Note 9(8gb version /exynos) vs mate20 pro which would u pick & why? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
I was a samsung user since s1-s8+ including note lineup too, but it bugged me down the lag & stuttering that I have seen through every one of them including S8+ so, I decided to try mate 10 pro & it delivered wt it promised great camera , battery & fantastic performance but the software is a little disappointing so, I want to ask u guys about the note9 did they figure out to make the phone non stuttery or is it just another stuttrry samsung phone ?
Last point [note 9 (8gb version)=813$ in my country/mate 20 pro 880$(6gbversion) ]
So, what would you pick & why ?
Sorry to make it such long thread.
Thx in advance

Been using the Note 9 since it's August launch. The phone doesn't really stutter and is pretty smooth overall. The camera is absolutely fantastic although the Mate 20 Pro does have a few tricks up it's sleeve that might make it a better overall shooter than the Note 9.

Thx , but what about the battery performance is consistent? & Which version of the note 9 did you use exynos or snapdragon?6 or 8 gb of ram.

Had the 20 pro and didn't like it due to the software. Now have the note 9 512gb and 5 stars so far fast never had a closed app. Battery is OK depends what you do but watching filmes for 3 hrs phone texts mail browsing and social network get about 6 to 7 SOT.

I have the Exynos with 8GB RAM/ 512 GB storage. It's not as fast as the Snapdragon but more than good enough for everything I use it for on a daily basis. I don't game much on the phone but am a heavy duty user of phone calls, emails, office applications, YouTube and WhatsApp. The phone works perfectly well. I often find myself needing to charge the phone after about 10 hours off the charger but that's probably due to my heavy screen on usage and range anxiety.

It was... A lot of people and reviewers say that the Samsung experience a clunky and laggy a to be fair was the thing I really missed. And when the new one UI comes in January one hand operation will be the best... Kudos for Samsung to try make it better... Only fast updates will be the one thing to be sorted.

Which one of them u feel more snappy & smooth performance? What about battery performance of note 9?

Hi,
I hopw my review would help someone.
I had Mate 20 Pro and I can say the pictures are awesome and that's it. Battery helds 7hrs+ SoT and that would be all the pro points.
Against would be the unconfortable design which is slimer and longer than S9+ or Note 9 (I have S9, S9+ and Note 9 and previous i had S8 and S7, S6 and S6 Edge).
Against also the EMUI software on top of Android Pie which os uncnfortable to use.
Beside this, the software update is horrible, worst than Samsung. Top device but latest update from October 1st and we are already in December?!
Customer support from Huawei is unexistent. They don't know nothing never.
I bought something from Huawei AppStore (like GalaxyApps) but i wasn't able to use due to an issue..neither support knew..speachless.
Also the Huawei firnware finder doesn't compare to Samfirm or Odin. Huawei firmware softwate is terrible than everythink you can imagine.
And i got back Mate 20 Pro and got a Note 9 512GB with 8GB RAM and works perfectly.
I get good pictures, fiability, 6hrs+ SoT, infinit themes and stability. I am pleased.

I agree with this. EMUI is horrible. Terrible experience. I was using P10 and P20. On P10 is nougat 7.0 out of the box. Huawei updated it to Oreo 8.0. They just skip 7.1.1 and 7.1.2. Plus Huawei close the door to any development after they make bootloader unlock code unavailable. The most annoying part was EMUI keep killing the background process. Sometimes notification will arrive late or u need to open back the app to receive notification. I think this is why huawei devices have good battery by killing all the background process. Well just a thought.

I ove TouchWiz bec. it is free u can do whatever you want within it but my hate point is that it is unable to maintain its performance in day to day usage it is inconsistent if they solve that after the s8+ it would be great I really want that 8gb version & that monster storage but I am afraid of that lag & stutter
I will try to upload video today to show you lag & stutter of my previous s8+ .

i had the note4, note5, s8, note8 and now note9.
i can safely tell you that all the lag is FINALLY gone. the s9/note9 era fixed that issue. it always bothered me on the note8 to have that lag/stutter. between that and the tiny battery i couldn't bear it.
note9 rocks!

Now u make me want to buy it right now I just will wait for 2 weeks to finish my exams .
Thanks man .

