3 Questions. Why doesnt motox4 pie have the screenshot editor like the pixel does? - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Haven't been on this forum in years! Just bought the moto x4 Android One phone after my iphone randomly broke.
1) Why is the moto x4 screenshot editor different than the one here? I am updated to android 9 january 2019.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9jg7zmAaIU
2) Will these headphones work completely? with my current generic headphones, the volume buttons don't work but worked with the iphone. (they are not specifically for the iphone, just generic)

3) how do you guys deal with the general laggyness of the phone? It was a cheap phone that I had to buy but with its specs I don't understand why its laggy.

I will tell you in a few days when I get mine.

@fupamobile my x4 isn't laggy

My phone isn't laggy, it runs perfectly.

I'm enjoying my new X4 and yes, it's lagging sometimes, but it's not a problem for me. It depends on what you're running.

go in development mode or accessibility, and disabled the animation, this is sure to end up with slowness problem, remembering how to scroll pages in social networking applications, depends much more on the quality of your internet connection with that with speed appliance

My screenshot editor looks exactly like the one in the video. Only 3 functions: pen, highlighter, rectangular crop.

[Q] Opinion on Moto X vs Galaxy Grand 2

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this question on, so forgive me if I'm making a mistake.
I am debating between buying the Moto X and Grand 2.
I use my phone to read ebooks, to take videos and pictures and to browse the internet plus I use it for work emails, whatsapp, etc.
Both phones are in the same price range.
Based on my requirements of video shooting reading ebooks, etc, which is a better phone for me?
I ask because some reviews I read said that the Moto X has a very very bad camera. I'm also debating just waiting till the end of summer for the Moto X2 or X+1 whatever it's called.
What do y'all think?
Option 1: Moto X
Option 2: Grand 2
Option 3: Wait for Moto X2 / X+1
Option 4: ???
See the thread below to see the kinds of pictures the Moto X camera can take. I wouldn't say it's terrible but not great either, kind of in between.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/post-photos-clicked-moto-x-t2405312
For me, I'm not too focused on picture quality so the Moto X camera is fine.
If you're after something that takes great photos then you might want to look at Sony or even Nokia. For eBook reading, I'd be looking at a big display size of 5 inches minimum.
I'm not too keen on Samsungs due to the rubbish Touchwiz software that comes pre-installed. Not sure about their camera quality either.
Thanks for the response!

Yes, I am currently using a 5 inch screen phone and I want that big screen for sure. I don't think there's any Sony phone out there in the same price range. I don't want to consider Nokia because I want to stick to Android.

This has been my issue with Samsung as well. I had the Galaxy S1 back in the day (lol) and I don't want to go through Touchwiz again.

Ok- So I am not getting the advantage of the MOTO X

Hello,
I have the HTC One M8 and a MOTO X. I know the X provides the Nexus like experience, but the One seems to be faster and better constructed and generally faster. From what I can tell the screens are about equal thought the X is warmer. They both have 32 GB storage but the One has Micro SD. I did not have the original X but I am not blown away by the user expereince of the X, what am I not understanding about how great this phone is supposed to be?
Thoughts?
Thanks,

I can't say about the new one yet. But I know by the old one. I left my nexus 5 for dead once I started using this phone made me go from a nexus 5 32gb to a 16gb motox I still won't switch back and I have one gig of storage left.
I haven't felt the new one yet. But this phone just feels right in your hand. But I've heard the m8 is sort of like that too.
Might sound stupid but the touch less control is something that becomes the way it should be. Would be weird to not have it but I see Google doing this eventually in all phones.
The one thing that I would really go crazy with is ..this phone wakes up when you pull it out a your pocket. I haven't touched the power button to wake in 8 months. I grab my wife's Iphone expecting to wake.
Really I think how apple amazes millions with some great features, design with low specs and great feel and usability of hardware and software is what the moto x has that maybe other androids do not. You just have to use it for a while and you will see. I hope th new one isn't to large for the feel factor or that will be negated and the software will not be worth it. It is the whole package combined that makes this phone great. Only the voice recognition is the best of any phone otherwise it does nothing the best but everything combined it is the best overall.....oh yeah in my op lol
the X is about just "refining" Android.
I also had a Nexus 5 and once I played with an X I bought one and put my Nexus 5 up for sale. I just got a new 2014 and software wise find it more refined. The only issue I have is that the 2013 was already so good and smooth the 2014 does not really add much, if anything, to it.
The X is for those that want Nexus experience, flagship specs, and great hands free controls. I get by with an 8GB device, if i could but 16 is as small as you can get. I feel that ANYONE that uses an SD card is just poor with data management. Odds are most of your music you load up you don't actually listen to regularly. if you are keeping FULL TV seasons on your phone to watch unless you are traveling thats pointless, you can just load a few eps to get through that day. Same with multiple movies with high bitrates.
I have all the apps I need, and I still have 10GB left. I have 3GB Data, that I pay $64/mo for and I NEVER go over it and I stream Google Music and Pandora in my car when driving to clients all the time. I also get company email and Gmail. I update apps over Mobile Data, and download Podcasts. My photos auto upload to g+. I tether my laptop on occasion. I can not see how anyone can go over 3GB unless you are also torrenting or doing a LOT of social media videos and photos. The closest I have come is 2.7GB in the last 18 months.
People say they need storage because they don't have Unlimited Data. You don't need unlimited data. You just need to not be stupid with your data. I know people that pay more than I do (by like $25-30) and don't get the same amount of data I do just because they refuse to show around carriers.
/rant
I agree with that too about storage. I've felt the M8 and it does feel very nice in my hands but I hate HTC Sense. It ruins the Android experience for me.

