[Help] I think I just bricked my Note 9 - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I have a locked T-Mobile variant of the Note 9, Yesterday I updated to Pie using the method of applying the update file from firmware.science and everything went ok.
I didn't like pie after a few hours so I did my research to odin back to Oreo, got a hold of the latest odin build, samsung drivers and such and also the last Oreo firmware for the T-mobile variant.
I did everything I'm supposed and Odin flashed the firmware just fine no hiccups.
then the phone got off the download mode to restart and now it's been on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 secured by knox screen for almost 30 minutes, nothing happened so I tried to turn it off and It wouldn't until I pressed power + volume down but it only turner off for a second or two.
I have been trying to figure out if I did something wrong.. and maybe I did by forgetting to not doing a factory reset before doing the Odin back to Oreo.
I hope that isn't the case , since I'm not sure I am asking for help.
I was able to turn it off again by pressing power and volume down then quickly pressed volume down bixby and power and it entered download mode again.
I also tried to see if I could get it do the same for recovery but I can't.
and also I'm not even being able to turn it off ..
Any pointers, opinions would be really appreciated.

either you will need to be quick enough to switch from vol down and power ( once you feel the device vigrate from a forced reset) and then be very quick and vol up +bixby +pwr to get to recovery and choose shutdown phone to be able to go back to DL mode... OR wait till battery runs out, charge it for 10 mins and then do the DL mode procedure.

I just figured it out and somehow I was able to get it work!!
thanks a lot
now please a mod close the thread or delete it

well, didn't do much really, as I said on my OP I wasn't able to shut down the phone but I was able to press power/volume down to get it to restart while it turned off for that second I quickly pressed Power/volume down and bixby and then got back in download mode then I did Odin the firmware once again.
The instructions I was following were from Samfrew.com it said to hit the AP/PDA button to load a tar.md5 file from the firmware folder I extracted from their zip file then finally press Start.
Well I didn't follow such instructions this time I loaded every single tar.md5 file as every button on Odin.
Ex. AP to AP, BL to BL, CP to CP and so on but not the HOME_CSC since there isn't a button on Odin anyway.
flashed all that, it finished then Voila it rebooted just fine.

awesome, flashing the note 9 seems a bit more technical than the other flagships. I will give it a whirl. How do you like it so far.

i did something similar i updated my att to the csa7 pie update through an ota zip and it was working fine but notifications were not coming through so i tried to do another updated version of pie through an ota and it didnt work in my recovery menu theres something that says lacking storage boot i clicked that by accident and i pressed no so i backed out when i tried to boot my note 9 it started bootlooping and i now i cant get past setupconnection on odin i have downloaded almost every file and odin i can find to no avail any tips?

Did you fix it
If you have TWRP
Press Vol down, bixby and power
Or
Power, bixby, volume down.
Phone will turn off immediately press volume up, bixby and power then you'll go into TWRP.

Well at least it is worth it... especially when going to Oreo.. it is much better than PIE
Enjoy!

3 button quesion

hello all,
question about the 3 button fix for the captivate. I just got the captivate a few months back and before i decided to rom it i investigated all the recovery tools i would need just in case.
I found 2 different variants of Odin3 one that needed a pit file and PDA file and another that had just one click restore to 2.1.
I tried the pit / PDA first if i recall it appeared to lock up, not sure on what part but i got it back in DL mode and then tried the one click which worked.
now let me preface this with before i tried anything i ensured the 3 button combo for download mode worked, and it did. I flashed Apex 5.2 and ever since then the 3 button combo ceased to work. I recently flashed to Firefly 3.0 and still the 3 button doesnt work, it would also appear the recovery mode does not work as well.
I have been getting to these modes using ADB, which works fine, but I would love to get 3 button back... but if its a risky procedure i will live with it, i do have a jig on the way, which just in case i can use to get back. but that leaves recovery mode not really accessable unless i use ADB?
any how thoughts comments suggestions are all welcome and thanks for being such an awesome site!
On a custom rom, hold the power button. Extended power menu has recovery and download right there.
How have you not seen it??
also SEARCH there is an odin that fixes the 3 button combo...
download mode is 2 button combo and no way to loose it.
hold both volumes + then plug in usb (keep held til screen comes on)
recovery mode is 3 button combo..
hold both volumes + then hold power (keep ALL held til screen comes on for 3 seconds)
studacris,
Yes i have seen the reboot into recovery, which is great the only issue i have is when flashing a different rom i want a back out solution. I also have found the fix, but was wondering how risky is it to apply this fix, and will it stay fixed? i would rather live with a minor inconvenience then a hard brick situation. thanks for the info=)
edit: this is the thread i was reading for the fix is this the most up to date one? also the attachment is missing the PIT file, is it needed anymore?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439
TRusselo,
yeah i cant do either of those, which is my concern
odin one click flashes both bootloaders but sometimes, in later build phones the one click sbl.bin will, lose it's combo. The fix flashes the secondary bootloader, that is known to always work.
It's about as risky to flash as odin one click if not safer because it's only flashing one bootloader instead of both.
The pit file isn't needed you are not messing with the partitioning table in the least. Just put the .tar in the pda slot.
Just note, if you go to gingerbread, go back to stock with the one click. If you use the 3 button fix version you will guaranteed brick your phone.
Important to note that if you've flashed an I9000 based ROM your 3 button may have changed to vol up-home-power. If that doesn't work and you're on a 2.1 or 2.2 ROM then you've probably just lost the sbl for 3 button and need to reflash it.
You should always be able to get into download mode via hold down vol up and vol down and plugging in the USB cable, I've never lost that.
awesome thank you for putting my mind at ease,
if i flash the fix will i need to flash the fix every time i flash to a new froyo based rom?
hmm odd cause i seem to have lost download mode.
what i have been doing to get into DL mode is;
turn off the phone,
pull battery and sim (i dont have an external SD),
put battery back
hold vol up and vol down then plug in usb cable that is connected to a PC i will get a battery charging display on screen
once you flash it you should be good to flash whatever else on top of it.
one last thing,
in that thread i linked with the fix, the instructions say to take a PDA.tar file and a pit file which was added with the odin download, but the odin download is by itself no pit file, opening the PDA.tar file i can see the SBL.bin file so i am assuming that we may not need the pit file?
you dont need the pit. it is fine.
thank you, i'll give it a try next time a flash a new rom =)
i appreciate all the info guys =)

