Huawei P Smart 2019 root/magisk - Huawei P Smart Guides, News, & Discussion

I'm looking for a new smartphone, and I'd like to get the P Smart 2019 model, because it seems well suited for my needs.
However, I haven't been able to find clear indication that it is rootable (yet). The instructions I find seem for the older (2018) model, or seem to be fake/incomplete.
One site states that huawei is no longer allowing the bootloader to be unlocked: https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-p-smart-2019-launches-uk/
So - is there anything I can follow about a possible root for P Smart 2019, or should I look for a different phone?

You can use DC-Unlocker to unlock the bootloader, but i don't know if the device is supported yet by the software.
I think it can't be rooted yet because we don't have any custom recovery for it

Thanks.... I'll wait for a month or two to see if a recovery comes along.
Would you say the P Smart 2019 will be a popular phone (e.g. that can get enough community behind so that it will be well supported in terms of root/customizations), or are there better fish in the pond?

I would say we need to wait a bit as the phone still is at the beggining of the road
If DC-Unlocked provides a unlock method, we might have devs for the device...

you can root any phone with an unlocked bootloader... you patch the boot. img with magisk manager apk and flash it back using fastboot
your problem is that yes, dc-unlocker provides bootloader unlock codes for 4€..
HOWEVEr... you are SOL cos the huawei 2019 most likely will launch with a security patch that will stop dc-unlocker...
for the p smart 2018 you can downgrade to the first version of stock rom and then unlock but i think 2019 has launched with too high a security patch..
this dude who already ordered it should contact dc and see or post here the date of his security patch out of the box
lastly DO NOT Update.. just in case you can unlock anyway..
dont buy Huawei.. they are anti dev mod and root so don't support them
get a xiaomi.. same quality and price but more dev friendly

Thank you for your suggestion. I'll have a look at a different vendor as well.

Bluetooth still crappy on this one

Huawei P Smart 2019 root manual at techdroidtips
Not sure to what extent xdadevelopers permits external links, but google allows a quick find of instructions for rooting the 2019 at techdroidtips dot com. It looks very serious and reliable. What do you guys think about?
I would go for the first "manual" method, however the easy "automatic" option with KingRoot sounds convincing, too. Any recommendations or comments are welcome!

Sorry, that site doesn't seem reliable and the pages seem autogenerated:
Before rooting, do install TWRP Recovery on Huawei P Smart (2019) (IMP STEP TWRP File May Or May Not Be available as per the development) Though methods are mentioned below that require no Recovery.

I can't find any TWRP recovery for this model, so I assume none exists yet.

jajaja ...are you joking ...kingroot ......kingroot is outdated and also adware / bloatware ....
you have been explained ...only root to road through unlocking your bootloader ....the question is whether the your security patch is outdated enough to allow you to use dc-unlocker to use their method to readback your code from your device for you
if you have an unlocked bootloader you can flash custom roms without root using fastboot and treble system images ( NO ROOT NEEDED) & If yourealky wanted root you could patch your boot.img with magisk and flash that back with fastboot
IN BOTH CASES NO TWRP EVEN NEEDED .....:silly:

In the meantime a have to admit, that you're right and the mentioned source may represent an useful general overview of available approaches, but is not at all device specific (and indeed automatic generated with replacing phone devices as tokens).
So, sorry for the terrible research so far. Hopefully the following summary is better:
1) Because Huawei stopped their Unlocking Support in Mid of 2018, we need alternative ways to do so. One of them could be DC-unlocker, however it doesn't seem to be supported yet (at least not listed as '(2019)'). So other services as for example mentioned at huaweiadvices dot com could be a solution, although they cost 35$ or more. I'm wondering how those companies (like FunkyHuawei or MinistryOfSolutions) do access/receive the Unlock code?
2) Because there aren't (somehow based on issue 1) compatible ROMs for Huawei-P-Smart-2019, yet, or at least no well known/tested ones, an experienced user like me should wait till there is an announced model supported release. A very interesting source seems to be OpenKirin. So waiting for a release for the Kirin 710 (which is not yet listed) could be promising. Btw, what ways do you know for finding fitting ROMs?
Do those two conditions seem proper to you?

