Better than S10+, but lacking the S10+ beefy variants? - Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Questions & Answers

As soon as all the phones were introduced, i put the 5G atop even the Fold. But having this phone when the S10+ gets a 12GB variant and Ceramics killed it for me.
Will those two options ever be available for the 5G?

That might be right but don't forget this device gets the UFS 3.0
and that makes a huge difference in speed and performance!

I read ufs 3.0 so I called Samsung to confirm, spent an hour on the phone with three different departments and never received a definitive answer.

Definitely not UFS 3.0. the only advantages are the bigger screen (not for me), bigger battery (but still as yet unproven battery life), and the ToF sensor which is useful for girls that like to post artsy videos on their Instagram page. That last one I don't think is an advantage as I've seen the mate 20 Pro do some awesome portrait video like gimmicks as well without that sensor. Samsung just hamstringing the other S10 models I think.
I just repurchased the S10+ 1tb version (long story) and think I've decided to wait for the Note 10.

No x55 in the Note 10 unfortunately. If you want Samsung gonna have to wait for the S11 pro ultra super 5g edition unfortunately. Should have it by then.

You don't think the Note 10 will get the new x55? Has to be close to coming in the note 10. Wonder if it will get UFS 3.0??

I've read lots of articles saying beginning of 2020 for the new modem. One article said end of 2019, but August isn't the end of 2019. UFS 3.0 has to be guaranteed in the Note 10, otherwise Samsung is dropping the ball.

Agree with that. UFS 3.0 better be in there or I may have to hold out for S11? I wish I knew if Note 10 had UFS 3.0 and what modems. If it doesn't have UFS 3.0 and still using old modem I should buy an S10 5G now then for the bigger display, bigger battery and more cameras but wish I knew what Note 10 would entail

OxygenOS 9.5.7 update available for 5G model

There's a new update our for the 5G variant, 9.5.7
It adds very little and quite frankly is a bit of a disgrace - this "update" is still the June path level and to make matters worse the feature disparity between the 4G & 5G is widening!

Which do you think is the majority device? Yeah so that's the one they'll dev for first. That's the risk of getting into technology at launch, exactly why I didn't bother with the 5g version, wait until it's properly bedded in and the norm.

Apparently there's an ongoing issue with the patch they were going to release, hence the delay. If it was me, I'd be happier with a working phone than an updated, mebbe insecure, mebbe glitchy phone. They have said the patch will be coming soon, presumably to bring it to parity with the 4G models.

I told them the phone wasn't fit for purpose as advertised features still didn't work properly, and the continued lack of updates made me question whether they ever would.
OnePlus' silence when it comes to answering queries or support tickets about the 5G is inexcusable - they clearly aren't interested in this phone variant, and I doubt it will ever gain parity with the (lesser) 4G variant.
I'm either going to get a Note 10 or Mate 30 when they're available - I know the Note 10 can do 5G and I almost guarantee that the Mate 30 will too!
How can you go to 60Hz after using 90Hz? I went to a local phone shop to see the Note 10(+), but just because of its 60Hz screen I wouldn't buy it. Period. It just feels sluggish and laggy. All the animations feel as if they are capped because of the 60Hz display.

I'm looking forward to a phone where the main features actually work! If I have to sacrifice a bit of screen refresh in order to have a functioning phone, then so be it!

Advice for phone

Hello, I want advice for a phone between iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung s 21+, I want to use it for a long time, fast and non-catching. What do you think of Samsung's Exinus processor? Some people say it's good, others say it's not. Is snapdragon better? Also what do you think about OnePlus 9 Pro, Oppo find x 3 pro, Sony xperia and Pixel 6 pro.? I will be grateful for your detailed advice. Which phone is the best in the long run.
Welcome to XDA
Long run, how long? There have been display issues with the S21Us. Unlike iPhones and other Androids stock Samsung's UI is tricked out.
Personally I won't buy any Android with no SD card slot which I use as a data drive. Samsung's support up to 1tb. My minimum ram is 8gb but having 12gb doesn't hurt.
I want a native spen, its remote bt shutter release and especially Smart Capture are very useful.
I want either Android 9 or 10 which the Samsung UI is nearly identical for both and functional.
I didn't want the issues with variable rate displays (reduced color rendering/power consumption) or 5G. I hate rounded display corners.
So I went with a second new Note 10+ Snapdragon running on Android 10.
Still one of the best Amoled displays out there. My heavily used 2+ year old N10+ continues to run nearly flawlessly with one battery replacement so far.
It looks and runs like it was new. No detectable display degradation with ScreenTest. It's a gorgeous solid workhorse that just keeps running. Buttons, spen and C port jack are still tight. Current OS load is over 1.5 years old, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
Projected service life is 2-3+ years.
Zero regrets... so far.
The biggest problem with Androids is choice. There's an Android to fit any appetite...
My display is minimalistic by design. Dark themed with One Handed Operation plus running on the sides. Digi Clock also hides a set of quad short cut buttons. There's a lot there, out of sight...

