MAC randomization in P9 - Huawei P9 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I've bought a WiFi repeater/extender with the intention of connecting to my P9 hotspot and connect to all my devices at home using my phone data allowance, but every time I switched the hotspot off and on again, it never connects back to the extender again.
Finally after some head bagging while trying to troubleshoot the issue, I've realised that the Mac address changes automatically every time I switch the Hotspot on and off, rendering the range extender useless!
After some google search, I've realised that is called Mac Randomization and it's a stupid feature.
I also tried a Samsung Note 8 and this doesn't happen at all!
Do you know a way to disable the MAC randomization on my Huawei P9 please?
Many thanks

Yes, on Nougat, Tethering hotspot changes MAC address every time it's turned on.
But I tested also with Oreo, P9 rebranded to Chinese AL10c00b540 - and on Oreo, Tethering hotspot keeps always the same MAC address.:
Three screenshots, for each test I even renamed the Tethering hotspot name, but it's MAC address remained constant
---
PS: For the matter of fact, MAC Randomisation is something else:
- Device should change its MAC address when connecting to different WiFi Access points / Hotspots, to protect its privacy
(not to change the MAC address for its own Tethering hotspot)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theregister.co.uk/AMP/2017/03/10/mac_address_randomization/
And regarding to that, both Nougat and Oreo do not change their MAC addresses when connecting to different WLAN connections, but always and everywhere connect with the same MAC addresses (you can test by installing eg Network Utilities app from Playstore)
Anyway, I don't know why on Nougat it changes iMAC address of its own Tethering hotspot (and why not on Oreo), and I don't see any settings to control that

Can't connect to Internet through WiFi

I recently installed a new router & tried connecting my Kaiser through WiFi...I can establish a connection...but no internet, msnger etc seems to be working....
Would anyone know the casue??? please help???
I have got the same problem. I do have an wifi connection and I can browse my shared folders, but i cant connect to IE opera msn or whatever. does somebody know how to resolve this
Guys... there's lots more information needed....
Is there security set up on the router? (If so, disable it until the problem's solved)
Can you see the router?
Is your router set for DHCP? If so, did you check to see if you're getting address info to the PPC?
My money is on no DNS setting on the PPC or security settings.
re
i had the same problem i changed the wireless power mode from best battery to best performance and it worked
I noticed it happens with pie not opera so in my case i blame it on the hidden proxy. media net and activesync passthru work just not pie
I have had a similar problem with my BT Home hub. It was connecting OK but would not transfer data. I changed the channel on the hub and that seemed to solve things.
security is all off . firewall off. my router or adapter is set to DHCP. i can see my router on my phone. its connected to my router and the signal is very good. i have tried to change the channel still no internet.

[Q] WiFi issue in NODO update?

Guys i have two questions for those who tried the new NoDo update:
What about the hidden Wi-Fi networks, is there any option available now?
WP7 had some bugs regarding connecting to secure Wi-Fi networks, is it solved now?
Thanks,
NoDo still won't see hidden networks, still don't have fix IP...
I have the same problem with Wifi! I can connect it succesfully in my house but when i go to the cafe/bar or something similar i can't get it to work! My ip adress is also weird...
* Wi-Fi improvements. We now display your phone’s Media Access Control (MAC) address in Settings. (You might need this info if you try to connect to a Wi-Fi network that uses MAC address filtering. To learn more, see Connect to a Wi-Fi network.) We’ve also removed the limit on the number of Wi-Fi profiles that you can store and reduced the time it takes to start your phone if you’ve stored lots of Wi-Fi profiles.
yeah i too cannot connect to any hidden wifi networks, really annoying as they use hidden networks on all cruise ships so cant use it!

