Honor 10 Vs. Honor Play: Which Phone is the Better Value? #ad - Honor Play Guides, News, & Discussion

Honor 10 Vs. Honor Play: Which Phone is the Better Value?
The Honor 10 was launched as Honor’s flagship phone of 2018, fitted with their newest Kirin 970 chipset and Honor’s AI Camera. Priced at ₹32999.00 ($459), the Honor 10 was one of the best valued phones of the year. Shortly after the Honor 10 was launched, Honor announced the Honor Play. This phone was designed to be a device for gamers, focusing on performance and priced at ₹19999.00 ($277). The strange thing about this phone is that it has almost the same specs as the Honor 10, while being over $200 cheaper.
In this comparison we will see if the Honor 10 is worth the additional $200 that you’ll pay, or if the Honor Play is a better value.

Display
Both the Honor 10 and the Honor play are fitted with 1080p IPS displays. The Honor play has a larger display at 6.3″ while the Honor 10 is 5.84″. The Play also have a taller aspect ratio at 19.5:9 as apposed to the Honor 10’s 19:9. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference. For those of you that prefer bigger phones, the Play will be an obvious choice here.

When it comes to brightness, the Honor 10 is brighter than the Play. Neither phone is lacking in this department, with the Honor 10 able to reach 522 nits and the Play able to reach 398. The Honor 10 beats the Honor play in all aspects of the display, when it comes to color temperature, contrast, gamma ect.
While the Honor 10’s display is technically better than the Honor Play, I am always finding myself grabbing the Honor Play when I’m going to get in a session of PUBG. The larger display is just preferable when it comes to gaming. When holding the phones side-by-side, you are almost unable to tell the difference between the two. Users who prefer a larger display will not have to sacrifice much quality by opting for the Play as opposed tot he Honor 10.
Build Quality
Since the release of the Honor 7X in 2017, Honor has been releasing most of their budget and mid-range phones with a metal unibody build, which is what we find on the Honor Play. They save the Aurora Design, which is their multi-layered glass build, for their flagship phones like the Honor 8, Honor 9, and Honor 10.
The Honor 10 is made up of what Honor calls “Phantom Aurora Glass”. This multi-layered glass body is the result of a long evolution starting with the Honor 8. This phone catches light in a way that makes reflections bend and dance on your phone. It gives it a look that makes your phone appear to glow at times. There’s something about the all-glass body that makes it feel great to hold.
The Honor Play has a smooth metallic casing that fits around the phone’s hardware as one piece. The unibody design has chrome details around the camera lens and fingerprint sensor, imitating the same design we’ve seen in so many Honor phones.
Both designs of these phones seem like they’d only be found on much more expensive devices. The Honor 10 is clearly the more premium of the two phones with it’s superior build. For people who value the way their phone looks and feel above all else, the Honor 10 is the superior phone here.
Performance
This is where the gap between these phones is narrowed. With both devices equipped with a Kirin 970, 4GB of RAM, a Mali-G72 MP12 GPU and Honor’s GPU Turbo technology, their specs end up being identical.
Both phones were tested using several different benchmark apps and consistently had very close results. Both phones had 4GB of RAM.
Unsurprisingly, both phones pulled almost the same results in most benchmark apps. Most of the time, the Honor Play comes out on top by just a fraction. In all categories, whether it’s UX, game performance, web browsing, ect., these phones are equal.
The Honor Play has a larger battery than the Honor 10 with a 3750mAh capacity vs. a 3400mAh capacity. The Honor Play will give you more battery life with a 94 hour endurance rating while the Honor 10 offers a 74 hour endurance rating.
The win in this category goes to the Honor Play, since the phone is $200 less than the Honor 10. This is where the Honor Play, as a much cheaper phone, is offering flagship performance that can compete with much more expensive devices.
Camera
While both phones have Honor’s AI technology built into their cameras, the Honor 10 has a significantly better pair of sensors. The Honor 10 has a 16MP+24MP setup and the Honor Play has a 16MP+2MP setup. The Honor 10 has a 24MP selfie camera and the Honor Play has a much smaller 16MP selfie camera.
The AI technology in the Kirin 970 helps the phone’s camera detect what type of scene you’re shooting and adjust the settings appropriately. Look at these photo samples from both phones. You’ll notice the Honor Play is much more saturated, while the Honor 10 has more true-to-life colors.
The Honor 10 ends up having the better cameras out of the two phones.
Conclusion
In the several categories where the Honor 10 performs better than the Honor Play, you have to ask yourself if the better features are worth the extra $200 in price. In my opinion, it’s not. The Honor Play is clearly the better value here at its absurdly low price of $277. The fact that you can get the flagship Kirin 970 chipset in a phone that costs the same as 277 items from the dollar menu at McDonalds… Well that’s just a good deal.

