MI 8 - GPS works in google maps but not in all the other apps as WAZE, GPS tool box.. - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone
I have in home 2 Xiaomi mi 8 with Global version MIUI 10.2.3.0 stable. Both have the same configs for locations, etc...
But in the phone of my wife the GPS is not working as expected. I can have it working in google maps and uber but not in all the other apps. I already check all the permissions, battery restrictions and nothing that can originate this problem.
Any idea how to fix?
Thanks
Joao

The only thing left for you to do is restore factory.

Already did !

When this happens to me, i just need to reboot phone. But it wont reboot it stuck on shutdown. Force restart helps (hold powerbutton for 10 seconds)

gps issues

Looking around is there a GPS problem with the mi 8
Nope.
There was a permission related google maps issue. Workarounds were either uninstalling google maps updates / installing an old version via apk or revoking google location access, and then starting google maps again and allowing location access again.
There is. I have issue with GPS. Not Google maps. No App that uses GPS is getting coordinates some time. And when that happens, compass is non functional. It is frozen on some angle, no matter what i do. Also gravity Sensor (for fliping screen, on YouTube for example) is non functional. And when i try to reboot phone freeze on Black screen and i must force reboot by holding powerbutton for 10 seconds.
Yeah that's not a general issue or known bug.... somethings wrong on your device.
But it is software Bug on mine device. Right after reboot everything works as expected. After some time (3 to 5 days) it goes bad. I have the phone for around one month. I didnt do any mods only updated everything to latest version. So i think it is bug.
Search around, there's a couple things you can try.
.) Edit/fix agps settings
.) Fix google maps through revoking google location access
.) if all else fails factory reset

It is very rare. First time i have noticed it when i started waze and for 5 minutes it doesnt showed movement and i was going 130km/h. After quick reboot with powerbutton hold sorted it. Then in 3 days i couldnt rotate YouTube video. And i had a little time so i looked it up, and compass showed 349 degrees no matter what direction phone was pointed. And i also checked GPS test App, and 0 satellites were available. That all was week ago. Now everything is working fine. And i also noticed one small problem. When phone switch from 4G of home provider to roaming 2g or 3g data wont work. I need to activate airplane mode for a while, then it register again in roaming network and it works fine.

Phone going to lock screen when lost signal

I recently bought an MI 9 Lite and I am experiencing a problem with the device daily.
Constantly while in use, the phone simply goes to the lock screen. It happens most of the time when I'm driving with Waze or Google Maps, but it also happened while I was typing a message on Whatsapp with the phone in my hand.
I identified that the situation is occurring when there is a carrier signal failure, but found no explicit setting in the phone menu to lock the screen when the network goes down.
This is hindering the use of the phone and I'm even not using it as a GPS. I've found other people reporting the same situation with this model, but none of them have found a solution yet (https://c.mi.com/thread-2741448-1-0.html).
My phone is running MIUI Global 11.3.4.
Same problem on my mi9 miui 11.0.6
Maybe this bug somehow connected with google smart lock. Cause before i was update my phone from miui 10 i had some problems between smart lock, and always on display. I checked a lot of forums, but noone have no idea why this bug happens. And only on mi9 and miui 11

I only saw that when you take out the SIM card, have you tried changing your sim card for a new one?
Hi Guys.
Since I've bought my Mi 9 Lite (nov 2019), I'm experiencing this issue. I tried to update (on 11.0.3.0 Android 10 now), but the only thing that changed is that I have the signal drop and the screen doesn't lock anymore. The signal drops in many situations, but it happens mostly when I try to call someone using whatsapp. I searched a lot, but couldn't find a solution. Someone can help me?
This is very annoying.

Redmi 9 - services has stopped & restarts

Hello, i have problem with Redmi 9 - android services (google, xiaomi panel etc.) has stopped & restarts phone - sometimes once a day, sometimes once an hour, it started a month ago. I tried install many firmwares and nothing. I send phone to repair and they said "phone is working okay" Do you have that problem with Redmi 9 Mediatek NFC? I don't know what can i do, it's very annoying, i have broken phone and can't do anything with this problem.
what did you do before the problem occur?
the stop working issue shows if you uninstalled some complicated apps.
like for example you forced stop/disabled the security center. some apps will show stop working if you did this and you will face the unexpected restart but you will not say that this is a bootloop.
some google apps also has a complicated issue. if you uninstalled connected apps from google you will face the same problem.

Question How bad is your Chinese ROM ?