[Q] Soft Brick issue

Hi,
First time working with a samsung phone, so im not very used to some samsung realted soft.
I'm doing a favor to a friend, he came to this problem where his phone woudnt boot up, He says one day he run out of battery and coudl never turn it on again.
when i turn it on, it gets stucked at boot image (first attached image), if i try to charge the battery image appears but with the loading logo (the loading logo is not moving), he told me that he also tried with another battery and the same appeared.
For what i've read there is a download mode besides recovery mode. I think i have no problem entering download mode (3rd pic), even though i don't know how to use it, pressing a button does nothing, and pluggin it to a pc (drivers installed it) seems the same.
So i wanted to enter recovery mode, and trying o factory reset it, but when i try to enter most of times nothing happens, the others i get weird screen like the one i attached.
I'm not pretty sure how to preceed now. The only thing that appears to be working is the download mode. If that's the case, how can i flahs the stock firmware on it?
Thanks for reading!

You would do the same thing as if it were custom firmware, goto http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/, and download the stock firmware compatible with the device
Enter the device in download mode and flash the stock firmware with Odin
Instructions by SamMobile self:
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minute

thanks for the reply, i think i might be doing something wrong, ODIN failed, i attach a screenshot, any idea?
I cannot tell much from the screenshot to be honest, all i can point at would be a newer version of Odin as the instructions told: [LINK TO ODIN 3.09]

Same error as before
im downloading some other firmwares to try, but i dont think there is the problem :s
I've been having this issue for months now. It does that exact thing. Try removing the SIM card and starting the phone as normal and see what happens. If it starts then, we have the exact problem. Mine works perfectly WITHOUT the SIM card but....what's a phone without a SIM card right? I've tried putting the Stock ROM on to no avail as well. I think my thread about this is still somewhere around but I doubt anyone managed to solve the problem either.
If you do work something out post it back. Sorry I couldn't be much help.
E: just posting my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778167

Please Help! SM-N910T No DRK, Please Flash ENG Binary then install DRK

I have tried many different files and answers from threads on here as well as other sites on the net but none have fixed my issue so I have decided to create a thread for my specific issue to see if i can get any help this way.
Background:
Samsung Note 4 (T-Mobile)(USA)
SM-N910T
Phone was working fine until about 8:30am on March 22nd. I was sitting in the waiting room at the doctors listening to YouTube and all of a sudden the sound stopped from my headphones and I looked down to see what happened and my phone was rebooting. I figured oh well just open up YouTube again and keep on keepin on. To my surprise, my device was stuck in a bootloop.
I waited until after the doctors visit to look at my phone, as when it happened my name was called. I got home and tried to restart the phone and see what was going on.
Removed battery
Held power button down for 3 seconds
put battery back in
attempted power on
back to bootloop
I then began googling and searching for answers for my problem
most said it was the battery
luckily i have an extra battery for when on vacation
removed battery
held power button down for 3 seconds
put other battery in
attempted power back on
this time it got to the home screen for maybe 45-60 seconds then it restarted and back into bootloop
more searching...
flash stock firmware with Odin...ok..
downloaded stock firmware from sammobile
downloaded latest Odin
opened odin
checked ap
chose .md5 file for ap
powered the device into download mode by pressing volume down, home and power button (then volume up and power to actually get to download mode)
started odin
took just under 10 minutes
pass
device reboots on its own into recovery
wipe factory reset
wipe cache
reboot system now
phone boots into recovery and red text says Device does not have DRK (Device root Key), contact to SW PL
Please flash ENG Binary then install DRK
i thought maybe a bad firmware file so i tried about 6 others and i get all the same error.
A note, when the phone reboots after flashing with Odin the phone shows the android man and says installing then error and brings me to the recovery screen again.
I cant get to the home screen at all anymore, it only gets to the Samsung screen then bootloop
In recovery know warranty shows 0x0
and firmware as Samsung Official
Can any kind soul help me?
plz hlp
any body?

