see ql9008 mode unless the recovery is broken and restore an partiton in the wrong slot

Yep, i flashed the v3.2.1 -0611- for Mi 8 availible on the XDA forums. It worked and i had access to the custom recovery.
When I backuped/restored I checked all the options availible and didn't touch anything about partitions. Maybe it is a faulty recovery but actually i have some clues because, IMO also it is weird that my device is automatically recognized as ql9008 mode. (BTW it seems to be a well known problem on redmi note 5/pro)
I checked on diverse forums and there is the ARB (Anti-RollBack system) that xiaomi put inside their rom and doesn't allow to downgrade android version or miui firmware unless a brick occurs. The only way I found to get back my phone is to contact xiaomi repair services and asked them to repair my phone because they have authorized EDL mi account (it is something pretty new, before we had acces to flash in EDL mode without account, now it is regulated by xiaomi....)

Thanks you but actually i don't need to do the test point method because my phone is already and automatically in EDL emergency mode.
BTW it is the good way to do it but unfortunately i don't have any EDL auth account...
With everything i read on different forums i'm pretty sure that rom development will be extremely difficult until a way is found to get around this ARB system and EDL authorization account that doesn't allow to repair our bricked xiaomi phone.
Very bad they ask for an account even with emergency EDL repairs.
Hello, my mi8 I have it more than a month ago and came with the Chinese ROM, then update from the phone to MIUI 10 Chinese beta, then using Miflash to rom.eu MIUI 10 and then again through Miflash to the last global 9.5.14.0 and I have not had any problem PPR what I think At least in my case that Xiaomi has not activated the Antirollback in the Mi8, forgive my English, greetings

Ahhh I forgot, before doing all that had unlocked the bottloader through Miunloock and the last ROM that had flashed the global I forgot to unmark that blocked the device and the phone was in Bootloop, so I went back to unlock the bootloader and Ripped smoothly

There are only 2 ways to bring back to life the MI8 with brick
1.-Xiaomi Authorized Account (Miflash)
2.-Latest version of China stable in my case I need the 9.5.14.0 and there is only the 9.5.11.0 for Flash by Mipcsuite 3.0 China
(Mipcsuite 3.0 Chinese version allows flash with blocked bootloader)

I have the same issue before and I got the solution form miuieu forum.
After installing miui 10 from miuieu, you need to format data. Then bring up to home screen successfully.
Hi ,
Actually the only way to get back a hard-bricked Mi8 ( no fastboot , no recovery) is through MiflashTool with an EDL authorized account , there isn't any way to do this because MiPcsuite doesn't recognize an hard bricked device.
By the way it seems that this problem is not well known on XDA forum I strongely invite you to speak about that on these forums (BE AWARE) and to take a look at xiaomi forum, where it seems a bigger problem than here (a LOT of people, from India , China and everywhere around the world are in the same boat...).
The problem begun with the note 5/pro (you will find more about that on this device's forums)
Also, i returned back my Mi8 because of the xiaomi's politics about the liberty to self repair (software) our phone and i get to oneplus which allows us to do whatever we want...
Good Luck and peace

PLEASE HELP - Device Bricked - edl waiting for device

Hello I have a Mi A2 with ONE.
I tried to install Mi6X following this guide:
Guide
I got to step 9:
9- Click Refresh on Mi Flash Then choose Clean all and click flash
Then I got this error:
Error oem edl miflash tool, ACK count don't match
Then I tryed instead to install Jasmine again, and I started getting this error:
Cannot receive hello packet,MiFlash is trying to reset status
And then I was stupid enough to unplug my phone
THE ACTUAL PROBLEM (rigth now)
1. My phone will start, then stay at Mi(mi.com) logo indefinitely.
2. I can't enter download mode, Vol + and power will bring me the Mi logo again and again.
3. Can enter Fastboot mode... BUT...
-Mi flash don't detect it
-miflash_unlock don't detect it
-edl.cmd, unlock auto, and unlock critical say "< waiting for device >"
Edit: I solved the problem using test point to enter EDL mode, then It connected and I could flash it.

