Android Pie 9 compare to Android 8 on Galaxy M10 Comparision battery life - Samsung Galaxy M10 Questions & Answers

How is battery life ? on screen time ? on Android 8 vs 9

what the he***, many seen this post but no one comment ? really ?

It's optimized.
I have been using this phone for almost a year. It gives me an easy 12 hours of life.
I usually -- scroll Instagram, watch youtube, listen to Music & bit gaming. Mostly I'm always on headphones.
After the upgraded to android 9, I didn't see any huge difference or drain in the battery. The Samsung Updates have become a lot better and the phone is really worth every penny you spent.

Note 8 vs Mate 10 Pro

Hi everyone.
First of all, I`ve searched the forums for this type of threads, and couldn`t find any.
Secondly, I`m thinking on changing my Mate 10 Pro with a Note 8 device. What I want to know if there`s someone who made this switch so far and if not, I need someone to tell me about Note 8 software performance and battery with more than moderate usage : social apps (fb ,instagram) , chat apps ( WA, FB messenger, texts ), about 1H calls daily, news apps, youtube 1H daily, WITHOUT games.
The Mate 10 Pro`s battery is excellent, I get at least 24 hours daily, and this is what I like the most. But here comes the software. I keep app animations at X1.5 and still encounter stutters and freezes and a bit of lag. And this is what I hate the most on it.
Can someone please tell me how`s their Note8 running so far after 2-3-4 months?
Thank you very much for your answer.
zero lag for me, animation set at 0.5, easily get a full day and always running high performance mode, I'm pushing 8 hour + screen time some days plus few hours of music.

Have not made a switch from Mate 10. I don't know to much about that phone.
Phone is excellent packed with features*
Updates slow, samsung known for that*
Bsttery pretty good, not the best*
SOT average 5-7 hours depending on usage*
Will last most of the day with average use*
Spec wise blows most phones away*
Best phone I've ever had*
Hey maybe i can help you with my experience
3 of my Friends have the Mate 10 Pro and i own a Note 8. So you can think that we lay down the Devices side by side and test very much. Some Things i can say so far..
Display: Note 8 has definitive the better Display. Colors, Contrast and the overall visual Qualitiy is amazing. The Mate 10 have, compared to the Note 8, a bit milky Display with low Contrast (For my personal opinion)
Battery: Yes, The Mate 10 can run a bit longer then the Note 8. But for me, this is not the Big Point, cause i load every 2. Day my Device.
Performance: Compared to the Mate 10, i think the Note 8 runs better and smoother. Scrolling performance with the Mate is not so good, often little Lags and things like that.
Camera: For my personal opinion, both Cameras have there best and worst cases. No Camera is better then the other, but both of the cameras have there own special things where they can Rock the Rest away.
Updates: No Commentary.. very Bad. You should know that with Samsung. But Things getting Better in Time.. but very slow.
Sound: Mate 10 Pro's Stereo Spekaer are compared to the Note 8 a HUGE difference. The Mate Speakers are fedinitly better then the Note Speaker. But with Headset on.. i think the Note do Things better but i'm rooted anyway..so i use Viper4Arise Maybe you sould ask someone else for Sound things..
So for me, the Note 8 is the very better Device overall.
Hope this few things may help you. When you have questions or you want more comparision, write me..

Hey I own a note 8 from his launch and a few days ago I bought mate 10 pro bla l29 so...
1) Note 8 superior in most case screen, camera Samsung experience, no updates if you like update you have to WAIT
2) Huawei mate 10 pro battery life awesome
Great build quality 2 updates in the past week
Both work great. No lags
My opinion as I own both devices
Go for note but if you like and you're use to it emui stay with Mate 10 pro

I`m living in Romania, I have the Pro since the end of november or something. Huawei release phones earlier in EU
As I always have said, the number one factor for any person considering to buy a note 8 should be the s pen, if this is of no relevance for you, go for some other REAL flagship from a REAL good brand