how is the One M8 faster than the Moto X? both use the same chipset. i feel the Moto X is just as fast or faster than most of the skinned Android phones. for the screens, both are using different technologies. each will have their pitfalls
Moto X is mainly for those who want some added (useful) functionality on top of stock Android. if you like Sense, then stick with the One. if you want stock with some added things, Moto X. if you want just stock, then Nexus is the way to go. choices are good :good:

I do like Sense- it has gotten so much better. I also love Nexus because of the all the development, so maybe I will give it a few more days to make a decision. I have the bootloader unlocked and root, so I know some good thing will be coming from the talented devs.
As someone who has owned both my opinions differ.
I find the Moto X 2014 much much faster and smoother than the M8. Even with the M8 running AOSP. ActiveDisplay is just awesome, its a little thing but it really is useful. The Moto X 2014 is easier to hold/use, and doesn't have a ridiculous power button located in a ridiculous spot. (My biggest dislike of the M8). While the M8 structure is beautiful and feels great, I didn't find it comfortable to hold/use. Sense 6 is beautiful but I didn't find it offered any actual value or features that I cared about or ever actually used.
Not that it takes much but the Moto X camera, while still lagging behind, is still far better than that crap 4up camera that HTC loves so much.
The Moto X does not really shine in any one way, it doesn't leap out in the crowd, its just a great phone to use.
Motorola seems to be the only Android manufacturer who actually cares about user experience. I downgraded from a Nexus 5 to the 2013 Moto X last year because it offered a much better experience. I upgraded to the 2014 Moto X this year and am not waiting for the Nexus. If you've never owned a Moto before you won't realize everything you are missing.
Moto X offers the following improvements for me:
-Active Display - HUGE plus if you've never used it
-Touchless Controls - I use this constantly in the car and at home when I'm working
-Moto Assist - great for when I am in meetings all day to silence my phone and auto reply
-Shake to activate camera - very underrated feature but if you're trying to take photos in a snap it's extremely handy
-Wave to wake phone to check notifications and silence calls - again underrated but works beautifully
-Bluetooth unlock when my 360 is connected so I don't have to type in my PIN
-Moto Migrate to keep all of my existing data seamlessly
-As close to stock as possible with these helpful additions
Also other considerations:
-Exceptional build quality - although M8 also has extremely good build quality
-Motorola is one of the only companies that actually pays attention to cell signal and reception and is superior, my Moto X 2013 hands down had better signal than my N5, 2014 is great for signal too, HTC Notoriously bad for signal
-Audio noise cancellation - the sound quality when recording and on a call is much better than other phones I have used. Moto X 2013 was FAR superior to N5 in this regard, I don't have a M8 to compare but consider it
-FAST upgrade time, we will be one of the first to get Android L - This is huge for me
I suppose a good answer will be when android L comes out, X should have it quick (of course lenovo taking over and Soni gone could change that) whereas HTC will probably be 6+ months behind because they have to retro fit the junkwear onto the new OS.
Who the hell wants skinned android L????! Not me!
Previous phone: Nexus 5
Current phone: Pure version Moto X on T-Mobile network
Comparison:
Con: touch sensitivity does not seem as good. Using swipe gestures in Nova Launcher I never had to repeat a swipe on the Nexus 5, but I occasionally do on the Moto X. I noticed there seems to be more of a lag when scrolling the screen on the Moto X. I set the phone to use ART instead of Dalvic and it seemed to help some, but the touch response still has a perceptible delay.
Pro: Voice command works well, even in noisy environments
Reception is improved
Speaker phone loudness and clarity is multiple times better. It is good and plenty loud.
IR sensors and software work great.
Screen is a little bigger, which I like.
Voice command to toggle silent mode is handy.
Battery life seems the same, or maybe slightly better.
UPDATE: I switched from Nova launcher to the Google Now Launcher, and the touch lag I mentioned in the Cons section above is no longer noticeable.
Con: I think the handoff from WiFi to cellular is not a smooth transition. The phone tries to hang on a weak WiFi signal to long before it switches to cellular, and I do have 'avoid poor connections' selected in the WiFi advanced options.