Bricked CC9 from anti-rollback. Help with EDL flashing

I accidentally flashed a MiUI 10 ROM with miflash onto my CC9 which has bricked my phone as it was previously on MiUI 11. My bootloader is now locked because I accidentally checked that option in miflash so I can't just fastboot flash another working ROM. I tried putting the phone into EDL mode using the test pin method, however since I did that once, it will no longer go into EDL mode again. Is this normal?
If anyone knows or can point me in the direction of someone who can unbrick my phone it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
This is why you have to be extra careful while flashing something.. hope you find a solution

Thanks

Can you access fastboot mode? If so, you can try unlocking the bootloader again and installing the rom you want. If you haven't removed the mi account it will unlock and you don't even have to wait the required time again.
Unfortunately since I bought the phone off AliExpress, the seller had already unlocked it so their account is bound to the phone rather than mine. I have managed to get the phone to boot into EDL mode by the test point method but I don't have an edl authorised account to flash a working ROM. If anyone knows someone who could help me out with this I'm more than happy to pay them for their time ?

Download the latest fastboot firmware (MIUI 11) for your mi cc9 (not mi 9 lite). Don't grab the recovery.zip firmware, it's useless and will give you errors.
When you finish your download, unpack your .tar firmware twice and flash it with MiFlashTool while you are on fastboot mode. (Power/Vol-).
Next time, ask before flashing not after !
Hello , how is it going?. I also have problem with my cc9 and tried to flash latest miui 10 v11.3.4.0 and now it's softbricked , I'm having problem with Mi Flash since it's showing lock state error. any fix for it?

What kind of firmware are you trying to flash trough MiFlash ? recovery.zip or fastboot ? Can you take screenshots so people can know what is your issue ? Without screenshot no one will help you here !
Cheers
I also same situation, does anyone know a good idea?
I also same situation, does anyone know a good idea?
I installed Global ROM in CC9(Chinese edition) device and the device BootLoader is locked.
When I used fastboot and miflashtool, I got a message "Unauthorized for this operation"
I tried to unlock it and I also get a message "please add your account in miui settings > developer options > mi unlock status"
But i can't get out of recovery mode so I can't change the settings.
I tried to unlock but failed and also attempts to flash in EDL mode failed.
Sorry for bad english

Mi 9 lite
I have a xiaomi mi 9 lite and it is in bootloop I try to turn it on and the MI logo appears for a second and it goes off I can't go into fastboot or recovery I already opened it to do test point and flash but it asks me for an authorized account If someone here has an authorized account that can lend me I will pay for the rental of the authorized account please help with that.
This guy helped me. He uses ultraviewer.net for remote connection. 1722 rubles for flashing.
MOD EDIT: Phone Number Removed
Le: how did you bricked it? I restored an older backup of android 9 over Android 10 from twrp. But from what I understand cc9 doesn't have rollback protection.
Le2: you can also try those fishy 710 firehose no Auth loaders you can find from various sources. Didn't worked for me but you can try.
If you flash Revolution OS or flash Android 9 over Android 10 rom you have good chance to hard brick device so you need to flash first fastboot rom if you want to go from 10 to 9
Thanks
friend @editheraven thank you very much for the contact, I spoke and yesterday I could flash my MI 9 lite I really appreciate it, thank you bro.

Download the fastboot firmware version and execute flash all. (not flash and lock).
I assume you have fastboot access.

MI 8 - Bricked

Hello,
I was running unlocked bootloader and pixelexperience rom. Today I wanted to try to flash latest xiaomi.eu and now my phone is bricked.
Steps:
Twrp -
flashed data (after that i saw that i had an error and data didn't flash)
installed rom (because i didn't see the error) - rom failed to install
flashed data again from twrp advanced option
phone rebooted and now it bootloops on mi logo. i do not have recovery nor fastboot.
what can I do in this situation? i searched the forum but there is nothing similar
You must have fastboot, check how install miui using mi flash. I use this method and working for me
When I try to boot into fastboot, it only shows black screen. The PC does not recognise it.
Also, I do not have EDL mode available..

Exact same issue, no fastboot or EDL mode. Tried updating the latest Miui 11 - Android 10 - Xiaomi EU Rom (Jan 25th) and the phone has been bricked.
Solution Deleted.
got into EDL mode using test points, but now i have edl auth error - "cannot receive hello packet"
Seems like a common problem for bricked devices and need mi account with the right edl auth privileges.
Any help welcome.
There is nothing to do, unless:
A) you find a Xiaomi Authorized account (in which case please alert us)
B) you manage to hack the EDL mode and bypass the Authorization.
Tertium non datur.
EDIT: EDL is the only chance for you anyway @Andrei221
If you had fastboot you could get into EDL by running: "fastboot oem edl", but since you have no fastboot you're only left with the test-points or an EDL-cable.