Thanks for your comparison. I don`t care about the camera, since both of them are pretty good ( I can say that I`ve tested the Note 8 in a shop for 30 minutes and the Pro made better pictures). I`m interested in the battery ( 3300 mAH with QHD+ screen vs 4000 mAH with FHD+ screen ). Also, from my experience with phones, my eyes don`t really notice the differences between screens. i can get used to any screen in a short time. Also, I also wanna know if the software experience from the Note 8 tends go be the same as S8+ ( which is really bad )

'' I`m interested in the battery ( 3300 mAH with QHD+ screen vs 4000 mAH with FHD+ screen )''
I use every Day QHD+ with an very colorful Wallpaper with much and intense Colors..so no black or dark Background all the way. I can make you Screenshots with my Batterylife but i think this is a thing where every person get another experience, cause of his personal usage. My usage case is mostly like yours, except the phone call duration. I can say you (with my Rom (Ironman Rom nearly stock) and Kernel(Xceed)) i have 7.5 - 8 hrs SOT all the Days. The Mate is in comparison with the Note in this case better. I talk about 2-3hrs more SOT. So its your opinion where your priority is. Anyway i compared the Mate and the Note so far but never used a Mate longer then lets say about 4 hrs. So maybe my results are a bit diffrent to the real case. Anyway the Softwarelags from the Mate are not lucky and i hope for my Friends with these Devices Huawei will fix this in the next Updates. For me is that a realy bad thing when i buy a new phone and get srcolling Lag and other things. But maybe they installed some crap and the lag comes from 3rd party Apps or bad configurated system. I dondt know, what i see was okay so far from the Apps.
'' Also, from my experience with phones, my eyes don`t really notice the differences between screens. i can get used to any screen in a short time.''
Okay thats a thing like the Batterylife things (for me). Its a personal thing and maybe your eyes can handle that. For me, Samsung is the best Display producer so far beside Appe Displays. I have never see any other Screen that can handle with that quality from Samsung. But one more time.. its more a personal impression that everybody make in a different way i guess.
''I also wanna know if the software experience from the Note 8 tends go be the same as S8+ ( which is really bad )''
I think so. I do not have a S8 or S8+. 2 Friends do have these Devices but i never looked closer on this, cause the Software is mostly the same for my experience. The Note have the Spen feautures but i cant see if there are big other things where are Note Special feautures. If i'm wrong, then please somebody correct me. And yes, the cam but this is not the reason for you i guess.

Apples displays made by Samsung. Goind points made though.
This part not geared toward you, just facts.
Apple and Samsung= Best all around features
LG= Best Audio
Mate/Others= Best Battery
Pixel/Sony= Best Camera/-Updates Sony
OnePlus= Best Root/Roms
You take all this and decide which is most important to you. They all make pretty good phones. Some just have better things then others. IMO Note 8 best overall. But my opinion may be biased. There's a reason you search top ten phones and Note 8/Apple always #1 or #2. I wish we could have a phone that had all these best highlighted feautures into one.
If I didn't get my note for free(ish) I would be using Huawei mate. Battery life is subjective but same type of use on my mate 9 would easily get me 1 1/2 days.
Before note 8 my last daily Samsung was note 4. Same issue I had then is the same now. Phone does have a slight lag to it. If coming from Huawei and maybe pixel you will notice it. Gets worse over time.
I forgot what lag was using nexus and mate 8/9 for the last few years.
Great phone but once you get pass the non essentials I personally would go for Huawei. Emui is the biggest con of Huawei products.
Huawei sucks with updates also.
How comes Samsung devices lag over time? Is something wearing out inside of them ? Jk

