Hi guys
Just bought a s8 via a auction site. Did not know that it has a t mobile simlock and i have another carrier (tele2). Can i sell it now or is it possible to remove the simlock by myself?
If the phone was paid in full by the person who sold it to you than you can request a unlock from T-Mobile. If it was financed and not paid for than it may be blacklisted and you would need to go thru a 3rd party to try and unlock it.
Keep in mind if blacklisted it will not work in the US on any GSM carrier.

I'm on Tmobile now but going to Verizon soon but would like to buy a Tmobile g6 and unlock it. So what the title says, I know service will work but will I get lte through Verizon on my Tmobile phone. I used Tmobile in Verizon phones no problem and got lte before.
It depends on what radios the Tmobile G6 supports. I believe it has a sim card slot for the smaller sim cards verizon uses. I would google tmobile g6 radio and verizon radio bands and compare.
Also if I am not mistaken you will have to unlock the phone in order for it to accept another carrier. I believe if you buy the phone outright, tmobile will send you instructions for unlocking it.
Ok. I'm ordering the factory u locked g6 with dual sim. Hopefully it fully support cdma
I would also be interested in knowing if it would work or not.

T-Mobile generally requires a device be on their service for 40 days before unlocking it. Something to keep in mind.

once unlocked you should be able to use LTE, but only for data. Most likely it will NOT support VoLTE (HD voice ) and VoWiFi.
I bought a used tmobile lg g6, used the unlock app to permanently unlock, but can't get it to work on verizon network. I inserted my verizon sim card but just tells me network is unavailable
Verizon refused to accept the imei for my t mobile G6. So I refused to remain a Verizon customer.

My note 8 started life as a t mobile USA device, I had it unlocked by t mobile then ported to Sprint USA . The phone now boots using Sprint bootup logo and bloatware. All occurred automatically after first use of Sprint sim card.
My question is, do I advertise it as an unlocked Sprint device or unlocked t mobile device?

If it's a SIM dependent thing, for instance, if you put a T-Mobile SIM in it and it'll have all the T-Mobile junk on it again, then advertise it as T-Mobile unlocked. If you put another SIM in it and the Sprint junk stays, then advertise as Sprint unlocked.

I'd advertise it as whatever it originally was. Other users may not have the same experience you are having. Mine started as Sprint but moved to unlocked firmware. So I'd advertise mine a a Sprint device with the unlocked firmware.
I just put a dead t mobile sim and it changed back to t mobile branding.
So I'll advertise it as an unlocked t mobile model . Cheers

Ok so I have read some stuff that claims if I buy the unlocked Note 9 on best buy's website that my service with at&t will be inferior compared to a note I would have bought through their payment plan BS. Despite both having identical hardware and both being on the same service plan.
Is this true? Is there a easy way around it?
If not, what carriers do not do this?
Because for the past 2 years I have been using an unlocked axon 7, and lately I have noticed the service quality severely drop, and if this is the game AT&T wants to play then I will just move to another carrier and get a better promotion.

Going by the unlocked note 8 series on t mobile. I think most functionality works with their Network out of the box.
I'm currently using a unlocked N9 on Sprint, out of the box Rich communication text doesn't work nor does HD calling. Also the damn camera shutter sound cannot be muted lol.

I read something similar about using an unlocked version on on T-Mobile but I have had no issues so far. Some people were saying that the carrier versions will fully support all bands but the unlocked ones may not. If worst comes to worst you can just flash carrier firmware on your unlocked version and you'll be good to go.
It's not about the model, it's about the firmware. Regardless of reflashing or outright buying an unlocked firmware, the network detects this.
The result is loss of all network-propriety functions, including: WiFi calling, VoLTE, and other features.
If you don't care about them, power to ya.

Not sure about AT&T but on TMO, WIFI calling works on my Unlocked N9.
Carriers probably hate when you use unlocked phones because that's money lost for them. So they may make it seem like you're losing something.

TMo sends their HD voice protocol/implementation to Google so it's "baked" into the phone. ATT chooses to be private.
ATT sucks for unlocked devices.
not only do the mentioned services not work, the reception also sucks compared to att branded phones. i have multiple iphones and last gen galaxy phones such as the S8, they all perform very well compared to my unlocked note 9.
i think i'm going to return my note 9 to bestbuy and get it exchanged for ATT branded one.
i can then carrier unlock from att.
unless i switch to Tmobile, no more unlocked devices for me.
it's 2018 and i gotta dial my voicemail on my note 9, what a piece of crap

Wifi calling and voLTE work on T-Mobile on unlocked devices works on my Note 9 works on my Oneplus 6 so it's not firmware based it's all up to the carrier

I haven't had that issue on AT&T out west . HD calling and stuff doesn't work, but download speed is just the same as it was a carrier branded phone.
Also why not flash the AT&T firmware, instead of returning the phone?

