VoLTE - Bell Mobility - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

So when I first got my P20 Pro I had VoLTE enabled and working fine but one day I noticed the HD notification was missing the dialer app no longer had the HD call button. Just noticed that when I make a call my device does actually revert back to the 3G network and I can no long "multitask" online while on a call. Of course I've also lost the ability to make video calls.
I've checked the wife S7 and can still make calls over LTE with that one. So now I'm wondering if it is the Bell network or my P20 Pro? A quick check on Bell support site shows a list of devices compatible with their VoLTE, the list shows older devices but newer ones also, P20 Pro not listed. Can't see Bell deactivating VoLTE specifically for this device, or at least I'd hope not.
Anybody else on the Bell network have this happen or is VoLTE working for you? Before I factory reset I wanna know if it's just me.
FYI. Locked and stock

On Virgin as well, just checked. Another kick in the nuts.....

Come on, are there no other P20 Pro users in Canada who can take a second to respond and help fellow users?
VoLTE setting is ON. Is it working for you. Do you have HD calls notification on top left, HD dial button in dialer app? When not on wifi does mobile network revert to 3G for phone calls?
Yes/No? Any info would help folks.

Fido told me VoLTE not supported on the P20 Pro and I've certainly never gotten it to work

Working fine on Rogers

That sucks since Fido is on the Rogers network and looks like it does work for Rogers users.

I'm starting to think the Bell network (Virgin) is the culprit here and not the device (fingers crossed). Curious as to why Bell would pull VoLTE support for the P20 Pro? Hopefully ain't no political thing (lol). Wonder if it's anything to do with Pie update and compatibility. I could say I lost VoLTE on my device almost a month now. I've tried everything in the book on my end even factory reset with no resolve and am more convinced now it's happening on Bell's side on things. Which really sucks cause I hate their support system but need to contact them find out what's going on with my service.
Thanks for the answers folks. Keep them coming.

I am on the Rogers network using an unlocked Bell P20 pro and do not have the VoLTE function so i wonder if it is disabled on Bell hardware?

Google about this. Rogers and Fido do the IMEI whitelisting so if you don't buy a device from them you are out of luck

just to inform you guy, I have p20 pro telus(unlocked) I put bell sim and asked bell to enable volte. it works. and it should work on virgin too.

Only Rogers(Fido) blocks you from using their IMS

I've been wondering the same. Got my P20 Pro with Bell a couple of weeks ago. About a week ago, I noticed "HD" at the top left of my notification bar, but it only lasted a few seconds and never returned. After that, I discovered that I'm always connected to LTE, but when I make a call it drops to 3G, and then after the call it reverts back to LTE.
When I insert the Bell SIM into my S7 Edge, it stays connected to LTE at all times.
How is it possible that it showed "HD" very briefly several days ago and never came back? Perhaps Bell was just testing HD on the network for a few minutes? I've always had VoLTE enabled in the settings.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I have two friends with an iPhone 8+, one on Rogers, the other on Bell, and they both drop to 3G when on a call.

Thanks for the info. I will contact them.

Please keep us posted!

Just got of the phone with Rogers, the Support specialist tried and also followed up with their network specialist, it is a no go, this was what they said:
"Since the device is not a Rogers device it wont allow VoLTE calls and the VoLTE notification is not being pushed to this IMEI. This gets enabled on the network and since the device is not Rogers it wont allow for it to register. So just make sure when you purchase the phone its from the same carrier as the one you are looking to use as it can cause compatibility issues. All phones get a pre-configured file when they are sent to Carriers and based on the carrier provisioning of the device it becomes compatible to the network."
It looks like some of us are out of luck.

I've had this device for about 3 months now and would say it's been about 1 month since I've lost VoLTE service
Just got off the phone with Bell support. Didn't really get anywhere as expected, other then many apologies and an open service ticket to try and find out if it's their end or the P20 Pro. Should hear back within 2 weeks. Again, as expected.

Fido sucks.. might switch to Rogers soon... my work has a ok deal.. $55/mo for 6gb and unlimited calls/text canada wide.

[Video] Verizon On my nexus 5

Took the sim out of my Verizon s4 and was determined to get this N5 up and running on big red.
I have full lte after a lot of tweaks that I probably shouldn't post right now do to what it could possibly do to a phone.
If you are a Dev and think you can do more with this let me know and I'll get you to where I'm at. I'm just a themer with basic dev knowledge. As you can see there is no signal to text or call. I've had bars a few times but that's it. As you see I'm on L. I had to crop one screen on phone because of upload size restrictions.