Device specific custom roms seems to be the thing of the past . The future is project treble ....so for all intents and purposes there are many custom roms that could installed on your device ...read how treble works and perhaps you will understand....kirin 710 is irrelevant ...in treble you are flashing a system.img which is generic ( any treble device ) because the "drivers" for yourhardware is not in the system img ...
Magisk is the main and perhaps only cross platform root method ...once again ...your device is irrelevant ...
Your only mission here is to unlock your bootloader so you can flash .img files that are not approved by Huawei ...
So your only time spent that will be worth anything will be obtaining a bootloader unlock code
However Whichway because without it you will go pretty much nowhere ...with it ...you don't even need a twrp nor do you need a custom specifically announced as being for P smart 2019
Huawei is like Apple ..of Android ....without any jailbreak community and at a lower price / quality point
Since taking the step not to support bootloader unlocking ...they are worthless as a phone to a person who wants root and good custom roms ..
just because dc says unsupported doesn't mean it won't work ...i told you to contact by email your security patch level to enquire if it might work ...so until youhave done that this whole chat is worthless ...
if your security patch is quite recent you are SOL
you should off-load it on an old guy who doesn't know what root is and get another phone .

Hi KevMetal, thanks for your effort to clarify and increasing my understanding. Didn't want you to have yourself repeated...sry
Anyway, I tried to follow your advice and have sent now the following device information to [email protected]:

◦ EMUI-Version: 9.0.1
◦ Android Security Patch: 1st Nov' 2018
Don't know if this is enough. However couldn't find a number for the Security Patch or anything beyond that release date.
Will share the information here, If I get an answer...

The info is fine, it does according to release date ...i can almost guarantee that it's too recent .....but rather wait for confirmation ....if you are really lucky some really clever Dev or devs or unlock team looking for money will find another exploit to readback the bootloader code but as for now you are SOL ...but unless you see info floating in XDA or 4pda and it's vouched for by experienced members it's probably a scam to get cash or just adware or bloatware ... after android nougat there are / were very few legit root exploits and when legit they get patched in a security update after release locking down newer models ...cheaper or midrange devices just don't get enough attention from the right people ......not to mention that the OSgets locked down tighter and finding exploits is a time consuming past time ...:good:..sorry bro
tools like software based root exploit tools released to public depends on finding weaknesses in the security of the OS whereas bootloader unlock lets you flash images that includes root or boot images patched previously so its very different

Any news? I boutht the 2019 version and joping there will be some root method soon and perhaps some rom.
Any good dark material emui 9 theme in the meantime?
Is there any way I can enalrge icons in the status bar, they are so tiny no matter what font settings are applied?

Huawei P Smart 2019 root/magisk — missing Bootloader unlocking!
Well, unfortunately there is only little hope. I got answers from [email protected] that there is no support so far, however they „[…] hope so it will become supported in future, but there are no news or information available about it yet.“
I won't wait for it and switched to another phone...

Today, I have got bootloader unlock code for P Smart 2019 for 31 USD from
global-unlocking-solutions.miiduu.com/bootloader-unlock-codes-choose-model-below
Unfortunately I cannot get Magisk to work, tried so many things and still no root, also non of working twrp recoveries exist ...