Keep in mind that if you DO buy the unlocked version, you can flash AT&T's firmware on there for the full experience. You just won't have to deal with AT&T's incompetant SIM Unlock team if you ever leave (or sell it).

i've been trying to flash ATT firmware with this:

no luck, seems the file is corrupt.
i know i can download official ATT stock firmware from sammobile.com.
but here;s the question:
every single usa version of the phone has the bootloader locked and safestrap does not work in oreo 8.1 as far as i'm concerned.
how do i flash this into my note9?

Hate to sound like an idiot but is flashing hard to do? I have had note phones since the note 2 and have always bought carrier branded phones but thinking of jumping on unlocked version this time.

No flashing isn't hard. I have not done it for a while. Just make sure to read a few threads on it. Make sure you're using the latest method as some details can change and of course RTFM more than once and all the details. And if you're uncertain don't be a guinea pig and wait until some veterans verify the process. Soft bricking is possible and unbricking can be impossible for the technologically inclined. I forgot what phone, I think it was actually Galaxy Tab S2 I thought I hard bricked. Took me a couple days to get it back to functioning. There are many stories this some worse than mine.

Thanks, will check into it. Still on the fence with getting unlocked ATT phone. Someone in another forum said he has bought two unlocked Samsung's for ATT and both had issues staying on LTE. But he hadn't flashed ATT firmware .. He was in low signal area so don't know if he was just unlucky or what...

I also have a US unlocked n9, which i got directly from Samsung.
Here, there's a guide in

You can either download the firmware from the link above, or from Venom's ATT thread. Either way, if you want the latest , just flash either, then trigger OTA. That's what I did. Now I'm on latest official ATT fw in my US unlocked n9.
And no, you don't need an unlocked bootloader for this. Will NOT trip know since these are OFFICIAL firmwares.
If I get a Verizon note 9 can I just pop an Att sim into it and it will work. I know there may be differences between voice and data but Basically is the Verizon NOTE9 GSM unlocked like past Galaxy phones were?
I read a Verizon forum where the Verizon rep said that the note 9 is GSM unlocked but she said AFTER it has been activated on Verizon.
To make matters more confusing she linked to a Verizon page that basically said all Verizon's post pay phones are GSM 4G unlocked (nothing about activation first).
Anyone can help me here? Thinking of getting a cheap one of eBay to use mainly overseas and ATT or wherever else.
Yes. The Verizon models are unlocked. And it's the same exact hardware as the ATT version. My recommendation is to flash either the U1 or the ATT firmware though. Otherwise you'll get the Verizon boot animation and Verizon bloatware.
The ATT firmware will allow you to use WiFi calling and VOLTE.
The unlocked U1 firmware will be clean and have no carrier bloat.

I see now that on ebay that some say verizon unlocked and some say verizon locked and some of the verizons up for sale dont specify (but in the item detail it says locked or contract)... This makes things more confusing.
I have always bought verizon phones for the unlocked gsm. I did read that verizon was going to stop having them unlocked....this is my main fear.
So what you're saying, is that the verizon note 9 is 100% gsm unlocked? sorry to ask again.

I'm also looking for that definitive answer as I want to get the Verizon Note 9 for overseas use. I read that it will be unlocked after activation as they were having armed robberies at stores and other inventory locations. I was going to buy the Sprint model but it cost almost $150 to unlock.

Verizon started that with the Pixel 3, after the Note 9. The Note 9's from Verizon are unlocked. Even with the Pixel 3, once it was activated with a Verizon SIM, it was then automatically carrier unlocked. So if you buy a used VZW Note 9 from eBay, its already been activated on Verizon, so no worries.
Just be careful buying off eBay. If its still under contract and the seller stops making payments, it will be blacklisted.

They buy on Verizon because Verizon offers better deals. Then they want to use the devices on other networks. But since Note only has A firmware, not B, it's an annoying process for those who haven't flashed before.
AS to your second question: ATT doesn't allow Wi-Fi Calling nor voice over LTE on unlocked devices. So many ending putting up with their bloat in order to get those features.

It used to be easier. Verizon would often offer buy one get one free on Samsung and LG devices. You had to sign up for new service and put the phones on a payment plan. But the second phone uses to actually be free, not just bill credits. And you could pay off the first one and cancel your service.
I one time bought four Galaxy S7s when they were brand new, started four lines of service with Verizon, then paid off the phones and cancelled the service. Then I sold all four phones and netted about a thousand dollar profit off the deal.
Did the same thing with the LG G4 with Verizon when they offered $600 prepaid gift cards for each phone you bought.
Now Verizon, like all other carriers, lock you in with bill credits.
As they say, all good things must come to an end.

I wanted them for overseas use, actually ended up getting a great deal on 2 ATT note 9s, under $500 each n paid $18 to unlock
Verizon note 9 on AT&T
I'm using an unlocked Verizon note 9 512gb 8gb ram on AT&T and amazingly everything works. Wifi calling, video calling, volte. Even went to UbreakIfix and they installed Android 10 onto the phone. When I put the Sim card into the phone it loaded all the AT&T software on the phone and I was good. The great thing about Verizon unlocked phones are that they have the full CDMA and GSM capabilities so you can use them on any carrier. It wasn't a hassle at all to do.