Galaxy S10 will NOT boot into Android.

Hi, i recently flashed stock after having LineageOS 17 for some time, and by the time the firmware flashed, everything seemed fine, first it went into recovery and did a factory reset, then it rebooted again, and nothing happened.
If i normally try powering it on with the power button, nothing. not even a bootloop. i can only boot into recovery mode and odin mode. i've reflashed the firmware 5 times now and the same issue still occurs.
and if i try rebooting into system from recovery, literally nothing happens, only black screen. i also tried force reset which didnt do anything and was still on a black screen. (keep in mind, by black screen i mean that nothing shows up on the screen, no logo.)
the firmware is G973FXXU4BTA8_G973FOXM4BTB1_BTU
i hope someone can help me fix this, because its driving me crazy!
Download the latest firmware. Put ur phone into download mode. Shut off the phone, hold volume down and bixby, connect type c connector to the phone and then usb to computer. Load bl, ap, cp home csc. Never factory reset on a custom rom.

i did that countless of times, it just stays on a black screen, but i havent tried doing Home CSC yet, but i assume it'll just stay on a blank screen now
i already got it to work with patching the latest firmware with magisk on another device, but i still need twrp to work, thats my main issue now

[Q] Stuck in bootloop after trying to install a custom ROM, unable to detect the device through ADB/Fastboot [Solved]

Title says it all. But for those that want to know a bit more in detail about what's going on, I tried to install this custom ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-oneui-2-5-twrp-ncx-2-5-for-a71-sm-a715f.4174135/ Clearly I did something wrong (a bit more clarification in that guide would help people not used to rooting an Android device getting through that process easier), so now I want to go to square 1 by installing the stock ROM again. But the thing is, after installing multidisabler through TWRP, the phone is not permanently stuck into a bootloop and now I can't even go into safemode, nor download mode, and I can't enter the recovery mode, the only thing my phone is capable of doing is to restart by itself by holding the volume down and the power buttons at the same time, and now ADB nor Fastboot can't detect my device (the PC does a Samsung device being connected though, so it's not a hardbrick, I guess).
Samsung devices do not use Fastboot. You should restore through Odin instead.
Try the following:
1. Download Odin on your computer, you can get it from here. Extract it into a folder.
2. Download the firmware for your device. Find out your device model first and then look on http://samfw.com, I've downloaded from there a lot in the past, it works great.
3. Extract the firmware, you should get five files: AP, BL, CP, CSC, and HOME_CSC.
4. Make sure your device is powered off, and press power + volume down + bixby. You should be asked to confirm you want to enter download mode, press the volume up button.
5. Plug your device into the computer, then select the files for all the slots. Use CSC, not HOME_CSC for CSC (CSC is for fresh restore, HOME_CSC is for software update).
6. A device should show in the top bar, something like [COM:6]. This means your device is connected. If it isn't there, make sure your device is plugged in and in Download Mode.
7. Click flash. The firmware should start to flash and there should be a progress bar in Download Mode. Once it's finished your device should reboot into the system.

Well, trying to reflash everything through Odin has been a thing I tried to do, but how am I supposed to shutdown a phone that is stuck at the Samsung logo (is there any combination to shutdown a Samsung during the boot process?)? And even after that, how am I supposed to press "power + volume down + bixby" if both the power and bixby buttons are the same buttons?

I tried entering Download Mode hours ago, but to no avail. Even before flashing mutidisabler through TWRP (and thus, the phone was working), I had to use ADB in order to make my phone be able to enter Recovery Mode, since the combo for recovery and download mode just made my phone make a loud noise and restart my phone onto safe mode.
Ok, here's an update, apparently pressing those buttons, makes the screen have the same, but at least Odin recognizes the drive, but now I'm stuck at this error: "Complete(Write) operation failed."
Something's weird here, I'm 99.9% sure I did activate USB debugging for this phone, although that was just before wiping the entire drive before the phone got stuck in this loop.
Fixed. Many thanks to @hainguyenthao for helping me out ^^

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble installing the ROM and I'm glad you were able to fix it.
I unfortunately can't see a way that I could make the tutorial on how to install the ROM any easier. I'm almost certain I covered all my bases going over the perquisites and how to install the ROM. I also have a Telegram group in that thread so that users can join if they are ever stuck in any of the steps so that either me or other users that have successfully installed the ROM can help people in doubt since I'm not available 100% of the time. If you ever decide to give it a try again, don't be shy, you can always join the group and request for help.