they don't, it's owners that start lagging in looking after their devices
I have had samsung devices since S3, NEVER seen that lag over time, really, I do not know where or whom the people claiming these lags get the devices from, I am talking just about my experiences with 6 different REAL samsung flagship devices Obtained through official distribuitors
Lag might be a harsh word to use but there are slight system hangups that happen. Don't take my casual experience, I'm nobody. Plenty of techie youtubers and including xda, post fixes for that imaginary lag in every forum. It's okay every phone has it's issues.
I've also purchased and owned every Galaxy since the first. Every high end ssung tablet under 12 inches. WTF does thst matter, they all experience it. This is my personal experience. Can't speak for other folks. I do install some form of Nexus/Google/pixel or Nova launcher so maybe my experience is different. I don't lower screen or limit things so take that for what it's worth also. I would hope 5he first thing anyone who knows what xda is, turns the animations up.
There is a clear difference between Nexus/pixel vs Samsung(or any other oem) flagships. There is a difference between Huawei mate(strict resource management) and vs the note.
With that being said, Samsung makes the best phones. Note 8 does everything with the best screen plus amazing specs. It's just not as fluid. Been using since release. It's not a laggy mess like a cheap prepaid phone . Far from that.
My biggest thing while using Huawei was not needing a custom rom. Once I got past emui sucks and having to pay to get steady updates early, I never looked back.
Note. If all the Knox and losing important resale features I would be flashing like the good ol days. Every day. Custom roms would benefit this phone.
Fingerprint sensor alone is worth keeping the mate.
My last point and them I'm out of the convo. You asked this question in the note 8 section. Likely hood of getting unbiased opinion are very slim. You will have some folks who keep it real. You'll have some that get 10+ of sot, no lag, perfect fingerprint placement, etc.
All in all
Take it all with a dump truck full of salt. If you want to trade let me know. Cash from my end.
And what would be a black market unofficial distribution source.

How is Pie battery life on the Note 8?

Are people noticing any improvement or worsening?
It's been a lot better for me
Battery life for me is ok, with the official installed for the last 4 days. I'm upto 6 hrs sot on my usage and intend to leave it on charge overnight to complete any optimisations that may have not been done.
The call screen number flashing bug is still there though, but no other issues for me as yet.
i dont know guys... its lottery? i went down from 7h SOT to 2h... i did full wipe ect... i heard a lot of people that said it its better for them with battery and a lot of people saying its even worse than oreo

I'm having about the same batt life as I had with Oreo, but I've upgraded to Pie 2 days ago, so I'm hoping it will get better in about a week when the OS settles down and I'm done with setting it up. I've always had the idea that after a major OS upgrade, it keeps doing a lot of things in the background, making it use more battery than expected. For iOS this is even verified by Apple, but I don't know about Android.
Im used pie for about 2 weeks now.
For me, battery usage for idle is better, im got better standby time than oreo, but once im start using it, it drop faster than oreo. Phone also feel little more hot than on oreo.
Im got battery leakage last 2 days and then i realised that putting video wallpaper on lockscreen eat the battery alive even screen is turn off.. Its just still played in background.
Im got constant 6 and half hour of SOT on pie and 7 hour SOT on oreo (from 100 to 20%) of my battery. I
Im not heavy user, just used chrome and facebook only. No games.
So far, phone is more responsive on pie but never been lack on oreo.
However, im monitor my battery charge capacity with Aida64, im got 3139 mAh on pie and 3220-3298 on oreo. Its seems its limit to 3139 only now for my phone.
By the way, im used Note8 with exynos processor.
Pretty much the same as on Oreo on my N950N running Pie.
Note 8 battery much better with pie...... Verizon
I was expecting the same like for years new update new battery drain. This is the best a battery has ever done. I use my phone alot I have stopped background data for the battery hungry apps. With device care. I set it to see a week at a time. I only done this with Facebook and messenger and chrome. Even before it's been great for me I hope that all of you get better battery life. I know it's hard to do things when you have tug battery charger.
Pie is a joke don't update you will thank me
oreo it's a lot better, but i use custom kernel on pie, "phantom kernel" and my battery life it's a lot better even better than oreo with stock kernel.
Not bad.
Some people here hating on pie, more power to you, but I've only had one minor bug with the sound "popping" in the "My Noise" app, turning off Wifi during use fixes it. Also, all the benefits such as Good Lock, Bixby Routines and dark mode more than make up for the one minor bug I have. FWIW I am on Sprint and Snapdragon model.
Curious. Considering updating soon. Need help manuals. OTA keeps saying "processing failed"

what is the best ROM official and updated without compromise for Exynos?

