finger print sensor scratch easily - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Anyone find that the fps easy to scratch? .. Is there any sticker protector?

I don't know that. what i do know is that if you apply a sticker protector, you won't be able to use it, because it won't detect the fingerprint. Confirmed by me.

The FPS on my S8+ scratched very easy. No issues on my Note 8 or my Note 9.

Here's a couple of low-budget suggestions,good luck:

I actually really like the Scotch tape idea. I put a matte skin on the back of mine because I wanted it to match the matte frame. Even the camera lenses glass has a matte skin on it, so the shiny fingerprint sensor kind of stood out. Now it also has a matte finish and works just as well as before! Win-win

With only two posts to his account I don't believe he can.
Video is cheesy and mostly an advertisement for ScreenShield. I've seen worse, but not many.

Nice video. I just can't get rid of tiny hairs on the screen from the cloth. That's why I failed attaching protection foil on the back and didn't even try to put it on the front.

Yeah, it is realy hard to take it off, maybe you should use sticky paper aka dust remover.
just get wet install, easy to adjust, easy to get rid of bubbles. after a day or 2 all the micro bubbles are gone. till someone makes glass protectors
IQ Shield wet install screen protector for the Galaxy S7 Edge works best.. easy and very forgiving.. there's video on YouTube and at their website how to do it. It also covers edges..

That's good way. I don't know why, but lot of people are waiting for glass protector, but till it comes to them, the screen is full of scratches. I don't know why, but in this phone, it realy simply make scratches and that is protected by gorilla glass 4.

I made this video, because lot of people don't know how to apply screen protector with liquid on devices, especially with curved edges. And one of a reason why i take this protector is because it is protect the edges of device too.

It must be. My gf has Note 8 and has long nails. She has few scratches on hers. I would think all of them are. I put anti scratch screen protector on cam lens. I would imagine they have them for fingerprint? Idk never looked.
With normal use it be OK. No scratch al all after 4 month of use...
Yup. Both my S8+ and my Note 8 have light scratches on the FP sensor. And you can't put a screen protector or skin over it. I tried and the FP sensor won't work with anything on it.
Even if you scratch it, the FP sensor will still work. Watch the jerry rig everything guy scratch it in his durability test. He almost takes all the finish off and it still worked just fine.
My s9 plus is a month old and I can see very minor hairline scratch on it seen under bright light from single angle. It kinda bothers me to be honest, tried 3 different type of tape protectors on it and it doesnt work with any of them on. Only works naked. Don't know why Samsung didn't cover it in matte finish. Or made it of glass.
There is no avoiding few scratches on the fingerprint scanner. If ur gonna use it, its gonna scratch. U can disable the fingerprint scanner put protector on it and use intelligent unlock but this beats the purpose of buying a flagship phone.
I really need to Learn how to accept and live with scratches.
Actually I found a solution to protect the fingerprint scanner. Few min ago I tried packing and packaging tape. The one used to wrap boxes and it worked. Just cut a very small piece but most importantly make sure it's very clear and transparent. If the area covering the fingerprint scanner is not clear the scanner wont function. Also make sure it's not too thick.
So far it works. But my experiencing with packaging tape is that it has tendency to leave residues when removed. Will see later if this is the case or not.

is there a fingerprint sensor tempered glass protector?

For the third year in a row my Samsung phone has a fingerprint sensor that's all scratched up, because Samsung continues to coat the sensors with plastic while OnePlus coats theirs with ceramic or glass. In the meantime, I've taken to covering my sensor with a piece of Scotch tape, and it still works, but I'm just curious if there is a more elegant solution?
Didn't know it still works with tape on it.. I might try some clear coat nail polish or auto grade clear coat dipped onto a brush.

