[Android][UNSAMLOCK] Bootloader Unlock for Samsung US/Canada Devices
This thread is @svetius approved Important notice: Do not update to April 2023 security update (XXXXXXXXXXWCX) or later. Examples: G998USQS6EWCA, N986USQU4HWD1. Samsung has patched the bootloader unlock again on those updates. NOTE: The OneUI...
forum.xda-developers.com
Below US snapdragon devices can be bootloader unlocked with above service as long as bootloader version meets below criteria. Bootloader version can be determined from the 5th character from the right on the baseband version or build number, in some cases from kernel version
Below Method is no longer supported if you choose to use the unstable method below you do so on your own
This method is brought to you entirely by @elliwigy He is the reason for this exploit and method.
With that being said, Extreme Syndicate Root is now available!
Before Starting This Process Get A USB2 Mini Hub You Are Most Likely Going Too Need It
EXTREME SYNDICATE ROOT METHOD
OEM Toggle Does Nothing On US Model Phones
This root method breaks things and most likely will not be able to be used as a daily driver
You can be on any version bootloader. This will update you to V9 bootloader
This method will work if you are on Android 10 or Android 9 Pie but will put you on Android 8 Oreo. There is no root for Android 10 or Android 9 Pie
You will not be able to use magisk
You will not be able to flash full custom rom like Lineage or any other AOSP roms however GSI system images can be used
You cannot flash custom boot images or recovery images such as regular TWRP
Odin does not work on some later computers with USB 3.1 chip controllers the only work around is using a USB 2.0 mini hub
It is your responsibility to make sure you can use adb properly
Root will break things such as safetynet so deal with it
Disclaimer:
The Extreme Syndicate team and it's affiliates are not responsible for your actions or your device if any issues are to arise. You flash this and utilize these files at your own risk. You have been warned!
Notes:
- Safestrap recovery is now available with working MTP while in Safestrap
- This does NOT trip KNOX so don't ask.
- Bootloader is of course still locked.
- This uses some partitions from combo firmware which means 80% battery.
- Each variant will have its own post in its own download section. Download the right stuff!
* Variants this should work on are: N960U/U1/W, G965U/U1/W, G960U/U1/W. If you do not have one of these variants then this forum is not for you!
- Initial files/method will leave you on Oreo stock root.
- It works on latest rev's from rev1 up to the most recent revs.
- As of the initial first release, all variants have an issue with MTP not working except while in Safestrap
- S9 and S9+ also might have some issues with the selfie cam.
- Note 9 @elliwigy

Anything here with a .7z extension will get unzipped before using
Anything here with a .zip extension will get flashed as a zip in safestrap
Anything here with a .tar or .md5 gets flashed in odin
Anything here with a .img extension gets flashed as image in safestrap
Downloads S9 Files:
Safestrap_S9_Cmd_Line.7z
Download S9+ Files:
Safestrap_S9_Plus_Cmd_Line.7z
Download Note9 Files: -- Only For Bit 8 Or Lower
Safestrap_N9_Cmd_Line_Bit8.7z
Instructions to Inject Safestrap:
1. Download and unzip Safestrap_S9__Cmd_Line.7z for your device
2. Plug phone into computer and run Safestrap.exe
3. Follow instructions on screen to enable USB Debugging
4. Then from there the process will be mostly automatic just follow prompts on screen
5. When done flashing BootSwap file you need to hold the buttons to boot to recovery but since we swapped boot and recovery images it will boot system.
Instructions For Flash Rom:
1. Download below files and copy files for rom to phone system img and vendor img and odm zip
Downloads S9 Files:
Stock_Rom_G960.7z
GSI_Rom_G960.7z
Download S9+ Files:
Stock_Rom_G965.7z
GSI_Rom_G965.7z
2. In safestrap flash system img then vendor img and odm zip .
3. Choose data wipe and advance and check data
4.. Now reboot system you will have to hold buttons to reboot to recovery until you see safestrap splash then click continue. You must do this on every reboot. If you do not it will reboot to stock recovery. If it reboots to stock recovery just reboot system and hold buttons to reboot to recovery again.
5. When rom is booted up your computer will not recognize the phone for mtp file transfer. Adb does still work so you can transfer stuff that way (you need to switch to ptp transfer method in the dropdown) or use USB adapter and use a thumb drive.
6. Biometrics do not work so don’t try to setup fingerprint or face recognition.
The GSI rom mtp works GSI rom is rooted already just flash phhsupersu.apk found in GSI_Rom zip
If using other GSI roms you have too choose A_Only ones and will probably need to flash the Sh_Remover.zip found in the GSI_Rom zip

As of right now it's still detecting su binaries. So Samsung Pay probably may not work.

