[Q] from x4 to g7 Plus - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone.
Do you think the brand-new Moto G7 Plus is worth upgrading from our Moto x4? I have reteu 4/64 (220€ - 9 months ago) and I found a special offer for G7+ at 257€.
x4 pros:
- Front fingerprint sensor
- Ultra-wide second camera
- More compact
- Waterproof
g7+ pros:
- Bigger screen
- Better SoC (636 vs 630 - Qualcomm naming is a little weird, 636 is WAY better, it's basically an underclocked 660)
- Better main camera (OIS is a game changer)
- Stereo speakers
- Newest (updates, etc)
What do you think?

I would do it immediately. Unfortunately I do not have the money for it otherwise I would have already done that or would do it in the next few days.

I normally stick with the X line because I like nfc for mobile payments. This time, however, the hardware difference might make me go back to G even though no NFC on the US G7.

I use NFC too, but Italian G7 will have NFC so no problem for me.
Unfortunately the promo ended a few days ago, I'm gonna wait for some similar Amazon deals...

Is moto X4 retail version eligible for andriod Q update ?
As the 6GB RAM variant shipped with Oreo 8.0 out of the box, two major updates are promised from Moto for a premium/flagship models. Pie is just the 1st major upgrade

Then there's no need of using smartphones. Using basic handsets makes sense here. Basic handsets doesn't control people lives..

I like the smaller screen of the X4.
A better camera isn't going to make my pictures any better.
I use a mono bluetooth headset so stereo speakers are useless.
I prefer 8.1 to pie and i am keeping my x4's on 8.1 for now. Works for me.

[Q] Is it an Upgrade?

Hello,
Right now I have Galaxy Note N700, the original Note, and I am considering buying the new Moto G.
Do you consider this as an upgrade over my 3 year old phone specs wise?
When I compare it in GSM Arena, they are almost identical except for the processor which is Exynos 4210 for my old Note and Snapdragon 400 for the Moto G. When I google their differences, it seems that the Exynos chip is still more powerful than the Snapdragon 400 but the former is Dual Core 1.4 GHz Cortex A9 while the latter is Quad Core 1.2 GHz Cortex A7.
So is this a worthy upgrade? Because I do not wana buy expensive phones anymore, I will be needing it for call and texts, FB, browsing and some light gaming only.
Thank you!
Buy Moto G Asap!!
Upgrade Your Phone!! Buy Moto G (2nd Gen) cheap price. and smooth than butter. very fast phone. its feel like nexus phone. Moto G is Awsum device. with upgrade Garenty From motorola. Moto G also will get android lemon pie(5.0) on Jan to Feb. :good:
The Moto G is worth every dollar. Is go for it. It runs smooth, has a nice size and great build overall.
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The Asus ZenFone 5 has piqued my interest. More RAM, faster processor, same display, same with MicroSD slot.
Asus Zenfone 5 may not get the Android L update.
What to buy...
I have a get a "cheap phone" and a "expensive Tablet" attitude.

If you are happy with your Note, software is ok and everything els is fine, I would stay on Note
It will probably be an experience upgrade, because the Moto software is very light. I have touchwiz on a Note 10.1 (2014) and the Samsung bloat sucks. That said, my advice is get a first-gen G 16GB model while they are still available cheap. My impression is aside from not having expandable storage, it is a better phone (all same specifications except screen size, but the resolution did not improve). If you are willing to hold-off a bit and wait for a new mid-price phone option, the new Nexus should be out within a month or 2.
It is a worthy upgrade from the original G and the old Note. You will get Android L with this device as well. Read my review here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55536919
Just remember this is a budget phone at $180, when the Note came out it was $800. In any case it's still a better phone because of stock Android and useful Motorola additions. The new Nexus will probably be $400. (I don't think it will be $349 this time).