TL;DR Samsung rocks, EMUI makes it hard to like the Huawei
I currently have the Note 9 8gb version 9601U and I have the Mate 20 Pro 8gb version. I like the Samsung better.
Both show no lag whatsoever but the Huawei has some quirks that I just can't deal with. For 8gb it shuts down apps I have running in the background that it should not. The Huawei also doesn't play well with my Android auto. I often have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work.
EMUI is just too different for me. This is the first phone in the hundreds I've owned that I installed Nova launcher. Battery life on both phones was comparable. Charging too as I didn't have the adapter for my super fast charger to plug the Mate into a US outlet.
Reverse charging was kinda cool but did not use it as often as I thought. My kids have gotten more responsible with charging their own devices. The fingerprint sensor wasn't as accurate as I'd hoped either. The slowness I expected but often times I'd have to reposition or wipe off my finger to get it to work.
The camera on the Huawei was about as awesome as you would expect. The best feature on this phone by far. I also felt it was a better looking device but that is it's only real advantage to me.
The final straw came when I noticed it would shut off my VPN in the background a couple times a day. That was absolutely unacceptable. Even with the Killswitch on, it completely shut down the VPN app so it bypassed the apps Killswitch function. No way I can deal with that.
The Samsung does everything great. If it's not the best at something, it's really close. It has very few bugs that I've noticed which is very refreshing. And all the features on the phone and in its Experience software have been great. I just wish it didn't try to force it's Samsung apps on me but that is easily disabled and ignored. Also no lag whatsoever. And its RAM is incredible. Apps that a used days ago are waiting fir me in the state I left it. It shocks me sometimes, lol.
Sorry for the long post.

coming from a S6 Edge Plus, any ideas?

Hello Folks,
I was a proud owner of a mate 7 (my first huawei) then I jumpe to a S6 Edge Plus, I missed the great battery and the better software (IMO, I hate touchwiz) but the phone was sluggish after a while, really sluggish to the extent that opening the dialer took a few seconds, I Had to reset it every now and then, but the S6 Edge Plus was much better in every department except the battery, I am getting bored of it after 1 year and thinking of going back to Huawei with the P9 Plus,I know the Mate 9 is here and the P10 is soon to come, but these will be totally out of my budget, I can simply trade my S6 Edge Plus for a P9 Plus now with a small exchange.
I've seen the reviews, I know how the P9 Plus stands against my S6 Edge Plus, but I am afraid of the sluggishness that plagued my mate 7, Also according to GSMARENA the Exynos is a much better battery saver all around, the P9 Plus battery is suffering bad in their test (69h compared to 83h).
I really like the design of the black P9 Plus and would like to have stereo speakers along with the dual lens and 3D Touch features, but I am afraid I might be sidegrading not upgrading, What do you think?

I have been using the p9 plus for 5 months now and never did I I encounter any sluggishness so far. I know the mate 7 might have that problem as I have own it previously too but that was probably due to the lower performance of the gpu so whenever u run something that is gpu related or run it in the background, it may affect the performance . But so far I can only say huawei is doing a very good job on improving everything on their flagship. I run all the apps without ever kill them in the multitasking windows, which I found them to be maximum 20 nos. in total and everything still run smooth and fast without any sluggishness. I never use Samsung previously but I did bought a galaxy s3 mini for my brother and after some while it became super lagging and even hang still. I tot that might be due to lower performance as well (since it is few years back product) but from what I heard from my friends even other series with higher performance such as s4, note 5 have that problem too. I also know that a lot of galaxy users complaint abt it's lagging and hang problem so I will nv consider Samsung. But for huawei, especially the p series and mate series, I never heard anybody complaint abt this problem so it is always my first and only choice. As for battery life, it's really hard to say, some say it is Mich better that Samsung, or even iPhone 6 plus, since I never use them before ,I can only say the p9 plus battery seems very good to me. I have been running 11 background apps all the while (which means the setting "keep running after screen off") of which most of them are power intensive apps, keep opening apps without killing it in the multi task windows, and it gives me a 4 plus hours sot moderate usage and it is just enough for me to last one whole day from 8am to 10 pm. And now I installed an app call "night mod" and I reduce the screen brightness by 40% and I got the sot of 8 plus hours heavy usage. So it's really quite enough for me. As for sluggishness, no, I don't think u will face it on p9 plus
By the way, I really think u should consider p10 plus since it is just out and seems like a lot of it have been improved especially with the new summilux leica lens camera.

ar emoji note 8

coming to note 8?
I do not believe! Officially, you have to buy S9, but after Note8 gets Oreo, it can be done porting the S9 application on Note8.
Port
Is porting the app a relatively simple process? I have flashed my Note 8 to Oreo and I'm curious about porting the app.