Looks interesting so far. I can't recall whether this device supports VZW's frequencies. If not, calls may never work.
I'll assume you modified the APN for VZW. Did you try modifying the radio?
If you post what you did to get data working, other members may have some additional suggestions to get you moving again.
its been gotten to, the lte connecting. but it's the calling ability that cant be done. i dont remember what all really came about, but i do remember thst the calling ability is the real issue. the nexus 5 doesnt have the ability to make phonecalls via lte. if you search the forums here, maybe you can find the thread.

Calls won't work for two reasons 1) I don't think Verizon uses VoLTE yet, and 2) calls still use 1x, just like Sprint, and you have to have the MEID (IMEI minus last digit I believe) in Verizon's database. Technically it should work on Page Plus and I think I saw a thread here on how to flash it for PP. I'm kind of surprised Verizon LTE works as most of the bands for Verizon's LTE don't coincide with the N5 IIRC. I could be wrong about that though. Also it's probably like any other GSM carrier, once you activate the SIM card in a carrier based phone, you can stick it in another phone and it should just activate. The only reason you have to change IMEIs is for the EVDO/1x backwards compatibility.

Posted a video of me getting data after a fresh wipe and install of L.
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/26/verizon-volte-hd-voice-launch/
I really need to remember to watch OP's video when I get home. This is very exciting. So to get data, you had to activate a Verizon device and swap SIMs, right? After that, the only thing not working is the CDMA voice? So in theory, if the above poser's link is correct (Verizon rolling out VoLTE soon) I could actually switch to them?
It's Verizon so I probably wouldn't do it permanently, but it would be cool to try for a month, if for nothing more than a proof of concept or neat trick. Hope Verizon does that soon.
This just won't work bro, not on CDMA.
I worked for Sprint and their system is the same.
The SIM card is strictly for LTE, everything else goes over the CDMA network, which requires server authentication.
Even when VoLTE will roll out, that authentication will remain in place.
People have got data in the past. Its voice that's the issue.

he can get voice & sms on it, though not via the sim card number;
I replied to the video with -
"..though it won't be your Verizon mobile number;
you could try using ring.to / grooveIP for voice / sms via the lte connection..
I use that as a back up number on sprint, mostly for lte , wifi , evdo routed calls,
even gsm / hspa+ & wifi when sim swapped out of the country on my nexus 5.
after editing the echo settings, it should work wonders thru that Verizon lte connection.."

just thought of something, real simple..
the cdma radio authentication is what's stopping the nexus 5 from being on Verizon,
but... **does the lte band need the same authentication**?
let's just say, on my nexus 5, with the new google voice hangouts / sprint number integration,
i go through the dialer into settings to toggle **lte only** which disables the cdma radio,
pop in a Verizon unlimited data sim, in an area with verizon's band 4..
over the top, voip service on lte..?

After 5.1.1 update can't register on network. :(

This is very odd and I have tried to follow any advice found online to alleviate this. I have done many factory resets, reloaded ROM, Modem, Bootloader all via ODIN, went to t-mobile to get a new sim card, and manually created APN to name a few ... but nothing seems to work. I see that I can not downgrade either so I have a working brick if I am close to WiFi... oddly enough the only way it lets me call or text is if I am connected to WiFi and have WiFi calling turned on.
Did you just buy the phone from a second hand seller?

I had gone in and they even gave me a new sim card just to be sure the sim card had not gone bad on me.
I have unlocked note 4 with 5.1.1 with an AT&T SIM card. Sometimes, about 5 times a day, I cannot register on network when I am connected to WiFi for data. If I turn WiFi off, and get 4G LTE symbol, then I can register and make calls. Very strange! How do I got back to old 4.4 version?

Confirmed with T-Mobile that I am not blacklisted. They did give me a special number to call into for help with this release, they claim that I was not the only person who had problems with this update. Since I do not have a landline I have to wait till I get a break at work to try contacting them.... will post results if any. lol

I can't get my phone to connect to anything, the only thing that works for me is calls and text when I am connected to wifi with wifi calling enabled for some reason. Very strange but it seems that T-Mobile is aware of a number of issues related to this release. I have even tried installing custom ROM to see if that would work but it seems that whatever I do nothing works. I have reloaded stock firmware with odin more times than I can count at this point.

I was rooted prior to update, I first flashed back stock rom and then ran OTA. Something did not go as planned but good to know that I am not alone here. I have been so happy with this phone, bought it as soon as it had come out. Hopefully this will be something that t-mobile can fix because I still owe 250 on this phone sadly.
Got done with tech support just now. We found my baseband is not the most recent and have also filed a ticket with their engineers to see if there anything that could be making it so I can not register. I will update thread when I have heard back.
I've since updated to the correct baseband.... no luck. They also recommended going to bestbuy to see if the samsung rep there can do anything.

Best buy may be your best bet, they have software provided by Samsung that can (maybe) fix your problem, if not maybe they can help you with Samsung getting a replacement.