But these companies are not the only smartphone’s maker in the market, but there are also strong Chinese companies have a significant weight in the market of smartphones, and among those companies that became a strong competitor is Huawei, a leader in the field of networking and smartphones as well.
Huawei unveiled its latest smartphones during an event on 16 October in Munich, Germany. The new smartphones that have been announced are Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro.
In this post we will show the most 7 amazing features in Huawei Mate 10 will make you buy it :
1- New dual camera supported by artificial intelligence
The phone comes with a dual camera in back, a 20-megapixel lens with a monochrome black and white sensor, & a 12-megapixel camera with a basic colour sensor, which will make night photography, focus and camera performance better and faster.
The camera comes with artificial intelligence, in the effects of bake and in digital zoom, the recognition of scenes and objects supported by artificial intelligence that automatically adjust the camera’s capabilities according to objects or scenes.
2. PC mode
Samsung was the first to integrate this feature in its phones, you can transform your phone into a computer once you connect to the screen. Huawei has also integrated this idea into its new phones, but the advantage of Samsung is that it will not need any additional component, only the phone Huawei Mate 10 and cable.
3. Quick translation with artificial intelligence

Huawei is the first phone in the world to support the use of two 4G handsets and dual-voice communication via VoLTE.
5. Processor supports artificial intelligence
Most companies tend to integrate processors from Qualcomm or Mediatek on their phones, but Huawei is different. It manufactures processors for their phones. The Kirin 960 processor built into its phone, “Mate 9,” has a good rating, especially when it comes to graphics and games that require powerful hardware.
In its new phones, Huawei has also integrated this Kirin 970 processor into it, with the advantage of artificial intelligence. This processor is the first of its kind equipped with smart intelligence for smartphones, which includes a special operating unit “NPU” This processor can learn the method of your users and applications that you use more and improves the performance of the device based on it.
6- Battery and fast charging
The new Huawei battery may be stronger than other competing smartphones like Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone X.
The battery that Huawei supplied in this smartphone is a 4000 mAh.This capacity lasts for a full day of intensive use and two days in normal use

one of the fun things about this phone is the dynamic backgrounds, which change as the time changes during the day. You will see a picture in the morning and another for example in the middle of the day and then change at night.

Why the OnePlus 6 is one of XDA's favorite gaming phones of 2018 (Sponsored)

Why the OnePlus 6 is one of XDA's favorite gaming phones of 2018
The OnePlus 6 is here and we at XDA have been testing it and sharing our thoughts with you on the portal. Our research has shown that this phone is the best gaming phone of 2018 so far. OnePlus tagged the OP6 with the slogan "The Speed You Need" and this proves to be true.
Powered by the Snapdragon 845 and options for 6 or 8GB of RAM, this is the fastest phone on the market right now. The Adreno 630 GPU makes the most recent games like PUBG run effortlessly at 30FPS, which is the max framerate for the game. There is also a noticeable improvement in game load-times. We tested Asphalt 8, and PUBG load times against the OnePlus 5T and here are the results:
Asphalt app launch time:
OnePlus 5T: 5.18 seconds
OnePlus 6: 4.95 seconds
PUBG app launch time:
OnePlus 5T: 19.79 seconds
OnePlus 6: 17.98 seconds
This performance extends to the UI as well. OnePlus always goes with a near-stock Android experience. They are constantly optimizing their software to ensure the smoothest UX possible. Navigating your phone results in very few dropped frames and animations that are quick and lag-free.
"The Adreno 630 featured in the OnePlus 6’s Snapdragon 845 is actually one of the beefiest specification upgrades this new flagship brings. This GPU features a revamped architecture, with Qualcomm claiming a 30% boost to graphics performance and 30% in power reduction (at the same level of performance as last 2017’s Snapdragon 835), something which we were able to verify in our Snapdragon 845 hands-on earlier this year." - Mario Serrafero

