VoWifi Works on MiUi 10.3-10.4/Developer - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Here it is

I'm with latest Global MIUI 10.4.1.0 Pie, without root.
All steps are very simple and the responsibility is all yours.
P.s. I cannot post external links, according to forum rules. You can find the tutorial in 4pda forum (Запускаем VoWiFi на Глобальной бете с Андроид 9) under MI 6 part but it works for the last Global Stable for MIX 2 too.
Simple guide (or what I did):
1. Install "Power Shortcuts"
from Play Store (may be some other similar program will also work, I don't now)
2. In "Activity" tab push the gray arrow and find "Modem Config"
3. After find it push the green arrow to create a shortcut
4. In the newly created shortcut "Modem Config" scroll down to Netherla and choose/tap it
That's all I did and now I have fully worked VoWiFi
P.s. Ofcourse you must have this service activated on your subscribtion plan.

I tried this with my MIX 2 and didn't work.
What I think is when you enabling the mobile radio via the toggle actually your call is going via GSM/UMTS/VoLTE (whatever you are using) but not WiFi. The mobile radio is switched on but without indication in the notification bar.
If you do all these things to make WiFi call it means that your operator doesn't support Xiaomi devices offcially for VoWiFi. So may be you have to activate WiFi call service via customer service (or other way). Do you have active WiFi call service under your subscription? If yes, may be you can check with your carrier whether particular call is WiFi call or VoLTE call. If the answer is No, this call is not WiFi call.
As I know when you make a WiFi call the whole communication goes through WiFI directly to the carrier's IMS and you don't need to turn on the mobile radio.
I'm curious if you can try to make a call in place where you have only WiFi coverage but not GSM/UMTS/VoLTE one.
If you succeed then I'm wrong.

I agree, but for activation VoWiFI in One plus you have to make some settings in the chip using some Qualcom software and activate different profile.
Still I'm curious did you manage to test your way for activation of WiFi calling in MI Mix 2 on a place without 2G/3G/4G coverage but with available WiFi network?
I hope I'm wrong and you are right but...

I can tell you that, my phone signal strenght is really low in my home on some places due to thick walls. Usually i get 2g if im lucky 3g, when i do this i hear others loud and clearly.
Someone else told me it didnt work for him so yeah, it may not work on some people.

If you want help you need to explain with a lot more details what you are doing (like does your operator has support VoWiFi, do you have this service activated under your subscribtion plan, your MIUI version...etc.)
If you just make an ascertainment, sorry to hear that you have nonworking service.

Perfect :good: many thanks to Minotavur!
It really works on my MIX2 @ German provider O2/Drillisch

After doing this, you were able to see "3G" or "H" when you activate data? I think even in 3G, sprint htc m8 shows G only... There's an app called "4G switch" on playstore I use to switch modes. It's red icon with switch symbol. And it doesn't require root. Works on stock rom.

Use anyone of your choice man. Wcdma is 3g, GSM is 2g.
Just upgrade to Marshmallow, you'll get HSPDA - no more EDGE... Drawback is you'll lose native Hotspot functionality; I don't know why but the feature disappears once you upgrade...

Nice trick. I wonder why this isn't available in the regular menu anymore. Any other hidden settings like this we should be aware of?
Does VoLTE make any difference in call quality? HD Voice with T-Mobile users seems exactly the same, and calls with other carriers sound terrible with VoLTE to begin with. It does not seem worth leaving VoLTE enabled, since you lose out on conference call management features.
Edit: I just tested a call with someone on a different carrier with VoLTE turned off, and the call quality was significantly better than when VoLTE was enabled. Seems like there is no advantage to VoLTE except maybe signal availability in areas where there is no GSM signal?

HD voice is volte man.... Hence the HD part. It's using your data network to make the call. If you call someone that doesn't have volte capability, it's going to sound a lot worse, but they use to have it baked in to not use volte if the other person didn't have it. I guess now they just re convert the signal instead
HD Voice and VoLTE are not the same thing. VoLTE is merely the carriage of voice over LTE. It's use is mandated by the GSM Association, and it uses the HD Voice codec to turn your words into a digital signal. HD Voice is what has become the trade name of a particular voice codec, AMR Wideband (AMR-WB). HD Voice operates over UMTS and GSM, it is not unique to LTE.
Even with VoLTE turned off, we still get HD voice calls between T-Mobile users and it sounds generations better than other calls.

