Note 9 Green Polka Dot "Burn in?" - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

My phone is less that 3 months old. I take care of it religiously. My display turns off after 30 sec, and I dont use auto brightness. It's never at max and I don't leave my screen still for extended periods of time.
Noticed this green discoloration on my screen a few days ago. Now it's all I see. Gives white pages a greenish tint and can be seen better on certain colors.
Very annoying to have on a $1000 brand new device.
Has anyone else noticed this on their devices?? Never had this happen on any of my previous 4 Samsung phones.
Edit - Found out it's called a "screen uniformity" problem.

That is odd. Have you tried a factory reset to see if that helps at all? Does seem like a burn in issue. If all else fails you have a 1 year warranty to get you a replacement.

I have tried a factory reset. Did a little bit of research and found it it's a "screen uniformity" problem.
Seen a few threads of people seeing this under uv light and it is the glue that holds the glass on.
I'm thinking the glue didnt properly cure on my device and is now showing through. I'm sending my device in to get repaired. I hope it gets fixed the first time. Seen people say it came back again and again.

Try using this app from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oledtools

See this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/how-to/screen-burn-check-thread-t3851263/
Unfortunately it sounds like you'll need to get it repaired
In the market for a Note 9, but seeing these reports popping up makes me wonder if I should wait for the 10.

This screen is defective and for a replacement.

Gently apply some heat with a hairdryer while pressing down with a credit card wrapped in a soft cloth.

Lol I'm not going to microwave my $1000 device that is under warranty.
Also if I am not satisfied with the repair then I will send it back. If that keeps happening i will demand a new phone or a refund.
Either way I'm getting it fixed right lol

I had the same issue on mine. Did a chat with Samsung, they gave me a case number and told me to contact a repair center. I went to Best Buy, they ordered a screen and had it repaired today. Definitely much better. Hopefully it stays that way.

Agreed because next time I'll have to send it off most likely. Best buy told me if the issue happened again I'd probably have to get Samsung to do the repair.

Ah crap. Black dots under screen.

Didn't notice it until I turned up the brightness (I just bragged about having a flawless device less than a minute ago) and I noticed dark spots in the screen.
I'm going to call them up and see what they say. Sucks. It doesn't look like much, but it's very obvious when scrolling since it doesn't move with the rest of the screen. Only the circled area is affected. It looks like a dead pixel at first, but it's much bigger and has a "blur" around it.
Pics?

I'm on hold waiting for them to answer, I'll post a pic of it in a few minutes. It's right in the middle of the screen too.
added pic. It's much bigger than the picture lets on, and has a liquid looking blur around it.
No black dots on mine. 16GB received today. Strangely enough, mine had no plastic covering on the bezel, while my friend's 8GB model did (4 small strips, one for each side).

Mine didn't have them either. I was wondering about that when I opened it.
I've been on hold for 30 minutes already.
Got the RMA, I get to keep my phone until the new one arrives, so I am happy. Turnaround should be less than a week to receive the replacement. I wonder if it's going to be backordered...lol

Through Google directly. They are handling the devices themselves for the time being. Not like with the SGN and Nexus 7 devices, where you had to go through Samsung or Asus directly.
Google is probably handling RMA's for now, but later on it will be handed over to LG With crappy support, and they will ask you to pay shipping.
I thought RMA's for Nexus devices were always done by Google?

The RMA process with Google is very good. I had to send two Nexus 7s back and it was an easy process. The only issue I had was that I didn't receive a TNT shipping label with my first replacement so I actually had 3 devices for 2 days while I waited for the shipping label.

Damn. I got the shipping labels before I even hung up. He said it would take up to a day, and it had me slightly worried...lol At least I have a phone I can beat the hell up with no regrets. Only thing that sucks is that I need to leave the phone stock for now.

Exact opposite
You need to return it in "good" condition (scratches are fine, but no cracks). Software wise, mess with it all you want, then
Code:
fastboot -w update "Devices Image from Google"
fastboot oem lock

I don't mean to be an ass but Google better get all those backordered phones out to us before sending out your (or anyone else's) RMA'd phones.
What about the much bigger blurry spot to the right of your circle? Closer to the right edge of the picture. That looks considerably worse to me.

Loose earpiece grill

The ear piece grill on mine is loose. Checked my note 3 and it's not the same. Check yours just in case. I may sound a bit picky but I just spent $749 + tax on this. Gonna get it exchanged.

the one on my Note 2 kinda does that. but i never noticed until now until you brought it up. hmm...guess it didn't bother me or it didn't really cause a problem.

Yes you do have to send it back but after you get the replacement. I've done exchanges with them before. They've sent me a replacement but they have to put a charge on the account. If the defective one doesn't come back then they don't remove the charge.

man... to be honest... I completely understand your felling and frustration... even a small imperfection like this can make me crazy too. In my case I always inspect the screen looking for dead pixels (I usually install dead pixels app from the store)... and I have returned many phones because of this. (Including Note 3) In other words... like you mentioned... is your money, and if you are not 100% happy... return it... better live a week or 2 without the Note 4 than a year or more with the problem in your mind every single day...

Just checked my white note 4. The speaker on mine is fine. I'd return it if I were you.
It looks like assembly problem. It appears that your speakers grill sits on top of foam gasket (this would be a reason why it springs back).

That sucks and I still don't get why online and their stores are separate. One thing I liked about AT&T is being able to return to store even if I ordered online.