On my G965/U1 I do not even see a "/system/etc/init/init.lab.rc" file on my device, is this because I am updated to the latest Android 9 December 1st security patch?

Don't worry about it. It will work on it, it's been proven to work exactly on Android 9, Dec 2019 security patch.

Wow! that's exciting, I can't wait until this releases. Looks like I'm not updating my phone anymore until then. Especially exciting if it works on Android 9 December 2019 security patch

the question is how likely this will be patched in Samsung's next update and how much time this may cause them to delay their next security patch.

Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing community here, starting from the ever so patient moderators, up to the brave people who let me experiment on their machines to get the OTA links during this beta program (both S9, S9+ and even Note 9). A very special thanks goes out of course to the great @Wishmasterflo who was the first one to let me mess around with multiple computers he owns until we got it just right and established a certain solution to give you guys all the updates almost instantly. Kudos to him, and to all you who in the course of the last few months came here to help out other people!
We may convert this thread to a general S9 Pie discussion if it's okay with the mods, now that the beta is over.
Thank you all, and enjoy the great update Samsung blessed us with this Christmas!

Instructions:
SD card method
Download the necessary update.zip(s) for your device according to your current software version.
Step 1
Copy the update.zip file to your SD card.
Step 2
Reboot the device into Recovery mode. (Turn off the phone, then Vol Up + Bixby + Power button)
Step 3
Go to apply update from SD card.
Step 4
Install the update, and be patient.
Many people have reported that on ZRKA, they're unable to apply new updates from SD because of SD card mounting errors.
First try formatting your card on your phone, and try again. If that fails, use adb sideloading.
Edit: The most effective way I came across for this issue is to actually use a PC (or a phone utility) to format the SD Card with FAT32, then try the update.
ADB Sideloading
Download the necessary update.zip(s) for your device according to your current software version.
Step 1
Download the latest ADB ZIP file (Windows), then extract it to C:\adb
Step 2
Download and install adb drivers.
Step 3
Copy the update.zip file to C:\adb (or wherever your adb.exe file is)
Step 4
Put your phone in recovery mode and select Apply update from ADB, then connect it to your PC
Step 5
Wait until your PC installs the drivers, if you're doing this for the first time.
Step 6
Open command prompt, navigate to C:\adb (or wherever your adb.exe and update.zip is)
Step 7
Issue the following command: adb devices
If you can see a device in 'sideload' mode, you can proceed to step 8, otherwise you may have some troubleshooting to do.
Step 8
Issue the following command: adb sideload update.zip
Step 9
Be patient, and enjoy your update.
NOTE: You can't go directly from BRJ6 to the latest update, you have to start with ZRKA and apply them one by one.
IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO PERFORM A FACTORY RESET IF YOU'RE UPDATING FROM BRJ6 (Basically after a main system version upgrade). Otherwise its not necessary, but for
the most optimal performance and battery life, it is advised.

I write with the chat from Samsung and they only write that they have no informations :highfive:
The beta came to me a few minutes ago and is installing now. Funny I didn't sign up for it until about an hour ago This is on the US Snapdragon.
Can someone try installing the latest version of Samsung members and giving it a go?

You still won't be able to do OTA, because Knox is tripped. But you could flash it, when it becomes available to download.

[TOOL] KnoxPatcher - use Secure Folder after root

I have finally figured out a way to use Secure Folder with a rooted / knox tripped phone!
So far this is WIP, but I have tested it to work on an SM-G960F running April 2019 rom.
You will need a GNU/Linux machine to patch your system, but a flashable zip is coming soon.
Instructions (note these are github links, I can't post actual links):
Get the tool at nm111/knoxpatch2
Install dexpatcher. You can use DexPatcher/dexpatcher-gradle-tools
Install vdexExtractor and compact_dex_converter (both can be found at anestisb/vdexExtractor)
Run ./pull_files.sh
Run ./patch.sh
Copy out/services.jar back onto the device.
Edit build.prop and remove ro.config.iccc_version.
Now secure folder will work.
Proof coming soon.
You would be our hero if you can complete this project
I have done some research, and I think it is unlikely that a flashable zip would work, unless someone could get compact_dex_converter running in TWRP (it just segfaults). I added some more scripts to download and deodex services.jar. Also I have uploaded my own patched build PPR1.180610.011.G960FXXS3CSD1 services.jar at drive[.]google[.]com/file/d/1AW7urpwMzjj3gorumsmfMeu6qh3cxD6J/view?usp=sharing. BTW, this works perfectly as far as I can see. Could someone try it out and post what happens?

