Samsung Galaxy Note9’s new Software update Fixes the HDR issue on Camera - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey, is there anyone who has got this new update?????

The article I read said it was seen in Germany. We'll probably get it next year.

I got it this evening. Denmark. NEE product code.
/CK

Duplicate thread and source not read. Probably testing German market, then I would venture more of EU before more regions rolled out. And no mention of snapdragon as I'm quite sure Germany is F/Exynos note9.

HDR issue?

This morning I installed the new update N960FXXU2ARI9. the general stability has worsened and the phone seems to be weighed down ..

Why all the ????? Only one is required.
And no, nothing yet in Australia.

Can you be more specific?
And what about the camera improvements? Anything superior to what was already there?

Unfortunately I use very little camera ... I have no idea. as for the problems I opened a thread ... forced closings and sometimes the phone is blocked without being able to interact and you have to wait a few seconds. I think that in the day I will do a hard reset and see if the problem is in substratum or other small mods made

Got the update yesterday for 960F/DS from Taiwan. HDR does seem to emphasize the shadows more, but for me the effect seems too exaggerated now. There's still some shutter lag under some situations with auto mode compared to pro mode.

Based on people's reviews, I don't want this update now ?

Slight improvement
Flashed mine yesterday with the German version (I'm in the UK). HDR in outdoor shots with cloudy sky definitely seem improved. Still finding it a very disappointing camera though. Auto has real difficulty focusing on moving objects and even the slightest slow movement results in a blurry image. I take lots of photos of our dogs and I'm really struggling to get anything useable. Which is not a problem I had anywhere near as much on the iPhone X.

Camera focusing issues, clicking and flickering picture

The camera on my one started playing up the other week, At first it only did it a little and i wasn't sure what was happening. Yesterday however it did it a few times including whilst shooting a video. It seems something might be up with the autofocus system. It doesn't do it all the time, I haven't yet been able to identify any one situation which triggers it either.
Anyway, have a look at the video, it will be clear to see what i'm talking about.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm holding out for 2.2.2 before I jump to too many conclusions.. but it doesn't look good.

Sorry to say mate but my One has never done that, not in video nor in the viewfinder. Seems you might have faulty auto focus?

That's the same problem as has been reported in several other threads, except you are in an early state. It will get worse, so that finally the auto focus will not work anymore at all.
I had the same problem. You need to replace the phone.

Sorry to say so, but it definitely looks exactly as the other reported issues (and the one I had). It's a hardware defect. The op can probably wait for some time till it gets worse (which it will) to decide whether to have it replaced or not.
Btw it is temperature dependent in the beginning. You will have less problems when the phone is cold and more when it is warm. Later, when it has gotten worse, temperature won't make a difference anymore.
That was the fastest auto focusin i ever saw lol , anyway could be your sensor is faulty , just swap it with another one

what's your problem my friend
i don't agree it's a mistake, actually the best thing on my One
never had guaranteed good looking usable pictures in all situations before
as for the problem in the OP, most likely a fault OIS module
oh and the world doesn't agree with you either, mostly the ultrapixel was very well regarded
you forgot about the very narrow filed of view and much slower shutter on the s4 (regardless of exposure time, i am talking about processing), you will understand when you use it, right now it feels so great in your head only
oh and you can speed up your low light shutter using ZOE mode if you like at the expense of light ofcourse

I agree. The camera is great (despite this problem i'm having).
I guess i'll have to look at getting it repaired/exchanged. Should I go to HTC in Sweden (where I live) or to the shop (handtec, in the UK). I do worry that as the problem is intermittent, that it will work perfectly when they test it and return it as it is. I'm also concerned about getting a replacement device without the nice HD microphone.

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help please. Just took delivery of my z1 and the pictures look absolutely terrible. It's current set to superior auto but every photo looks so grainy on screen. Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Yes, I'm less than impressed with mine - certainly nowhere near dslr level as they were touted. I get a lot of noise on mine and they are over exposed.
If you manually focus with camera button then take pic, results are somewhat better but still disappointing.
Could you please post some of the pics you've taken please? The reason I got rid of my LG Optimus G was because of the subpar camera, been waiting for the Z1, so I'd hope it's not a lateral move on the camera front