Hi, I've been rooting other older phones before, i will read more about treble gsi, thank you, but i can promise you it is real, i've been tracking for unlock codes for my phone for two months and just yesterday they managed to generate the unlock code for me. I have no intention to lie, here are the screenshots i've been able to gather just now.
imgur.com/a/YuoGGvC
If i flash it to recovery_ramdisk and then quickly disconnect usb and hold vol up it will bootloop once (and never i get magisk installed) i have tried to install twrp for kirin 710 from honor device, but screen is not working can't touch anything then. I have downloaded latest full firmware 9.0.1.152(C432E8R1P12) and trie to patch RECOVERY_RAMDISK.IMG multiple times using magiskmanager with different versions of magisk 18v 19v with options enabled/disabled

Security update: ALE-L21C432B604/5 (Dual/Single SIM)

Doesn't seem to be EMUI 4.1, but it is an update nonetheless. Other phones have it worse.
- Dual SIM: (B604) - OTA and FULL
- Single SIM: (B605) - OTA and FULL
CHANGELOG:
This update improves system security with Google security patches.
[Optimizations]
Improved device security with Google security patches.
[Update notes]
1. This update will not erase your personal data, but we recommend that you back up any important data before updating.
2. If you experience any issues during the update, please call the Huawei customer service hotline or visit an authorized Huawei service center for assistance.

You can always find new updates with Huawei Firmware Finder, or on this page.
INSTALLATION:
OTA: You need to have stock recovery. you will extract the UPDATE.APP from the .zip and put that in a folder called "dload" in your phone's SD card. Now you can either:
Dial *#*#2846579#*#* in the stock phone app, and go Software Upgrade > SDcard upgrade or
Shutdown the phone, and then hold POWER, and both the VOL buttons until the EMUI update starts
FULL:
You can flash the update.zip in TWRP. It will show a small error but it's fine.
You can also extract the partitions boot, cust, system with Huawei Update Extractor (usage instructions in the forum) and flash with fastboot through an unlocked bootloader (HOW DO I DO THAT?)
If you have stock recovery you can extract the UPDATE.APP from the .zip and put that in a folder called "dload" in your phone's SD card. Now you can either:

NOTES:
By the way, you can try this method to get better ROMs on this phone. You can find ROMs for these devices that Huawei gives better updates to, and flash them with TWRP, but they may have stuff that doesn't work. E.g. CAM phones don't have NFC so you won't get NFC support with their ROM.

It's a typo. Anyhow the c432 refers to europe region i think. if your phone is not carrier locked you can install whatever region you want, not with the official method though, only fastboot or TWRP
I just hop in here to remind everyone that this ROM won't pass Safety Net at this time. You'll have to wait until it is releases officially. And that will be on the beginning of the next month.
Also: This is a leaked build, so it may not be final. Which means that this build may not include all security updates for August. Tbh I'm starting to think that this is all just fake news. The security patch from Google wasn't releases yet, it never is this early. Maybe Huawei is just making their customers think they got a supported device, but actually they are just changing one line in build.prop.

Google releases universal security patches, but NOT this early. If it is releases already, you should be able to find it on the internet.

The boot image is in the attached zip. I tried a ROM from the CAM-L21 phone, which gets EMUI 4.1 updates plus secutity patches. It's a good ROM but themes don't apply at all for some reason. Other than that it's fast and the small improvements of 4.1 are welcome

I think it is. But it wouldn't be the first time huawei doesn't stick to rules and laws. I just can't imagine that Google would release the security patch of August this early. There is still to much time until the month end and it gets released officially. There is still a lot of time for more exploits and whatever to show up. I don't think Google would do this.
Edit: I just did a little search, there was nothing on the internet. The latest is from July.

Any way to root at 7.0 ? [solution found]

As in the title. I have an EVA-L09 running android 7.0 .
I am about to unlock the bootloader but from what I gathered on the forums here, anyone who proceeds with rooting on 7.0 either simply fails to do so or is stuck in a boot loop.
So: has anyone rooted on 7.0 and how did you do it?
Big thanks
The more important thing is what is your build number. I know for b38x and higher you need a twrp with loop support and flash able SuperSU with loop support. I'll post links later on how to do this.
I do have my phone rooted on nougat by the way.