Turning off volte also turns off HD voice in tmobile phones.
Volte can be disabled from Settings, Connections, Mobile Networks, 4G Call. (if T-Mobile let it there)

Not all, and even then for the ones that behave that way, if you drop down to 3G (HSPA+) you still retain HD-Voice (AMR-WB)

No I know that. But while I was in the settings menu for it, whenever I turned off VOLTE, it auto turned off HD voice and grayed it out
Thanks for this, for whatever reason my VoLTE was disabled by default. Was wondering why my outgoing calls dropped to 4G all the time.

Switch to 3G during calls?

Hi y'all,
I'm on a ROM that has issues with LTE - basically audio fails if I answer a call while I'm on 4G. So I want to set up a Tasker profile that toggles off 4G when a call comes in, and turns it back on when I hang up or the call otherwise ends. My ROM (Liquid Remix for ZTE Axon 7, based on Lineage 16) has a LTE toggle in Quick Settings, but the Secure Settings plugin doesn't want to work.
Any ideas?
PS This issue exists on every Pie ROM I've tried, so I can't just switch to a different ROM.

The secure settings plugin works - just not the LTE action. It says "A CM9/AOKP ROM and an LTE radio are required to use this feature." Something in my ROM must be incompatible... or maybe I've got an out-of-date version of the app?

Yes : download activity launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher
Then stretch for "hidden", and open the app that go to a phone icon named hidden something.
Then, in the hamburger menu choose the band selection mode, pick the bands you want to lock to, then activate it
go back to "Network mode" from the hamburger menu and pick "band selection mode".

Mate, thanks but i am on android 9 with note 9 rooted with the last updates and samsung removed that hidden network app with the last updates. I installed it manually as a system app yet it didn't work .I mean the root permissions in the file system not the typical permissions apps ask for camera, contacts etc when installing or launching. Also I heard something called "hns" removed with the updates and that's why it doesn't work if i even install that app manually.

No problem friend thanks a lot for your try.
Will this work for unrooted stock oreo to lock data from switching towers constantly?
I have a N9600 (TGY) device and I tried to manually select bands using instructions from this video:
youtube.com/watch?v=K-DN0q64lRw
I have the latest version of Android 10 available for this device.
I decided I'd rather NOT fiddle with these settings further and reverted everything... Now after a reboot, my device refuses to connect to the network. For example, I cannot make a phone call... Only after going to "Call Settings & Selecting "Automatic", I'm able to make phone calls again.
Any idea how to set everything back to default settings? I don't like the fact that the phone cannot make calls after a reboot as of now ... I'm using this device on AT&T, so what should the default selection be?
Thanks

This app lets you lock 5G/LTE/4G/3G/2G bands on most Samsung phones running the latest One UI updates: https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/g49ocr/app_samsung_band_selection_app/
After much headache with this issue, I found a method that works where the "Band Selection" menu doesn't work (this method is confirmed working on my Galaxy Note 8). Thanks @fasho:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-lock-lte-band.3681480/#post-74325453
TL;DR: Get org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo (from an apk mirror as it is no longer available on the play store), and then run ServiceMode as root. Follow the linked instructions further to disable unwanted LTE bands.

Wait, now I understand what you wanted to say.
You're saying it should say VoWiFi, while it's saying Volte on my device right?
It's not a issue. It would say VoWiFi, in India where I'm from, but i'm currently in Bangladesh, and here VoWiFi is not supported. Only Volte, which is also in a few operators.
And the reason volte is turned on by using VoWiFi switch is because, probably both are connected to each other
Anyway, I used a guide to get here.
I just posted this guide, coz I can't find that guide anywhere, and many people asked me for a guide, when I said, I was able to activate volte.

!!! I have been looking for a meeting with you for a very long time! Do you have an Indian firmware version? Can you drop the "Call Recording" apk file? You will help a lot of people.