No - Its not easy and the AR emoji was made specifically to work on the S9 - it probably will not work on the Note 8 at all...but maybe there is a developer who could work magic. Don't expect to see it for a long time
Must port with cameraS9.apk.I expect Note9.

i just finished with a new update of my note 8 with oreo .. but unfortunately it doesn't support ar emoji
So the Note 8 definitely will not get AR emoji? I just got a notice few months ago when I'm not really into the note series I really want the 9 plus I should have waited. The note is too big for me and I like the fingerprint sensor on the nine.

Officially from Samsung, probably not.
Have you held a S9+ yet? It is a tad bit smaller than the Note 8 but not by much, pretty much the same. If you want to swap to a S9+ only because of size, you might be disappointed. S9 would be a noticeable difference but hardware is not the same as S9+

Yes I've held the S9 Plus we originally had the 7 Edge and wanted to upgrade but the 8 plus wasn't enough difference for us to upgrade. And then we saw specs of the note we got it only because it had the dual cameras an the 6 gigs of RAM and was the latest phone out plus Samsung gave us 300 bucks for our 7 edges which is the price we paid for them from Sprint on a two-year contract. But I knew the nine would be out in a few months and I should have waited. But we didn't know that Samsung would still be given $300 out for the 7 Edge so that's another reason we did it that quickly. I'm not really into the note series I have small hands and I never use the pen I don't like where the fingerprint sensor is.
The S9 plus has dual speakers with Dolby Atmos better camera the intelligent scan and of course the AR Emoji which I believe would like to have. Was going to sell my note and get the S9 plus but we just got our phones a few months back and my husband doesn't want me doing that and spending the difference on an S9 Plus so I'm hoping the note get some of the features of the 9. We've only had our notes for like 3 months I paid 650 and got offered 550 but then I'd have to pay 850 for a S9 plus unlocked so it's probably not going to happen

I have seen numerous videos and articles that all seem unanimous in suggesting people not upgrade from the Note 8 to the S9. They actually feel that it’s almost a downgrade because the only thing you are really getting is a better chip and the speakers. The S9+ is different where you aren’t losing items that the Note 8 has other than the S Pen, which in my opinion is a big loss, but you are gaining potentially a camera that’s better in low light. However, again every suggestion I’ve seen was to not upgrade. There was one person who said if you really don’t use the S Pen then maybe. I also wanted to point out what the other individual was trying to point out and that’s the difference in size. It’s S9+ at 158 x 74 x 8.5 mm and the Note 8 at 163 x 75 x 8.6 mm. So the dimensions are almost identical. You may want to hold them both in your hand. One suggestion I have for you is something that happened to me personally. When I had the Note 2 and the Note 3 was coming out, I had a friend who asked me if I was going to upgrade. I said honestly, no. I don’t really draw and really don’t use or need the S Pen. He proceeded to show me just a few things that I was unaware of and then suggested I look at a particular site and YouTube video. I ended up buying the Note 3 and everyone except the Note 5 because it didn’t have the SD card. I was completely unaware of all the capabilities. So before you pass on the Note series as a whole, I would just suggest you really learn all of the capabilities of the S Pen.
The other thing that doesn’t help is Samsung got rid of the old S Note in favor of Samsung Notes which is an inferior app. The original S Note came with Action Memo, Photo Note, Easy Chart, Idea Sketch, Scrapbook, etc. In my opinion it’s probably the best app ever for the S Pen and maybe even the best app period. I was going to say if you’re interested there’s a way to get it installed that I learned from another Thread in this site. However, I just updated my phone to Oreo and it messed up some of it. It looks like we can’t get Easy Chart installed and Photo Note looks to only work in landscape. But this just happened over the weekend, so I’m hoping that someone will figure out a solution. If you do end up with the S9+, I hope you enjoy it!

There is a post here where some guys teach how to enable scrapbook and all features and apps. Also I modded all those apps to work on nougat but I don't try yet on oreo because i don't need it now. You should try it; I'm agree with you, s note had been the best Samsung app with all features.