I have moved from the N7000 to a G and it's great, initially I wanted the bigger screen, but the whole package on the G is faster smoother and generally easier to use, not so much stuff you won't ever use! It also fits in your pocket easily.
At the prices of the G at the moment try it, you will be surprised
I will skip on the original G since I really need the SD Card slot. That is why I am considering Moto G 2014.
I am using SlimKat now on my Note I. It lags but it is acceptable compare to when I flashed a JellyBean stock rom.
What is limiting for me with the G 2014 is the 1GB ram, because right now with my Note, it cannot handle a lot of apps. It will always open a new app and not from where I left it.
e.g.
The Chrome browser is really slow on my Note, not slow because of internet connection but slow because it just lags a lot.
Plays Youtube with stutters.
Facebook after clicking on an external link and returning to FB will start from the top.
I am also looking at Asus Zenfone 5, another value for money device.
I like the specs but there is no dedicated XDA thread for this device. It means no development.
The reason I am still holding on to my GNote and still acceptable for daily use is because there is still few developments happening, I still got Kitkat.
In that case, I would recommend a bigger jump and get a mobile phone with 2GB of ram
At Moto G's price point, do you recommend any other than Asus Zenfone 5?

Moto G 2014 - would you prefer it anytime over ...

Hello Moto G (2014) users,
I am thinking about buying a Moto G 2nd Generation (2014) - the dual sim version. I currently have an Acer Liquid E2 Duo... there are some issues with the Acer (photo quality with the 8M camera is the most annoying for me). That's why I would like to kindly ask you: would you prefer anytime a Moto G 2014 (dual sim version) over an Acer Liquid E2 Duo? Is the camera much better? And what about the battery life? Or would you stay with the Acer?
Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!
Conrad
For my moto g 2014 is very nice, battery during one day with WiFi connect, 2 or 3 call é messages...
Compare them
Acer Liquid E2 Duo

Moto G 2014
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Motorola-Moto-G2-Smartphone-Review.129140.0.html
The camera is good for the price, better than other mid-range phones I've looked at, but also not great. I don't use the camera that much, so it wasn't a priority for me, and I've never used the Acer so I can't make the direct comparison, but if camera quality is your priority, and you don't want to spend the money on a current flagship phone, my advice would be to get an older flagship phone (Like the S4 or LG G2). They aren't the latest and greatest, and you might have to live without the latest Android updates for some (unless you use a custom rom), but you can find good deals, and they'll have better cameras and fast processors than the Moto G.