That's correct. We are always expecting more and more... One UI is the only ROM that fits your requirements, the Note doesn't have any official ROMs afaik. If you really want the best possible battery life, take a look at either Oreo Lineage or AEX.

Well we expect more and more partly because how they advert the new devices, this combined with the price.. pretty normal to expect what is promised.. But for couple of things this phone disappointed me more then when I bought my previous phone, the Lenovo P2 a 300$ phone.
The Note 9 is a 900$ phone, with average batterylife, a good rear camera, horrible front camera, good SPen features, awfull awfull super slow motion video, highest display resolution drains battery, enhanced video playback drains battery, shooting video in higher res loses autofocus and object tracking.. :silly:
So sad there are no official ROMs, what is the reason? I'll check the ROMs you suggested. Thanks

If you think about physics of things, you'll start to understand that what is advertised often isn't possible. The battery is a 15.4 Wh cell, when you consider that the 9810 SOC on it's own can draw 3 - 4W, the display can draw 2W+, just these two together could flatten the battery in under 3 hours (15.4Wh / 6W = 2.56 hours). Sure the SOC is rarely at full load and the display is rarely going to be at full brightness on a white screen but the Note has a bunch of other hardware also consuming power.
I'm sorry if you paid $900 for a Note 9, I paid less than that a couple of days after launch, it's certainly not worth that kind of money now. Saying that though, IMO the Note 9 is still the best all round package. Other than perhaps the display, it isn't really the best at anything but manages to tick more boxes than anything else for me.
The reason there are no official ROMs is because no one wants to make them and AOSP Pie is proving to be rather challenging.

I find the battery life is exceedingly better than my previous Samsung S7, and I maintained a setup on the 7 with no GPS, bluetooth, or wifi/data on except when needed (using tasker style logics to keep battery utilization down). Now on the Note9 with OneUI updated from a fresh factory image, I leave on my GPS and Bluetooth all the time and only toggle wifi when in an area where I want to be on wifi (using Automate by Llamalabs). I find that by the end of my day I have between 50-60% more battery life left with the Note9, compared to about 30% with the S7.
My suspicion is that a lot of people are not getting the best results because of all the apps and radios they have turned on (maybe even themes and brightness), and possibly taking an update to Android 9 without then performing a factory reset. I did not install anything before upgrading to Android 9, and so I have had ZERO issues.
I've also used a lot of custom ROMs on my previous Samsungs, and none as good (polished and bug-free) as this OneUI.
I just suspect people are not doing it right. That's usually the case with a lot of things.

Well that also crossed my mind, but I'm very aware on how I use apps and radios.
Not a power user
Power mode Optimized
Screen resolution FHD+
Auto brightness ON
No gaming
Now and then Facebook lite, Netflix, YouTube, WhatsApp, Chrome
Very little Mobile Data (max half hour a day), default OFF
About 12 hours WiFi, default OFF
Bluetooth is standard off (max half hour a day)
NFC OFF
No high accuracy scanning BT or WiFi
AOD only on tap
Location ON

Best Android version or custom ROM for battery life

For context am running Android 10 on my 960fd exynos note 9 and am barely getting 4 hours Screen on time even after replacing the battery recently
I don't get more than 4 hour even though I don't game or use battery intensive apps. Also with noticalble slow down and lag.
So based on your experience which ROM or vanilla os version should I roll back to and how much screen time do you get ?
LightROM, see link in my sig. Yes it's too old, so it's not patched against security-risks. You need to be somewhat experienced in knowing what apps not to use insecurely and stuff like that. I get about 12 hours screen-time on its original battery (a 960FD).

Question How much better the Pixel 7's battery life than the S22's?