With up to 8GB of RAM, the OnePlus 6 has the same great RAM management that we have seen in previous phones. We were able to load forum mobile games and have them remain in memory (in particular, Asphalt 8, Lineage II: Revolution, PUBG and Modern Combat 5), so gamers should appreciate the additional RAM even if the number of apps that can be held at any given time is limited.
"The OnePlus 6 certainly feels extremely fast, and when you do try and measure its speed for improvements you can also find some small steps forward. I get to use multiple phones every year, and often carry two phones at any given time — I get to notice the speed advantage every day, even if it’s not always that significant. For example, while I’ve grown fond of my Galaxy Note 8 (which brought its fair share of improvements) the difference between that and the OnePlus 6 is clear and immediate the moment I switch phones. I’m not just talking app launch speeds here, either, it’s an advantage that permeates the user experience. This is an area where OnePlus has been consistently surpassing competitors, and that’s almost become popular knowledge with reviews, YouTube speed tests and user feedback all agreeing on the matter."- Mario Serrafero

Question Buy the Bootloader Unlocked Snapdragon version from Hong Kong or China?

Since there's noticeable quality and heating drawbacks for the Exynos version, and the US version is bootloader locked, and not having root = you don't own the device, I'm wondering if anyone from outside asia has any experience or recommendations for buying this phone from HK or China, to get the unlocked snapdragon version.
Has anyone done this? I looked on amazon.jp and it seems some s21 ultras are listed as having snapdragons, but user comments say they ordered them and received exynos versions.
Cheers.
I assume china won't have google services but maybe HK does?
[EDIT/SOLVED]
Ok, so confirmed by users, there are a couple online shops that ship from hk to eu, even without extra VAT, and confirmed to ship with HK firmware. I don't know about all the codes, but seems at very least the G9980ZHU***** ones are HK firmware. I won't paste shops here since it seems people aren't so it might be against the rules.
Definitely don't recommend buying from China as you'd then have to flash the HK firmware to replace the china one or else you won't have certain features, but the HK version has everything working (only thing is samsung pay may be locked to HK according to some reports but I don't care, also maybe you could flash an eu samsung pay app especialy with root, idk).

how about do some video quality and photo quality side by sides... Also thermal throttling is a thing. It's pretty much like comparing a cpu from amd with a cpu from intel. It can't be "the same".
BTW my question was 99% about where to find x not let's argue about differences Maybe I'm just a fan of this snapdragon chip I keep hearing everyone is so proud of in all their flagships, regardless of how good exynos is. Blame marketing as well as sustained benchmarks. I'm all for competition in the hardware space but maybe next year idk; seems it's been catching up at least compared to last gen's exynos vs last gen's SD, but not quite within the "Ultra" paygrade yet.
Hongkong and China model are the same Snapdragons. They only differ in csc that you can change with samkey!