Steps

I have B366.. do you have some procedure working?
Inviato dal mio EVA-L09 utilizzando Tapatalk
Okay, so, after shoveling through a huge amount of threads and then managing to comprehend what they say (I assume English wasnt the authors native language) I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP and then Chainfire. Thanks to the corresponding posters anyway - I don't know if I would have been able to root properly without them.
I did NOT use the official versions of anything - neither SuperSU or TWRP:
Anyway, here are the threads I used:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/root-supersu-2-81-emui-5-t3612258 (for SuperSU, 1st link works for 386, I picked permissive SE for older builds go to the second link section)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/twrp-t3565703 (for TWRP, this seems to be specifically updated to work on all P9s)
I had no issues during the whole process. As for the bootloader code, I had to contact Huawei support as they give out the codes freely without any nonsense (just had to wait 1 working day).
Also - HRK tool as far as I could tell ISN'T recommended on newer builds. If you use it, you run a huge risk of soft bricking your phone - it uses outdated versions of everything and that's why it breaks peoples phones.

Got the code from Huawei support, you can email them and they're required to give you the code. Took a day to get it from support where I live but thats understandable as I contacted them at the end of a working day.
Can you (please, please) give me a full tutorial ?

How do I start my phone in fastboot?
I am kinda a noob when it comes to doing stuff manualy..

The UK version has android 8.1, 1gb of ram and a 5.3 inch screen.
All such tutorials that work for the US version DON'T work on the UK version and TWRP installation fails completely.
Please be mindful when advising users things "should" work, as it doesn't work and your device is completely different to mine, so should not be attempted from that link.

I made a TWRP for pettyl and it works 100% , The reason the others do not work is because they have EXT4 filesystem set to data partitions in the fstabs they were made with. Data partition is set to f2fs and thus it cannot be read. I also made a decrypt.zip for pettyl aswell, and I do not even own this device... I have only dove into android dev less than 2 months ago

lol to get stock recovery file all you have to do is fastboot boot TWRP or OrangeFox and make a backup of recovery. Its that simple, but what would anyone want with stock recovery anyway?
If you really want it you can get the full stock firmware here, extract it and you will have stock recovery.img along with stock boot.img and everything else....

If you had explained what's better or different about your recovery rather than making a mocking reply I would not have asked if another custom recovery was necessary......
There's currently two working TWRPs for PETTYL and another posted on here that doesn't work at all.
Every PETTYL user that's posted here has had issues with both TWRP versions or have been unable to follow the instructions on how to install either version.
Don't tell me this site and android modding isn't for me, because when the time is right I'll decide to stop, you will not make that decision or suggest I stop because you didn't like my question - which you didn't answer.
So I'll ask you calmly and politely again.
Is it really necessary to have so many different TWRPs and custom recovery for PETTYL?
What does your orange fox offer different to TWRP?
You haven't even posted a proper link......no explanation, no proceedures, no instructions. Nothing.
Explain yourself so people understand, don't mock.
Edit.
My question was not a criticism of what you have done.
I've stopped any further modifications to my own PETTYL because it's obvious a 1gb ram android go device cannot handle 9.0 pie and in the 10 years I've been modding various devices the E5 play is the most complicated piece of S*** I've I've used.
But even worse, if the user base cannot ask a simple question of people without someone like you being rude and sarcastic in reply and telling a fellow user to go away - then I've made the right decision not to work with my E5 or this thread any longer.
The user and support base for the E5 play PETTYL has suddenly hit an all time low, and doesn't need rudeness or your sarcasm to justify its existence..

He explained y other recoveries had prob and y his wouldn't next it has added features such as built in magisk and etc. test it to see other extra features instead of being a lil upset and taking it out on ppl being nice and fixing ur recovery probs
bubba1601 said:

Don't be a d*$k lashing out at a dev who does this work FOR free using up HIS free time to make it possible for you to make this complaint. We developers have to research to gain this knowledge. Be courteous and try to search the web to find the answers you seek and to fill in the blanks. Possibly guide others users in the right direction based on the knowledge you discover.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Listen to some nine inch nails, you might learn a thing or two about how to properly human.
He doesn't even own that device yet goes out of his way to provide support for it just for ungrateful individuals such as yourself to lash out at him for not explaining things clearly enough. If you lack the knowledge to fill in the blanks that he may have missed, that just shows that you're at risk of bricking your device from lack of knowledge on the subject. It won't hurt you to do a bit of research for yourself.
Sincerely,
The guy helping to guide that developer you lashed out at to supporting 64bit for YOUR DEVICE.