It seems that on oreo is really not working... to bad.
Thanks everyone! For now I am keeping my Note 8. My husband says we just got these 3 months ago and if I sell my Note and only get 550 I still have to pay the difference for the unlocked s9 plus. I just wish we would of waited but we didn't know Samsung would still be giving $300 for the 7 edge. But I have small hands and I know the 9 plus is big too I like where the fingerprint sensor is. I don't use the pen or know about other Notes and what they had but I do love my Note it's fast and I have no complaints and will be getting Oreo on my unlocked in the next couple weeks. All carriers have it now I read. But yesterday I did play with an S9 that was in this little Best Buy mobile at the mall and I made a gallery of like 18 AR Emojis and sent them to myself than deleted them off the phone so I could see what it looked like. I've seen a 9 plus on display too and yesterday he said here hold an 8 plus same as 9 plus. I wouldn't do a regular 9 cause of hardware but I was also thinking I maybe should just wait for the S10 and maybe it will be 5G ready.
We have Sprint and got unlocked so we could switch to another carrier here soon. But thanks for now I will keep my Note if hubby would of let me I probably would of done it though and got a purple s9 plus but I am not unhappy and I love my Note works great. Just hope battery stays the same or is better once we get Oreo. Cause I always had to charge my 7 edge at work in the lower level with no signal my Note I never have to charge.

note 9 or p20 pro.. which is the best option?

Hi guys
Actually I use a galaxy note 8 but in September. I need to change it because expire the rent signature.
So, I'm looking for a new smartphone.. And the 2 smartphone that I found are note. 9 or p20. Pro..
It's true that are 2 different product.. And the p20 has not the spen.. But I don't use the s pen top much..for work I started to use a iPad with the apple pencil and I think is better for my use.. The display is bigger than a smartphone display...
So, if I forget the spen functionality.. What is your suggestion? P20 is cheaper (not too much) and his camera is better.
Otherwise, I'm started to use galaxy series or note series 8 years ago, the first one was galaxy s1.... Actually the UI for me is easy to use...I'm scared I loose some function with the p20..
Can you give me your consideration?
Thanks
Sam
this is like asking in the huawei forum whether the note 9 is better...
Yes I know.. But if someone need to compare this 2 device, where must ask the question?
If you're used to the Samsung UI, the Huawei EMUI will definitely be quite different. Especially in terms of how it handles battery management and memory optimization, as well as maybe the lock screen notifications. My friend does have a P20 Pro while I use the Note 9, having switched from the S8.
I will tell you right away, if you want better battery life get the P20 Pro.
If you want the better camera, it's honestly a toss-up. In true real world experience, the P20 Pro's camera is not quite the home run critics make it out to be, there were some scenes where even my year old Galaxy S8 could beat the P20 Pro.
If you want the better display there's no question about it get the Galaxy Note 9 it's not only bigger it doesn't have a notch and well it's a Samsung OLED display enough said.
The real question of the Galaxy Note 9 is, how much are you willing to pay for the S Pen, and Samsung's slightly less offensive software. My advice is try to shop around for a P20 pro deal, as it's been out for a while now. If you can get it for significantly less than the Note, buy that. If the prices are within $100 of each other, get the Note. If you can wait, wait for the Mate 20 to release and see how that looks; even if you don't like it, both the Note and the P20 are bound to be cheaper by then.
Oddly enough, the battery test videos show the Note 9 quite superior to the P20. Not sure what is better because I don't buy off brand phones so I have no experience with them.
Lol, P20 Pro's camera is not better. It just has more lenses. If you DO like taking black and white pictures, go for Huawei. If you like functionality, SAME CAMERA PERFORMANCE, S-pen and overall performance, go for samsung. I used to have Iphone 8+, now i own Note 9. I dont feel any different in terms of performance.
I just sold my p20 pro that I've had for two months, my note 9 is coming tomorrow so I can't compare the two (I did have the note 8 and s9 for a while though) but I can tell you some things about the p20.
The camera has been advertised extremely well, and it is great in low light BUT in real world point and shoot situations it's trash in my opinion. I haven't taken one photo on it that I like, all the photos I have taken on auto are over processed and over sharpened. Any Samsung phone I've ever used has always had a fantastic point and shoot camera.
The EMUI no matter what anyone tells you is clunky and just not enjoyable to use. I feel like the new and improved Samsung experience UI is really smooth and easy to use in comparison. I'm aware you can use launchers and stuff but I prefer to keep the stock launcher.
Although the p20 is advertised as having a 4000mah battery I haven't had a great experience with it. This differs from person to person and usage but I really can't get a full day out of it.
I know it might seem like I'm bashing the phone I have enjoyed some aspects of it, but my note 9 is coming tomorrow and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
Thanks a lot guys for your really apprecied feedback!
I read your opinion and I thin, again, that my new smartphone will. Be again a note!
Sure, I think the difference respect the note 8 will be not so much, but as I explained, in September expire the relationship with my carrier and I must change the smartphone, and buy a note 8 is not convenient.
Actually in italy the street price of the p20 pro is 700 euroin European version, online.. The Italian versione is slightly expensive, approx 800 euros..
The note 9 will sold 1029 euro, so the difference is 250/350euro,but I can subscribe, is a newest in italy, a subscription with Samsung. I can pay monthly the device for 24 months, with 99 euro of first payment, and obtain a note 9.afyerthis period, I can pay approx 300 euros and the device will be mine, otherwise, I can replace it with a new one..
At the end, I will pay more than 1029 euros but for 24 yeast I have a protection against damage included, and is not a bad things..
P20 pro has not this option, in italy is sold or as a usual with carrier or I must pay it 100%.
About ghe performance...i really stress my smartphone.. I use it for job, I take note during some. Meeting, I use it via chrome cast to watch movies by Netflix or similar, and the integrated dex station function can be a good features (but also the p20 has. This option)
I use also it with camera, because I have 2 children and is always a good. Thing have in my hand a good camere to capture the nice moment of the day.. And this is a good point.. I was sure that the people like the p20 pro camera. Much more than the other. Camera phone, but your real feedback explain a different situation.. I'm not a professional camera man, I need a best camera with automatic setting for this moment, and if you are agree that also the note 9 can be better, this is another good point for note 9.
Finally... The UI powered by Samsung is without secrets for me after a lot of years.. Also, last but not least, when I configure the new device automatically I found saved wifi Hotspot, password and other small information that help me during my Business, and I reduce the stress to replace a new device
Th AK a lot again guys for your explanation.
Ot: somebody with the note 9 can give me a feedback about dex application, in particular for Netflix and autocad application? I think can be 2 real interesting application respect surfing on internet or other solutions

