Oreo Release Thread - Moto G5S Guides, News, & Discussion

Finally this has arrived for RETGB!
Currently running the install and will let you know how this goes.
Where else has had this released?
Who is still waiting?
What is the verdict, worthwhile keeping at stock or see what good ROMS will come from this?

This is ridiculous. No more Lenovorola from me. Everyone's got Oreo and some phones from other brands have even gone to Pie, but reteu is still behind. Tragic support compared to when it was owned by Google (my XT1032 got updated before the Nexus phones of the time).

Yeah. This is oddly funny. I said no more Motorola after the Atrix fiasco (Android 2.3...... ICS was never released, they promised it... and then the Testing image got leaked.....)
Yet, I've owned another Moto phone, which won't have Android 8.1. But this phone is still good with Nougat. Can't complain.
Got a Nexus 5x from google. New. Turns out it had a hardware failure on all models just a year after the release.
Got a Nexus 4. After a year of usage, just upgraded to Lollipop. Phone started rebooting on its own randomly. Some users have this issue as well.
I don't believe on the manufacturers anymore. My next phone will be a Nokia (and I'll fail for sure)

The Lenovo forums for the 5GS and the 5GS+ are full of VERY annoyed reports on WiFi loss problems after upgrading to 8.1 - so far, these obviously all relate to non-RETEU update channels. Lenovo apparently never officially reacted to these complaints, but several people there seem to have dumped their 5GS/+ phones after the update out of frustration.
So, do those of you who already have updated to 8.1 see any problems with WiFi connections dropping (while connected to a 4G network)? The 'cure' for that seemed to be to disable 4G connections...
What with battery life after the update?
Thanks! Markus68

Can not test this for you, because I have no 4G Network, only 3G.

Dear friends
Searching the internet, I saw two roms, fi project and the normal project. I would like to know the best way to use it and if there is a difference. I ask this because I use the project fi and noticed a better stability and speed on the phone, but the security patch is not current like another rom. Thanks and hugs
Payton Fi is the Android One version, only receive updates if your software channel is retus, the other one is the international retail ROM, have more modifications than the Fi version.

stuck on October 2017 update

How do i find or where do i look to update to feb , march , april? Im just curious , it says im up to date, obviously i am not?
Hmm what firmware do you have on your device? Having a search on the Reddit motog pages, seems that the XT1806 is on the NPS26.116-48 series of firmwares https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/8otvt2/april_security_update_for_moto_g5s_plus_retail_us/ Looks like the April 2018 OTA to NPSS26.116-48-15 is the latest?
Seems that some retUS devices also shipped with NPS26.116-45, I'm not sure what update path they took, maybe merged to the NPS26.116-48 series of updates? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74352527&postcount=43

Hmm, looks like your device is on the incorrect firmware - I found this link from Republic Wireless indicating that NPSS26.116-48-15 is the April 2018 security patch for US devices: https://forums.republicwireless.com/t/system-update-for-moto-g5s-05-23-18/19234
Though I've not found the April 2018 firmware, here's links to the NPSS26.116-48-12 and NPSS26.116-45-12 firmwares (March 2018 security patch)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76070231&postcount=24
However, I'm not sure as to the differences between the two firmwares - they've both been deployed to XT1806 devices from what I've read. It seems the NPSS26.116-48-12 build was the more commonly deployed? Fully flashing one of these firmwares should get you OTA updates to the April 2018 security patch. I'm hoping that someone with a US device can comment further.

Again, I don't know what the difference is between the 45-12 and the 48-12 firmwares - however, the 48-12 firmware appears to be more commonly mentioned, so you may be okay with the 48-12 firmware? Good luck whichever you decide.
Ill try the 48 today, havent had tge time, i too looked at both and really dont see any difference, tge firmware im using worjs fine and i have no issues just no ota, i initially bricked this phone, but ived never trully bricked an ardoid phone in my life , i lost recovery thus time and the OS, but with adb fastboot , i was back in business in a matter of minutes, just needed to find A firmware

It looks like a new firmware is coming (T700 only so far)

Sammobile has posted a number of regional T700 firmwares in the recent few weeks. The firmware patch level is from summer 2017, but it was built this summer. Bizarre, isn't it? Very un-samsung-like to release an update to four year old tablet. However, if they do release an update why not use the most recent Marshmallow AOSP codebase (I believe from r81 from October 2017) instead of summer of 2017?
Anyways, if this is not a hoax, I hope the T800 version would be coming some time as well.

I got my T800 Updated this morning. It was a France model and the version of the update is T800XXU1CRH1 dated august 2018 with august 2017 security.
The update says it was for the european GDPR law. So maybe just the euro models will be updated.
Got the update too. Confirm it says it is for GDPR. A whole update only for this? OK the security update is there, but they never bothered to keep it updated in that sense

Oh, that's disappointing. This means that these updates won't extend beyond Europe. Sammobile shows now that there is also an update for T800 (France only so far). I guess Samsung won't do a real miracle for our tablets, as in providing an up to date security patch level.
A new firmware was now also published for the T705 (TGY = Hongkong):

Just got a prompt for an update on my 5 year Samsung sm-t800 in th UK. Its 253mb and I guess there is no improvement just a load of help files and data protection warnings in the os I guess. Does anyone know what is exactly in it..?
Heard a very strange 'ding' from my T800 (U.S WiFi only model) just now, and sure enough a new software update window was on the screen. At first I was thinking it was a 'fake' splash page since I had Chrome open, but alas it was not.
Firmware T800XAR1CRI5 @14.89MB.
Their last update was over a year and a half ago for this tablet, and it seems they are releasing an patch every year or so. (v6.01 09/2016, then patch 6.01 4/2017, and now patch 6.01 11/2018). So this original Tab S 10.5 is almost 5 years old and still getting security patches each year.
Also, I'm a bit baffled since I had 'Scheduled Software Updates' set to 'Off' and it still got it.

According to Sammobile, the Security Patch level of this firmware is only 2016-11-01. So, either this update is for something other than security patches, or Samsung does not report the patch level correctly. If the patch level is truly only at 2016-11-01 level, then this update does not address some of the famous security problems from recent times, such as the KRACK or Spectre. So I won't be pulling this firmware because my ROM is already modified, but I might use the new ROM if I decide to start from fresh setup.
Just got a notification for the US version on t-700. I'll flash in the morning. If I notice anything meaningful, I'll report back here.
Before and after, for your comparison. Kernel was updated, and SE as well. I'm guessing patching vulnerabilities there.

Even worse for me, it installed itself without my permission overnight without even a prompt. I don't have updates on just like you.
I notice the kernel version has a new date but is exactly the same version and build.
Seems strange that Samsung would push an update to such an old tablet. Hopefully they aren't trying to drum up sales for the S4 by breaking something.

Only time worth taken a OTA is if it gets a upgrade to Pie..I'm not upgrading from my DU 8.1 until then..
Don't need Pie, I really like oreo. But there is no much difference. So, let Pie come to us. Few bug fixes here and there. But maybe better wait for possible 9.0.1. We will see what we see.

Pie also don't concern me specially when im going to lose the themes:crying: My Major concerns are the bugs which are lying here and there , such as no audio offloading (16bit & 24bit and video) which makes music comes like a crap , no EQ apps can be used due to that. Bug in headphone icon indicator in status bar which doesn't show proper icon for headset with mic (eg.Apple Earpods)
I've been using Los 16 for a few days now and Pie is a huge difference!
Even the fonts have changed for the better. I can't go back to Oreo now. Pie is so much better!
