Xiaomi Mi8 Pro v Xiami Mi8 Pro Explorer Edition - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Is there any difference between the 8GB Pro and the Explorer Edition?
I had assumed not... but I'm reading some reports that suggest the Pro just has infrared face sensing while the Explorer Edition has 3D sensing face detection. Anyone able to confirm this...?

You are right. I'm an owner of Mi8 UD (so called Mi8 Pro edition), and the only difference between Mi8 EE and Mi8 Pro is just the face sensing(As confirmed by Xiaomi staff in ShenZhen China). Mi8 Pro uses infrared face sensing only, while Mi8 EE uses both infrared and 3D sensing

Can I ask? Which ROm are you on and do you think, there will be any development for Mi 8 Pro? I mean any treble project ROMs? Thanks

Would also be quite interested which ROM you are on and how your experiences have been so far.
I really wanna buy a Mi 8 Pro but am quite unsure how the China version works with a global ROM as I have never bought from China before.

I am on xiaomi.eu ROM 10.10.18. I am satisfied, but would like to see some more development for Mi8 Pro.

The Mi 8 is superior to the Honor 10 in every single way
If this is not a joke, than Mi8
Having p9 right now, after switching from mi4 I would say Huawei software support is pretty sucks. I would pick mi8 imo
I've had the Honor 10 directly after release for one week.
The display is just bad, the fingerprint scanner is laggy, the selfie cam is too shiny and had bad contrasts, some apps are only Snapdragon optimized so they are laggier then on my Snapdragon 820 based ZUK Z2 Pro.
After one week i've send it back to amazon and now i'm waiting for the Explorer Edition.
Have Honor 8 now. Think I may grab one of these as my next phone.
I have Huawei p20 pro, but using mi 8 for daily basis, its better than p20 pro in everything except the camera.
In my opinion Honor 10 has way more better Camera application. Switching camera modes in MIUI is very slow - have to swipe by one item.
And Honor 10 is smaller and that's a pro for me.
But globally Mi8 is a rocket and I'm happy with that phone.

Mi8 vs p20 Pro

Custom rom development is lacking on p20 Pro camera is obviously one drawback any other reason not to go with mi 8 I want to flash pixel experience as soon as I get the phone I'm getting it on three UK as a upgrade to my honor 8 any input would be much appreciated!
Anyone?
You wont be getting any luck with the P20 costum roms since Huawei somehow made the BL impossible to unlock. Camerawise the P20 pro is better in comparision to the Mi8 already excelent camera. The rest is pretty much the same. If costum roms is your priority then between the P20 or Mi8 I'd go for the Mi8.
Also the price. The Mi8 is much cheaper than the P20 Pro.

Xiaomi Mi 9T pro vs Realme X2 Pro

I'm looking for a new phone and it's come down to the Xiaomi mi 9t pro or Realme X2 pro. The Realme is a bit more expensive but looks better in all aspects except for the camera and custom ROMs.
For me the availability of stable custom ROMs is very important and currently there doesn't seem to be anything going on for the Realme X2 pro in comparison to the mi 9t pro which is a deal breaker for me.
Is this because the mi 9t pro has been out for 2 months longer or is it a general problem with the Realme X2 pro?

Why are you not considering the OnePlus 7T? If you're happy to pay the extra for the Realme, then the OnePlus is more or less the same phone (it's really just the camera modules that differ), but has much more community dev support.
Personally, I've moved away from OnePlus because I didn't like how they've continually moved their prices way north, but they are still the most developer friendly and have the most active developer community.

The realme is already a bit over budget and the oneplus is even more expensive and also without a headphone jack.

I'm the same as you, in that I won't buy a phone with no custom ROM development.
Having just looked at the Realme X20 Pro forum, there is zero development, only the legend Mauronofrio has provided a TWRP, but otherwise there's tumbleweed blowing through the dev section. Personally I wouldn't touch it as things stand. If you prefer the Realme and can wait, then hang on and see if things improve in a month or so.
You could also see what the Mi 10 brings (assuming that will be the next Mi phone), it can't be far off. Maybe Xiaomi will include UFS 3.0 and 90Hz, now their competitors are doing this I imagine Xiaomi will follow suit.
X2 Pro arrived very late, not many have bought it tbh, if they can release their next phone parallel to K30 pro then it will be fun. But for now if rather have K20 pro

MI 9 or Mi 9T Pro

I have to buy a new phone and have to choose between the Mi 9 of the Mi 9t pro. I prefer the 9t pro but red that they have stopped producing it, my question is: wil the mi 9t pro receive updates as long as the mi 9 or not ?

Actually, I think both are out of production.
Remember that Mi9 T Pro has been presented 6 months later Mi9, so Mi9 is the older one.
I have a Mi9, it's a good device, snapdragon 855 is super fast and every app work fine.
If I should buy a device today, I would go with the Mi9 T Pro, here are the main big advantages:
Newer
Bigger battery (4000 vs 3300)
Popup camera (Mi9 has a notch on the screen)
And about updates yes, quite similar.
Both are on MIUI 11 and will receive MIUI 12 in the next months. So, no difference.

And , better battery life too
none of them, go for the Mi 9 Pro 5G if you can find it...have many pro's over Mi9 and even more than Mi9T Pro.
Mi9 Pro 5G is a Mi9 with bigger battery and 5G, with the same wireless charging and IR blaster and AMOLED like Mi9, is a improved Mi9, if i know today i go for Mi9 PRo 5G and not Mi9 only because battery is gettin short, like 5/6h SoT after 9 months.
Hi.
I had Mi 9t pro and I switch to Mi 9.
Reasons Mi 9 has wireless charging, better set of camera. Wide camera has autofous. Very rare feature, awesome for macro photos. Better telephoto camera.
Worst battery, missing jack 3.5 (I do not care).
But because of smaller battery it has lower weight. 9TPro is little bit heavy.
Pop up camera on Mi 9t pro is good for uninterrupted display, but it is not so good for face recognition.
I do care for cameras and I really like wireless charging. So for me Mi 9 is better chooice
You can go for Mi 9 Pro instead. It's essentially Mi 9 with SD855+ and 700mAh bigger battery, the rest of the specs are similar if not the same.
The Mi 9T has a larger developer community.
I unlock using face detection, with mi9t pro that feature would be too slow/not practical

Question Oppo Reno5 5G camera vs Pro

Hi all,
Is there any difference between the Reno5 5G camera modules and Pro version of mobile?
For me main Camera is the main reason to purchase this device, and if they are the same in Pro version I don't see any reason paying +100$ (I don't care about curved screen/CPU/NFC).
Hey, Greetings. I am currently using the pro version of Oppo. The new Oppo F21 Pro. I think there is just a slight difference in features and enhancements. As you mentioned there is not a big difference. So we definitely should go for a lesser one.