I used to have a small glass protector for both the fingerprint reader and the rear camera on my S8+. Si my guess is that if there none yet, there should be something soon enough
Ive seen glass for the camera but not the FPS.
If i may ask how the hell are you scratching these so often?
I don't know how well they work, but some skins come with a small skin for the scanner. It has a small cut out in the center for scanning, so most of it is covered. I have a skinit skin that came with one(but I haven't used it), but I think I also saw that dbrand has them too. It would help to hide ur scratches, but I dont know how well the scanner would work with just a small area to read fingerprint!

That's a good idea, I'll try that.
I wished I found out about the scotch tape idea because that's such a quick, easy, and convenient preventative measure to protect the scanner from being easily scratched!

Glass protectors for fingerprint scanners would render the fingerprint scanner useless. As most current fingerprint scanners with the exception of thoses, which are designed to work under glass won't be able to work with a glass protector on them.

I mean if it could work under glass they would put them under our phone's screens, oh wait....

How scratch resistant is it? Do you use a case?

Hey people, I was wondering: how does it hold up against scratches? I have the blue, with the ridged back, but so far afraid to use it without a case... How do you use yours? Does is scratch easily? What about the screen?

It uses gorilla glass 5, which scratched very easily on my S9. I had small scratches after a day with no case on the S9. I imagine this phone will be no different.

I feel the same way. Unfortunately. I am curious about the back though...
Back seems to hold up (maybe non touch sensitive glass is easier to make scratch resistant) the front 2 scratches in the first week... And I used a soft pouch until proper accessories come out.
Got a skin on the back and a crappy plastic screen protector for now.

Allright thanks for the answer, so it seems I have to buy smth for the screen after all..
I have some scratches on mine. I am very careful with it, no coins etc. So I will definitely be using a case with the replacement phone I am getting tomorrow for display issues.

I do wonder though, if it scratches the olephobic coating or the actual glass is scratched. A colleague of mine has the s7 until last week without a protector and said screen was always perfect. But it got fingerprinty as hell.
Wonder if one of those nano liquid coatings would smooth it out. I have accidental damage insurance so if that works I would rid of the scratches with that.
You might have a point there with the coating. I have noticed that as well on my samsung phones.
I tried that nano liquid, but havent noticed much diferrence though.
I've tried several screen protectors and they all stop fingerprint recognition working!

I guess I got lucky. I got a case and a tempered glass screen protector for free with my purchase in Taiwan. Finger print scanner works perfect. I should have checked what the brand was. It was a flagship Huawei store, so obviously they knew what they were putting on there.

See...that it why they buy iphone or smsng, cause they dont mess up important stuff... You mean the glass ones? Or the foils?
I am challenging those that think Mate 20 Pro uses Gorilla Glass (I have read the 1 or 2 reviews that state this), and it's not listed in the Gorilla Glass website. Also worried about scratches I reached out to Huawei AU and received the following:
To answer your inquiry, this phone uses aluminosilicate glass for both front and back which is also Scratch resistant and is composed of aluminum, oxygen, silicon, and several other positively charged ions.

I am seeing the above noted comments and "scratch resistant" or not, it's obvious this phone needs a case and screen protector.
I wish it had Gorilla Glass 6!
No case... Back skin and plastic screen protector

Tempered glass protector - fingerprint scanner security problem

Hi. I just applied tempered glass protector with UV glue, but there's a huge problem with fingerprint scanner. No it unlock any finger. Even my brother is able to unlock my phone (without registering his fingers of course!).
That's just sick.
Does anyone had problem like this?
I am looking for a good screen protector may I ask what one you got please so I no if there any issue with that one to stay away thanks
You should have bought a hydragel screen protector.
Use face recognition instead to unlock the phone.

It sounds like you potentially didnt wipe down teh screen properly. I also have a UV glass protector, and i have no issues. It only lets me use my registered fingers

Wow, great solution. Especially that literally all apps with login ask for fingerprint.

I have uv screen protector and added fingerprint to see if I have the same issue, but I can unlock it only with the registered finger.
This is what I am using: https://a.aliexpress.com/_dVqN8F6
Works great with a Spigen Case.
Has good oleophobic coating