In theory, it should work on oreo, but I haven't tried it. You need to patch yourself though.
Good news bro and good work, i wait the flashable Zip
Nice work hope we can get the flushable soon
Eagerly waiting. The only thing stopping me from rooting is Knox tripper!!! Don't want to lose my last 6 months of warranty.
By the way, Wil this be universal and not processor specific? Curious me!
Are other features like samsung pass / pay accessible with this patch ? Normally you also lose these with root

Samsung pass would probably never work as it checks the warranty status internally in the trustlet and just never allows storage of data if WB is blown. Samsung pay may work if I can bypass the signature check (I am working on it now).

You will still lose warranty if you root, this is just so you can use Knox apps.
It might work on other phones (i think that's what you mean), but I don't have any other phones so can't check.
Will test this on my N9 and I will report back

Update:
I have created a better version which bypasses all integrity checks but SPAY and SPASS still do not work due to them using their own trustlets. Also it is highly insecure as it forces all signature checks to return true. If I get DexPatcher to work on this then I will fix the signatures (or make an xposed module?) but if not I will release this later.
A zip will 100% not work. I have tried for ages and no luck. This is because the Samsung libraries are not loaded when in recovery so the patcher and deodexer do not work. The likely result will be a Magisk module or app which does the patching.
I am still working on this so please wait!

Great,, is there Rom for S9?

[ROOT] [Extreme Syndicate] [G965U/U1]

This method is brought to you entirely by @elliwigy He is the reason for this exploit and method.
With that being said, Extreme Syndicate Root is now available!

Disclaimer:
The Extreme Syndicate team and it's affiliates are not responsible for your actions or your device if any issues are to arise. You flash this and utilize these files at your own risk. You have been warned!
The Adventure!:
I will not get into any technical details here. Just know that this method has taken me ~1 year from start to finish. I also went through a number of devices during this time (at least 7 devices), even sold my original N9 then somehow ended up with another one before this root method was found. Some of us devs might be a bit burnt out so don't get upset if we are not in here all day every day answering everyones questions. We hope users will help eachother, that is what XDA is all about! Also, if you want more real time conversation/support then please join our Telegram group (link posted below) as this is easier for us to moderate and allows discussion to be had in real time. I don't always check XDA messages or PM's as it can be a lot and very tiresome so your best bet is Telegram!
Also, donations/money is not expected or required but if you feel obliged to share what you can then that would be greatly appreciated! Donations keep me on the grind and sometimes can even help me in acquiring other devices to work on. I had issues with Paypal a while back (SamPWND days) and do not have a Paypal account. I do however have a Venmo and Transferwise accounts that work in most situations.
Venmo - http://www.venmo.com/Thomas-Huntington-10
Transferwise - PM @elliwigy for info to donate using Transferwise.
Now Let's get into the files/method!
Notes:
- This does NOT trip KNOX so don't ask.
- Bootloader is of course still locked.
- This uses some partitions from combo firmware which means 80% battery.
- Each variant will have its own post in its own section. N9 in N9 section, S9 in S9 section, S9+ in S9+ section.. Make sure youre in the right one!
* Variants this should work on are: N960U/U1/W, G965U/U1/W, G960U/U1/W. If you do not have one of these variants then this forum is not for you!
- Initial files/method will leave you on Oreo stock root.
* Some users were successful in running Pie GSI but the initial posts will not include this. Others will do this and maybe down the road threads will be updated.
- It works on latest rev's from rev1 up to the most recent revs.
- As of the initial first release, all variants have an issue with MTP not working, we are working on it however.
- S9 and S9+ also might have some issues with the selfie cam. Also being looked into.
- There will be 3 threads created as this method works on 3 different variants. These groups will be facilitated by the following:
- Note 9 @elliwigy
- S9+ @klabit87
- S9 @jrkruse
- Telegram Support Group for All 3: https://t.me/joinchat/DxwvAlhtzHjg4EI9973BGQ
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Downloads: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261711769
2. In odin folder flash the combo firmware
3. Once combo is booted up run the root bat. When done phone will reboot to download.
4. In odin flash the bootswap.tar.md5 file. What this does is swaps the boot and recovery images which allows system to be mounted rw.
5. Now when done flashing you need to hold the buttons to boot to recovery but since we swapped boot and recovery images it will boot system.
6. Now put your phone in airplane mode. This must be done whenever using Flashfire. Copy the system.img, vendor.img, and ODM zip files to your phone.
7. In Flashfire, choose zip and select the odm zip. Then choose firmware and choose the system.img and the vendor.img. Then choose data wipe and wipe user and system data (the default choices). Make sure inject super su is NOT enabled. Disable it. Do not let flashfire inject root!!
8.. Now click flash. When finished you will have to hold buttons to reboot to recovery until you see boot animation. You must do this on every reboot. If you do not it will reboot to stock recovery. If it reboots to stock recovery just reboot system and hold buttons to reboot to recovery again.
9. When rom is booted up your computer will not recognize the phone for mtp file transfer. Adb does still work so you can transfer stuff that way (you need to switch to ptp transfer method in the dropdown) or use USB adapter and use a thumb drive.
10. Biometrics do not work so don’t try to setup fingerprint or face recognition.
Some GSI may work. YMMV