TL;DR I'm not paying Ultra money for "everything fine". I appreciate Exynos got less ****, but it's not "ultra".
1. his video shows at least one 888 is better, in performance, sustained performance, and thermals; and the other is the same. Whereas the exynos chips go from bad to the same. I'm buying a no compromise "Ultra" 1000+$ phone, not an almost as good phone. And snapdragon is either better architected or better optimized for in games, see the PUBG comparison for 40fps at lower quality vs 60fps at high quality on the snapdragon.
2. why the f is he taking thermal camera readings after the chips cooled down and they're already at 35 degrees? If you have a thermal gun, show uncut footage of running benchmarks 10 times in a row, showing thermals during workload. And which of the 2 snapdragons is he testing against for the rest of the video? My money's on the slightly underperforming one.
3. He took photos without the scene optimizer. Which would run better on SD. But even so the results are better on SD.
4. I am buying snapdragon because of the technologies on the chip. It's the difference between having DLSS and more mature raytracing on an Nvidia GPU and having an AMD GPU except much more pronounced because it's also tied to modem, image processor, and other SoC specifics.
And again, maybe you don't like my points, cool, then blame the snapdragon marketing, and the broad industry marketing that teaches us to make no compromises and get the best of the best at crazy prices and then oops you're locked into a compromise. If the exynos is better, don't ship with snapdragon.
PS: Here's some comments from that video:
"I've just re-ran my tests and still get the Snapdragon far ahead, unlike what you're getting. One interesting thing is that across every reviewer's testing I've seen, the Snapdragon seems to be performing similarly, but the Exynos models seem to have more variance between them. Some people's Exynos phones ARE getting really hot and slow like mine did, and other people are finding that their Exynos phones are doing just fine" - Mrwhosetheboss
"Its called silicon quality. It shows that some Exynos chips have very bad silicon quality which means they heat more and are more likely to throttle harder. And it also shows that Snapdragon is more consistent with the quality of their silicon."
Maybe it's a lottery and you should hate less Exynos. Mine is perfect and ahead of many S21U SD888.

Not everything is black and white. There are several factors that can impact performance and raw power. I can guarantee to you what I know from MY OWN experience and I'm very happy with mine.
Plus, last updates increased dramatically the cameras and battery life of exynos version. SD888 variant is better at video recording but E2100 is better at zoom and details in photos.
Buy whatever you want, just don't talk as you know how it is because you don't know. You don't have one. I have. They are both similar.

Worth it to buy a new Note 9 in 2022?

Hi all,
I can get my hands on a new Samsung Note 9. Is it still worth it to buy a new Note 9 in 2022?
Samsung has stopped releasing updates for this device and Android is stuck on version 10.
Could get the Note 10 plus, but will cost me twice the price and I really miss the 3.5mm jackplug on the Note 10.
Thanks!
Get the N10+ N975U or N975U1 and a pair of Buds+. Preferred Android 9 or 10. Security is not an issue.
The N10+ is an exponentially faster and a more powerful Note than the N9. Night and day difference. The N10+ has the best display in the business; excellent color calibration/accuracy/white point/gamma calibration. Extremely reliable and long lived with excellent build quality. I have two, the oldest has over 8k hours on it, still running on Pie, current load is over 2yo. It runs like a bat out of hell, looks, feels and runs like it was new. The display is still flawless. It's the only Samsung flagship I recommend. It's just fun to use and snappy fast.
New ones can still be had for around $650-700 loaded with Q. Buy only from reliable, trusted vendors!!!
Note 10+ is still one of my favorite devices. I also have a Note 9 and as Blackhawk stated night and day. The 9 is still a good device, but 10+ more bang for your buck.
@Niek_66
Still using my N9 as daily driver, and have it updated to June 2022.
Phone and apps (no e-mail or browser installed) do not connect via wi-fi, and have it locked down w/ NetGuard and phone settings.
Charge lasts about 2 to 3 days.
Samsung makes an adapter for the 3.5mm jack to USB-Type C that can be used on the N10+.
Unless you want to have access to scan/listen to local radio stations w/ an app such as NextRadio, and depending on your "security threat," you may want to purchase the N10+.
The N10+ can be updated to Android 12 and is still receiving security updates.
Hi,
Thanks for all the replies!
I can buy a new Note 10 plus but currently way to expensive. Also looking at the S22 Ultra and this one also has a high price tag.
I can't compare the Note 9 to the 10 but I still find my Note 9 fast enough. Don't play many games on it and mainly use it for internet and watch YouTube videos. The stylus I use a lot!
Think I will wait a while and keep using my Note 9.