[Unlock Bl] [TWRP] Guide To Unlock Bootloader Of Meizu Pro 7 (p25)

Note:- Credits To this guide goes to {Diablosss}
GUIDE FOR UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER OF MEIZU PRO 7
(Sorry for the inconvenience, but there are some issues in posting pictures. Therefore requesting you to please check the attached files for images)
This guide can also work with many other Meizu devices. Checked on 15, 16 all options (s, t, x) and on Pro7I post the archive and instructions in pictures.
Step 1: Download. Unpack. Run meizublunlocker.exe
meizublunlocker:-https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yEm_vZo4rsqEtii279AU6l1mBajiSPQ2
See Image 1 in Attachments.
Step 2:-We connect the phone to the computer in fastboot mode (hold down the Vol. Down and power buttons), click refresh. The program must identify the device.
See Image 2 in Attachments.
Step 3ress CheckBL to check bootloader status.
See Image 3 in Attachments.
Step 4:-Click the Create Request button. This will create a file with the end of req.dat in the folder with this program
We send it to the e-mail [email protected] and wait for the response file to unlock the bootloader.
(This takes usually 1 week to receive the unlocked file, but you can donate to get the file within 3 hours)
See Image 4 in Attachments.
Step 5:- After we received the unlock file with the end of res.dat, click UnlockBL and select the resulting file.
See Image 5 in Attachments.
If the file is correct then get this answer
See Image 6 in Attachments.
That's It. We successfully Unlocked the Bootloader.
Now the next thing is to install the TWRP in our Device. ( Further credits goes to{ sergpolov} )
Step 1: Download and install "adb_run"
adb run:-https://drive.google.com/open?id=1y4wdL53-P7mybKsj5XeimHRoMSpokMkQ
Step 2:- Download the required Files.
Stock Recovery Pro 7:-https://drive.google.com/open?id=1e2tRdqLi5jsT8J854RMcIA-jvZyR7xhT
Twrp Pro 7:-https://drive.google.com/open?id=1uYOT9HGractYuoJvRidgAgh8IBLhzFtu
Step 3:-We load the phone into fastboot mode, flash through the fastboot the recovery you need.
Launch the application shortcut
Step 4:-Click "3" - go to fastboot mode
See Image 7 in Attachments.
Step 5:-Click "3" - recovery
See Image 8 in Attachments.
Step 6:-Here we select the recovery file: - in the window that opens, we throw the file itself and close the window with the file and press any button.
See Image 9 in Attachments.
The process has begun.
See Image 10 in Attachments.
Step 7:- Choose "Y" and "Enter"
See Image 11 in Attachments.
The recovery firmware process is over!
Next Few Steps are Extremely Important , so follow with caution!Step 8:-Reboot into Recovery Mode(hold down "Power" and hold, as soon as the screen goes blank, hold down the second button "Volume +" - hold it until vibration and release "Power", and after it release the button "Volume +")
Step 9:-To disable encryption of the "Data" section (who installs TWRP), we immediately flash the zip archive - tool-root_unlock-Testing-Pro7.zip
(disables encryption of the "Data" section, disables Boot and Recovery checks, installs Magisk and disables system root) and reboot into the system.)
tool-root_unlock-Testing-Pro7.zip:-https://drive.google.com/open?id=1a3Gyyuoo2Jv3EN7EWPwj389tXorSwkxT
Attention ! When installing custom recovery (TWRP) on your device, for the full TWRP functionality, you should format the internal memory (Data section) of the device using TWRP itself, since the "Data" section on Meizu smartphones is encrypted, I highly recommend it before installing custom recovery , on creating backups using the internal Flyme firmware (after creating the backup, it is located in the "backup" folder of the internal drive), as well as copying all the necessary data from the phone’s internal memory to the computer!
NOTE:-No One shall be responsible to any damage ocurring to your device
Doubts and queries are welcomed .
Hi, but doesn't this only work on Qualcomm processors? How does it work on a Meizu Pro 7 which is a Mediatek? I tried it on my Meizu M5C and it doesn't work.