Sorry to hear about your lose.
If you don't want the spen there's the S10, 20 series. These are smaller more no nonsense phones that are still very capable.
My knowledge of them however is very limited.
Whatever you decide use a reliable vendor as there's a lot of misleading ads. Best to talk with the company by phone first and feel them out.

Question Zenfone 9 expected spec/release date?

I'm about to throw down on an S22 because it's honestly the only human-hands sized phone in the current generation. The only thing holding me back is the possible curveball the ZF9 might be. Secondary display? Large battery? All the goodies with none of the bootloader locking nonsense I have to get around with international versions of the S22?
... maybe if the specs were announced tomorrow May 6th, like i saw posted somewhere? thoughts?
Looks like i answered my own question, they have an event May 9th that lines up perfectly with other Zenfone release dates

I love that samsung went smaller, but the 3700mah battery is a potential dealbreaker. no reason for the phone to be 7mm thick when the cameras protrude so much. make the back flush and go 4500mah+ instead
All the extras are intriguing, interactive back or whatever. It's just the battery for me.
soooooo it looks like there's a second event May 17 and im seeing all Laptop results as teasers for today
aand that event today turned out to be just two new asus rog laptops, our wait for any zenfone 9 news continues...

no fingerprint sensor back there but you will apparently still need a case cutout on the back anyways to use the "responsive back". maybe there will be a fingerprint sensor in the best location for one imo, that design in the leak or the feature in general could have been scrapped by now, who knows other than Asus themselves?
other things i'd like to see other than the fingerprint sensor in its proper place would be to:
keep the increasingly rare sub-6-inch form factor,
add one more camera for zoom to complete the almost standard now trifecta,
add wireless and reverse wireless charging just for the option and to set itself apart as one of the less than ten phones released this year so far with both,
and move the volume buttons to the left side of the phone,
that last one is minor but that just proves how well they did with the zen 8 imo.

They kept the form factor, increased the battery size a bit and they did improve the location of the fingerprint sensor so right now this is one of my top picks for a new phone. who knows maybe they're waiting on revealing wireless charging yet? Looks like they didn't reveal the responsive back yet so either that feature was axed (like it should be lol) or they haven't revealed all the features yet. Maybe I'm too optimistic... Its between this and the xperia IV for me and right now the xperia is better with its telephoto camera (something this phone will definitely not have, confirmed by its design) and wireless charging (something thats unlikely but still a possibility for the zenfone, fingers crossed), the zenfone has got the form factor and the assumedly better price though.
ZF9 is also gonna be like half the price of the 1 IV, with a TSMC chip instead of the blazing mess that the Samsung chip is.
For me, the ZF9 looks to be the perfect device this generation. I never use wireless charging (super inefficient, plus, you already have a wire going to the charger...) I would love to see microSD slot and a telephoto, but it checks enough boxes for me to hopefully finally retire the 8T.

Question Buy or Not

Was a huge oneplus fan from 1 all the way up oneplus 8. Then went to s21 ultra for a year. Started to get bored now and looking at the 10 pro. What you guys think yes or no. Have I missed anything the os?
Yeah you missed that you after root don't have zram because they changed it to the new style with ram expension and you can't get it back unless you have a module for zram i think but i didn't try it out yet i wanted to do that someday when I get bored and when i want a higher antutu score but the kernel is something what i haven't seen before in stock android you don't get throttled but you get underclocked to keep performance and to cool down but anything what you change in the kernel ain't nice to have I'm still trying to figure it out but for now if you leave if stock it's a pretty good device but that's my opinion
Erm OK
skip oneplus altogether. it's not the same brand
went from the s21 ultra to op10 pro. skip the op bro. too many bugs for a finished product
don´t change

I'm happy with the device.. Have the Extreme Panda White Edition, with EU ROM, A13. For me, everything is working like expected. Of course, there are some little bugs and glitches, which should be fixed with updates.. But to be honest and fair, which product didn't had issues at their initial launch? See Google Pixel 6 / Pro line..
I like the photos, and I'm sure, they are going to be better after few updates too, see Pro 9.. Also, with 5h SoT, 120Hz, QHD resolution and High Performance Mode, I'm OK with.
I know that out there are users with some performance, heating and battery issue, but luckly, I'm not one of them. So from my POV, I would buy it again..

There are so many ohter things which I would preffer on 10 Pro instead of S22 Ultra:
- Ultra fast wire charging
- Super fast wireless charging
- An close Android stock UI
- Less Bloatware
- Dev. like root or custom ROMs
I agree, currently S22 have better pics then 10 Pro, but I'm absolutely sure that 10 Pro will make noticable steps forward with updates, the same was with 9 Pro.
pro4everif you want/ can wait few months for 10 Ultra.
I just ordered my 10 Pro with 600 Euro from a sales forum in my country. Full box. Black color, just like my 9 Pro. European version. The seller don't like Oneplus phones/software... good for me!
I've been more than happy with the OnePlus Pro's! Cheers
Skip it, Oneplus isn't the same as it used to be. currently OOS12 is bugged (at least mine was) i sold it after a month and went back to samsung even tho i swore i'll never go back to them

The phone specs may be good, but the service has been progressively worsening since the 7T. 8T is arguably ok since it was still possible to use the unbrick tools. The service for and roms for anything after has been ****. The founder left oneplus and now it's just a corporate shill pretending to be a flagship killer phone manufacturer.
As an Android phone I like it..
The hardware is superb, battery life is insane..
The only thing missing at the moment is some custom ROMs and the MSM tool which apparently you can sidestep with fastboot enhance although I do not see a guide for it, there is a downgrade firmware so that could work too..
Overall I'd pick either the 10 pro or maybe the next pixel pro.

