WiFi connection good or bad? - Nokia 8 Sirocco Questions & Answers

Hi a question to owners please, I read two reports about WiFi disconnecting with the Nokia 8, is that true for you? How is the reception in general?
Thanks a lot for any info

It's been awesome for me and I'm getting a stronger WiFi signal compared to my Note 9 in the same locations in the house.

Another S2 or Note?

Hi everyone,
I will be upgrading in late Feb. The options are: another s2 or Note.
Love my s2 (rooted with Illusion-xT v1.4.2 - XWKL1 2.3.6) , played a bit with Note and its size is not a problem for me.
I really have no time to go through the forum to find my answers.
I'd like to know:
- the battery life compared to s2
- does Note do everything that s2 does?
- call recording quality pls, does anyone use Total Recall?
- application compatibility with s2
- overall performance compared to s2
- your experience if you are owning both s2 and Note
- TV out - like in s2?
Thanks a lot guys!

About roughly the same, the 250mAH is to feed the huge screen. I get the same video playback time of 9hrs on the S2 and on the Note. Gaming might suffer since it needs to compute for more pixels.

No issues, Andriod apps mostly scale to the screen and if they dont developers fix then quite fast.

The Galaxy Note is different device but is an upgrade for the Galaxy S2 in a way.

Some say the note lags/UI stutters more than the Galaxy S2.. this is only true when you use the pinch to view the home screen or the app drawer which is a TW issue, anything other than that the Note does things FASTER than the S2 which is expected as it is a better device even under the hood.

I find it difficult to now use a phone with anything less than 5.3" of a screen, this is one major drawback once you get attached to the Galaxy note.
Altho both phones are not with out its issues, faces similar issues on both ends though
You havent asked this but the GPS on the Gnote is amazing, you can even get a signal lock indoors all of this due to the GLONASS that it has, but its not that accurate as compared to dedicated GPS devices yet.
Thank you EarlZ
Yes I ve forgotten to ask about GPS as I am gonna use my Copilot and Sygic very often.
What about TV-out - the same as s2?
Howdy.
Typed up a quick compairison between the two if you wanna take a moment to read it here.
One thing that I didn't mention in that post is TV out, and it's exactly the same as you would do so on a GSII; plug in an MHL adapter.
I personally haven't used GPS on the phone enough to count, but everyone else who has, has said it's the best they've used thus far. Much better than a GSII
If you go for it, you'll love it.
And hey! If you're not satisfied with it, go ahead and sell it and use those funds for either a new GSII or, when the time comes, put it towards it's successor.
But I doubt you'll want to once you get your hands on this baby

I've never used TV out on the S2 but I assume they will be exactly the same.

Just took a quick peek at your post and I noticed you mention at 25% there is no issue viewing it under direct sunlight? I even have issues with the S2 or the note at 100% brightness under direct sunlight well ofcourse this varies how bright the sun is shining though.

I've personally never noticed any issues. It could very well be that any light that I was under wasn't 100% dead on, but my Note screen is always one of two brightness levels: 25% and 0%. I've never had a need to crank it any more.
Are you a big guy? (ie 6" + ?)
Then get the Note.

Used on both. More or less the same, yes.
For both devices, however, the system UI outputs at native resolution. So when you're web browsing or just going through menus and such, the S2 is at 800x480, the Note is 1280x800; noticeable difference.
I will say though, that the Note does seem to slow down quite a bit when hooked up to the TV for moving about the UI or playing games and such (mainly because, not only does it have to render 3x as many pixels already, but now it's doing it twice over(!!!), it's quite a burden, and it shows.
That said, it's still (mostly) functional, and when using it for video output (even full 1080p), it is flawless there.
P.S. I'm selling my international GS2 if you're interested. Send me a PM

GPS performance

How is GPS performance for daily usage? Some people mentioned poor GPS quality for mi a1. Does mi a2 perform better?

It's all good.
Gps quality is indeed garbage. Mine won't work despite I tried literally every possible solution.
No problems with GPS for me

Not necessarily the criteria I would be interested but above is my take. The phone is OK performance wise but is an amazing deal with the current prices ($135-150).

If you were asking about 4 GB variant, perhaps there would be some numbers instead of question marks. And although the phones act quite similarly with different amount of RAM, it seems that the senior member "jhedfors" believes otherwise, making thus advicing pretty much pointless as the 6 GB version is quite a rare one.
Battery 8/10 but on standby it looses about 4% over night.
Display 7/10 u have to play around with the color mode settings in display to get it to your liking
Development 5/10. Doesn't seem like there will be much development in a years time.
Camera 5/10 the pics are ok at best.
Heating 10/10 it really keeps it's cool
I haven't used the phone yet but I can probably say this much. This is for the XT1900-1.
Development: 7/10 - not the biggest thriving community around but there were a number of roms that people are enjoying that came out within the last for months for pie including
Havoc: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/rom-moto-x4-t3890346
Pixel: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3876195
Lineage 16 (BETA): https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/rom-lineage-16-0-developer-preview-t3849699
Lesser known/used ROMS:
Arrow: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/arrow-osunofficial-t3888730
Viper: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/development/rom-viper-os-6-0-pie-t3894651
PLEASE read, then re-read how to use these roms as it's not the most straightforward process.
Here is my process, but I haven't tested it yet
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78978406&postcount=860
To my knowledge, VoLTE should be working with custom roms but wifi calling will not (wifi calling is only on T-Mobile BTW).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other part of development is the GCam app, which currently there are a number of ports for this phone as there is no single best app yet.
Recently, the development teams have been able to enable the wide angle lens, but there are a number of bugs to still iron out.
Example One: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/how-to/guide-x4-camera-gcam-hdr-night-sight-t3874674
Example Two: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78957227&postcount=73
Example Three: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78985555&postcount=190
This should bump up the camera score to maybe ~7 as well.

Just listed mine on swappa for $120. The Moto G7 came in the mail today. I never had a problem with my X4. It was a great device.

GPS quality - question to owners

How do you rate GPS in this phone?
I am considering it as my next phone but I've read in a review at notebookcheck.net (sorry, can't add links) that GPS quality for navigation is very bad. What do you think ?
GPS works perfectly. Better than Samsung J5, or Redmi Notr 5 and 6 Pro.
I use Google Maps, Waze and AutoMapa.
I use Google maps and uber a lot. No issues whatsoever gor me.

My phone is also too bad.... It's not accurate
No problems with GPS whatsoever. Works really good.
I see some people have issues with the GPS on this phone, but I have not seen any issues at all.
I feel as though when using it for navigation it can be slightly behind causing me to miss turns on islands or getting into lane early enough

What do you mean by dual GPS?
All GPS uses multiple satelites already to get your position, and Android further gets a more localized position by then pinging you off wifi networks as you pass them. The unclassified GPS bands we are allowed to use are accurate to around a dozen feet, technically we can be no more accurate that this. But with tricks like wifi scanning the phones do get around 4-6ft accuracy.

30cm accuracy might be in laboratory kind of conditions... 3m is defnitely still far enough for real life usage though
EDIT: Also read that the chip can be used not only in smartphones... Phones have small antennas, 30cm might be for car GPS and such who have far bigger antennas and space considering its their only utility