Yeah you r right and this guide is also taken from meizu 16th only, but this is tested now because qualcomm devices requires port_traces.txt and unlocked bl.bin files whereas for pro 7 we are using to res.dat which uses fastboot driven commands only.. Thats why it got successfull. I am also posting pictures for proof. (Shared by diabloss).

i know you have already tried this method with your device and it didnt worked. I am not sure that m5c will get another method in future or not. Bcoz we also got lucky with pro 7 that it got successful by the help of guide ported from Meizu 16TH a Qualcomm device.
its now per donation only.

i am not sure about this but yeah 5$ is not a big cost for this. Like sincerely there is no other verified method to work and unlocking bootloader gives u many advantages. You can have magisk now and various other thing . You can directly flash service firmware now by flash tool. Custom roms are also there. Like 5$ dollars for a mediatek device is reasonable.
In this TWRP, could we install anny official ROM (Global or Chinese) in it's standard form (update.zip)? Or some file modification in the zip archive is required?

Some users reported that they can directly install the official update zip. But i would recommend you to modify the updater script before flashing. You can request your firmware to make it TWRP flashable we can help you with this.

Well, it would be nice if some very talented enthusiast developer or team of devs would build a custom ROM based on Android 8 or higher (if it's possible, of course).
I saw there is single custom ROM, AOSP, but it's still based on Nougat, like stock Flyme. This makes it uninteresting for me, because it brings nothing new over already very-good-full-of-options Flyme ROM based on Android 7.0.
Maybe time will bring us custom ROMs based on a newer Android, at least Oreo.

theoretically its not possible to update android version.. Because we dont have the source code to develop a higher version kernel .. But still there is a hope to port a rom based on android 8 but cant sure for stability.

I remember that Lenovo P2 smarthone officially stopped at Android 7 but people could install different custom Oreo, Pie and Q ROMs. This means that Lenovo published the source code?

Lenovo P2 is a snapdragon device. The source code and device tree can be found easily. Unlike mediatek , snapdragon never hides such things that's why the development is high on SD devices. Mediatek released kernel sources till Helio p10 then never disclosed anything. For higher android version roms we have to port kernel to higher version. Meizu pro 7 is right now on 4.4.15 kernel ver. For higher version we need kernel of 4.4.15+. I hope i cleared your doubts.

So, it's all about the source code, kernel sources and so on.
From my point of view (and my knowledge), there are two major steps or two issues that need to be addressed to successfully develop ROMs and kernels for a phone:
1. As you said, the source code must be released publicly.
2. The bootloader must be unlocked (or easy to unlock), for all these mods and kernels to be installed through a custom recovery (IF a custom recovery is developed).
Please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm seeing these things from consumer/user point of view, not like a programmer/developer/coder).

forum.xda-developers.com
Below US snapdragon devices can be bootloader unlocked with above service as long as bootloader version meets below criteria. Bootloader version can be determined from the 5th character from the right on the baseband version or build number, in some cases from kernel version
Below Method is no longer supported if you choose to use the unstable method below you do so on your own
This method is brought to you entirely by @elliwigy He is the reason for this exploit and method.
With that being said, Extreme Syndicate Root is now available!
Before Starting This Process Get A USB2 Mini Hub You Are Most Likely Going Too Need It
EXTREME SYNDICATE ROOT METHOD
OEM Toggle Does Nothing On US Model Phones
This root method breaks things and most likely will not be able to be used as a daily driver
You can be on any version bootloader. This will update you to V9 bootloader
This method will work if you are on Android 10 or Android 9 Pie but will put you on Android 8 Oreo. There is no root for Android 10 or Android 9 Pie
You will not be able to use magisk
You will not be able to flash full custom rom like Lineage or any other AOSP roms however GSI system images can be used
You cannot flash custom boot images or recovery images such as regular TWRP
Odin does not work on some later computers with USB 3.1 chip controllers the only work around is using a USB 2.0 mini hub
It is your responsibility to make sure you can use adb properly
Root will break things such as safetynet so deal with it