Hi guys!
The problem
I currently have a base model Galaxy S22 Exynos and everything has been fine except battery life. I'm thinking of getting a Pixel 7 and I need your help to decide if it would be worth it. I have already disabled 5g and aod disabled, did most of the optimizations in the S22 thread but still, it can not last through a full day with what I would consider light use but you tell me.
My usage
I love listening to music on spotify, bt headphones, I use a lot of discord, messenger, and instagram chat, watch a lot of tiktok and youtube videos, and browse chrome. I commute and use 4g a lot. With my current usage the S22 battery discharges really fast.
S22, the good and the bad
While I love a lot about my S22, especially the high refresh rate screen sith symmetrical bezels, the battery on this phone is just plain bad and can not get me reliably through the day without battery anxiety. I feel miserable having to micro manage the battery in order to not run out of battery by the end of the day.
I am looking to buy a Pixel 7, because it ticks most of what I want in a phone:
- Good photos
- Snappy performance
- Very clean UI (although might be too clean with little customization options)
- Elegant, unique body
- High refresh rate amoled screen
So how has been your Pixel 7's battery life? While according to dxomark and gsmarena battery drain tests the P7 should have slightly better battery life, I have also read that it doesn't translate to significantly better battery life IRL usage. I don't want to upgrade if the P7 will only give me 30 more minutes of SOT, because there are a lot of things I love about the S22. S23 is too expensive atm.
So should I get rid of my S22 in favor of the Pixel 7? Do you think it would give me better battery life?
Thanks people
Edit: I bought a bluetooth headphone and listen regularly to music on spotify and mobile date when commuting to work or uni, and battery has been significantly worse. Also edited the post to be more readable.

I commute a lot so half of the time im on LTE and usually use the following apps: Infinity for Reddit, Instagram, Messenger, Tiktok, Youtube, Chrome. I'm attaching a screenshot of my most impressive SOT (Although I'm usually getting 4-5) where I went from 100% to 4% and you can see what kind of apps I use on a general basis. I use 2sims and the second sim gets mediocre signal strength.
https://prnt.sc/GL09NBrv4e-r
Standby time is good, with special bixby routines that puts my phone into airplane mode during the night, but when the display is on and I actually use it, it drains so insanely quickly. And I'm not even listening to music!!!! Imagine if I actually used spotify and a bluetooth earphone, I guess I would have to keep my phone plugged into a powerbank all day? I can not even imagine what would happen if in the afternoon I would go out with my friends but would have to go home first to charge my phone or risk it running out of battery.
I am looking to buy a Pixel 7, because it ticks most of what I want in a phone:
- Good photos
- Snappy performance
- Very clean UI (although might be too clean with little customization options)
- Elegant body
- High refresh rate amoled screen
So how has been your Pixel 7's battery life? While I have read that the P7 should have a slightly better battery life, I have also read that software updates regularly mess it up. Also, I don't want to upgrade if the P7 will only give me 30 more minutes of SOT, because there are a lot of things I love about the S22. S23 is too expensive atm.
Do you think I would be able use all my applications including listening to music with bluetooth headphones, browsing and social media? I need a phone that lasts me from morning to evening and does not give me battery anxiety. I want to be able to use my phone more, which the S22 can not do.
Thanks people

Software updates do mess up the Pixel 7 but with the February patch, I have been getting good battery life. I don't know how much SOT I get from my phone since I just charged it at the time I am writing this but every time I have 100% before I go to school, I always end up with about 50-70% by the time I get home and for the late nights around midnight, I end up with 20-40% left of battery life. To me, that's good enough for my usage since I don't game on my Pixel.
This is my battery for Pixel 7:
It took some optimizing to get it good (Stock Google) but i'd say about 2 to 3 days on one charge is no problem with normal use (no gaming).
Have the adaptive battery off, it doesn't let phone go to deep sleep.
The 0.6% per hour while screen is off is amazing for the Tensor G2 chip.

Quite stong battery i'd say:
By the way TikTok sends massive bursts of your data sometimes. I verified with this my router and it drains battery quite alot. Just use browser version.
And i'm using 2022 August version of phone software.

It only seems to drain the battery when I'm actually using the app, so that's not really an issue because I'm in bed most of the times.
What about getting a wireless charging ring? Might solve your current dilemna!