Worth it to buy a new Note 9 in 2022?

Hi all,
I can get my hands on a new Samsung Note 9. Is it still worth it to buy a new Note 9 in 2022?
Samsung has stopped releasing updates for this device and Android is stuck on version 10.
Could get the Note 10 plus, but will cost me twice the price and I really miss the 3.5mm jackplug on the Note 10.
Thanks!
Get the N10+ N975U or N975U1 and a pair of Buds+. Preferred Android 9 or 10. Security is not an issue.
The N10+ is an exponentially faster and a more powerful Note than the N9. Night and day difference. The N10+ has the best display in the business; excellent color calibration/accuracy/white point/gamma calibration. Extremely reliable and long lived with excellent build quality. I have two, the oldest has over 8k hours on it, still running on Pie, current load is over 2yo. It runs like a bat out of hell, looks, feels and runs like it was new. The display is still flawless. It's the only Samsung flagship I recommend. It's just fun to use and snappy fast.
New ones can still be had for around $650-700 loaded with Q. Buy only from reliable, trusted vendors!!!
Note 10+ is still one of my favorite devices. I also have a Note 9 and as Blackhawk stated night and day. The 9 is still a good device, but 10+ more bang for your buck.
@Niek_66
Still using my N9 as daily driver, and have it updated to June 2022.
Phone and apps (no e-mail or browser installed) do not connect via wi-fi, and have it locked down w/ NetGuard and phone settings.
Charge lasts about 2 to 3 days.
Samsung makes an adapter for the 3.5mm jack to USB-Type C that can be used on the N10+.
Unless you want to have access to scan/listen to local radio stations w/ an app such as NextRadio, and depending on your "security threat," you may want to purchase the N10+.
The N10+ can be updated to Android 12 and is still receiving security updates.
Hi,
Thanks for all the replies!
I can buy a new Note 10 plus but currently way to expensive. Also looking at the S22 Ultra and this one also has a high price tag.
I can't compare the Note 9 to the 10 but I still find my Note 9 fast enough. Don't play many games on it and mainly use it for internet and watch YouTube videos. The stylus I use a lot!
Think I will wait a while and keep using my Note 9.

Play with an N10+ side by side with the N9. The N9 is a nice Note. I considered getting one at one point. The N10+ is a noticeable upgrade in overall speed and performance. After the N10+ Samsung has issues with all their flagships. They abandoned expandable storage after the humped back N20U. The problems don't end there; all variable refresh rate displays have color/gamma accuracy/calibration issues and high failure rates. Build quality and QC appears to be an issue now with Samsung.
Be default I would do exactly what you chose to do, nothing. The N9 is a good device with a excellent AMOLED display. The only reason I got my first N10+ was my S4+ display was nearly dead. No choice. I lucked out. Don't place yourself in that situation; make a well informed decision ahead of failure of your current device.
Samsung has been dropping the ball since the N10+. Their next generation will likely suck too but Samsung may clean up their act although this seems unlikely at this point. Multiple poor decisions for 3 years straight by Samsung.
They continue to throw money at the Fold series while neglecting their Note series (yeah, they even forgot their name).
Samsung is a mess now...

Have had the Exynos 512GB Note9 since March 2020, 0 complains. Also if you care for latest updates there is NobleROM which is currently on OneUI 4.1 and Android 12, might get OneUI 5 and Android 13 soon too. The phone is fast, has all the nice useful features like headphone jack, micro sd card, Bixby button (I use it as a mute switch, don't hate xd), iris scanner, physical fingerprint scanner, no interruptions on the display. Never changed my battery and still lasts forever (I do charge it between 30% and 80% most of the time) without any effort on my side to save it, I use the phone whenever and for whatever I need to. I say grab the Note9, it's a great phone and will be great for years to come.

Hi all,
I can get my hands on a new Samsung Note 9. Is it still worth it to buy a new Note 9 in 2022?
Samsung has stopped releasing updates for this device and Android is stuck on version 10.
Could get the Note 10 plus, but will cost me twice the price and I really miss the 3.5mm jackplug on the Note 10.
Thanks!

I've used 2 note 10 plus and I'm currently using 512gb 8gb ram note 9. I can tell you there is definitely a difference in performance in major graphics games but in normal use case there's no difference. I prefer note 9 because people had issues hearing me with my note 10 plus when making calls with my left ear. Note 10 plus is really good, but I prefer this version of note 9. Somehow note 9 battery lasts longer too. I put it on high performance all day no heat no problem. Snapdragon version btw. Camera quality is also close. I really can't complain