VOLTE/WiFi Calling - Three UK

Unsure what's going on here, but Three have historically never enabled WiFi Calling for phones they haven't personally sold, even if they do actually sell it (except iPhones) however I've noticed my unlocked (Vodafone contract) P20 Pro allowing it. Anyone else noticed this?

Yeah seems strange that it's activated though, although one thing I have noticed and don't know how they managed it, but the phone 'seems' Three branded with the app Three Likes and also giving a 3 Boot Screen on power up. I wonder if it's because it was the first carrier SIM i had in to boot with.
Oh yeah, it definitely does that.
Seems to brand itself with Three, which is pretty clever (again, mate 10 pro did that)
If you put in a different (non-3) simcard to avoid the branding, would Wifi-Calling still work if you then put in the 3 sim?

There may be a potential problem down the line though, as the networks may release an update blocking WiFi calling from other networks... Not sure I want to take the risk, so may just put up with the splash screen for peace of mind.
So it seems I've managed to avoid the three splashscreen...
I started the phone without a simcard and ran through the initial start up and transferred my apps/data from my old android device to my new phone and then inserted my 3 simcard whilst the phone was on. I then restarted the phone with the 3 simcard remaining in and low and behold it started up with the regular Huawei screen and Wifi calling works!
Only issue though is that I'm on Firmware: CLT-L09 8.1.0.103(C782) and not had the latest update come through

Note 9 us version on tmobile

I'm new here and want to get yalls opinion and expertise if the unlocked US version Note 9 will work fully on tmobile network? I got it from b&h photo as it has a lot of freebies (Dex and the new dual charger) plus there's no tax.

Great question. As far as I can tell, it has Band 71 (600mhz)...
I think TM uses some of the lowest frequencies over other carriers, like their cement drilling band 71....aweosme.

It will absolutely have Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE. I've had several unlocked phones with them and they all offer both options. T-Mobile is very open to outside devices.

And how did you verify all of these features are working?

Confirm what features don't work. I'd hazard a guess.. RCS on the stock messaging app.

Love the phone, but hate all the issues with Verizon

I am seriously considering returning this bad boy. It sucks because it's a great device. But so many friends & family have newer iPhones so I can't answer their calls. Also no VoWifi is a killer for me. I'm so torn, because OP knocked it out of the park with this one.

Verizon has always been a pain in the ass if you just swap SIMs. Call them. Register it. :good:
Get a new carrier.
All the other carriers service are inferior in my area.

You must call Verizon and give them the Imei. A standard Sim swap will not make this phone work for certain aspects on Verizon. When they do the Sim swap they turn off CDMA for your line which makes it actually work.
No SIM swap is needed for VZW. You just have to tell them you have a certified phone that needs to be set up as "CDMA-less". If you had a 6t on VZW, you already have that.
OnePlus is aware of the issues with HD calling set on the newer iPhones so it will be a software fix.
All that said, the 7 Pro is not officially certified by VZW as the 6T was.
The only annoying bug for me is the caller ID in the dialer showing restricted

I call BS on this. I tried online and said my current sim that was in my S10+ was bad would not allow for a transfer. I swapped sim to 7 pro and no issues with calls/texts/data etc etc works flawlessly

You can believe whatever you want I am just trying to help you. That’s exactly what it does for me the system is not designed for an online device swap to a CDMA-less device. They can definitely do it for you through chat as well. But hey if you want to keep having problems enjoy .
Only thing I had to do was have them enable CDMA-less back when I switched to the McLaren 6T from the Pixel 2 XL. Pulled that same SIM out of that phone and popped it in this and have only noticed the RESTRICTED caller ID thing today. No issues with texts or anything else.
Swapped my wife's SIM from HTC 10 straight into her 7Pro. Everything but incoming texts worked. Went online and ran through the "ad a new phone to existing line" tool and all works great on VZW; her backlog of texts came streaming in (wifi calling/texting aside)
Don't need to actually talk to anyone. All online for me.
Make sure you call Verizon and have them add CMDA-less Roam onto your line. You will not get proper service otherwise. I had a OnePlus 6t on verizon with zero issues. You might need to call more than one time to find a rep that knows what you are talking about. Just tell them there is a feature that needs to be added to your line and it is called CDMA-less Roam. Source: I used to work at Verizon
You don't even have to call, you can do it directly through the website. Registering the IMEI fixed all those problems and took about 2 minutes.
New update out there to download and install manually, works great I'm on Verizon and it fixed the iPhone incoming call issue!!

Can confirm that this works perfectly. Only issue I have now with VZW is the no wifi calling. Came from a pixel 2xl, and this phone is night and day better. My data speeds are even much much faster now as well.

[/ it appears that 9.5.8 fixes the caller ID issue on Verizon
