Apps not installing - N950F - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I updated to Android Pie via OTA a few weeks ago and since then my phone in not able to install apps in any way, tried Play Store, Galaxy Store and ADB and nothing works, they always get stuck at the installation part.
What's interesting though is that if I go into secure folder and try to install from there, it actually works so I have no idea what is happening.
I cannot factory reset as I'm on a trip and I need the settings on my phone to be working fine.
Any ideas?

Try wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode. That should fix your OS issue.

Already did, does not work at all..
I was thinking about installing the indian update for the March security patch maybe that would help. I'm in a COO CSC is there a problem with that?

In that case back up all the data stored on your device and perform a hard factory reset.

As I said I cannot do that.. Isn't there a way to troubleshoot this without factory resetting?

4: or Do a factory reset!

Problems with Google Play Store

Hey guys,
The other day I flashed an experimental CM10.1 nightly along with the most recent stable gapps for 10.1. Everything seems to be working OK, but the Play Store doesn't load at all. I've tried various things, including different WiFi networks, but nothing works. I can load web pages in both Chrome and the stock browser, so I think it's a gapps problem.
Any ideas? Does anyone know which gapps I should flash?

What exactly happens? Does Google Play open at all?
You can try flashing: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip. Make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache beforehand in recovery.
If that doesn't work, try heading to Settings>Apps>Google Play Services>Uninstall Updates, and Settings>Apps>Google Play Store>Uninstall Updates.
Good luck.

Yes, it opens, but immediately says "No Connection."

That's the zip I used originally. I didn't wipe the caches the first time, so I guess I'll try reflashing it.

I'll do that and post back with the results. Thanks for the help.

I was able to alleviate the no connection bug by flashing the gapps package posted above after clearing cache and dalvik cache.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I just cleared the caches and reflashed and it works perfectly.
Thanks again!

im getting problems connecting to servers on updates. clean wipe and rollbacks did nothing. working off the newest nightly released through goo. thinking i might have to do full wipe in order to restore, and not sure if that will even fix the problem. any tips?

first of all check your hosts file
At first I wasn't able to open the Play store at all. Reflashed with Gapps, cleared caches. Now I can open the store, but any time I try to update apps I get the error:
"Update for __________ could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0])"
Any ideas?
EDIT: removing my gmail account and then setting it up again along with clearing the data for google play and services seems to have done the trick.

[Q] I messed up my Google Play Services - need help

Hi there, I messed up a bit
Im on CM11 M11 Snapshot, Unlocked bootloader on my SP and I caused a problem with Google Play Services, I tried to integrate the updated APK into the system partition using Titanium Backup, it froze and couldn't finish the operation and now I cant seem to get onto the Play Store to update services. Ive tried clearing data/cache for Play Store, Services, and account manager, Ive tried removing my Google account and re-adding it (Didn't work at first, but now I'm signed in) and Ive tried removing those 3 apps and then re flashing the Gapps package but there is always an error with Google Play Services and it requires an update from Play Store but it cant connect to it because of the problem Ive created with Services.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I don't want to wipe my Data partition / do a factory reset as Ive spent the past week setting up the phone and getting all the apps back that I needed.
I have been in the same way, messed my gapps so bad that one day. The fix is easy. All you need to do is wipe the system, and then flash the gapps again. No need to wipe data.

Wait? What? Won't kill boot/bootloader/rom doing that?
However I've the same problem: play services (all google apps, drive, maps, youtube) stopped to work. They start but can't connect to google account.
So I tried clearing its data and cache, but nothing. I removed the account and now I can't create it anymore: it says there's a problem communicating with google servers.
Install apps from playstore site, gives a 906 error.

No, it wont kill the ROM. But beware, you will need to reflash the ROM zip and gapps.
I didn't mention it in the quoted post, but that guy understood me lel
Well, I was pretty sure. XD
I'll backup, install rom, gapps, reboot, rom update, reboot
I'm really start to hate the play services ahahah

[Q] I factory Reset and need some help

I previously rooted successfully based on the thread by TEKHD.
I had to factory reset afterwards and, since I have done that, the playstore fails to really work and download apps. It may download 1 and then stop and they are all just sitting in the queue....I have tried clearing cache/data on the playstore app and even removing my google account and then adding again. Anyone know what may be going on?
Also - does rooting disable system updates? I went to check if there were any updates and it said since I had a modified system it was a nogo - which I assume is fine.
Thanks!

I think all you need to do is to go into twrp recovery and to a factory reset.
After doing that the play store and everything else should work just find.
After the phone reboots and goes to the home screen reboot it one more
time and then see if the play store works properly for you.

This is different than a factory reset from standard means in the phone itself?

yes, in the phone itself, be sure to copy any private stuff from internal
sdcard to external sdcard or to your computer.
The internal factory reset will format your internal sdcard but it will
not touch the external sdcard.
Good luck!

Google Play Services Stopped

Started getting a message "Unfortunately Google Play Services Has Stopped" on two Touchpads I run, rendering them virtually useless. Google Play Services ver 8.3.00 installed with Android 4.4.4. Cleared Cache, uninstalled/reinstalled Google Play Services with same results. Looking for ideas!

Raising the dead? Welcome to XDA.
Try rolling it back to the factory version.
Clear system cache.
When did it start doing this ie what changed to cause it? An update, a download?

See what apps are set as system administrators.
It could be a rootkit or virus causing it.

Try this - go to Settings / Apps, turn on "Show system processes", then under Google Play Services / Storage / Manage Space cleared all data. Now everything should work

I had the same issue and did figure out that play services needed clearing etc. however, after restarting the device the problem re-occurred. Ended up getting my device replaced - just checked and the new one has the same issue! I'm seriously thinking about getting rid now.

Strange, I've never ever had any issues after I did this cleaning, even after multiple restarts. Maybe you could try cleaning cache partitions from Recovery (shut the phone, then Power On + Volumw Up, there exist option for cache cleaning)

I had a thought.....I was on the beta programme for play services so I thought I would opt out of that and revert to standard. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. Sorry to bother you but could I ask what version of play services you have installed and also what firmware version you are on, please?

Yeah, could be a firmware problem but there's no update for my firmware either OTA or on firmware finder (there is an unapproved one, however). I have tried clearing the cache partition in recovery before but it's worth another go I guess.

Well, that didn't work! Guess I'll either have to wait for a firmware update, pay to use funkyhuawei, or send the damn thing back again.

Updated to .120a firmware Play Services 12.6.73 on a CLT-L29(C636) and all is good (also rooted with Magisk and TWRP install with safteynet passed)
Used firmware finder to get 120a (was not approved but downloaded it), renamed the files to match HuRupdate tool needs, moved a copy of twrp renamed as recovery.zip into the same folder, out to TWRP and flashed HrUpdater.zip.
Sat for a while on radio update, then ran througth the rest.
On reboot, cleared out Play Services cache and storage, and it works, rebooted several times and its still working
Note: The firmware is not officially approved yet on my device (IMEI check 'computer say no'), !!so at your own risk!! Read in other threads that people have done the same and its working now for them.