Thanks for all the comments. I had not given the X a real chance so I did, and I do love the active display and voice commands- very unique, good expereince, but HOW could Moto put a 2,300mah battery in this? The battery was flat by 2:30 under moderate use. I guess we need a UV kernel and some good battery tweaks ASAP.
I do really like the screen too, the blacks are so black, and the colors pop, almost too much... And it does just feel good in your hand.
I will give it a few more days to see how battery life occurs...
thanks,
I just picked up the new x an I also have the m8. I'm really liking the x so far never had anything besides HTC I still have my m8 tho.
Edit I been on mine all day now it has not got hot at all. Running real smooth
To comment on the battery life. Yes it's not AMAZING, probably my only complaint with the device, but it works as advertised. With fairly heavy use my first full day of charge, everything turned on, here was my usage pattern:
-Bluetooth, Wifi, and Location On
-Approx 11 hours connected to Wifi and about 8 hours using 4G
-Google Now On
-Brightness Auto
-Streaming music for approx. 1.5 hours
-GPS in use for approx. 20 min
-Screen on time just over 3 hours
-Total time until battery died almost 19 hours
That for me is much better than my original X. I have to charge the phone once a day anyway. That type of usage pattern is moderate to heavy and lasted from when I woke up to when I went to bed.

An I was worried bout battery on this phone but everything else I read made me jump ship an try the new moto. I'm really liking the phone since I picked one up yesterday...

[Q] [Bugs and more bugs] Is it safe to buy it now?

Hello guys,
I've been reading a lot of threads about some issues regarding the new Moto G in this forum and in Motorola's forum.
These issues generally are:
Touch screen not responsive
Scrolling not responsive
Notification sound with delay in sleep mode
Music playing through earphones stutters when in sleep mode
Aggressive app closing due to RAM issues
I know that it is more common to find threads about complaints and issues than threads about good experiences and approval.
So I would like to know: did you get the new Moto G and had any of these issues?
Edit: I would like to add that I did not follow the launch of the old Moto G, so I don't know if there were similar issues before and they were patched afterwards.
Thanks for the feedback!
I had a Nexus 4 and I must say the New Moto G is a massive upgrade in terms of battery. As for the screen, it is a little less sharp, but nothing noticeable unless compared side to side. I find the responsiveness is the same, maybe a little less responsive, still, nothing noticeable. Scrolling is fine.
I have noticed however when streaming songs from SoundCloud / HTML5 grooveshark, there is a weird stutter. Music starts, stops for 2 or so seconds and back again. However once I pause for around 3 seconds it plays flawlessly.
I have not noticed a notification sound display in sleep mode, however, though maybe because my phone's on silent mostly .
As to the app closing I have noticed, compared to the N4, that it shuts down more apps. The N4 had 2GB ram anyways.. I would suggest using MinFree apps(Play Store, requires root) if the closing of background apps bothers you.
In conclusion, this phone would be a definite upgrade from a 2/3 year old smartphone. Fast, no lag, and a few minor problems. Totally in love with this phone
TL;DR: Buy it, for the price it is most definitely worth it, without a doubt.

I see you have the same story as I have!
I owned the N4 for 10 months and never dropped it. The first time it fell off my pocket the screen was shattered and the touch screen stopped working.
The replacement is over US$150,00 where I live in, and it's a generic LCD/digitizer that probably is less responsive and the colors/contrast are worse than the original one.
But thanks for your feedback!

Since you have had the Moto G 2014 for a while now, would you still recommend the Moto G over buying a refurbished Nexus 4? Thank you in advance. I'm trying to make up my mind between the 2. I can get a Nexus 4 factory refurbished for $149 from Expansys.