Play with an N10+ side by side with the N9. The N9 is a nice Note. I considered getting one at one point. The N10+ is a noticeable upgrade in overall speed and performance. After the N10+ Samsung has issues with all their flagships. They abandoned expandable storage after the humped back N20U. The problems don't end there; all variable refresh rate displays have color/gamma accuracy/calibration issues and high failure rates. Build quality and QC appears to be an issue now with Samsung.
Be default I would do exactly what you chose to do, nothing. The N9 is a good device with a excellent AMOLED display. The only reason I got my first N10+ was my S4+ display was nearly dead. No choice. I lucked out. Don't place yourself in that situation; make a well informed decision ahead of failure of your current device.
Samsung has been dropping the ball since the N10+. Their next generation will likely suck too but Samsung may clean up their act although this seems unlikely at this point. Multiple poor decisions for 3 years straight by Samsung.
They continue to throw money at the Fold series while neglecting their Note series (yeah, they even forgot their name).
Samsung is a mess now...

Have had the Exynos 512GB Note9 since March 2020, 0 complains. Also if you care for latest updates there is NobleROM which is currently on OneUI 4.1 and Android 12, might get OneUI 5 and Android 13 soon too. The phone is fast, has all the nice useful features like headphone jack, micro sd card, Bixby button (I use it as a mute switch, don't hate xd), iris scanner, physical fingerprint scanner, no interruptions on the display. Never changed my battery and still lasts forever (I do charge it between 30% and 80% most of the time) without any effort on my side to save it, I use the phone whenever and for whatever I need to. I say grab the Note9, it's a great phone and will be great for years to come.

I've used 2 note 10 plus and I'm currently using 512gb 8gb ram note 9. I can tell you there is definitely a difference in performance in major graphics games but in normal use case there's no difference. I prefer note 9 because people had issues hearing me with my note 10 plus when making calls with my left ear. Note 10 plus is really good, but I prefer this version of note 9. Somehow note 9 battery lasts longer too. I put it on high performance all day no heat no problem. Snapdragon version btw. Camera quality is also close. I really can't complain

Question Upgrading Mi 11 Ultra --> Xiaomi 13 Pro

Is anyone thinking about upgrading Mi 11 Ultra to Xiaomi 13 Pro ?
I've skipped 12S Ultra as there were not many new things, and not much difference in camera quality.
Today I find out there is Xiaomi 13 Pro released globally, there are already some reviews and battery tests

Cant complain on my Mi 11 Ultra overall, the only complaint I have is about customs ROM, not much of them, but for globally released phone I think there is more chance to get more customs ROM for it ? I'm right on this ?

The source code for the Xiaomi 13 pro is not yet available unlike the Xiaomi 12 pro for example, which has been available since December 2021.
There is already not a single rom for the 12 pro 8 Gen1 while the kernel dates from December 2021.
In my opinion several obstacles, incomplete Kernel ***, the completely new fingerprint part ***, the soc, price.
(***confirmed by developers).
Maybe it's the soc, for devices over a year old brands like One Plus or Samsung no AOSP rom too.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1

it has
Spoiler: CAMERA
If you skipped 12s Ultra because not much difference in camera quality, then you'll definitely want to skip 13 Pro which is a downgrade. You're getting much worse ultrawide and telephoto sensors (they are much smaller and also 3.2x vs 5x), and though the main sensor is marginally better, you're losing the mod support. Mi 11 Ultra has a full resolution RAW unlocker which gives 50MP RAW photos from GCam. It's questionable if the 13 series will ever get it since the 12 series still don't. This is what still makes the 11 Ultra the best camera system.
If cameras are a secondary thought to you, then yeah it may be worth upgrading, since the new chipset is really good. Performance, battery life, no overheating, that's all great. Development is just unknown yet, but judging by the 12 series it may not be great.