No. I've tried different things:
- trying to flash with QPST in EDL mode (9008)
- trying to flash fastboot roms with various/ancient versions of MiFlash in EDL mode (9008)
- flashing standalone modem firmwares (old ones, new ones, non-ARB ones, packed with NON-HLOS, etc.) from TWRP
- doing a MITM on the response that MiFlash & MiFlash PRO get from https://update.miui.com/updates/miotaV3.php
- doing a MITM on MiFlash and redirecting requests to old URLs (https://update.miui.com/updates/miotaV2.php, https://update.miui.com/updates/miota.php) and black-box testing them
- using MobileEdit Forensic tool to exploit the EDL firmware
*Note*: I've obviously tried all the different FireHose programmers that are floating around (including those distributed by MobileEdit).
Nothing works.
Especially trying to modify the response (if one understood its format) could very well be useless because it could be that the response from update.miui.com is validated directly by the firmware itself (like a challenge-response authentication) - this has to be verified.
The only possibility I see for now is to flash the original Xiaomi Recovery, let it connect to MiFlash Pro (choosing option n.3 from the menu), and then using IdaPro to trick MiFlash Pro into telling the Recovery to flash the phone. It shouldn't be hard, and I think it *MIGHT* offer the possibility to bypass ARB & Authentication (but I might be wrong: it might be equivalent to flashing from Fastboot). That waits to be tested.
I hope this saves y'all from wasting time.
To flash or unbrick Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, you'll need edl authentication to use the Mi Flash tool to complete this flashing operation. An authorized Service Account is required. This is the worst part of flashing the latest generation of Xiaomi android devices. I have had this problem before with MI 8 Lite. I stuck getting these error messages "Mi Flash Tool Unauthorized for this Operation - Your Account is Unauthorized for this operation - Authorized Service Account required"
This method works only for Mi 8 Lite

How To Guide Way to unbrick device in EDL

Hi, I probably found the way to flash ROM if device in edl without auth account:
Download latest MiFlash and fastboot rom
Unzip rom and go to /images folder
Choose prog_ufs_firehose_sdm7150.elf
Copy it to MiFlash folder
Go to EDL and type in cmd on PC in Mi Flash directory command attached as picture.
Wait until "OKAY" appears
After this reconnect phone in EDL and start flashing ROM INSTANTLY!!!

EDL or Emergency DownLoad Mode
What is EDL Mode and How to Boot your Qualcomm Android Device into it
Android phones and tablets equipped with Qualcomm chipset contain a special boot mode which could be used force-flash firmware files for the purpose of unbricking or restoring the stock ROM.

Your instructions say to copy "prog_ufs_firehose_sdm7150.elf" but the image refers to "prog_emmc_firehose_sdm7150.elf" (sdm vs. emmc). Is this correct? Or which should it be?
It's the same. It depends from Miui version (I took that file from 12.5)
well if this true this guy needs a major award and this post needs a lot more attention as we would finally have a way to unbrick this device for free. Let also take the opportunity to wish all the people in telegram to go to hell for taking money to use their auth account to do it for other people (yes I DO believe it should be free for all)
Did anyone successfully try this on a bricked device?

It definitely worked in 2019. I don't if it works right now (really hope so)
if it worked in 2019 then it can have chance to still work, with the same software setup / rom. But this device did not exist in 2019....
would you mind posting exact setup details, so that it can be verified by others?
which version of miflash, which rom (did you flash a rom for redmi note 10 pro with it?)
this needs to be verified, but I have no bricked device around, and dont want to try it just for fun with running device.

MiFlash 2018
It worked for lavender (Redmi Note 7) when it was in EDL
I used latest MiFlash to flash Redmi Note 10 Pro fastboot Miui 12.5
so you used mi flash to flash a rn10p device, which was not in bricked state, only?
but you didnt try it in bricked stage?
edit: I mean HARDBRICK, screenoff /EDL loop. not fastboot
Yes
ah well, then you basically just flashed via fastboot, no real unbrick.
Does it work?
That can't work unless he speciefies each single step and which exact file he used. EDL has an authetication scheme and if you don't have an authorized account then it won't work.