Yes, and then- maybe no. It depends on what sort of user you are.. For me, when I had the Nexus 4, battery was the main concern. In terms of such, the New Moto G is much better. I was sceptical about the 5" screen but I've got so used to it now that I prefer it tenfold over the N4. Now about the ram, once again, if you're a power user go for the N4. Almost Identical specs yes, but the 1GB ram in my opinion makes a difference. I use Razer comms for VoIP when I game(on PC or android) and when I play games on android + Razer, due to low ram Razer stops.. There's a slight lag here and there, almost non existent but sometimes you may come home to an empty-home screen, and find yourself waiting for a few seconds before they appear again. The Camera/Speakers are a MAJOR upgrade, on par to the N5. If you're an avid after market ROM flasher, the Nexus 4 definitely, but I guess the New Moto G will catch up soon.
TL;DR I definitely say go for the New Moto G, rather than a 2 year old Nexus 4. Also, guaranteed Android 5.0!
PS. OTG too!

On that I can't give a detailed reply, since I hardly use maps but while playing around with it/ using it once or twice I didn't notice any difference. With the G2 battery, you'll be able to navigate even longer

I can tell you mine is flawless, I have it set to use Device Only meaning it only uses GPS/GLONASS lock on is fast and accurate every time.
I don't have any touch screen issues as others have described however I do have the notifications delay, music occasionally stuttering and even though the device does have aggressive RAM management (it starts closing apps when you have 300MB of free RAM left) I keep a very lean device and don't multitask much so it doesn't really affect me, my tablet only has 1GB of RAM the same and even when using that intensively it doesn't close apps the same way as the phone does.
@jay2the1, I wonder if the notification delay will be fixed either with an update or a custom rom? I hope mine doesn't have any touchscreen issues.

Motorola is currently investigating it I suspect they can fix it with an update but we need to wait until they investigate further, there is no notification delay while the phone is charging or when you are playing music and it only affects 'data' notifications like WhatsApp and email, that's why I think they can fix it as it seems to be something being too aggressive when the device is sleeping.

what are things you wish it had?

I find myself living the sensors a lot. Waving over to check the screen and then waving over thinking it will close. Has any one else done this besides me? Do you think it might be a battery saver?
I wish it had the Moto X body with the Droid Turbo hardware and a mSD slot or at least the 64 GB option from the Nexus 6. Motorola just about build the perfect phone this year, but split it among 3 models.
yea
I wish it had a micro SD slot also. What about 5 inch. Display for one handed use? What about software they could update or install?
1) Better camera. One that was up to par with other flagships.
2) Dual speakers. Guess they saved that for the Nexus 6. What a tease.
3) Wireless charging.
4) Could do with a bigger battery, but at the same time, I understand the importance of form factor for a 5.2" screen.
That's about it, I guess. I would've been willing to pay $650 for these additional things.
Currently, the camera is the #1 thing holding me back from the Moto X. The other missing things I can live with.
Wireless charging, maybe... The battery is a non-issue for me as this little battery gets as much SOT as my G3 did with a much larger battery. I don't care about the camera and this speaker is way louder than my previous phones, so I can't complain there either. Oh, maybe an IR blaster for the TV might be nice... But that's it, and even then they're not huge deals for me. This thing is basically perfect for my needs.
iPhone 6's camera & wireless charging.
Then I'd be in heaven
32Gb is plenty for me, the battery gets me through the day just fine and dual speakers (while a nice addition) are not that important for a phone IMO, as long as a single speaker is loud & clear enough (which it is in this case)
S805 and better battery life. I would sell my iPhone 6 immediately for that.

+1 this. This is the biggest gripe I have right now. The Droid Turbo is ugly and it's capacitive buttons are were outdated 2 years ago, the Nexus 6 is too big, and the Moto X still isn't up to flagship status. That combined with the locked bootloaders of Verizon just make me angry. Droid Turbo hardware in a Moto X case and screen with a mSD slot for expandable storage and an unlockable bootloader? Count me in for one even if it were $800.
1: Unlockable bootloader (VZW)
2: Dual front facing speakers
3: Micro SD slot
4: Better camera with OIS
5: Wireless charging
From what I can tell the camera issue is software related not hardware. I read on a review that a guy used a different camera app from the market and the results were much better. I can't find the article ATM though.

Even Google camera has much better results. Three shots I took over the last few days came out great - just some random pics. I think the Moto X camera app needs some fixing.

Yup I think I read that it has the same actual camera module as some of the slightly older Samsungs? S3 S4 or whatever. They took good pictures so its definitely software.
Bigger battery and SD card slot. That'd take it into superphone territory.