If you ask me, wait a little bit for a mate 20 (pro) and than make finall decision. Last year i had note 8 and mate 10 pro after it and huawei was better for me.

In what ways if you don't mind me asking? I got my note 9 this morning and I am so happy I don't have to use the p20 pro anymore!
@Popmonty battery capacity (sot +40%) and flat screen at start (this rounded screen are totaly pointless for me, expecially on a note series where 10% on screen is useless with pen)! Than, mate 10 pro had stereo sound (note 8 not), much faster (and better positioned) fingerprint, 128gb etc.
On a note 8 side was wireless charging and 3.5mm.
Now in note 9 a lot of things are improved; stereo sound (but still mono for notification except whatsupp app), 128gb base memory, bigger screen and 4000mAh...but who knows what new mate will bring near new kirin 980 and wireless charging. I would wait 2 more months if there is possibility...if nothing, note 9 will be much cheaper in 2 months
Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
P20 pro still uses bluetooth 4.2 while others started with 5.0 like last year? It doesn't matter if I need it or not. For a flagship price it needs to provide flagship specs. Huawei has been known for this kind of **** behind the scene. Who knows what else has been cheaped out on.
Regarding the mate 20 pro... It was also for me a good option.. But I need to finalize the order max in the first week of October because I have to finalize the contract signed with phone operator.. I must return the note 8 otherwise I have to pay another year.. But the cost is similar to buy another one new phone so I will return it.
For this reason I think is not an option for me wait the new mate 20 pro.
Regarding the performance of p20... There are 2 important thing that are not installed in this device.. The 3.5 jack and And the wireless charging... For my personal use the first one is good because in the night in some case I use wired earphone too watch some movies in my bed when my wife sleep.. Are comfortable and I don't want rememberto charge a Bluetooth earphone.. I have the gear icon x of Samsung and I use this only for fitness... And a lot of case are discharge.
The wireless charge instead is good because I have in my office the wireless stand and is confortante charge my mobile while I'm in the office..
Sincerely, I don't know why in the p20 pro there is not at least this option... In fact I read will be integrated with the new mate 20
I would definitely recommend for you to wait and see what the Mate 20 Pro will offer. I am expecting a fairly good phone from Huawei. They have made a few videos targeting the Note 9 so I'm guessed they have something up their sleeves. Also it will have a bigger battery than the Note 9 and also a more efficient SOC being the new Kirin 980 developed on a new 7mn architecture
Only (huge) problem from my POV is that Huawei does not allow unlocking of Bootloaders anymore - so cannot Root or install custom ROMs on Huawei devices - I hope this changes soon.
This factor alone tips it towards the Note 9 for me. Now patiently waiting for a decent price drop - hopefully by November/ holiday period.