Notes:
- Safestrap recovery is now available with working MTP while in Safestrap
- This does NOT trip KNOX so don't ask.
- Bootloader is of course still locked.
- This uses some partitions from combo firmware which means 80% battery.
- Each variant will have its own post in its own download section. Download the right stuff!
* Variants this should work on are: N960U/U1/W, G965U/U1/W, G960U/U1/W. If you do not have one of these variants then this forum is not for you!
- Initial files/method will leave you on Oreo stock root.
- It works on latest rev's from rev1 up to the most recent revs.
- As of the initial first release, all variants have an issue with MTP not working except while in Safestrap
- S9 and S9+ also might have some issues with the selfie cam.
- Note 9 @elliwigy
- S9+ @klabit87
- S9 @jrkruse

Anything here with a .7z extension will get unzipped before using
Anything here with a .zip extension will get flashed as a zip in safestrap
Anything here with a .tar or .md5 gets flashed in odin
Anything here with a .img extension gets flashed as image in safestrap
Downloads S9 Files:
Safestrap_S9_Cmd_Line.7z
Download S9+ Files:
Safestrap_S9_Plus_Cmd_Line.7z
Download Note9 Files: -- Only For Bit 8 Or Lower
Safestrap_N9_Cmd_Line_Bit8.7z
Instructions to Inject Safestrap:
1. Download and unzip Safestrap_S9__Cmd_Line.7z for your device
2. Plug phone into computer and run Safestrap.exe
3. Follow instructions on screen to enable USB Debugging
4. Then from there the process will be mostly automatic just follow prompts on screen
5. When done flashing BootSwap file you need to hold the buttons to boot to recovery but since we swapped boot and recovery images it will boot system.
Instructions For Flash Rom:
1. Download below files and copy files for rom to phone system img and vendor img and odm zip
Downloads S9 Files:
Stock_Rom_G960.7z
GSI_Rom_G960.7z
Download S9+ Files:
Stock_Rom_G965.7z
GSI_Rom_G965.7z
2. In safestrap flash system img then vendor img and odm zip .
3. Choose data wipe and advance and check data
4.. Now reboot system you will have to hold buttons to reboot to recovery until you see safestrap splash then click continue. You must do this on every reboot. If you do not it will reboot to stock recovery. If it reboots to stock recovery just reboot system and hold buttons to reboot to recovery again.
5. When rom is booted up your computer will not recognize the phone for mtp file transfer. Adb does still work so you can transfer stuff that way (you need to switch to ptp transfer method in the dropdown) or use USB adapter and use a thumb drive.
6. Biometrics do not work so don’t try to setup fingerprint or face recognition.
The GSI rom mtp works GSI rom is rooted already just flash phhsupersu.apk found in GSI_Rom zip
If using other GSI roms you have too choose A_Only ones and will probably need to flash the Sh_Remover.zip found in the GSI_Rom zip
ShoutOuts:

As of right now it's still detecting su binaries. So Samsung Pay probably may not work.
On my G965/U1 I do not even see a "/system/etc/init/init.lab.rc" file on my device, is this because I am updated to the latest Android 9 December 1st security patch?

Don't worry about it. It will work on it, it's been proven to work exactly on Android 9, Dec 2019 security patch.
Wow! that's exciting, I can't wait until this releases. Looks like I'm not updating my phone anymore until then. Especially exciting if it works on Android 9 December 2019 security patch
the question is how likely this will be patched in Samsung's next update and how much time this may cause them to delay their next security patch.