I wish it had better reception on non-3G/4G bands- the standard GSM radio performance is pretty terrible on mine!
I'll add one more here. A slightly brighter screen for outside. While it's not terrible, it's not great either.

For those of us on VZW and without root, this isn't easy.
Things we need -
1. Root.
2. See above.

Agree with all the points. I could actually live with the current battery, I still manage 4hours screen on time with my use. I'm tempted for the Nexus 6, but the size put it out of the equation for me. I'm not really fond of the Droid Turbo design.
yes
It would be a flagship phone if it had:
Bigger battery
Expandable SD slot
Dual speakers
I like the size of the phone is classified under smartphone and not tablet (coming front note 4) so it fits better in the hand but still kind wish it was around 5 inches for a better one hand use. Would have been nice to have a headset made just for the phone Just saying...
Not to much to complain about though i love that it's software based so it gets updates faster.

So My Moto X 2013 is getting old...

My Moto X 2013 is getting old. Too slow, not enough RAM.
But it's such an amazing phone, I cannot find anything to replace it!
There a few things I cannot give up:
- Size: all the new phones are too big. I want to be able to use it with my thumb in one hand. I need something no wider than 2.75" (70mm)
- Active Display: I cannot go back to pushing a button to turn on my phone and see alerts.
- Twist for Camera: Simply awesome. A dedicated button would be fine.
All I really need is:
- More RAM
- Faster CPU
- SD slot
- As pure as possible Android experience (or possibility to root and flash CM)
I'd also really prefer an AMOLED display. Once you get use to those blacks, there's no going back. (And the ambient display.)
Contenders:
- Nubia Z9
- OnePlus X
- Galaxy A5
- Galaxy Alpha
- Xiaomi Mi4C
- Asus Zenfone 2
- Huawei P8 Lite
- Moto G 3rd gen (too big really)
- BQ Aquaris M5
- Sony z3c
- Sony z5c - seems great but too expensive.
Note: I live in Spain, so US Carrier compatibility is a non issue.
I'm with you, and on Verizon so my choices are even more limited!

My friend, you and I are in the same boat with identical needs. Im going with Moto X Pure for Verizon
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
Your width requirement is going to limit you significantly. I'd say that the Nexus 5X or one of the new Moto phones (X Pure, Turbo 2, Maxx 2) are going to be your best bet given your list. The Motorola devices should have the twist to camera, the 5X has double tap power for camera.
i've been eyeing the Turbo2 for a while. I believe that root has been achieved on that device, which is a key requirement for me.
but otherwise, my Moto X still has plenty of RAM and runs as fast as it did when I first got it 2 years ago. my lone gripe is battery life - which deteriorates over time anyways.
I'm also in agreement with the OP. I can't work up any interest in a phone bigger than 4.0 ->4.7 that can be bootloader unlocked, and has some way to wake the thing without wearing out buttons. There aren't many around anymore despite it having once been a popular form factor.
I happened to get ahold of a really great deal (~100 bucks or so) Galaxy Alpha 850m from Brazil. I got it for a little work project but realized it was just about everything I like despite being out of production. I'm currently using both, one for personal , one for work. The Alpha is unlocked & rooted, a perfect size, but has the octa-core exynos so no "tap or wave-to-wake" functionality I'm aware of. With a slightly extended battery, it lasts at least 2-3 days and fits in any pocket I've got. I can't figure out why they took the Alpha out of production so soon since it was only out in mid-2014.
My Verizon xt1060 dev is a great phone as well, but now that they're raising the rate on my old grandfathered unlimited plan, I'm losing interest, and having been using either t-mobile or att with the Alpha, I'm happy with the coverage (well, on any ATT related plan anyway), and on t-mobile for my neighborhood or town. When the price raise goes into effect next year, I'll give up on Verizon for awhile, if not for good.
Battery-wise re 2013: I'm only noticing the usual 5.1 battery complaints. Yeah, it uses about 40% more battery than 4.4.4 did, but after some tweaking, it's surprisingly good. I get ~1.5 -> 2 days regarardless of how I use it, but I'm not a "watch movies on my phone" sort of user (or a gamer). I switched it back awhile ago to 4.4.4 for a couple of weeks and realized the battery was still in fine shape, but I do like 5.1 better so that's where it is.
I'm waiting until someone puts out a good <=4.7" phone again before getting anything else. I can't deal with those Buick sized phones.
One plus X or Z3C are your best bets.Although I don't think you'll see big difference in performance, nor much difference from the extra gig ram either.