Flagship Killer Realme X2 Pro Master edition wins over OnePlus 7T Pro Mclaren

While comparing Realme X2 Pro Master edition and OnePlus 7T Pro Mclaren
Realme X2 Pro Master edition wins with the features listed as
1) Cost wise - value for money for mostly same hardware. Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus, 12 GB RAM, 256GB Internal Storage
2) 50w Charging - 0 to 100% battery in less than 30 minutes with 2 Battery (Total 4000 mAh)
3) Headphone Jack - big winner for many who still loves wired headphones or earphones
4) 4 Cameras - Higher 64MP , 20x Zoom and 2MP Macro Depth Portrait Sensor
5) No movable selfy/front camera with teardrop display - Eliminates mechanical wear and tear
OnePlus 7T Pro Mclaren wins with OxygenOS
Paying almost twice the price of Realme X2 Pro Master edition for OxygenOs is not worthy.
Realme X2 Pro Master edition needs plenty of custom OS to balance what Color OS is lacking and Dev support for this Hardware Beast in XDA is essential and will encourage Devs to lend their help . Doesn't these features listed above excite many? Please do share your inputs and recommendations to help others.:good:
Hmm, only difference between normal 12GB X2 pro and a master edition is that special colours and 6P lens over 5P or there's something more ? If that's all there is no point to pay more for the same stuff you can get in normal 12GB model over Master Edition IMO
Edit. Also Master Edition is not available as a global as far as I know but 12/256 is.
Making this type of posts is imo useless ! Can't understand what is your objective with this .
Justify the purchase of your X2 Pro ?
I will say what does the OP7T Pro has better then .
Cameras - they use Sony sensors instead of Samsung , each camera has more lenses l elements for less distortion and more clarity . The software is waaaaay better . Low light you can't even compare .
Hardware - yes it doesn't have headphone jack but what the X2 Pro has isn't any good too ! Has too much background noise and you can't use higher ampedince headphones , it's restricted to basic earphones. Better built quality ( can't understand why the X2 Pro has a lip between the screen and the body so prenounce ) .
OS - do I really need to talk about it ? I will say just one thing ... OxygenOS my friend ? and no nonsense bootloader and FP restinctions .
Special edition - are you really going to compare a McLaren edition to the master edition? Jesus
Charging - the 50W on the X2pro is the same thing off oppo and here is the defining factor of the X2 Pro for now ! The ONLY phone with such a fast charging ( we need to wait to see the problems of this in the future ) .
I thing I made my point .
Don't dish what you can't buy ! The OP7T Pro has a place ! And it's well earned !
If I could buy it I would and most people here on XDA .
Be realistic . I love my X2 Pro and until now I don't regret buying it . But it's not the best thing ever !
I picked the X2 pro over op7t... The plus on the X2 pro over the 7t are more important to me. 3.5mm jack is fine and usable and I'd much prefer it over not having one. Camera is excellent if used correctly. 12gb 256gb storage and over £100 cheaper then the 7t... I also prefer the cooler temperature screen. Colour os at least on the European version is nice and clean and works as it should and is nothing like what people try to make out. I love oxygen but its no Saint and according to the 7,7 pro,7t community forums it still has issues that I had on my 6t at launch like the phone powering down and only turning back on with a button combination and the ****ty double tap to wake working intermittently. There's pros and cons to both but for me the X2 pro is the better device.

Master edition with Global firmware was released in India a week before and soon in Europe and USA.
Realme X2 Pro price in USD equivalent as on 10/Jan/20 from flipkart
6GB RAM 64GB Memory - $394.16
8GB RAM 128GB Memory - $422.21
12GB RAM 256GB Memory - $478.51
Master edition 12GB RAM - $492.53
Really interested to buy this over the Oneplus 7T Pro, if only Oneplus sticked to their original price range then they could have been the Flagship killer they've been known for, now they're trying hard to be Samsung XD.
Anyway, is the development scene for this device promising enough to warrant a purchase? Before I start to purchase a new device my normal practice is to check the XDA community if it has some Custom OS flavor
Thanks in advance for those who can share their wisdom.

Ye, you're right, that's actually the only difference. It'd be wise for realme to sell master editions on other markets, but it's only in chinese and Indian version
At such a price we are getting :-
1:- Still Battery Charging King in 2020
2:- Dual stereo speakers with dolby
3:- 855+ ufs3.0
4:- Headphone jack
5:- Superamoled
6:- (Fast app load, boot time,fp and face unlock) even beats iPhone 11 pro max.

Question Vivo X Fold vs Xiaomi Mix Fold 2

Hey guys,
It appears that Vivo and SamEsung have a new threat on the horizon... The Xiomi Mix Fold 2!
Thinner, ligher, having better spec than the X fold, almost same size screens as the X Fold...
And let's face it, Xiaomi has a better software than Vivo plus this will be their second gen fold and they have some feedback by now... The cameras are quite similar too. The price also. I might switch... Just for the experience...
Link
Any thoughts?
I wouldn't necessarily say the software is better yet. I will say it could be more flexible for rooting and other things but better is kind of subjective. That said I'm curious to see vivo implement android 12 L. Honestly I'm a bit concerned about their updates in relation to adoption of new os updates like android 12L and android 13
Vivo will be releasing a refresh of the X Fold called the X Fold S. Seems to be exactly the same but with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen1... They might switch their interest to it after release so I'm not sure how things will unfold.
Xiaomi has the plus of having official bootloader unlock options and the Xiaomi EU custom roms that support even China only devices. Another thing is that Xiaomi has a lot bigger user base and more development...
Don't know how you can say Mix Fold 2 is better than X Fold?
Beside it very thin and of course 8+ gen 1
No flex mode
No wireless charge and reverse wireless charge
Smaller battery
No inner screen selfie camera
No Under Screen Fingerprint Sensor

The last two are actually plusses for me...
Flex mode? There is no flex mode on the X Fold. Only the Samsung have this.
Wireless charging is the biggest evil ever conceived... Slow, heating up the entire device...
Smaller battery? To my knowledge both have 4500mAh battery packs.
Anyway... Different people different needs... I like my X fold but xiaomi is xiaomi...