Thanks

I suggest, with respect, you don't make any purchase based on reviews or forum posts for anything you purchase from mobiles to socks. We all differ and it comes down to what your needs are rather than what you want or others suggest.

Ciao Ryland
Sure, I don't purchase note 9nkr hauwei depending of. The forum. Review, I already found this 2 device after personal. Consideration, also I have already the galaxy note 8, so I know the device.
Because are 2 really interesting phone, and because I use for job and personal use the camera, I just ask the opinion of the other person of the forum, because for example test the camera is impossible and I can only as ask a feedback from somebody that already tried both.
For this reason after some consideration read here in this thread I take the decision to buy the note 9 and I wrote this comment... Because some users told me a feedback regarding a feature that I can't test myself.. Sure I must believe to this person.. But I think also this is the spirit of the forums, no?
huawei's software is trash (and with that locked bootloader stuff u cant even flash custom roms lol), that alone is enough for me to not buy a huawei phone

Rooting is a waste of time in this day and age. If you need to root a phone you are a million miles from a typical user.
The P20 pro is not as good as the Note 9 I would agree, but the software is fine, as is the Note software.
If you need to root then get a Nexus 5 or something.
With regards to the rest of this thread, for me the pros and cons are:
Note : Faster, Slightly better screen, Headphone Jack
P20 Pro : Better/ Louder sounding speakers, Much better camera in ALL scenarios barring indoor low light. Less noise, better zoom, better overall quality, much better low light.
I have both phones right now, and honestly if the P20 pro had better video recording and was a little less laggy on graphics intensive stuff, I would use it as my main phone. BUT the note 9 is a more polished phone and is better in almost all ways barring speakers and photos.

im not talking about rooting at all, im just talking about ROM's in general. Huawei's stock rom is trash, while the samsung one has become very good over the years.

Mate 20 Pro returned for a Oneplus 6t....Sadness

Well my Mate 20 Pro started showing the green tint issue, which was tolerable at first, but because I imported it to the US I didn't want to take the risk of getting another green screen, or the one I had getting worse and then being outside of the return period.
My Oneplus 6T 8gb got here yesterday and is making me realize just how bad EMUI really is. Touchwiz to EMUI wasn't that bad of a shock, but stock android to EMUI is. Just the difference in getting notifications again is relieving. The Oneplus feels just as snappy as the Mate 20 Pro did also, no signs of lag or hesitation. Another benefit for me, because I am using T-Mobile US, is the optimization the Oneplus has for my network. I am getting much greater LTE speeds, WiFi Calling, and VoLTE again. Not deal breakers, but very nice to have them back.
I am going to miss the battery life; 6t doesn't seem bad, but the Mate was insane. Honestly the battery life was so good, the 40w charging ended up being a non-feature for me. I never need to top the phone off quickly as I never saw below 30% battery, even with 8 hours screen on time at one point. The camera on the Oneplus isn't horrible, but I will miss all of the options the Mate came with.
In the end the most important thing about a phone is that is does the core things well. Connectivity, calls, messaging and user experience trump all of the other features to me, and the Oneplus does do all of those things better. The UI is so much cleaner than EMUI, and Huawei could really benefit from offering a version of the phone with pure android.
When the price on the Mate 20 Pro drops and the issues have been worked out, I really do think I will revisit the phone and consider purchasing it again.
I forgot to mention...The fingerprint scanner on the Oneplus 6t is worlds better than the Mate 20 Pro. It hasn't missed a scan yet, is just as fast, and positioned much better. All of this with the factory applied screen protector.
I’m essentially in the same boat as you I just haven’t pulled the trigger on the 6t. However that thunder purple is tempting.. My Mate is gone as I couldn’t handle the green, however I miss the phone so much. Are you happy with the 6t or is it just a stop gap for you? And how is the camera is noticeably worse or would you say it’s marginal. That was a key reason for getting the mate I take a lot of photos for work and having a good camera really makes things easier for me.
I've ordered the mate 20 pro but I think I'm going to cancel. Today was the first time I got to test out a demo, while the build quality, and features of the phone are amazing, I really didn't like emui in that 10 min I spent with it. It reminded of the old TouchWiz.
Phone was very snappy but I can tell that the animations were much shorter than other phones and werent as fluid. A mate 20 pro one edition would have been perfect.
Be aware guys... RAM management on the OnePlus is terrible. I am returning it and getting a Mat 20 Pro.