Hi guys!
I got really fed up with how quickly my Galaxy S22 (Exynos, base model) drains even with 5g and aod disabled, did most of the optimizations in the S22 thread but still, it can not last through a full day with what I would consider light use but you tell me.

Pixel phones are basically Android equivalent of iPhones. By that I mean you'll miss a lot of useful features if moving from other brands.
Pixel phones are just about their cameras. Although cameras are a very important consideration, there are several other equally (may be more) important things to consider when evaluating a smartphone.
The so called 'clean' or 'Stock Android' experience doesn't translate to better performance or battery life. On the contrary, they are actually worse compared to competition. The UI is overrated and cannot compensate for the lack of so many useful features present on Samsung and all Chinese brands.
If you are fine with good cameras (i.e. being absolute best isn't a requirement), you can consider Vivo X90 Pro, iQOO 11, OnePlus 11, etc. since S23 is ruled out for its price.

You are right and that is exactly what i was thinking. There exists a couple of magsafe wireless powerbanks that I could use and I already have magsafe rings that I can attach to any case I want.
But
1. I don't think the powerbanks would actually fit, because they would be blocked by the camera bump so they wouldn't sit flush with the back glass.
2. I don't want to play this minigame where i micro manage my phone to see where when and how I can charge it. I am also not into randomly whipping out a powerbank that's twice as thick as my phone because it can't hold a charge for more than a few hours.
Hence, I've decided to switch.

Unfortunately, the first 2 are not available in my country and the Oneplus 11 is above my budget.
I am aware that Google's version of android has it's limitation, however, I love the clean, bloat-free UI and the phone looks so insanely cool! It also has relatively thin bezels, good high refresh rate screen. It ticks most of my criterias for a phone just like my S22, the only thing that keep's me from switching is not knowing how much better the battery life would be.
Although I do have to say that from 100-7% I got 6h 26m of SOT (Lots of tiktok, instagram, chrome, discord, infinity, messenger and tinder) and 21h 7m standby, so perhaps maybe I'm the one being out of touch how long batteries should last?

If you spend a little bit time, any OEM version of Android can be made super clean. And the several built-in useful features that are not available on Pixels will make the overall experience much better.

I'm pretty sure the Pixel 7 won't last this long, i.e. you are sure to see disappointment if you switch to it from your current phone.

The Pixel Launcher looks the best by far in my opinion. I am aware that custom launchers exist buy they can only mimic the real experience to a degree.

I hope I can gaslight myself into thinking that I'm being unreasonable and this is absolutely fine battery life before I get my paycheck next month. According to dxomark, gsmarena and battery drain tests, the Pixel 7 should be much better for browsing and social media.

I'm not talking about launcher features at all. There are several features built-in at the software level on OEM builds such as Samsung's OneUI, OnePlus' Oxygen OS, iQOO's FunTouch OS, etc. that do not have a solution using 3rd party apps. So Pixel users will have to live without these features, and it is a difficult proposition for those who come from other brands.

6 hours of SOT with 20 hours of standby is quite good by today's standards. I don't think Pixel will last this long. With some Chinese brands like iQOO, Vivo, OnePlus, etc., you can expect to get an extra hour or two of battery life.

I totally do not agree at all with this.
I've been using the pixel 5 until recently and had all OnePlus devices up until the 5t. They were great and eben superior to the pixels.
Now I use the pixel 7 pro and it's absolutely amazing in pretty every aspect I can think of.
I only wished it was smaller and made of aluminum, just as the 5 was.
Anyways, before purchasing the p7p,I tried the s22 and hated it pretty much immediately.
That thing is cluttered with tons of software no one needs. Yes, there are dinner features that's might be useful, but not many. And if I want to, I can always find similar apps on there playstore.
What I can't do, is get rid of most of these apps, as they are baked into the system.
Comparing the s22 and the p7p I found the pixel much snappier, which is ridiculous, considering the in theory much more powerful hardware.
Battery life on the s22 was ok, but not brilliant on WLAN. Maybe 6 hours of sot with mostly reading on website and streaming media.Battery life.
Battery life on the p7p in WLAN was about 10-11 hours!
I can't say though how good it is outside of wlan as I only own it for a couple days and still use my old phone until I have all logins etc ready.
Anyways, I'm not missing any relevant features on the p7p, photos are great, it's snappier, than the s22 and updates come all the time.
My recommendation is to get the p7 or 07p instead of the s22.
The only downside really is the size.