Cuz mine sucks big time!
It is the worst android experience I have ever had. It's so bad that is ruining my MI11 overall experience.
Few more days untill unlock and I will wait for Global rom because I had Redmi K20 and EU rom was a bit bugy. Also important to know is that it must be flashed over original Chinese rom. If you flash EU rom on Chinese and than Global rom on EU from my experience it will make some bugs and wont work properly.
So needed to stick with this disaster really bad Chinese blocking controlling rom...
Examples: Viber rings , I look at my phone I hear it rings I am looking at it but theres nothing on display.
Whatever settings I adjust it just keep getting back some of his settings.
I use gboard so whenever I switch phone on , or restart device I need to select gboard again. It just bring back his Chinese Sogou keyboard...
Also some weird bug with messenger when chat head is on home screen, when I open conversation it devides display in 2 and bottom part is see trough with home screen...
Also with all the settings like autostart on , battery saver - no restrictions, and lock app in recents I dont get messeges through sometimes. And thats for messenger, WhatsApp, Viber and so on..
Youtube vanced ... It took me 3 days to find proper version that will work without bugs. Its 15.43.32 version and not the black, black one have bugs , and if I update that version start having some weird bugs and all the other yt vanced are just worse..
There's more
My ringtone is some melody that I downloaded and chosed in sound settings, but it rings with MI melody ...
I have 2 networks in my home and it keeps conecting to other network even with forget network chosed and auto connect off...
This morning is the first morning that device stayed on after night. I sleep with airplane mode and every morning till this one the device was swiched off when I wake up and I left it on airplane mode.
Some weird bugs also with display switching off during use of some apps when tilt device or move it somehow...
Theres more but can't remember now so please write your experience.
I am on newest update 12.0.22.
It's really bad.
7h SOT with 60Hz FHD+, Lag after taking a picture in whatsapp, whatsapp notifications appearing multiple times, whatsapp showing numbers / forgetting contact assigns, Permissions get reset, Google Pay is not starting if I try to pay, several notification issues on other apps, not everything is translated to enlgish.
I wanted to go back to my Mate 20 Pro so bad but already sold it on ebay =(
Super bad !!
Also when I listen music over Bluetooth in the car with SoundCloud app it just stop the playback after few minutes , .. killer annoying software !
Its gonna be hard to wait for the global rom
Also, always on display switches off about 10 minutes after it stays in idle even when set to say always on !
Auto britnes not working so good. I have to adjust it all the time ..

Open Setting - apps - menage apps - whatsapp - permission - Read your contact - always allow ..done
Yesterday uper speaker started switching off. After first restart it worked. Than again stoped. Than after second restart id didn't worked and I made a call and that triggered it to wotk. So it must be a software bug....
Yes the CN rom is bad. EU rom is so much better. With EU I haven't had to tweak every app permission as notifications are working properly. Also get the Google feed on the left and everything works - no bugs after 2 weeks of using it.
I was so happy with the EU rom that I donated to the project.
Because there is a wall in China, the Chinese version of the rom is only optimized for Chinese users, not necessarily suitable for foreign

Question Device Freezing on MIUI 13.0 4 GLOBAL.

My device keeps freezing 3 to 4 times a week after MIUI 13.0.4 global update and I would have to restart the phone to resolve the issue. I never had that issue on MIUI 12.5.9. Is anyone else having the same ???
I had some performance issues and freezes after updating to 13.0.3. Then I performed a factory reset and the phone improved a lot. I still think that 12.5 performed better, but at least it's stable again.
Mine feezes too sometimes, mostly when trying to skip forward youtube videos more aggressively. It either unfreezes after 10-15 seconds or reboots by itself. But only happened 3 or 4 times so far.
13.0.3 Global, waiting for next update
Since the V13.0.3.0.SKFEUXM update I have massive battery drain, Google discovery doesn't work correctly and the notifications aren't erased when I wipe them. Any help please? Thanks
Issues with MIUI13 seems to be a lot. I am rooted and use the EliteROM MIUI13, except for battery all seems to be working fine.

Hello. I have Xiaomi mi lite 11 global. After the 13 update the battery got really really really bad after it was perfect. Did the factory reset really work?

For battery issues, I recommend checking "battery", under settings, to see which apps are consuming the most.
In my case, Google Location history and Google Play Services were the top battery consumers. I checked their permissions and found that they were set to "always allow access to location", which resulted in some mad GPS and battery use. After setting them to "only while using the app", battery became just as good as it was with 12.5.
Your experience might be different, especially since you have a completely different model.
Same issue and didn't happen before at all!
Redmi note 10, android 12, Miui version 13.0.3 (stable) updated 23 Mar2022,/Ireland
Since this update my phone has started to hang and freeze and sometimes when I wake up the phone has switched off
Frustrated
I sent feedback (Applications, Feedback) 4 times to Xiaomi and got this reply from them 3 times: ' Dear Customer: Mobile phone System lag/hang when daily use, it is recommended to clean the phone memory, close the background application, leave more running space or restart the phone, and charge it in time. Thanks for your feedback. Mi Phone Feedback Team'
It's so annoying as I've plenty of space on the phone and go change it in time. I use this phone as much as I always do - I'm not the problem here; the update is!
Anyone got solutions? I don't really want to do a factory reset...

For me the culprit was the MIUI "Security" app. I started the phone in emergency mode then went to settings, apps and deleted cache and data for the Security app. Rebooted the phone and never touch the Security app again - so far it's OK, but this is a very unsatisfactory situation.

What do you mean by
started the phone in emergency mode...
Is it the standard recovery mode?

The version of Security app is 6.2.3-220622.1.2
Another issue - maybe unrelated? - is that sometimes it takes a couple of seconds or more to turn the screen on, after pressing the power button

Sorry for late reply.
For me, I knew it was the security app because the phone showed a notification saying the security app had stopped, or something like that before it froze, but it definitely said the security app had malfunctioned and that's why I cleared its data.
Hope that helps.