Just sold my Note 9 to buy the mate 20 pro (will be here tomorrow), although I do have the 6t with gcam installed and is a killer combo plus I paid 280 for it through Tmo

Haven't had a chance to take a lot of pictures with it, but I would say it's better than marginal. The ultra-wide and 3x/5x zoom on the mate 20 were killer though. I will definitely miss them. I will be ok giving them up though with everything else you get with Oneplus. I am already rooted with all the root apps I missed installed.
As far as ram management, it looks to be a Pie problem. The 3 phones with Pie, people are complaining about ram management. I just set the apps I don't want killed manually.
I would say the trade-offs from the Mate 20 Pro to the Oneplus side in favor of the Oneplus by just a little. The things you do everyday on your phone are just better on the Oneplus.
I have also replaced my Mate 20 Pro with the 6T due to screen bleeding. Obviously the camera is not as good but the 6T fingerprint scanner is far superior. This will do nicely before the big hitters of early 2019 are released. Hopefully lessons have been learned for the upcoming P30 Pro.
The OnePlus has many advantages over the M20P, with it being on Close to stock Android, better overall user experience, without annoying little things that comes with EMUI 9. The design on both are great and the new "Thunder Purple" on the 6T is stunning.
I just sold my OnePlus 6, will probably now test out the 6T or just wait until next year to see what that brings.
There are obvious issues for some with the M20P, it's most definitely not the best in terms of software and Huawei aren't the best with rolling out updates. (another plus point for OnePlus). However the camera for me is better on the M20P and battery life is just superb. I also appreciate the design and feel of the M20P. Fortunately I have not been affected with the green tint issue & hope it doesn't arise.
I'll hang in there and hope improvements to the UI are made and niggles sorted. As I am very much enjoying the M20P although as previously stated it's not as good as the 6T from a software perspective .
Enjoy your 6T it's a great all round device :good:

okay well in my opinion its faster, the animation is just quicker on the oneplus. having removed the animations on the m20p its faster. But nether the less, i am also having doubts about the M20 pro but i dont want to go back to oneplus, its too boring but i know purist like pure android

No sorry I am afraid this is nonsense. The Oneplus 6T scanner is a "TINY" but faster, but I get 100% accurate scan every single time on the Mate 20 Pro. If you don't then you have a screen issue on the Mate or you haven't registered your print properly. And yes, I have also used them side by side.
Thing is, the secure face unlock on the Mate 20 pro is 10x faster than the 6t fingerprint and works with google pay and banking apps so blows it away.
Add to the fact the Mate is a LOT faster and smoother than the 6t with cameras and batter life that destroy it, I could never go for a oneplus.

Thanks for the photo comparison. To me it looks like the Mate 20 pro did a nicer job with the truck. Looking at the letters RAM you can see that they have less glare around them (unless that is a reflection that is actually there)
I thought the default camera did a nicer job with the backyard shot. Leaves look a bit sharper than other cameras but I wonder if it is over saturated. Maybe you can comment on that. Over all I might still go for Mate 20 pro but all are quite good.
I also got rid of the mate 20 pro and purchased the OnePlus 6t 8gb 256.
Yes ultimately the mate 20 pro is better but OnePlus 6t is a nice device.
I hope also to purchased a mate 20 pro in the future as it's such a great device minus the screen obviously lol.
For now I'm happy I guess but could of been happier if I had a fully working Mate 20 pro but after replacements it was time to make a decision

If you could be really never go for a OnePlus what is your basis for comparison? YouTube reviews?
I had an entire night side by side with both phones and the OnePlus is just as smooth, unlocks very quickly and still hasn't missed once on the finger print scanner (I registered my fingerprint at least a dozen different times on the Mate 20), and best of all it has root and no crap bloatware installed.
Without question the mate 20 camera is better just because of how many options you have with it.
Battery life I can't really comment on yet as I haven't had it long enough, but 85% left with 1.5 sot seems pretty decent so far.

Worth upgrading from Galaxy Note 8?