yeah same here...photos appear washed out in low light..also a lot of purple grains appear when attempting to take a photo in low light...for a flagship device which touts camera as its biggest selling point z1 is a massive disappointment...also the microphone did not work for me while connecting the phone to a headphone without a mike...ill be going to sony service centre on monday...hopefully they'll replace my unit..will update whether the other unit's camera is better...
Guys, do we have any informed update about the camera low quality issue? Is it an early release issue which will be fixed by an update or should I return my phone and get another one in a couple of months?
Please share your input because I am really skeptic about this otherwise excellent device.
Use Manual mode with Night setting
I've come across a lot of people complaining about the camera not giving out noise-free images like it's supposed to. The trick is to use manual mode. I agree, if you use Superior Auto mode, it's a miss most of the times, and when it does work, it gives a purple-ish tint at the corners.
However, If you use manual mode and select the SCENE to NIGHT, the images come out amazing and noise-free!
[DO NOT JUDGE THE IMAGE BY WHAT THE VIEWFINDER SHOWS YOU. A lot of things happen when you press the shutter button. The viewfinder simply goes red for making it easy to focus. The final image in the gallery is a hundred times better]
The Scene modes are one of the most commonly ignored settings.
I hope this helps!
Sorry. Most people just want to use auto mode and haven't got time to fiddle here and there.
The scenes help but they are not the cure in that the underlying problem of poor quality is there. I wonder if people who post either are using a different software version, or are being paid by Sony to post positive remarks.
Nor is it acceptable that we should resort to using alternative camera apps. This phone cost £600 or up to.
It should work as advertised on the tin.

Did anyone face auto-focus issues? Sometimes the camera stuggles to auo focus..
No focus issues on mine, just horrible, grainy images. really really unimpressed with the camera. If this is a firmware issue then I am really unimpressed that they saw fit to release it in this state.
Example's here - note the complete lack of any detail, the grainy over compressed background. Zoom in slightly and see the over sharpening that has been done, the bike frame goes jagged.
The camera was one of the reasons I bought this phone, and in its current state, I declare it 'unusable'

Hi Nigel,
I appreciate your frustrations. I have just moved onto the Z1 after holding onto my old but trust worthy Galaxy S2 and after the expense and hype surrounding the release feel let down by the camera as well. Suggestions seem that issues may be resolved once further firmware updates come about, not sure how soon these will happen though.

I said the photos in http://scratch.veletron.com/z1 are my examples of the Z1, not in any other folder on that site. Go look at the properties in the files in http://scratch.veletron.com/z1 and you will see 'C6903' as the camera model.
Some numpty then went and picked up some pics from some ancient ebay auctions on the same site, and claimed that I reckoned these were taken by the Z1. Know your facts Geoffxx !! You are making yourself look like a right amateur!
Since taking the pics in http://scratch.veletron.com/z1 , I have added some 100% crops of the same pics.
Oh, and its no good looking at the pics on your phone, if you want to see their true ugliness quality-wise, look at them on a PC.

Blurry camera issue?

Hey i purchased the phone yesterday and I'm experiencing some issues with the camera.
Photos are turning out quite blurry when using auto mode, when i use manual mode and set the ISO to my liking its better
problem is for example when I'm taking a photo with whatsapp camera its using the auto setting and its blurry.
I've heard that its a known software issue on oxygen os 4.0.3 is there a rom that solves this issue? or any solution to this?
Oneplus support told me that they are working on a solution although a temporary fix would be nice.
Thank you for answers
Same issue for me on oos 4.1.3

Are you talking about relatively low light (such as indoors, with artificial lighting on the dimmer side) and possibly with moving subject (kids, etc.)?
If so, yes it's a known issue to some degree. Results will vary a bit depending on the amount of light, how still the subject as (and as you mentioned using Manual mod) but not completely out of line with some smartphones or even "regular" cameras (such as my Canon T6i DSLR). I think some folks are comparing to smartphones like iPhone and S7/8 which cost twice as much, and have insanely fast autofocus. And you simply aren't going to get that on a phone that costs what the 3T does (they had to scale the cost somehow).
The last few updates have listed in the changelog "Improved picture taking of moving objects with blur reduction" so it's something OP is working on. But I can't say it's been a significant improvement. Maybe slightly better, can't even say for sure (might even be placebo effect). If you are still on 4.0.3, it's certainly worth updating (don't see any reason not to update) to see if it helps at all. But don't expect a huge improvement.
If you are talking something more than described above, such as blurry photos even with good light or still subject, you may be looking at a more significant issue (broken auto focus, etc.).