So should we refer to the s9 forum for this method or will a new post be made?
Link's broken.
Are there instructions that are broken down a little more for each step? Possibly a video? I am very excited to finally root my SM-G965U but i don't want to brick my phone doing the wrong step. I'm not familiar with the new Odin setup.
Thank you in advance.

- Telegram Support Group for All 3: https://t.me/joinchat/DxwvAlhtzHjg4EI9973BGQ

how to root , flash custom recovery and custom ROM on galaxy S10 5G (G977N)

Hello folks !
I just bought a galaxy S10 5G G977N and I found it difficult to work my way through all the changes made in rooting/custom roming smartphones (I had a galaxy S7 before that, it was pretty easy).
What I read for now :
How to root with magisk : https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root
How to install TWRP : https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys105G.html
What I learned :
Rooting device is far more complicated than it was before. If I do so, I won't be able to update stock rom OTA, I'll have to reflash a patched recovery (AP file) for every update. This bothers me because its not convenient, and because messing with odin is way riskier than flashing zip from custom recovery and may brick my phone, so the less I use it, the better I think.
Plus, booting the phone will be a pain in the ass, having to do the right key combination
Installing TWRP will not change that.
What I'm wondering :
I'm a bit confused on how I will be able to update stock ROM (The way I understand it, I'll have to reinstall TWRP after each update)
And I'm even more confused about how all of this will work with custom ROMs.
Let's say I root my phone and install TWRP. If I want a custom ROM and keep it rooted, how will it work ? I'll have to unzip the ROM, patch the AP file with magisk, rezip it, flash it with twrp and voilà ? And I'll have the same key combination issue where I'll have to boot a certain way to access the rooted ROM, and if I don't, I'll boot on an unrooted ROM ?
Thank you a lot for helping. I'm really used to rooted and unbloated ROM (God I've forgotten how bloated stock ROMs are !) but the complexity of the operation stops me for now. I don't want to brick my phone and I'm not sure I'll have the courage to do all of this every 3 month for each update.
Hello!
This thread is a bit old. But since I had to dig the forum to find what I was looking for (and update my knowledge), maybe my answer will be useful for somebody else.

I agree! Thankfully, somebody smarter than me took care of that. You can thank ianmacd for his multidisabler (GitHub project's page; xda thread).
One of its functionality is to disable "Stock recovery auto-restoration".
If you want to see a guide for how to use it (for S10 5G Snapdragon only, but same principle apply for the others), afaneh92 wrote one! Same thing by corsicanu, but with official links to download TWRP (and his repository for the other stuff), and it works with other versions of the S10 too. corsicanu got his tools here if needed.
Be careful, you must format /data after disabling encryption with multidisabler. Back up your data first!

No OTA if you root.
You can still upgrade the stock kernel/firmware to a newer Android version manually. Afterwards, flash TWRP, then flash multidisabler again, then run multidisabler in terminal. And, all good!
(Reflashing stock firmware disables "multidisabler")
Check for firmware updates on Samsung's changelog page.
Replace your S10 model number and CSC code in the link below:
doc.samsungmobile.com/YourModelNumber/YourCscCode/doc.html
To know which CSC you have:
Go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Service provider software version
The last line should show the current CSC (three characters), e.g. mine is KTC for Korean KTC devices.
doc.samsungmobile.com/sm-g977b/ftm/doc.html
corsicanu makes it easier for us, here is his github page for the S10.