I wonder if any of you broke your Galaxy Note 8 contract to get a Galaxy Note 9 or switched from a Galaxy Note 8?
Is the Galaxy Note 9 worth the switch?
Yeah, for me, definitely. Battery life is much better. That was a deal breaker for me on the Note 8. I really wanted to get 2 years out of it but my experience as regards battery life was really frustrating.

I have both among other brands and imho if you have a Note 8 and you are happy with it just keep it. One of the things that I enjoy the most about the 8 when compared to the 9 is the thickness or the lack of it for that matter, everything else could be considered software differences and they will both get the Android Pie next year allegedly. Then again opinions vary and I am pretty sure we do have a lot of owners here that could probably pitch in with more info......
I have both. I like N8 as it has root up to the 3rd bootloader version and is just an amazing device. My N9 for me doesn't need root..great battery usually get 7 to 8hrs screen time..amazing camera..dual bluetooth..fingerprint scanner better position..no lag after constant heavy use. But just like above post mentioned to each his own, Note 8 is a great device, just comes down to the user and what they want. Me I would say yes, but I wouldn't get rid of Note 8 to get one. I was lucky and had another upgrade so was able to do that but I understand for some that is not an option.
NOTE 9
The Note 9 is an outstanding device, coming from the N8 however there are only a few things that scream yes. It just depends on if these are worth anything to you?
1)Better Fingerprint Location
2)512gb available Storage option
3)8gb Ran Option
4)Better Battery life
5)if you like the bluetooth S-Pen features.
It's a refinement on the Note 8 and done well, Samsung were never ever going to implement golden features to the Note 9 (Eg UD scanner ect) with the 10th Anniversary next year.
This also brings into question, perhaps hold off for the S10 and if you can even the Note 10.
However I can say the Note 9 is an absolute joy to use.....:good:
I have both. My 128GB Note 9 is my primary, though on e my 512GB Note 9 gets here tomorrow, it will be my primary. My Note 8 is my backup.
Honestly, there's very little difference between the two as far as everyday useage. The battery life on the Note 9 is better, but I never had a problem with the battery life on my Note 8. The Bluetooth features on the SPen are cool, but not a deal maker.
Don't listen to anyone about fingerprint sensor location. If you have a Note 8, you know as well as I do that you got used to the FP sensor location within about 10 minutes and never thought about it again.
The camera has some slight improvements, but now that the Note 8 has super slo-mo mode and AR emojis, the difference is negligible.
Is it worth it? Maybe not. But do I regret upgrading? Not at all. But I'm a gadget guy. I have the newest and all the bells and whistles. It's really up to you. If you're happy with your Note 8, you'll love the Note 9...cause it's basically the same device.
For me it was, battery life and stereo speakers. Apart from that it's the same for me. Still worth the it
Ok, yeah the stereo speakers are a really nice upgrade.
You'll immediately notice:
(1) Way better battery life.
(2) Stereo speakers are so much better!
(3) Feels quicker and Bluetooth features are cool if you're an s-pen user.

Cheers, tomplatz. The stereo speakers definitely appeal to me, although I mostly use earphones.

You'll immediately notice:
(1) Way better battery life.
(2) Stereo speakers are so much better!
(3) Feels quicker and Bluetooth features are cool if you're an s-pen user.

Thanks, PsiPhiDan. Quite a few votes for the battery life and stereo speakers, then.
Thank everyone. I've yet to see the Note 9 here in Japan in the flesh, so I look forward to doing so.
Quote: Thanks, rayporsche. Do you mean that the Note 8 fits better in the hand, or is easier to hold, etc? I look forward to Android Pie. It's nice to get a decent upgrade for a phone which is less than 2 years old (here in Japan).
In my opinion it does feels better kinda of skinnier then again it is almost imperceptible most of the time. It's all a matter of choice if you will like I prefer to use my devices 'naked' without cases and such, they are so beautiful that it would almost be a crime to hide them. Also nowadays we find ourselves helplessly multitasking and it helps to use the phone single handed something that it is not always so easy with the Note 9 or the 8 for that matter, it seems like the new One UI will address that area positively. Lately I've been using a Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design and that may be why I feel the Note 9 so big sometimes yet the Note 9 remains my favorite, the Huawei is a beautiful device running EMUI 8.0.0 which would be like the Samsung Experience of sorts and it is in the same boat as Samsung with the Android 9 update schedule for 2019. Good luck with your decision !

We should say thank you for taking time to try and respond to each comment with your input. For me that's what I like to do get several views on a topic even though its ultimately up to you. Good luck my friend.