[Q] Cable modem/router: Wifi signal ok but no connection

Hi guys,
My phone: Samsung Galaxy S3, GT-I9305, Android 4.1.2
I changed the ISP (Germany: To Unitymedia) and are now supposed to use a cable modem which as well serves as wifi router. My hardware is TC7200 (Technicolor).
After setting up everything, the wifi connection to Win 7 laptop and Apple iPhone/iPad is working fine (also LAN connection to laptop of course).
The S3 showed a funny behavior: It is possible to establish a wifi connection and it gets IP address assigned. Default gateway, DNS server looks all fine. However, this is only the wifi signal but not an internet connection. It is not possible to reach any website.
The strange thing: If the google site is cached (from a different connection and then switching back to this problematic one) I can run a google search and get results displayed. However, it is not possible to open any websites displayed as results here.
I tried several things based on suggestions in the net, like restarting the s§, using static IP address, changing wifi ports, disabling wifi encryption completely, restart the router, factory reset the modem/router. Finally I performed a factory data reset for the S3 but this as well, like all other things, did not help. The phone was never rooted until before yesterdays factory reset, because I wanted to use Titanium Backup which requires root rights.
Of course, in all other wifi networks so far, this S3 works absolutely fine!
I am not sure if this matters at all, but with the new ISP I got an IPv6 IP address while before I had IPv4.
To be honest, it might simply be a hardware problem which has to be fixed by Firmware upgrade by ISP. This problem is sort of known to them and when I called in they promised a firmware update in November. But anyway, it would be interesting to understand more about it and usually there is a solution for everything Nevertheless, I couldn't find a solution in any forum yet.
Any suggestions / ideas welcome.
Thanks!
EDIT:
Post already moved.
Reads like wrong settings more than hardware .
WiFi is kernel you can flash a kernel .
But i would reboot router and phone then set up wifi with no security first .

Exclude a specific AP MAC address on stock Wifi Picker but all APs have the same SSID

Hi guys!
I'm in an hospital because of a motorbike accident, and I have to stay there for at least 4 weeks.
In this hospital they have a Sophos APs infrastructure, with multiple APs with the same SSID.
I noticed that the closest AP to my hospital room is not well configured.
I receive from it the IP via DHCP, but I don't have internet access.
Same thing on both 2.4ghz and 5.2ghz bands of this AP.
I see the Mate10Pro trying to get the IP and probably checking internet access, and because there is no internet access it tries to switch between the two bands.
I enabled in System>Developer Options the "enable details on wifi SSID picker", so I can see the MAC address, the signal strenght in dB and the frequency.
With WPA Tester app in my Mate10Pro I get the list of all APs nearby with their MAC address, all APs as I said have the same SSID (in the Sophos APs they enabled the "roaming" function).
In WPA Tester I can choose a specific AP from the list and connect to it.
If I connect to the other ones than the closest one, they work fine, I have IP and also internet access.
Surely I will notice to hospital workers that they have a setting problem in their wifi infrastructure, and I will tell them the MAC address of the specific AP (the closest to my room) that have the problem.
But in the meantime, is there a way in stock Mate10Pro 8.0.0.145 no root to filter the MAC addresses of the AP the phone wifi connects to in the stock wifi picker?
I didn't find anything to do a such filter.
Because after a few minutes, the wifi picker switch to the closest AP, because it's signal strenght is more powerful than the one I connected to with WPA tester.
In the meantime I solved the problem by using NetSetMan software in my Win10 notebook with an Intel AC7265, in NetSetMan I created a profile with the specific MAC address of the closest AP that works, and then enabled the Win10 hotspot. My Mate10Pro connects to this hotspot.
Thanks for your help guys!
Have a great day!
Fabio

WiFi Bridge

Don’t know if this is a Huawei feature or a More recent Android feature but under Tethering and Hotspots is an option I’ve not seen before.
Allows you to share your currently connected WiFi connection so you can either use the phone as a temporary extender or to share with house guests without sharing your main router password
I see this being useful if you are connected to a WiFi network that you cannot share the password to (e.g. a login based public wifi).
It works great. Really handy feature.