To flash the ROM the first time:
Flash the ROM with TWRP (adb sideload), Format data/factory reset. Formating everything will reenable encryption if you had multidisabler installed first. I think. So I guess flash it afterwards, and format data again?
For example, you can follow Lineage OS's guide. But they don't take care of vbmeta, encryption, and other issues. I'm not sure why.
To update the ROM, it's easier: no need to reinstall multidisabler after a dirty flash. (Lineage guide to update their ROM)
I'm dropping some links you might need:
To download the last version of Odin (odin3-v3-14-1_3b_patched-zip as of date): realbbb's XDA thread.
All the versions of TWRP for the beyondx (G977B and N, maybe other letters too )
Ok. That's all for now. Good luck!

Good source for firmwares?

I'm looking for a good source of firmwares, i know the famous sites but some firmwares doesn't seem to be listed. I know in the time os Samsung KIES there were tools which communicated directly with samsung.
For example these firmware builds for the SM-G975Ux aren't listed on most firmware sites but have the December secutiry update with binary/bootloader version 8: G975USQS8IVL1 and G975USQS8IVL2
All the big sites have ROMs for that phone (same one I have). There is no "Ux" model... it's *U or *U1, with the latter being unlocked. IF you search for U1 ROMs you have many selections, but most get the XAA version which will usually change carriers automatically based on the SIM card.
The latest BL=8 version I see there is https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...M-G975U1/XAA/download/G975U1UEU8IWB6/1741280/ which is the February 2023 security update. I believe this is the last one we are getting (but I could be mistaken as there may be 1 more security patch, I don't remember).
There's U U1 0 W F N .... I'm looking for the oldest firmware with binary version 8, but it seems the sites don't show all firmwares available.... i'm looking for the oldest firmware with U8 bootloader (or any compatible bootloader with binary 8 version), i could have a look at all sites and try my luck... but they don't seem to have all data. but like i said i prefer some original source xml files... i saw some url's to original samsung servers but can't find them anymore.
There is already a firmware available with the march update.... but you have to be lucky to find them... i'm looking for original sources. like update.zip's and such
Found the first one....

Maybe flash lineageos to see if everything works.... and then revert to original software. Be sure to wipe cache/dalvik and userdata

Yes, I know there are many other variant firmwares out there, but for a U phone (snapdragon) there is really only U and U1... the rest are incompatible.
There is no "older" firmware with binary 8, because the firmwares are packaged with the proper/compatible binary already. Basically, the "binary" is the bootloader version. On Snapdragon phones, you must have the proper BL/binary to flash, as you already know. You can't interchange the binary/BL with the ROM and security updates because they are not made that way.
The update.zip you're looking for are updates sent by Samsung directly, and they can update the ROM (and Binary) from one stock version to another... but, again, they will update both the binary/BL as well as the ROM, so they can't be broken up to only do one or the other.
It sounds like you're trying to get to an older ROM version (for whatever reason) with an older security patch level as well? Basically, this cannot be done on Snapdragon phones. Once you're on an updated binary/BL, you're stuck there (at least today you are).

I solved the problem! I had unlocked the bootloader, but I also had to deactivate verity via CMD with twrp+adb "adb disable-verity"
ok i've solved the problem now, but does anyone know why i couldn't even start the original stock roms? Actually, the stock ROM should set everything to factory settings...

I've tried different firmwares, its all about snapdragon. You can also flash SM-G975W parts and other snapdragon variants.... there's a lot of variants out there.
I first upgraded and then downgraded to the parts i wanted and am on a rom now with security patch level December 2022, as long as the binary version is the same there's no problem. I've got the latest modem installed and the oldest firmare and bootloader for the latest binary version, i can upgrade or downgrade my bootloader. I already asked someone before if this was possible and if he could confirm because before i was only able to flash CSC and AP i think.
If there's no updates comming anymore why not downgrade and wait for a new leak
I'm also sure we can unlock the bootloader, i'm trying to make an lposed module. I've installed lspatch and lposed and they work fine for some modules. The bootloader unlock has several prerequisites (properties and such) if i can make it look for other properties or something like that we might get an unlock option. Also it looks for an encrypted file on EFS, if someone with an unlocked samsung phone could copy that file we would be a lot further.
It's called /efs/sec_efs/sktdm_mem/encmembership.txt and should be an encrypted file, also if anyone knows how to set ro properties without root (like a stub before the preference controller starts) this would be very usefull.
