no stock roms? - Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite Questions & Answers

The Huawei mediapad m5 lite 10' is very appealing to me for it's quality/price. Don't see a reason why to spend extra 100€ for the m5 hardware.
Although I see there is not much going on here, on the forum. I can not find any stock roms.
My naive question is: would the roms for the m5 work on the m5 lite? have anyone tried it?

You're totally right, the hardware is great but the software makes it really frustrating to use.

CyanogenMod for the Huawei P9

Hi everyone,
I am aware that the P9 is still new but the OnePlus 3 was released at nearly the same time and there is already dev teams working on CM roms for the device. I'm also aware that roms for the Kirin chipsets are difficult to create.
I would be surprised if it came to the p9. As you said yourself, a lot harder on the Kirin chipset and probably not that many developers. The oneplus 3 has the 820 chip which has tons of developers which makes it easier.

Even if someone was working on it, I doubt it would be functional enough to use as a daily.

True.
The biggest fallback of this device is that issue. I hope they release some source codes to make it possible, but for some reason manufacturers often doesn't want to do it. I hope huawei will choose the right side and instead of killing this beauty after 2 years, let it live with the community development.
By the way, applauses for the Sony for the open xperia project.
This kinda works:

Port ROM emui (Honor 8 Manufacter), for our OnePlus3/3t

Hi!
Anybody have an idea how to port ROM emui (Honor 8 huawei Manufacturer), for our OnePlus3/3t ? Like Miui 8
Thanks.
probably not possible. Huawei does not like distributing any data about their software. They still havent released any kernel information. They use a completely different processor in the Honor 8 so itd be quite tough getting the honor 8 version of EMUI to work. Maybe EMUI 1 or 2 which use snapdragon processors would be easier but they are also very different. Besides its not made for western audiences to enjoy. It is strictly a chinese market so not many OP3T users would be okay with not having an app drawer. Believe me i used the Huawei Mate 8 before coming to the 3T. Super obscure phone with little development going on. I doubt anyone has really tried to pull EMUI off a Huawei phone ever for use in another. It is probably the worst software environment on any android phone. Not just saying that because it is my opinion on it but i noticed some horrid standby times along with no app drawer.
Emui is terrible UI.
Why you want it?
Basically speaking, I don't like EMUI.
My last phone was Huawei mate8 and it was also my last Huawei's phone. Why ? Because Huawei' ROM is rare people to develop and Huawei is hard to release its source code.
It's just like Xiaomi ... Common problem from China mobile company : Won't release their source code easily ...

I wish someone would port OxygenOS to the P9 Lite.

Hi.
I'm digging the P9 Lite but I am not so keen about EMUI. I had a OP2 for a short while but found it too big and the screen was terribly washed out, but I thought the OS was excellent.
I would love it for someone to port OxygenOS to the P9 Lite. Whether that would ever happen who knows.
That's impossible. Oxygen OS is proprietary to OnePlus and their devices.
If you don't profit from it and its based on Linux surely you can modify it and distribute it?

It's not that... Oxygen OS is only available to OnePlus devices.

Well, there are perfect phones everywhere and do have custom roms, plus maybe they seem useless to you but not to others.

I'm wondering that too. I think this situation might change if we get Oreo update. Hopefully it will bring project treble with it. That mean we would be able to run barebones (AOSP) version of Android. Soon after that there might be some member of this forum interested in cooking some decent ROM' s or porting one.
I don't understand this. If you don't like the skins that brands cover Android with, don't buy it. Buy a phone that has pure android instead of complaining about lack of ROMs.

Custom Rom?

Hi guys just want to ask why custom rom development in Zuk z2 pro is less if you compared it with z2 plus. I'm planning to buy zuk z2 pro because of amoled screen and 6gb ram.
Currently I have s7 edge that I used in banking apps and work but I want this phone just to satisfy my rooting desire.
Are there any available site outside xda where they develop z2 pro rom?
If not what any advise on what device will satisfy my rooting cravings with almost same hardware and less than 300 dollars?
Thank you in advance.
I don't know exactly why there's not as much development. It's already kind of a niche to have a brand that Lenovo is getting rid of after a few years. As far as where actual development is taking place, my impression over the last year has been that there's Siyang/SY and "LR.Team" over on the official (Chinese language) Lenovo forums; he does the kernel development on Mokee and uses that to make ports of popular-in-east-Asia ROMs like Flyme, MIUI, H2OS and sometimes a build or two of AICP or Resurrection Remix, but they're just pet projects for him to play with and he doesn't actually support or keep updating them, and they tend to always have something broken or crashing. Mokee seems to be in perpetual development in much the same way.
zukfans.eu as a community is an interesting mix of the "wild east" of development from China (at least that's where you'll tend to find leaked development builds and basebands being mirrored in English first), occasional resources coming out of Russia, and links to XDA threads that follow the development of things you're already aware of here.
Really, it would appear that the primary actual development on the Z2 Pro is being done by @davidevinavil and @cosmedd with some assistance from others, so AEX and LineageOS. I'm not sure who the guy is that released CosmicOS, other than that he also seemed to release some other ports of other ROMs for the Z2 Pro over the last couple weeks but may not actually be doing original development so much as has got a good compiling environment and some understanding of how to get things to build for the Z2 Pro -- which is still pretty impressive!
I have a Z2 Pro (Z2121), and I got my wife a Z2 Plus (Z2131). I will say that now that we have AEX and LineageOS, it's a lot easier to recommend the Pro... the screen is pretty, sure, but since we're living on the edge with unlocked bootloaders and custom recoveries & ROMS, the things that really make it better are the on-board UFS storage and USB3 connection. Doing nandroid backups in TWRP and transferring internal memory to/from the computer is SO FAST compared to the Plus, which is just eMMC storage and USB2 connection speed.
Anyway, the Z2 Pro isn't being manufactured any more, so quick, grab a Snapdragon 820 with 6GB DDR3-LP memory and 128GB UFS storage and an AMOLED screen for $300 that runs Oreo 8.1 and can run rooted and still pass SafetyNet with a little help from Magisk while you still can. Also, definitely get a good case for it... I've already had to replace the rear glass on mine once, and don't look forward to trying it again.

Well explained @Terminator.Thank you.
Also, have you SEEN the actual forums over there on the Z2 Plus side? Check out the last few days of the AEX 8.1 thread... It's a colossal dumpster fire of people asking the same questions over & over and making demands about "fixing" things... Makes the Pro forums look like a paradise of polite folks who know how to use the search feature and attach a logcat (and that's saying something).