The most important benefit of having a feature built into the system is the quality of output. Third party apps do not always provide the same experience. That is also because of restrictions placed on them. System apps have a higher privilege set than user apps. Take for example, Scrolling Screenshots. Or Call Recording.
This is why I prefer OEM builds over Stock Android because 3rd party apps fail to provide quality output, both due to Android restrictions as well as due to lack of proper optimizations.
I have seen several reviews of Pixels and don't remember seeing anything that makes them stand out in terms of performance or battery life. So the whole purpose of having a 'clean' software is defeated.
That said, I have written a post where I have compared the software features of various OEM builds. Since I don't own a device from each brand, I need confirmation from real users of respective devices.
There are about 25 features that I really look forward to on my smartphones, and the lack of availability of some of those are indeed deal breakers for me. For example, lack of gesture support for system navigation when using 3rd party launchers on Xiaomi devices alone is a reason why I wouldn't buy them!
As far as Pixels are concerned, there is only one feature that they have that no other phones have: offline transcription with voice recordings. But Pixels lack many features that other OEM builds offer, enough to rule them out in the purchase decision.
Can you tell me which of the features listed there are available on Pixel phones? This will give clarity on what to expect from Pixel devices.

how u get 6.5h SOT and 20h standby on s22? all wifi? my s22 like ****, and even my pixel 7 cant get beat ur s22. my pixel only like 4.5h SOT and 20h standby I don'thabe WiFi.
so I don't recommend u downgrad ur phone to pixel 7.and I only use LTE, I don't using 5G, if I open 5G, this phone gonna burning. I do have customized ROM and kernel. just like TheMystic saying, i dont think Pixel 7 will last this long

Wait.... this is considered good SOT? Have I been living under a rock? I will **** my pants if watching videos and social media / browsing infinity reddit is considered heavy usage to the point that it is surprising that I got 6.5h SOT.
Most of it was on Wi-Fi, around 30% was on mobile data (4G). I have 5G disabled as my mobile carrier doesn't support it. I have also disabled a bunch of apps through adb, disabled execution of cached apps, most of my apps are in deep sleep and I don't have any applications installed that I don't use. I also use bixby routines to minimize overnight drain. I also have adaptive battery enabled. I also have bixby routines to turn on power saving mode when using power hungry apps. I'm on One UI 5.0 and will not upgrade to 5.1 because of insanely buggy software. That's it
The battery life questions about the Pixel 7 still stands, and I am looking even more into getting rid of my S22 as battery life has been significantly worse after getting a bt headphone and listening to music.

My answer still stands. Don't expect magic from Pixel 7. The battery life you quoted for your S22 is what we see usually in premium phones, although it would vary depending on the quality and number of apps installed.
You can consider Motorola phones. Their cameras are very good and will give you 'Stock Android' like experience (aka lack of many useful features), since iQOO, Vivo, OnePlus and Xiaomi phones are probably not selling where you live.

It's uni season so I'm on the go much more often. I don't get nearly as much SOT as I have previously. My questions wasn't if the S22's battery life is okay but rather if the Pixel 7 could give me more autonomy.

Pixel phones are only about their cameras. There is nothing special about stock Android or their so called 'clean' software (I have already explained why that is so). And you get great cameras (if not absolute best) with other brands too.
Have you considered doing a factory reset of your S22? That might help. Also try and stick with installing only the essential apps that you use regularly.
I might also add something here. I can relate to how you feel. You have kind of tuned your mind to get the Pixel 7 now. If you can resist this urge for a month or two, the desire to buy it will fade away.
The reason I suggest you don't make the switch is primarily because I think it won't serve the purpose you're looking for. Or at the very least, won't justify losing money on the S22 and spending on getting the Pixel 7, unless there is a really good deal on offer.