I have the same issue bud... it wasn't like that when I bought it. It's been 1 or 2 months since I'm facing this thing. People say replacing the camera module helped em, try doing that. I haven't replaced it yet tho don't have the time and money for that....if you do find a solution (software fix) then please lemme know too
You can get it replaced for free. OnePlus has acknowledged this issue and I went and got mine done. An important thing to note is that my phone has been out of warranty since 3 months and I got my camera replaced a couple of weeks ago, so even if your phone is out of warranty, they will still do it for free. You might have to bear labor charges which luckily I didn't have to pay because they were celebrating OnePlus week. Try sending your phone to them via the OnePlus service App. Talk to the customer care, they will help you figure something out. But you don't have a choice but to replace the camera module altogether.
me too,i m facing the same blurry problem.i m on beta 30 the latest and last update from oneplus for 3T.

Yeah I haven't had any issues at all. And I've done super slow more, 4k, 60fps, you name it. Not a stutter. And I've tried it on a 128GB model and two 512GB models. You either have some software or hardware issues.
Make sure if you're using an SD card that it's fast enough to keep up with the Note 9s video capacity. This is the main reason I went with the 512gb variant.
This is a well-known widespread defect of the Note9, affecting perhaps more than 10% of users. There's a 70-page thread about it on Samsung's support site: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...ns-and/Note-9-camera-freezes/m-p/389761#M1811 .
A recent firmware update (ARL1) may possibly address the problem, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Camera quality is very disappointing. Doing smt wrong??

Bought this phone yesterday. I'm new to Samsung. I had seen and read a lot of reviews and articles, and all were very positive about the camera, but in my experience its very disappointing. Especially the front facing camera. It's always blurry, and what is up with all that smoothing out??? Even when it's off it just does the same. I haven't changed any special settings. After looking for a solution I see that I'm not the only one experiencing this. Is this just a question of taste, or is there really something "broken" at the moment with this camera?? I'm really considiring returning this phone. 1000€ and this is the picture quality I get?
I paid considerably less than 1000€ a week after launch, I think I'd return it if I paid that much. I've had some good photos from the camera and also less impressive ones, it seems Pro mode is the place to be.
Yes the selfie cam sucks. Too much post processing causing the smoothing effect. I'm not an Instagram model, I don't need to look airbrushed.
The rear shooters though can produce some really nice pics.
It's the software that causes issues. The hardware is solid.
The other option is to download GCam which uses Google's HDR Processing from the Pixel devices. It produces really nice photos. Some GCam builds have Night Sight working as well.
You might find this link useful for installing GCam, it seems to be a bit hit and miss, the camera works for a little while and then just force closes every time it's launched.

I hear the point about Gcam download as an option but I really feel I should not need to download additional software to make up for Samsung's lapses. We buy this device cos we love it and desperately want it to work, guess Samsung makes them only to get our money... not rocket science who the real losers are !

Now if these problems can be fixed with future updates that would be great, but is there communication from Samsung about this? And can this be fixed with (near) future updates.

It's been hit and miss too for me, coming from a Pixel 2 XL.
Things are considerably better since I use the Arnova's Gcam port (better than my Pixel 2 XL in fact), and it made me realize Samsung's app/post-processing is the issue, not the Note 9 camera/sensor
Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board and do something about that agressive, over the top post-processing. Like I said, Gcam produces way better, more natural looking like pics, and most of all, they're not blurry (faster shutter time with Gcam maybe?)

Have you tried the one via official XDA

Is there difference with the Arnova port?

More features like Advanced HDR+ and Night Sight are working for me with Arnova's builds vs the one you just posted.

Can you post some sample pics? This phone is consistently rated as one of the top cameras on the market and I have to say that I'm not disappointed. In good conditions it's hard to say that it's any worse than my DLSR with expensive lenses. Night shots are excellent too. If your rear camera is as bad as you claim, perhaps there is a hardware problem? The front camera does apply a lot of post processing (which I'm not a fan of either) but you can turn most of it off.
TLDR: either you have an actual hardware problem or insanely high expectations, the camera on this phone is just about the best on the market. When I say that it comes close to my DSLR, I'm not kidding.

I added a screenshot. Do you install the first one or the second one?
Edit: the first one force closes every time, and the second one doesn't have all options it seems, like night vision en HDR+

That's the one you want: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.3d_TlnNeun_2.apk
If it force-closes on launch, that's because it was installed over an older version, just clear data + cache and relaunch, it will work
Reading some of these comments . . . The stock camera app takes fantastic looking pictures IF the subject is not moving. Try taking a picture of your kid or pet doing anything BUT standing still and the photo is a blurred mess. Wish the shutter speed was faster smh not holding my breath on Samsung fixing it thru an update

Use Pro mode if you want to be able to specify your shutter speed, I find the raw's are pretty good once they've had some basic touch-ups.