Ok so there is a flex mode that is only supported by the vivo video player and netflix... Wow... This is why i have never seen it...
And the battery is 4600mAh on the vivo! A whole 100mAh more. That is almost 10 minutes more battery life
But yeah OK, it has those. We don't know what software will the Xiaomi have exactly so it might or might not have a flex mode... (Quite usesless for me personally but other people use it. I had Galaxy Fold 2 at one pointand did not use it there too)
Once again different people different use cases ...
With root and bootloader unlock I am extremely happy with the x fold. I can’t see myself jumping ship unless xiaomi / vivo does something special. Honestly I’m happy. Having said that xiaomi is a bit more developer friendly in some circumstances (not all). I guess it is try before you buy.
I have ordered the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 and will update the thread when it arrives. It has an unlockable bootloader which will make rooting with Magisk straight forward, but be aware that it runs on MIUI 13.1 Fold firmware which is based on Android 12, not 12L. Xiaomi is working directly with app developers to create foldable tweaks. Xiaomi EU has confirmed they will not undertake a custom ROM for this device, as the CN firmware is unique to this single device and Xiaomi EU will not do one off projects. Also the good old Xiaomi dialing code that enables VoLTE on devices not supported by carrier SIM settings does not work on MIUI 13.1 firmware. I'm hoping that a Magisk module or editing the build.prop will solve that problem for me, as my carrier (Rogers Canada) won't support VoLTE for the device and thus when voice calls drop to 3G when travelling in the US I wouldn't be able to place phone calls.

I too like how I have configured everything on my X Fold, especially with the launcher I use, but the Mix Fold 2 has some definite pluses too. I'll probably wait for a while to see how things go and some reviews and then decide...

This is false info, I confirmed it's working on Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 (MIUI 13.1).
Xiaomi MIX Fold 2's pros compared to vivo X Fold:
Lightweight and thin, I even feel it's lighter than Xiaomi 12S Ultra
High performance, it was avg. 59.9fps with Genshin highest quality
No punch hole
Creases are even less noticeable
VoLTE is enabled by default and force-enable command works
Touch latency of MIX Fold 2's inner screen is far better than vivo (and even normal flagships), it's 37.6ms where vivo was 56.7ms

Cons:
No flex mode, cannot be fixed at any angle
vivo's camera is better especially at night
Wattage performance is a little poor in performance mode, maybe it's better on balanced mode
Easily heated, easily cooled
No punch hole camera, but illuminance sensor is visible in light reflection

Which one would you prefer to use on a daily basis?
Also, how is the MIUI Fold interface compared to the very Chinese one of Vivo's Ocean OS?

It makes me wonder if it is china exclusive and also how is vivo going to support their older models? Checking the x70 pro + forums it isn't pretty.

I have my vivo x fold plus with me now. Delivered today. Testing.
Incredible looking, especially the red version I got.
Please tell us if there is any difference in software or significant improvements from the original x fold
Any Vivo X Fold + owners, how long does the battery last one charge?
Can't answer the question about differences from first one as never had it. Software wise they're all the same it seems, had the x 80 pro and x note before selling them.
This has better battery life than the x note did and that had a 5000mah battery! Really good wifi battery life and good cellular battery but not great. Like most phones I guess.
If you have the first I wouldn't bother get this one. Pointless. It's best fold phone for me though and I've had honor magic v, z fold 3 and 4, huawei fold, and xiaomi first folding phone
Can you please confirm if the VoLTE and Android Auto are working?