Thanks guys. Glad to know it's not on all of them. I don't mind waiting a few days for a replacement. I'm on the phone with them now. But ya, I also hate that I have call if I bought online. And if I buy at a store, it has to be the same type store, meaning if I bought at a corporate store, I have to go another corporate store.
UPDATE: Ok they had to reorder me a new phone (black). It wasn't out of stock so they are going to ship it to me overnight at no charge and will get it on Wednesday. As usual, they are charging me for the new one and will refund the charges on the 1st phone when they receive it back.

Was happy that I finally got my phone in, untill I powered it up and notice there is a yellow tint band right in the middle of the screen vertically.. I was hoping this wouldnt happen because with my luck I always get a phone with an issue like that.

OnePlus offers a 15 day no questions asked, hassle free, full refund on their phones (and accesories that have not been opened). You only pay for shipping after filing for an RMA ticket with their customer service.
It takes a couple of weeks to get the refund, but you'll get it as long as it passes inspection from any of their authorized service centers that your phone ends up in.
Hope this helps.

That was not my point,i know what the cause is, I had it on my one plus one, and oneplus 3. But you were talking about a screenshot, a screenshot will be 100% perfect, even when the screen is completely broken, you have to take a picture of the screen with another camera. A display tester app won't work either. It's all theoretical info.
OP, thanks for pointing out. I made my decision to not buy this phone if they still can't manage to do it right.

S-pen issues

Hello,
I have been noticing that my s-pen sticks/freezes sometimes. Hard to explain, but im going to try. Lets say I am swiping to type a message, once i take the s-pen off the screen, it continues to swipe the keyboard unless i move it even further from the phone. Same happens when i browse the web, sometimes the spen keeps scrolling the webpage even if i am not touching the screen but. I have air view option turned off.
has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks

Update, I sent the of time for you repairs to a Samsung facility in Texas. They did a good job not damaging the phone. So far everything works great, but I had the phone for less than 24hrs. I'll update the thread in a few days
Any update? I also sent my phone in for repair of a similar issue and when I got it back, it seems like nothing was fixed. Samsung wrote that they "replaced cosmetic" whatever that means?
So far my phone seems to be working just fine. Samsung replaced the screen and the s pen. I also wrote a note with a link to a video of the issue when I sent in the phone
started doing the same thing a few months ago. Initially if happened every few weeks but became more common as time passed. Finally sent the phone to Samsung again. Received an email from them today with findings.
Problem found:
AUTO REBOOT ON POWER OFF
Solution:
REPLACED PBA
So looks like they replaced the motherboard or components of it.

If you're still within the one year warranty, complain to samaung through "Samsung +" app and don't mention anything about burn in. Just say my screen doesnt look right. If you're out of the warranty then you're SOL.

I had the same issue a month ago. Samsung won't replace it but they will change the screen. They did that for me, but the issue is coming back again. People need to reach out to Samsung and bring this issue to light. Too many units are doing this now but not enough people are speaking up.
Check out the Note 9 screen burn in thread and you'll see other users, including myself, who have pics posted of the same issue.
Sorry about your phone... Reach out to Samsung asap and make sure to send them picture evidence of your issue when you send in your phone. The more people to complain, the more likely Samsung will probably decide to replace these defective units.

That close? That shouldn't happen. I'd definitely get a factory replacement from Samsung. I doubt that your carrier would return it because it's been a while.

Yeah, that's not even two months. Burn ins will never happen in two months unless you make them happen on purpose. Just contact Samsung. They will replace it. They have an app called samaung +. Use it. They're very helpful.

yeah i mean i use it daily and average about 2-3 hours of screen on time and nothing intensive or static images that would cause burn in. Do i just return for refund and buy a new phone or try a new note 9 again? I mean is this going to happen in a month or two again??

Talk to a rep on the app. They're very good. I'd get a new one for a replacement from them. Make sure it's not a refurb. O doubt they'd give you a refund. Burn ins dont happen that soon. You literally need at least two years of the same screen layout and same things done everyday. I've been using oleds since Samsung released them on their first note and I've never had any burn in. And yours actually doesnt even look like a burn in to be honest. It looks a screen uniformity issue.

Your phone has a screen problem, not a burn in. Burn ins are shadows of things you have on your home screen, like your status bar and icons. This is nothing like that. This is an issue with your screen and they'll give you a replacement. Just make sure to present your proof of purchase such as your receipt and all that jazz and you'll be fine.

I agree that it is a screen uniformity issue or something odd. I have every note since the note 2 and never seen this and all of those were used a year and never had a problem. My nav bar isn't "burnt in" which is weird because it is always up and dark
and i have been talking to a rep on samsung+ and sending photos and troubleshooting for him, seems very nice and helpful so far

Good. They'll take care of you I'm sure. The only thing you might worry about is having another phone because they might have you send this one in. Hope all goes well for ya.

I'd argue with them and ask to speak to a manager or a supervisor. This phone is only two months old. I mean, if anything just take the screen replacement honestly. They will only send you to a Samsung authorized repair shop

It's basically going to be a new phone. They will keep the mother board and camera from the old phone and put it in a new body.
So new body and new battery.
At least that is how they handled every report of burn in on the Note 8.
If they send you to a UBreakIFix it is about a two hour turn around..

and then waterproofing may be compromised as well. Then i can't sell for anything good because it has had the screen replaced. Yes it was a UBREAKIFIXIT location.

Nope water resistance isn't compromised.
That's UbreakIFix's statement. Its as water resistant as a new one out of the box.. That's part of why they dont just replace the screen.
